  1. I had to grab it right away.  Now I will no longer have to sit and clean my recorder after every recording.*  I can just play this amazingly emotional VI to get my recorder sound!

*I haven't actually recorded me playing the recorder.  It just sits in its box most of the time.  But I do clean it every time I attempt to play it.

  2. My GAS-meter says "it's only 9 euros!  It does all sorts of cool things!"  The part of me that is trying to build a template and is really starting to regret owning so many libraries is saying "how different is it from all the other drone, whoosh, effect, etc... libraries I own?"

Is it sad the GAS is winning?

  3. The problem with a lot of these "We decided to make our own player" programs is that they aren't AAX compatible.  Yes, I could run them through Patchwork or VE Pro, but I won't remember they exist.

I do like a lot of their Kontakt libraries.

Was the degausser electric or one of those large magnets with a big metal grip?

Heh, side-note, my friend likes to use old hard drive magnets like most people use fridge magnets.  The huge difference is the power!  You can actually use them on standard drywall walls because they'll stick to the screw heads that are buried (they make for a cheap stud finder too!).  If you use them on your fridge, they can be quite difficult to get off!

it was an electric one.  Not very big.  We used it to clean the big reel to reel tapes that we played programming with.  It was an am station that did talk before switching to sports.  The talk shows were all recorded and replayed at night.  They also used it to clean the 4-tracks we used for commercials.

I still have one of my two Atari ST music computers somewhere in my crawl space. Yeah, I think it's time to let that go. I haven't turned that on since the early 90s!

I'd need to take the drives out and make them unusable first.  I really miss that degausser at the radio station I used to work at.

  6. I still have my old 8088 around.  It has 2 - yes 2! 20 mb hard drives and 2 floppy drives.  I was SET!   I have no idea if it still works.  I should probably try to set it up and turn it on.   It got me through college, so I was happy.

I am thinking I will not upgrade the eligible plugins unless I WUP, I am not sure I want three versions. I am toying with the idea of doing the WUP and getting everything up to date but its a lot of money for the privilege.  At least there is no intro offer pressuring a decision.

Everyplugin.com can get you a deal on the WUP.  They have directions on how to get the code so they can calculate the total WUP.  Generally, the WUP maxes out at $300 for everything if all WUPs are out of date.  So if you want to WUP everything eventually, it is better to do it at the same time as if it is more than $300, you will get a deal.

I did this last year when Waves had one of their WUP sales.  I think it was around $225 for all? Maybe a little less? I have Mercury and a bunch of random other stuff.  I only WUP'd to get new stuff on Mercury and because I was tired of the pain of trying to install my version 9 instruments.  (my effects plugins were all 10)

The other method is to use the upgrade option, click on all your products and see if there is a bundle that has them all that you can update to.  This is generally how I got to Mercury.  It was always cheaper to upgrade during a bundle sale than WUP'ing.

Just as a note, Everyplugin.com is a legitimate reseller that has some kind of a relationship with Waves, so they can do a bit more than others I've used.

  8. I like Prime. I usually buy enough that the free shipping is worth it.   I also do a bunch of subscribe and save stuff from them.  Mostly pet stuff.  And Nespresso pods because no one sells them in my area.  Buying food from Amazon is hit and miss, so I've mostly given up.  And frankly, since the only place to get a lot of things around here is Walmart, I have no problem going to Amazon.  23 check out lines and only 3 are ever open, 2 of which are 15 items or less.   Of course, after all this current mess is done, who knows what will still be open.

I did a quick look at Prime day sales items.  I would like another 6TB 7200 rpm drive, but I didn't see any with good prices.  Prices are still high for me on the 2 and 4 TB SSD's, so I'll probably wait.

Can it be used as VST? ;)

LOL!  True.  But then, depending on your computer,  Acustica Audio's doesn't work so well as a VST either.  Not mine, fortunately.

  10. I remember when ProTools LE was free.  If you didn't count the big dongle you had to buy for about $399 - aka the MBox.  But really, I still sometimes use the old MBox 2 Micro that came with PT8 LE.  Really like that thing when I am traveling and don't want to carry a big audio device.

Frankly, I thought Cakewalk was kind of pricey at first.  It didn't come with much.

  11. Thinking about getting Coffee for about $57.  I already have the cream. How come they don't have sugar?  😄

I've been slowly collecting these as they have been on sale and slowly learning to use them.  Most are very subtle in the sound gooder area which is hard for me to get used to.  But they do work.  And they do use CPU.  But really, I find it isn't any more than most of my Izotope plugins use.  I usually just get a track sounding good and then freeze or bounce it and disable the original if it gets too much.  I can always go back and change it later if needed.

The Ton looks good. For some reason I missed it last year and it had British Drama Toolkit (something I've wanted for ages), EDNA Earth, and a piano. I've been kicking myself since.

Yes, it changes every year also.  Since I had the piano and BDT, I go Edna for $37.  It was a pretty good deal.

  13. It's a TRAP!  They lure you in with their wonderful free Labs stuff and then the next thing you know you are paying $1200 to get the Symphony Orchestra on sale.

No, but really, the best deal they have all year is something called The Ton on BF weekend.  $99 for 3 libraries, usually one or more of which is normally over $100 regular price.

BTW, last BF they were down most of, if not all of, BF/CM. IIRC the year before that they had troubles, if not down too for that sale.

I'm waiting until BF only because I'm trying not to buy until then.  Of course, if something really great comes up for sale before then.....

I keep saying "No More!!!!"  Then a great deal comes along and I grab it!  The GAS gets me again.  😄

  15. A lot of times when they build these store sites, they buy a certain level (simple store) and then they outgrow the original setup.  Only it means starting all over with a new setup if you want to do it right. Unfortunately, most of these guys don't have time, money, or knowledge to upgrade to a bigger setup, so they muddle along until it finally gives out.

It happens a lot in retail as well.  There's a point you go from small to midsize to large.  If you don't do it right, it all collapses on you and you go out of business. There's a lot of competition out there and every year there's more.

That said, JRRShop and Eric have always been great to work with for me. I will continue to buy from them.  Though probably not until Black Friday.  I have a couple things on my list that they don't sell and I should quit buying and start saving for the BF/Xmas sales.  😉
