How would they ever know. I just played the Deflowered Choir PAID, and they sounded very similar...

Well, let's say your track gets air time and it becomes famous. They're going to be like "Oh, that sounds like they used Virgin Choir. Let's sue him". Then you'll have to prove you didn't use their POS library. Not like it didn't happen to Skrillex and Bieber. Just search for Casey Dienel aka White Hinterland.

Also my main Genelec monitors are vented and sound amazing, so don't discount bass reflex designs.

Maybe the engineers at Genelec are on to something as, from what I've seen, most of their models are rear ported. Never used Genelec, but they were a prime option years ago when I was shopping for monitors. Someday I'll give them a try.

To their credit, I logged a ticket and they removed that line.

Just a point of clarification, the subject of the thread is the XR series, which is a step down from the current HRmk2 series, so while "they don't make them like they used to" is certainly open for discussion, it's not a fair comparison between the current XR series and the original HR series.

For what it's worth, a few months ago I purchased the 5" model of the Mackie MR series, which is another step down from the XR series, but for the price, I'm extremely happy with them. Especially compared to the direct competition from other brands (JBL 305P mkII, Yamaha HS5, etc.) In my opinion, the Mackie MR is the most accurate/natural sounding of the bunch, and that is what is important to me. YMMV.

True, but I'm only concerned with their higher end line. If I remember well, I think they had an issue with the HR824 mk1's. They corrected that with the mk2's, and while still very good (nominated for a TEC Award in 2008), they couldn't beat the originals. The HR824's won the TEC Award in '98, not to mention they're also THX certified.

Very true...and very sad.  Buying a plugin should be the same as buying a piece of hardware.
Once you don't need it, or go out of business, you should be able to sell it without paying the
company a "fee".  While it's true that it's only a "license", that license is YOURS!  It's like paying
the company TWICE....once for the privilege of using it, and once for the privilege of NOT using
    it.

I'm pretty sure some sleazy lawyer concocted that. I don't need a license for a can of beans now, do I? 🤣 Like they concocted the Public Performance License... 😂

THIS is the reason that "resale ability" and "resale price" are so important to me.
If I buy a plugin for $100, and then decide that "it's not what I need", then I need to
be able to get the majority of that money back.  Sadly, most companies are NOW
making that virtually impossible!  This FEE and that FEE etc...etc...and LOW resale
price makes plugins a BAD investment for ANY Studio Owner...let alone us "hobbyists"

That's the reason people pirate the crap out of them. They want us to treat their digital goods as physical items, but when we try to do the same thing... oops, you can't do that.

And we're back to square one.

I'm not sure what the issue is now. You already have the DAC which has plenty of power to drive your headphones. At this point, any audio interface will do as long as you connect the line outputs to the DAC. 😉

Power is not what I am concerned about, but clarity, punch, TIMBER (Sound Quality). If it's kind of low, that's ok, that's where my headphones amplifier comes. But I read the Babyface Pro doesn't have an issue driving 250 ohms headphones. Cheers.

Dude, these days the audio clarity and punch is no longer an issue even for the low end audio interfaces. No matter how great the sound it renders, if the headphone amp doesn't have the power to drive the headphone drivers (at 250 ohms they need a lot of power for the drivers to vibrate)... it's always going to sound crappy no matter what. Instead of hanging on to a pair of cheap so-so headphones and spending a ton of money on interfaces and gear to drive them, it would've been easier and simpler just to replace your headphones.

This is what I wanted to know ;) Thanks so much. Will hold your word to it, ok? lol 🤗

😄… it won't disappoint. The headphone amplifier had enough power to drive my LCD-2's (70 ohms), but can't say for your DT-990's. 250 ohms? That's just crazy. Maybe the issue are the headphones... 🤣

I think you mean connect the Babeface output to my Schiit headphones preamp. Is just if the Babeface doesn't sound king of great, all the Schiit preamp will do is amplify that not so greatness. But if the headphones output (or line outputs ) are clean and perfectly defined (ok, perfectly is a strong word, lol) then yeah, the Schiit will make it sound beyond amazing. Cheers.

I wouldn't go with the headphone output. Use the line outputs form the Babyface. They sound great.

So the "FS" in the Babyface Pro has to do w/ an improved DAC?

Improved clock. FS stands for Femptosecond. Less jitter during conversion.

Thanks mate, highly appreciated. Just wondering how the Babyface and my DAC (USB) can work together?
For example, in Reaper, you have to select an interface (or DAC) but not both.
    That's my main concern.

Use the Babyface as your audio interface and connect the main outputs to the inputs of the Schiit. I believe the Schiit only has RCA inputs so you'll need to find the proper cables.
