I think the mix sounds excellent - and it's a good song. I like the lead vocal as well. Nice job - sounds good to me.

That lead guitar sounds really nice in the mix.

Thanks Douglas - That was Smokey Toobz on the guitar - I agree, he played a great part.

Her vocal sounds so much crisper, how was this recorded?

Hi - this vocal was completed remotely, I don't know what mic she used.  As far as my processing, I removed some of the existing reverb and used Nectar 3 to mix it in with the rest of the track.  I let Nectar three sense her vocal and make recommendations.  Then I backed of the amount of compression, again brought the reverb down, added a touch of tape saturation, boosted the EQ a little at 3K.  At the three minute mark, I boosted the volume a few dB.

Thank you for listening and commenting!

Glad you found a way that works!  Just in case anyone’s interested...

To Paste the Tempo map from one project to another:

    1. Open project with the desired tempo map.

    2. Open Tempo view, adjust the bar to the right to see the Tempo list.

    3. Highlight All tempos. (Click the top one then Shift Click the bottom one to highlight all tempos)

    4. Go to Edit, and click Copy Special, Tick the box labeled Tempo changes and Untick everything else.  Click OK.

5 Minimize this project and open the one you wish to paste to.

    6. Open tempo view and tempo list and Highlight All of the tempos.

    7. Ctrl V to Paste the previously copied tempo map to the new project.

    Bam! All new tempo map!

    ✌️

Thank you!  Working with Tempos has been my biggest PITA.  This works great!

    Hi Everybody,

This is a new track on a new album I'm working on called "The Westerly Sessions Vol. I". Any comments and critiques are welcome.

By the way, I sang the lead vocal with an AT4040 through a Warm Audio Tone Beast (I just bought it used recently - I really like it).  The acoustic guitar is a Guild OM-140 recorded with a Studio Projects B1 mic. The lead guitar is a Fender Strat through THU. The drums are EZDrummer.

    Here it is:

    Good job on this Douglas.

Steve, this is very special and unique at the same time.  I like the way you think out of the box, and I find it very educational.  I'm gonna have to jump back into this song a few more times to grok the coolness of the arrangement.  Stay busy and healthy!

Thanks Lynn - Usually it is tough for me to write lyrics - I am very happy with how this one came out.

Hello to all my CW friends.  I hope you're all staying healthy and safe and finding some joy in your music.  I have just  finished a song based on true events, inspired by the Covid-19 virus.  It's a song about someone losing a loved one in this battle, though it offers a glimmer of hope in the end.  My friend, Roger Fife, played bass on this, but I did the rest with help for the first time from EZ Keys on the piano.  I went a little more mainstream than normal, but under the circumstances, I think it was appropriate in this case.

I hope you enjoy it and will offer suggestions and advice, as usual.  As always, thanks a million for listening and all your help.  "Days Gone By" can be found here: https://soundclick.com/r/s8ctxx

Nice job Lynn - I like your vocal tone on this one - also the harmonies.

    Lyrics

If there are words you've never said before,
tell them to me, and I'll tell you.
Precious time is running out, while I'm watching...
    as I'm watching.
    Before you go.

It's been a while since we've...held each others hand.
I'll hold it now, as your eyes are asking why....
why this has to end.  It breaks my heart.

There's a doctor in the house, who wears compassion on his sleeve...
telling everyone, that God is make believe.
And every silence takes my breath, until the breathing starts again.
When you open up your eyes, do you recognize my face.

Seconds ticking slowly in the dark of night.
Flowers scent the air, a reminder, of this world's friends.
Tether's almost broken, pretty soon, you'll go.

If there are words you've never said before,
tell them to me, and I'll tell you.
Precious time is running out, while I'm watching...
    as I'm watching.
    Before you go.

You do Beatles songs as well as anyone I've heard in years.  You keep it recognizable, yet you own the song by making it unique.  A+

Thank you my friend - I appreciate the feedback.  What's in the pipeline for you?

Yeah, some of it "did not" sound good, too radical, even before I started recording, when I was younger listening to Beatles, early stuff, I would wonder why they mixed with those weird pannings, it made you just want to listen to it in mono instead. Man, I miss The Beatles creativity in music, that's the group I grew up listening to. Ha, I am no spring chicken, turned 67 this year.

Hey Steve...I figured out why I could not get the quote button to work on this forum. I went through all my plugins / extensions in my Firefox browser and turned them off one at a time, and would try the quote button after turning off each extension,  when I got to this one --->   (OurStickys - Sticky Notes on every page Add Persistent Sticky Notes anywhere on any web page, they will reappear when you re-open the page) and turned it off, the quote button immediately began working correctly. 😁

Oh well, time to get some zzzzzzzzzzz. 😴

Right there with you brother!  I remember being excited on the 5th grade school bus because the Beatles were on TV that night!

Speaking of panning...It's odd, but somehow on a lot of older songs from the 60's and 70's where instruments and or drums were panned in weird ways, it seems to have worked ok a lot of times even though if I try to copy the song with my instruments and plugins and pan like that it does not sound good, things sound out of place, I don't how they were able to do that and make it sound good. 😕

Yes, I've heard some of those early stereo weird panning songs.  In fact, this one, Martha My Dear is one of them.  The piano is all the way to one side, which makes the stereo almost impossible to listen to in headphones when it is the only thing playing.  A lot of the early Beatles stuff is like that.

A lot of home studio folks say they don't use or don't like to use any of the stereo widening plugins. But, I have found one that I really like and to my ears it sums quite well to mono, it's the one by Ozone called Ozone Imager. I use it all the time now even while I am tracking, for me it seems to add that (stereoness?) for lack of a better term that seems missing when you just do simple panning. You can do similar effect using delays, but then I definitely notice a difference when summing to mono.

I use Imager a lot as well.  I used to use it more (even with the stereo button on, which they say you should only do for mono).  I've cut back over the past year or so because my ears became more attuned to it and I think I was overdoing it.  There is a post I added a while ago that takes a download from Spotify and checks it with Ozone, and it looks like the spectrum is a lot narrower than what I was using.  https://baselines.com/?p=5510

I don't really care much any more about the whole summing to mono thing, I like the sound of stereo and I mean for my music that I create to be listened to that way, in stereo with headphones or speakers. Do you use any of those stereo widening plugins?

I feel the same way.  I don't care to much about what it is going to sound like on AM radio and I don't think too many people listen on their phones without earbuds. 🙂
