  1. Desperado - Antonio Banderas - Cancion del Mariachi
  2. Straight, No Chaser - Thelonious Monk I like the way Monk plays with dissonances.
  3. Dancing In The Dark - Bruce Springsteen Or if you prefer, same title, different song by Fred Astaire We do the Springsteen song, and I enjoy singing it. I've never played the Astaire song but it sounds like it could be fun as well.
  4. Achy Breaky Heart - Billy Ray Cyrus
  5. Pérez Prado: Mambo Potpourri / Radio Radio • Antonio Delgado • New Brunswick Youth Orchestra My "Song Assassination Game" submission showed this in the sidebar, and I'm enjoying it.
  6. Mambo No. 5 - Lou Bega (I can't argue with success, but I hate what he did to the Perez Prado song, it's not even a Mambo anymore) As an antidote: We used to play the Perez version when we were hired by the Arthur Murray franchise to play for member dances. We tried to avoid the Lou Bega version, but we're good hos and we played it when requested.
  7. Mustang Sally - Sir Mack Rice (the original) Mustang Sally - The Young Rascals (my favorite version) It just needs a sax solo (I volunteer)
  8. Wolverton Mountain - Claude King Early on in our duo, we had a few requests for this one. We never learned it. I suppose it's a good song for those who like that kind of music, but it doesn't suit my tastes at all, nor do I think it would work for the majority of our typical audience. If it did, I'd learn it anyway.
  9. All this reminds me. I miss the days when we had full-service mom & pop music stores in any mid-sized town and up. I remember going to Ace Music in Miami and trying out 3 Selmer Mark VI saxophones in a 'practice room' with a strobe tuner and picking the one that had the best intonation. I remember local music stores with Gibson, Epiphone, Fender, Gretsch, and other major brands hanging on the wall. Unfortunately, those days are gone. The last two saxophones and the last two guitars I bought, I didn't get to try out first. Plus, I had to wait for delivery. Some things are definitely better than they used to be, others are not. Insights, incites and a minor rant by Notes PS I hope your bass arrives in perfect shape and in the end you decide it was worth the wait.
  10. My One And Only Love - John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman (A classic for sax players.)
  11. I remember Tiger Direct. I've done business with them before, when I was using desktop computers. Nowadays, I use nothing but ThinkPads and I get the software of my choice (without bloatware) from the factory. Tiger Direct always treated me decently. I hope your luck continues and you end up with two basses :) Notes
  12. If she screams in a vacuum, does she make a sound? And is vacuum the only word that has a double u in it that isn't a W?
  13. I've had problems with MF myself. Fortunately, mine ended up good. I hope yours ends up well, too. When the Parker Dragon Fly (now MaxxFly) first came out, I ordered one from MF. When it arrived, it was a MIDI MOJO fly, worth almost 3 times what I paid for. I called MF, informed them of the error, and they said they were out of stock for DFs and had no date for a resupply. They said I could keep the MIDI MOJO. I checked with the FTC, waited the required time to be sure if they changed their mind, they would have no case to get it back. I sold the MIDI MOJO in Ebay, took the money I got from the MOJO, both the Dragon Fly from another dealer, and with the money I made selling the MOJO I paid for the DF and still had $800.00 left over. So I got a free guitar and $800. Best deal I ever got. Notes
