  1. Is there anyone out there familiar with using the nord electro (mine is the 2) as a MIDI controller with CbB?? All is well and as expected with keyboard play and buttons and knobs for controllers except for the Octave Shift buttons (cc 29 from the nord) do not alter the MIDI notes being received from the keyboard, so no octave shift is obtained as would be expected or desired. These buttons do shift the octave of the onboard sounds on the nord, so the hardware is functioning. The nord manual indicates that this MIDI octave shift data should be sent as expected and that the only MIDI info not implemented is the pitch shift and mod wheel data, because, well, the keyboard doesn't come with those pieces of hardware. No surprise there. I can determine that MIDI data is being sent when pressing these Octave buttons and that Cakewalk is indeed receiving it at cc 29, however no change occurs. I know how to filter the incoming note info once received in order for the notes to play at the desired octave (with note transpose sliders on the MIDI offset control in CW, for example) but the notes as seen by CW still get recorded/notated in the default octave. I can then select all and transpose, of course, but obviously this is all just a tiresome workaround. And I know how to assign MIDI controllers to functions in the DAW, but this octave shift function, so basic and ubiquitous, seems to not be available to assignment. How and where does Cakewalk receive and use this octave shift data from MIDI keyboards? Is it, in fact at controller number cc 29 ? Is there a way to go in and edit it to use cc 29 if not??
  2. Well.... what happens when you press SHIFT or ALT with the Smart Tool selected??
  3. What's the "wrong tool" ? It works (the SHIFT and ALT options) as expected with the Smart Tool
  4. Does it not work for you to hold SHIFT while dragging the single clip start edge on the lane you want? Otherwise, holding ALT while mousing to the upper half of the chosen clip and then clicking to split just that clip at that point also now works. These are operable on my latest build version (2020.1, build 28), anyway.
  5. O, got it. I'm on a laptop with no Numpad. But no worries I'm working it out.
  6. @Heinz Hupfer These are great! Certainly faster than Ctrl-T > type "12" > Enter ! Thanks so much for sharing! I don't see the semi-tone transpose scripts, but easy enough to take it from here. Thanks again!
  7. How do you bind a keystroke to a specific CAL script?
  8. I have found no fewer than four of the oft-mentioned and important "Cakewalk Core" folders on my machine in the following locations: C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core C:\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Core What are the differences and which should we be concerned with for importing/exporting/saving of presets, templates, key bindings and such? The two at ...\ProgramData\ and ...\AppData\Roaming\ would seem to serve similar purposes but contain slightly different files, perhaps due to my own confusion in thinking (up to now) that there was only one "Core" folder and having at times chosen the "wrong" one. Should these two be mirrors of each other?
  9. Yeah, I feel a little slow for not copping to that at first as well, especially since I've been through a similar thing before. I did check the key bindings right off but found N and Ctrl-Shift-N to have the appropriate default bindings. It's just that they had, at some point, gotten bound to additional commands in different contexts, which is enough to knock it all off kilter. The multiple bindings don't make themselves clear unless you really comb through the menus and hunt them down. For me custom bindings are an absolute workflow game-changer and the basic defaults are never sufficient. But even still, I see no reason at all to have more than one binding to the same command or vice-versa, and it causes such turmoil. Further reason why there should be a stop gap to prevent such a set-up. For sure, though, the protocol to chase down CbB issues at this point should always begin with setting Workspaces to "none" (this seems to be #1 now), zapping all key bindings, and by-passing all FX while you're at it, and then begin to troubleshoot.
  10. .....However! And Holy Bejeweled Mother of Fudge! For those of you following my, apparently private saga, bless your little hearts!..... I seem to have gotten somewhere - and it doesn't have to do with Workspaces for once! This virus quarantine solo cabin fever workflow makes one dive deep! In order to have a clean slate to troubleshoot with, and inspired by @User 905133's tenacity in sharing my woe, I opened New>Empty project, set Workspaces (just to be sure) to None, and (here's the kicker!), zapped all in my Preferences>Customization>Keyboard shortcuts (or Key Bindings) in order to have a clean slate there as well. And this last thing is what shed the scales from my eyes! I have run into problems before with Key Bindings and am surprised that I didn't think of this before now. Simply put, Cakewalk allows you (mistakenly, I would say) to bind the same keystrokes to multiple functions as well as having a single function bound to multiple keystrokes! Doing so causes no end of confusion and wasted time. I have been through this before and spent literally days going through my decade-long built up custom bindings and eradicating (or so I thought) all the double (or even triple) binds to try and deal with that problem back then. Since there are multiple context windows to go through with many functions and many many key combinations, it takes quite a while. Perhaps a better approach would be simply Zapping All and starting all over again, but as I say, years of custom bindings that are now so ingrained... I wished (and requested) then and I wish even more now that CW would simply not allow you to create multiples of any of these bindings/functions, or at least warn you that you are about to do so. This is the way it is, after all, in other programs, so it seems an oversight. Anyway, with the Keyboard Shortcuts settings it would appear that IF you should happen to bind N to anything anywhere else in all the different contexts, and despite its still being bound to and successfully functioning as the Snap on/off toggle, the keystroke looses what I now see is called its "Toggle Extended" status, which seems to account for its ability to be held down without repeating its action. And IF you should happen to to bind Ctrl-Shift-N to anything anywhere else in all the different contexts it will cease functioning as the Secondary Snap toggle even though it still shows that it is bound to that function. Both of these things I had done at some point over the years and both of these things exactly cause the issue I have been brooding on about here! So sorry! Now I have a functioning Secondary Snap Scenario! Although while the over-mentioned holding down of the N key no longer repeats its toggling action over and over, neither does it allow anything else to be done with mouse or otherwise. This last point seems to be the case on laptops using recent Synaptics touchpad drivers which don't allow simultaneous keyboard and touchpad use, or in other words won't let "Smart Sense" be turned off completely. For me now Ctrl-Shift-N successfully toggles between two Snaps where I can just make any settings in the normal way once in each of the alternates, and that is what maintains. There is no indication that you are in a "Primary" or "Secondary" snap however, so it is technically possible to have the exact same settings in each and not know that you are in the alternate. Toggling will show no difference in this case. Once I got Ctrl-Shift-N working, the default for the second snap was at "1 tick", so it was definitely obvious. Thanks all for bearing with me!
  11. Ain't that the truth! Thanks for the splash of cold water! I just got pulled into it, cuz, well, the manual says it so many times....
  12. What did you figure out by this? Or do you mean you just noticed those differences but had no influence on it yourself? Are you also on Windows 10? I wonder if these repeated keystrokes when holding key down behaves differently in different OS versions, or...... something And then (sorry for all the pesky questions!) you say "Ctrl+Shift+N allowed me to toggle. " but then in your image (3) it seems that you're saying N Held Down is toggling the Secondary snap. Or is it just temporarily activating Secondary snap only while you hold it? And can you move your mouse while holding the N down??
  13. And I wish now that I hadn't learned about this feature, because I would very much like to use it 😉 but am prevented from doing so. How were you able to create your own toggle states, I wonder. Did the pressing and holding N while mousing to the settings and choosing work for you? And, on a lighter note, how did you get "Engineered in Boston" to show on your tool module??
  14. Yes! I want to say - of course it does! So, I'm waiting to see if and how anyone has it not do that! But, it's in the manual, so it must work!
  15. EDIT: [SOLVED] - Solution discussed in a post in the following link... This issue has come to my attention through a discussion elsewhere here on Snap settings, and I wanted to put wider focus on it in case there are more expert heads who might understand what is going on. Otherwise, I'll send it off to Support... In wanting to set of Secondary Snap settings I find I am unable to do so. The manual instructs: So, in order to set-up and use Secondary Snap functions you must press and hold down the N key while using the mouse to choose settings. However, pressing and holding the N key simply repeatedly toggles Snap on and off which is what the N key is set to do in Key Bindings, and the mouse will not function at all while it is being held. Indeed, holding down any key, will repeatedly toggle whatever function (if any) is bound to it as long as I hold it and the mouse will not respond at all while doing so. I'm not sure if this is a "bug", because this is exactly how the keyboard/mouse functions in any other program I run as well - holding a key repeats that key and mouse functions cease while doing so. Unless.... Cakewalk is meant to bypass somehow this otherwise "normal" keyboard/mouse protocol to allow for these special functions? and it is not doing so for me for some reason. Anyone else?? An interesting clue, perhaps, is that in the video I've attached here to try and show what happens when I press Ctrl-Shift-N (nothing), or when I press and hold N (repeated toggle Snap on and off), my keyboard keystrokes, despite being set to be indicated in the lower left corner of the video, do not display when I'm capturing from CbB. My keystrokes DO display when recording from any other program outside of CbB with the same capturing software. (This issue persists whether I am running the screen capturing software or not, BTW) This seems to indicate CbB interfering somehow with "keystroke protocol"...? I dunno. Who does? For more clarity, I have the default keyboard/mouse drivers that are installed with Windows 10 on an HP laptop, no 3rd party keyboard/mouse apps, and a fresh (one day old now) re-install of CbB. 2020-03-23-14-22-06.mp4
  16. Interesting. So you got it to work once so you could set up the secondary settings in the "official" way? Tell me, don't you find that pressing and holding any key will stop the mouse from working? That is how it is for me. Pressing and holding any key will repeatedly toggle whatever function (if any) is bound to it as long as I hold it and the mouse will not respond at all while doing so. I'm not sure if this is a bug 'tho, because it is exactly how the keyboard/mouse functions in any other program I run as well - holding a key repeats that key and mouse functions cease while doing so. Unless.... CW is meant to bypass somehow this otherwise "normal" keyboard/mouse protocol to allow for these special functions? And it is not doing so for me. An interesting clue, perhaps, is that in the video I've attached here to try and show what happens when I press Ctrl-Shift-N (nothing), and then press and hold N (repeated toggle of Snap), my keyboard keystrokes, which are set to be indicated in the lower left corner of the video do not display when I'm capturing from CbB. My keystrokes DO display when recording from any other program. Again, I have the default keyboard/mouse drivers installed with Windows 10 on an HP laptop and no 3rd party keyboard/mouse apps, and a fresh (one day old now) re-install of CbB. I think this is one for Bakers' support.... 2020-03-23-14-22-06.mp4
  17. ... Anyone else out there who has success or not with using the above mentioned "Secondary Snap" set-up procedure and usage?? I just can't get it working.
  18. Strange, @Rick Derer What about if you type in the start and finish in the Selection module in the control bar (you might have to display it by right-clicking in an empty area in the Control bar and choosing Modules>Select) ?
  19. Did it. Thanks! Dunno why I had never experienced this before. But anyway. The world is a confusing place right now....
  20. Workspaces! ...... I'll bet. Everything comes back to Workspaces.
  21. ...The thing that is confusing is, I am now on a secondary machine as I have had to leave New York City and and my studio there and self quarantine off in a cabin where I've brought a few things to keep working. The Win10 laptop I am on here had just a fresh CbB on it with Melodyne functional. I brought a portable installation of X3 that someone else had put together for me to install and try and mirror the setup on my studio machine back in the city. Loading that (X3, then installing CbB again) now I guess brought about the discrepancy. I did not keep track of license and moving registrations over when the company changed a while back - something I vaguely remember - and now don't have that info. I had never been aware that Melodyne wasn't just an included part of Cakewalk as it always seemed to be. I had never experienced it to simply stop working. I have it activated now (I think). So my only question now, I guess, is: is the "Add-on" of Melodyne offered through the BL Assistant app just a temporary version that lasts for a period of time then needs to be paid for, or is it a simpler free version built in to CbB??
  22. Yes. I am looking... I don't remember ever doing anything but just letting Cakewalk install Melodyne, both before with Sonar and lately with CbB. It was very long ago when I originally did. And then it was just refreshed just last week when I re-installed everything. If it turns out I don't have access to the license info, isn't it still available to me as the Add on with Bandlab?
  23. The VST3 plug-in the the one offered as an "Add on" in the Bandlab Assistant, you mean? This is the only one I use or require. I'm pretty sure it installed/undated with my recent re-install of CbB. Now it's just gone. !? Why is it greyed out in the Add-ons list?
  24. I have been using Melodyne with no issues in Sonar/CbB for years and as recently as yesterday. Today, all of a sudden, it no longer appears in my RegionFX list. I try to uninstall it from Add/Remove programs and reinstall it from Bandlab Assistant, and it just shows as greyed out (as do the other Add-ons). What has happened?
  25. At the end of the video, after the problem is shown, I also show the list of edits from Edit>History.
