  1. I have been using a Shuttle Pro V2 for at least 10 years. Every button is programable to whatever Cakewalk command shortcuts you want for them. I use the inner wheel for jogging forwards and backwards through projects. I programmed the outer ring to dial note resolutions for entering notes on the staff view. I think it is fantastic!! On my Windows 10 PC occassionally it doesn't always automatically start when booting up and I have go to computer management select "Services" and find Contour Shuttle on the list and manually start it. I have had several where the USB cable connection went bad from constant movement. Last time this happened instead of buying a new one I contacted the manufacturer and they sent me a new cable no charge.
  2. Coincidentally, I found myself without internet this week and got the message that I needed to reactivate my Cakewalk or lose being able to use it. Saturday a week ago lightning fried my satellite internet router and the earliest I could get someone here to install a new one was ten days out. So, I had a work around. I connected my computer which has a USB WIFI (very cheap) to my cellphone hotspot and was able to activate my Cakewalk. I had a minimal cell data plan but enough for that and to keep me on the internet for a little while. I hope the guy that Viasat sends shows up tomorrow.
  3. I actually had this same thing happen this week. I had been working on a project for many days and had no issues saving. I found that the one thing I did different before I unexpectedly couldn't save the file getting the "General Error" was that I inserted an audio effect to an audio loop clip. It was Big Fish Audio loop and the effect was Izotope Trash 2. After deleting Trash 2 from the loop I was able to save the project. I tried to repeat the problem just now and loaded up the same project and inserted the same effect into an audio clip and there was no problem saving the file. Seems to be a transient issue.
  4. Darn it! Looks like the Udemy Max for Live course is on sale for the next 5 hours! Now 13.99 vs. regular 44.99. Hmmm.....
  5. It is a great DAW, for sure. When I first got the Live Intro it was great to play around with, but I didn't put any serious time into learning it due to its limitations. Now that I have a full version of Live to work with I have a steep learning curve ahead of me. Thanks to your information I am looking more at the Max for Live and it's powerful features makes the Suite upgrade worthwhile. The video of it shows a lot of cool stuff. Learning it will be another part of a steep learning curve for Live and I might go to Udemy to help me through it. Thanks for sharing your experience. -MF
  6. Thanks for the information. That's disappointing to hear. Well, at least I bought it on sale!!!
  7. I just bought the Live 10 Suite to take advantage of the sale. The Packs included in the Suite look interesting. Question: are Packs usable in anything other than Ableton Live?
  8. Thank you Gustabo for suggesting changing the streaming from RAM instead of disk. Today I was able to fast bounce to tracks the Cakewalk orchestral project I've been working on with 22 instances of Play instruments and the mix down was good. In PLAY- Settings menu Streaming tab I changed the Sample Cache level. Streaming options show Sample Cache- Disk Volume /Cache level and next to "New Volume" there is an up/down arrow with a corresponding number which is defaulted 3. I raised it to the maximum 5. The EW explanation is "The lower the level, the more is streamed from disk. The higher the level, the more is loaded into RAM" After changing this setting my Cakewalk project RAM went from about 6 gigs when Fast bounce didn't work right to now loading in about 8 gigs and Fast Bounce mixing down everything without issues. It's good to be able to use Fast Bounce again!
  9. I'm probably last to notice the problem. Always seemed to work before and this made me think it was related to a recent Cakewalk update. But, at least turning off fast bounce fixes the issue. Thanks for the information! -MF
  10. Last week I bounced to tracks a Cakewalk project with a EastWest QL Pianos part and whole piano sections(not all) bounced down to play back staccato notes. Playback of the project before mix down sounded fine. Cakewalk updates are current. I replaced the synth for the piano part with SampleTank3 grand piano which bounced to tracks with no problem. Over the weekend I began working on a full orchestra piece with all parts EastWest Orchestra Gold and mixed it down today to find that the same thing was happening to other instruments. I have been using EW instruments in Cakewalk projects for years and bouncing to tracks using Fast Bounce and this has never happened before. I checked for Play updates and installed the new EW update but it still happens. I have always used Fast Bounce for projects with EW instruments with no issues. I did another mixdown and unchecked the Fast Bounce option and it mixed down just fine. Fortunately, the problem seems to only occur when using Fast Bounce. It seems after one of the recent updates that Cakewalk Fast Bounce isn't working right with EW Play instruments. Anybody else having this happen? -MF
  11. I too am having problems opening Cakewalk. The Cakewalk by Bandlab splash screen comes up and stays there on the screen and Cakewalk does not even open. Windows 10 pro, 16 gig ram, Focusrite Scarlett 6i6. Is there any way to roll back?
  12. I use Acronis for backing up my PC system and for my Cakewalk projects I use Autosave Essentials by Avanquest which loads automatically when I boot up and whenever I save a Cakewalk file that I am working on it automatically copies it from my projects folder to a designated folder on an external drive. I don't even have to think about it. - MF
  13. Mark, thanks for weighing in. I will be using only ASIO drivers. One big advantage of USB for me would be that I could also use it on my laptop. Thanks!
  14. Colin, thanks for the great information and detailed analysis. Its good to have comparisons to other interfaces.
  15. My beloved EMU 1616m is starting to go on the blink. It has been a great audio interface on my 64-bit Windows 10 system. I'm looking to maybe replace it with Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 USB audio interface because the affordable price of 219.00 at Sweetwater and also it looks like it has all the inputs and outputs that I need. Will its performance be comparable to what I've been getting from the EMU. I wonder about the USB vs PCIe performance difference. There are several really great reviews of the Scarlett 6i6 on Sweetwater but a number of others who hated it. Anyone here have experience using it with Cakewalk?
  16. This has been an issue for me. But I just kind of mumbled and cursed about it to myself! I wondered what happened or when it stopped working the way it did in Sonar Platinum. Since the transpose option in the right clip pane was what I used most I programed a button on my Countour ShuttlePro2 with the Transpose shortcut. With that I am able to click on a clip to highlight notes or select the notes on screen and hit the button to bring up the transpose options and the highlighted notes stay selected. I would like it restored to how it used to be. I am glad that somebody is bringing it up here on this forum.
  17. Matthew- thanks for the suggestions. I got Wordbuilder to work. When I first reinstalled Play 6.1 after following the instructions the EW forum moderator gave me I checked my EW Installation Center and it showed Symphonic Choirs and a download arrow next to it. It was a big download file, and I didn't want to use up my broadband data and I thought I would just direct Play to my folder containing the Symphonic Choirs instrument samples. After doing that Wordbuilder wasn't working when I loaded Multi WB choruses which is when I posted the problem to this forum. Yesterday, I opened EW Installation Center to see what other EW instruments I have that might need an update and I noticed Symphonic Choirs indicated an available update, this time no big download. So that did the trick and Wordbuilder now opens correctly. Many thanks!
  18. Thanks for responding to my post and for the suggestions. It helps to know you and others on this forum have WB working on Play 6.1.0 and CbB. My post to their forum did show up on the Soundsonline forum a couple of days late. I tried a number of the WB patches. Below are the instructions given to me by the forum moderator. I followed everything suggested except searching for and deleting all files on my C drive of Play VST.dll. I did delete all the ones I found in the usual vst. dll folders before installing Play6.1 that I downloaded. When I have more time I will do it all again and also do a drive search for the Play vsts . If its still a no go after that I will open a ticket with EastWest. Thanks for commenting. -MF Please try the following: Download version 6.1.0 of PLAY here:
http://software.soundsonline.com/Pro..._6.1.0_Win.zip
Then, please browse to the Program Data folder on your C: drive*(not Program Files, you may need to choose "Show Hidden Files and Folders" under the 'View' tab in 'Folder options')*and delete the entire East West folder located therein. If you own QL Spaces, please be sure not to delete the QL Spaces folder.
Also, check your VST plugins folder and the VST plugins folder for your DAW specifically and make sure you are not accidentally loading a previous version of PLAY. You can delete any PLAY VST .dll files you find. This includes the VST3 at C:\Program Files\Common Files\vst3\ and also the vst2 ( play_VST_x64.dll ) which by default is at C:\Program Files\vstplugins\ but you should do a search for that file as you may have it elsewhere or duplicated (delete all versions you find)
Restart your PC and then reinstall PLAY from the update you downloaded earlier. If you can, open your DAW and have it scan for C:/Program Files/Vstplugins (or whatever folder you selected as your custom install folder). Then set-up your Libraries in Play, the easiest/fastest way is to do so through the EW Installation Center: EW Installation Center 1. Open the Installation Center and Login with your*soundsonline.com*account 2. Click the Main Menu and choose 'Reconnect Libraries'*
Note: That should refresh the connection to all the libraries you have installed, but if not, follow the steps below*
3. Hover over the library you want to add, and a gear should show up on the right-hand side 4. Click the Gear and then choose ‘Locate Directory’ 5. Find/Select the Instruments folder inside the Main Library Folder, then click ‘Open’
That library should then move itself into either your ‘Updates’ section, which you should then run, or into ’Installed Libraries’ which means it should be ready to use in Play
  19. I haven't used EW Symphonic Choirs in over a year and in that time I got EW Voices of the Empire and it required an upgrade to Play 6. Last week, I wanted to work on a choral composition and after opening Play 6 and loading in the Multi WB voice I found that Wordbuilder does not open when I click on the Wordbuilder button which now looks black, where before when it worked it was blue. Interestingly, I can load in an old choral project that used the previous Play version and WB seems to work, but when I load different vocal parts it doesn't work. I opened Play 6 standalone and have the same problem so I know it is not Cakewalk DAW related. I tried to post the problem to the Soundsonline Forums and my post went to a moderator who gave me some suggestions on what to do. I followed everything he suggested and it still doesn't work. I informed the moderator that I tried everything he suggested and still had the problem and asked that my post appear on the forum in case someone else might have an answer or have the same problem. My post never appeared on their forum. Talk about a tightly controlled forum!!! Makes me wonder how many other problems people have reported that aren't being shown on the forum. Anybody else here using Symphonic Choirs with Wordbuilder and Play 6 having this issue? At lease I know that my post to this forum won't be screened and rejected by a moderator.
  20. Well, I checked out the paint pattern feature and I am glad to now know that it is there in CbB. Somehow I missed learning about the pattern painting feature when it was added to Sonar Platinum. Sonar 8.5 had a Paint pattern Paintbrush Icon in the PRV view and a drop down menu for selecting from a range of drum patters such as conga, snare drum patterns etc. That feature the best I can tell was missing from X1-X3 and I assumed it was gone for good and I missed noticing it when it was added to the Draw Tool button (select pattern) in Sonar Platinum. It's actually better than the Sonar 8.5 PRV paintbrush that was limited to drum patterns in the drop down menu. I learn something new on this forum every day! Many thanks to the OP and Detwoen for posting a response to me.
  21. Cool! I'll have to look into it next time.
  22. I loved the paint tool feature but I thought at some point Cakewalk discontinued it. What version of Cakewalk/Sonar are you using? I believe it was discontinued in the Sonar X series. It's a great tool!
