  1. Yup. Specifically the Ryzen 9 3900X looks like a viable alternative to the i9-9900K with 12 cores rather than 8. But the 9900K has a faster clock speed and performs better on single core tasks from what I understand. I'm also using RME hardware but I've got their HDSPe AIO PCIe card. I have no idea if it works well with AMD but I suspect it should. I haven't seen any complaints in the RME forums at least.
  2. I just added a link to the VI Control thread that explains why NVMe doesn't improve Kontakt loading times much, it's a good read!
  3. Got it! Sorry, new to the forums and don't yet know how to use all the features. 😖
  4. Hi all, I am planning on building a new production and design workstation PC and wanted to get some feedback from some of the more experienced members here on the forum. Here's my current build At this point I am planning on going with Intel (i9-9900KF) but after reading some threads on this forum about AMD's threadripper offerings I am starting to question my own judgement. The PC will be used for audio work, but I also do UI design in Photoshop CC and XD. I also saw in another thread that Jim Roseberry mentioned that the Gigabyte AORUS boards won't let you disable onboard audio and WiFi. I'm worried my motherboard choice might be poor. My biggest concern is storage. I have upwards of 10TB of Kontakt libraries and instruments and I'm not completely sure what the best storage configuration would be. Right now I have two NVMe 2TB drives in the build, but apparantly Kontakt loading doesn't benefit from NVMe so I'm thinking of dropping the second NVMe drive. I'm just a bit overwhelmed. I'd really appreciate any kind of advice on how to modify or optimize my build. Thanks much Edit: Here's a thread from VI Control that explains why Kontakt loading performance doesn't improve much with NVMe
  5. Interesting, good to know! That should save me some money then in my new build. Thanks for your help.
  6. I just came across this thread from google. I am actually planning on building an i9-9900K workstation with a Gigabyte Z390 AORUS ULTRA motherboard and this scared me a little bit. I have an RME HDSPe AIO PCIe interface that I plan on using so disabling onboard audio would be ideal. Is the AORUS lineup bad and should I avoid it? As some background I produce a wide range of genres (everything from EDM to film scoring) and also do a lot of Photoshop work (UI design mostly). I'm also starting to question my CPU choice and wondering if AMD would be better suited for my needs. Jim, you really sound like you know your sh*t, would you mind weighing in? Thanks for any advice.
  7. Awesome. Thank you for the recommendations. I was already looking at the Z390 but haven't heard of the X299 - going to check it out. The one thing that frustrates me is that when you utilize a m.2 slot, 2 regular SATA slots get disabled (at least with the Z390). I need a lot of storage space for Kontakt instruments, and 4TB isn't going to cut it. I should in theory be able to get two normal 4TB SATA drives to work as well though. Also I think if you use the third m.2 slot, it disables PCIe lanes.
  8. Hi Jim, I am building a PC myself, and also going with the i9-9900k. I came across this thread via Google. I was just wondering what motherboard you decided to go with? I can't seem to find a decent LGA 1151 motherboard with a good amount of m.2 slots and multiple PCIe lanes. Those benchmark speeds are amazing. Also, the Samsung SSD, I'm assuming it's NVMe as well? I.E: this? Thank you for any help!
