I was using Mixbus before Cakewalk free jumped on the scene and I moved to it. I did like Mixbus and still have version 5 installed. It might be an avenue for me if Cakewalk Sonar is too expensive for me. I imagine I could upgrade to the latest Mixbus for a reasonable fee.

It is the silver model without a mix knob, the high frequency emphasis knob and, I would assume, less presets.

If I unfreeze a frozen track, the wave form disappears entirely. If I undo the unfreeze, it reappears.

When unfrozen, I've checked the take lanes and they are all empty - so unfrozen, nothing to be seen. Re-frozen, everything's fine, except of course it's frozen.

 

I am late in the game here, but a few things (if they have not been stated before):

1. when unfrozen, do the audio of the track plays?

2. if you right click an area where there should be audio on that track, do you get the full popup menu with the last entry in the menu as 'associated audio files'?

2. If it does, it might mean that it is a simple graphics problem. You may want to try selecting everything on the empty track then right click, select 'associated audio files' and then 'recompute picture(s)'

I read this comment often here. But can't help myself thinking 'for who?'.

If you are not making money out of something, how can it be a big mistake to stop? Do we ever say that a volunteer at a community center makes a big mistake if he quits for any reason?

I understand that it is frustrating for some to see their favorite free DAW stop being free. Me included. But I can't blame a group of developer and their company wanting to be paid for their work. I am a software developer and would rather be paid for my work so I can buy groceries, gas, housing and what not. Seems obvious, no? If the free model does not work anymore for Bandlab, they have no choice but to go to a paid version. No choice.

If we have a little patience and wait for the pricing to be announced, we may be surprised that it is affordable enough.

That is something I was thinking for quite a while now. Why doesn't anybody  do a version of their DAW that is just the recording, editing and vst support part of it? And concentrate on having these well designed and implemented. Just the DAW part, no stock plugins.

The plugin market is now full of very good free or very cheap plugins. If a version of a DAW without plugins could be had as a lower priced tier, that could be enticing for many who already have their plugin arsenal.

Because it is not. But it is a question of terminology. In software development, a beta release is usually restricted to a few individuals that have been chosen by the dev team from applications and you need to sign a non disclosure agreement. Betas are normaly private, but lately I have seen companies making public betas open to everyone. But that is a newer trend.

I am a software developer and I have participated in a few beta programs for plugins and other software, including software dev tools.

What the latest Cakewalk release is is an early access release. This means that the closed beta has occured and this last step is to get more people trying it out before and finding any bug that might have slipped the beta testers.

Like I said, it's a question of software development terminology.

I think the price point will make a difference in how it is received. Since @Noel Borthwick stated that it will be 'very affordable', makes it reassuring. We all love a free DAW but a very affordable one will be good enough I am sure. We all (mostly all?) have a budget for plugins, and probably many we do not really use, why would it be such a pain to pay some fair amount for a DAW that we love working with? And let's be honest, all software have some level of bugs or functions not working has we would like, even those that come at hefty price. Software is always a work in progress.

They are not clear that the beta version will stop working, but I doubt it will be usable after the deadline.

I do not own either. But for me Mid/Side processing is definitely a plus. It is a nice way to add width using saturation more to the sides. I see from the FabFilter Saturn documentation that it has it. But I can't see from the UA website if Plamen has it.

Geez, not even an 'installed!' by whoever used it...

I don't have that much experience, although I have built my own rudimentory acoustic panels for my home studio, but the problem that you are trying to resolve is not done using acoustic panels. Acoustic panels help in removing echo in a room and achieve a better frequency response. But what you are looking for is sound isolation or soundproofing, which is achieved using different means.

For your application, you probably need both since you will be recording and mixing in that room. Of course acoustic panels will offer some minimal soundproofing since they reduce echo and add some mass to the wall. But that is minimal.

Am I wrong to just believe that the bakers will simply post on this forum when it is available and give us all the details on how to install it? I just don't need to worry anymore than read this forum like I always do and I am confident I will be informed.

Noel and others have always communicated effectively through this forum when new stuff is available.
