  1. I go directly to the interface. I have 2 mixers gathering dust with the MOTU. LOL!

I have been completely in the box for going on about 9 or 10 years now. I use an old M-audio Keystation 88 Pro for a controller sometimes but I have been in the box so long that I am as fast using controller lanes with a mouse as riding sliders on the controller.

It is pretty daunting at first, getting used to not having a mixer in front of you but life becomes a lot simpler. Of course, if I had an SSL, a Neve, or Trident sitting there, I would probably feel otherwise. LOL!

Btw, I do music for a living so this equipment is in use most every day. It has to be reliable. I have to say that I have not had many of the problems others have had on this forum and the old forum. My problems mainly was waiting for the technology to be stable enough over the years. Thankfully, the last several years have been able to deliver the power that we all need for reliability and stability.

    Now, go make some music!!

  2. Cc-1 and CC-11 are the same controller for expression and also controls brightness of the instrument.

Cc-7 controls the the Mixer slider on the channel in Garritan!!!

I usually set my mixer slider, both channels and master, for one value at the beginning of the track and use the Automation lane set for Expression or Cc-11 to control the actual mixing of the instruments.

  3. I have absolutely got to turn off my wifi and above all, kill the antivirus before I even open any audio programs!!! When my Windows 10 antivirus is turned on my latency has to be upwards around 512 even on ASIO drivers!! With the antivirus off I can run the same large project at 128 to 170!!!

  4. I must admit that I really don't intend to seriously use Bandlab but CbB has to be updated thru Assistant so I keep Assistant updated just in case there is some gremlin hiding in there to keep things from running smoothly! Problem is Assistant Update is not running smoothly!!! The last 2 or 3 updates for Assistant has failed and I have to go online, etc. , etc.

Updating Assistant has become a real pain which really makes me wary of using Bandlab at all. Other than checking out Noel's great jazz guitar performances, Bandlab doesn't get much attention.

  5. This topic has been battled over for years. My own experience has taught me that converting 48k to 44.1 is just not that beneficial! Besides that, 48k sample rates have revealed artifacts in some VST plugins both during playback and worse on bouncing the track to audio or conversion to 44.1.

Personally, everything I do is 24 bit 44.1 k samplerate and have never had a problem or complaint. I work in a professional capacity doing everything from demos and commercials to full blown orchestra and choir projects. Country to fusion jazz. I have not had one complaint over all this time as to the quality of my work.

    I think I will stay at 24/44.1.

  6. If I may expand on my original reply. You can think of GPOs mixer sliders as controller 7. If you were recording in real time on the mixer you would set that slider to the best possible position for that section of instruments and leave it. Set your volume to the best OVERALL volume in the DAW track or use an automation track to set controller 7. Now using a controller 1 or 11 to control dynamics on the same track, the volume or dynamics will be controlled as if the players are performing the changes.

The main advantage of this is you can leave the dynamics or controller 11 data in tact and just reset the volume or controller 7 data for each track if you are moving your project to a different DAW.

I know it is confusing. Just think in terms of the mixer slider (controller  7)as a one time setting. The orchestra will be performing the dynamic changes as they play (controller 11).

One more thing! There is a setting in CbB preferences that disables Cake from resetting all controllers to zero on restart. Make sure you uncheck that box!!!!!! Otherwise all your controllers reset to zero and your sound will be completely shut down to zero!!!
