…it won’t have VST2 support and everybody will be sad for the next 30 years.

Not me.  With REs and VST there's too many choices.

Not all DAWs are quick at scanning plugins.  With over 1000 combos of VST it takes awhile.  I can even make the quick loading Reaper come to a slight crawl.

Cubase 13 Pro crossgrade is still $209 at BestService .  Looks like a better deal now.  Wish Presonus announced this while the $20 BS coupons were still good.

One positive about the Yamaha take over is no longer needing a hardware dongle and license 3 machines.  To me licensing is the #1 choice in buying software.

  3. Meanwhile those of us loyal Image Line users live in fear our world will come tumbling down.

I always liked Studio One because it was easier for people to transition from another DAW.

89 € each. There are two 49 € Pianoteq expansion instruments that cover basically the same instruments. So, is it worth an extra 40 € times 2 for the MIDI that comes with the Toontrack VIs? Not too sure about that. I think I'll wait for a sale.

I view something like this as a money pit once you take out the player that offers midi.  I have plenty of these mallet libraries.

Yeah, I was searching for what "Lead Architect" even was, and there is absolutely no information on the PreSonus website about it (yet). As far as VSTis go, I do not find that video demo very appealing at all for some reason  (there are a bunch of similar VSTis not DAW-locked or requiring a subscription to use).

It did make me find an odd nugget right at the very beginning of the MSoundFactory tutorial video though (never watched it before). The second sentence in the video... "Most likely our last instrument..." It has been out 3+ years already and didn't know that.

They've been selling their own libraries for some time and no their are not any substitute for what you have.   Hopefully they don't get the bad idea of leaving out features labeled Pro  which only becomes a pro version providing you sub.  There's no shortage of perpetual DAWs out there.

PA is a relationship gone sour. Shake the vine until it gets slippery again or give up and feel the pulse of the past.

The good thing though is it is an alliance and some developers left.  If PA is gone that doesn't leave people left out but at a cost if you want a non PA edition.

Support informed me Loopcloud is going to remove very soon within week or two free daily sounds which you could claim

not very nice move considering it costs them nothing

With all of the mailing lists I belong to there is never a shortage if getting loops for free.

How many people get screwed out of something using subs vs. perpetual?  The sub model is often all or nothing because they alter a deal without any sense of loyalty. This is happening with streaming services as well.

You never know but maybe some of those who produce loops don't like their stuff given away.  We've seen 2 developers who left PA because pf the race down to zero.

  8. There's always a risk of buying someone's code and hopefully retaining those people responsible for it.   It's rare to have that same staff.   There's a lot more turnover than we know when enshitifcation sets.  This is nothing new under the sun.

I'm new to Reaper. After getting it, I feel like this is the DAW I should have used all along. But the current version 7 of Reaper is actually the best version to get as newcomer. It feels like it can do everything every other DAW can do. With the help of freely available scripts that you can easily get for it($0), you can have a visual modulation environment to modulate ANYTHING (the Q knob of an EQ modulated by the mix knob of a Reverb or anything crazy like that, even in parallel!), a visual scripting environment to create your own scripts, and effects that are on par or better than ones you have to pay for.

It would have actually saved me a lot of money FOR plugins if I got Reaper as my first DAW actually😆

    All for $60! 🤑😛🤪🤣

    Fixed it for you.

Wow, that's a crazy price. I just picked these up a few months ago. But I still haven't gotten around to installing my new SSD to download them.. The demos sound gorgeous to my ears.

[DISCLOSURE: I've stated this a bunch of times,  but just to be transparent,  8Dio  is one of more than 3 dozen developers I've given consulting advice to over the years. Although I've only advised them on the SoundPaint brand,  not 8Dio.]

At this rate it's more like do I new to add another one or upgrade to a bigger one.

It's WAY longer than 2 years. I had a v4-v5 license that I needed to replace when v6 was released. I bought my v6-v7 license in early December, 2019, over 4 years ago! And v7 is just getting going.

I just hope they make enough money to stay in business. I'd be more than happy to pay that $60 every 2 years. That's about how often Studio One gets a major version update. I can't find a receipt, but I think I pay 2-3 times that to PreSonus every couple of years.

I can't think that they don't.  Their money isn't tied up in a lot of admin costs.  I don't think they do NAMM booths. They probably don't have an extremely large staff.

Think of the users who use it casually will always buy another upgrade.

Sound advice (no pun intended). I've decided to give it a go. I realise I probably won't touch every feature though, simply because I might not know about them to use them, and so would appreciate hearing about any unique/'must-have' features if anyone has any insights. There are a few posts saying the MIDI capabilities are really advanced, but I'm not sure which ones specifically they are - from what I've read, I've so far seen the logic editor it one of the most powerful features.

Edit: also, there's a lot to go through if I want to take advantage of the Best Service Easter codes which are available up until 1 April.

Very true. So far, I'm finding the UX and concepts to be a mix of S1 and Sonar, which is understandable from its heritage. But coming from S1, it feels there's a need to be very explicit - e.g. deleting a send doesn't move the sends below it up; it leaves a blank space. Not saying it's 'bad': I expect the concept works well for the user base; it's just seems a bit strange to me at first.

I found that really confusing at first - I click the X, but the dialogue pops up again.

Most DAWs are that way.  I get the popularity of Reaper because of all of it's features.   FL and Live are quite popular because you can start right away with very little knowledge but once you get past their simplicity FL Studio has they features I have no clue what they are about. I doubt I understand 10% of the features/fixes released in Reaper.

Cubase seems to be for the heavy orchestra user but I've seen people use those EDM type DAWs and do the same thing.  I also seem trance templates for Cubase.  People left Sonar for Cubase because of the superior staff view.

It will probably upset a fanboy or two but there's a large thread on Vi Control why they left Cubase.  I think there is one for Reaper as well.

I scored a very cheap upgrade from Elements 12 to Elements 13, I just use it to open old projects though.

What interests me of Cubase is Reverence and only comes in the pro version.

I have Reaper 7, and Luna is beautiful and FREE.

I never buy stuff except special ocassions, I don’t suffer grom gas, life is great.

You don't belong here.  Lemme guess you also work on music as well.  🤣

Disk space is kinda helping me to not buy stuff. I'm also getting to the point of avoiding free stuff.  Sort of.....

Could someone explain why I might like Cubase if I have Studio One Pro? (Please bear in mind I've enough third-party plugins to make 'better stock plugins' not an overly compelling argument for me.)

Also, I heard they got rid of the dongle. What's the copy-protection system now?

No.  Try a demo instead of listening to others.  I always like the look of Studio One.  I don't like the rounded corners in Cubase.  Sometimes it's not always about features but does it gel with you.  What I like about Reaper, FL Studio, and Live, you click on it and it opens up ready to do something. Cubase is a click twice to exit.

IMO they stumble, because they have done too many management games (sellings, reorganisations, priority changes, ...)! This annoys a lot of the competent stuff and if they leave, then they cannot be replaced easily! But YMMV.

That's common ins the business world.  There are plenty of people who helped founding a company and leave because the goalbecomes where 99% is about profits and the 1% is about the service they provide.
