    Thanks for responding guys!

Avoid 1903 and 1909 build. Those builds was buggy in general. I'm currently testing the 21h1 build, which has not been released yet / and so far, this version (since the 1803 build) is much more stable. The big upgrade in new features will come in the 21h2 build of Microsoft Windows 10

Get your hands on the "Windows 10 Pro 20h2" / OR / for now, stay on the 1803 build.

We can call it maybe multiple columns in the right click context menu. We need this kind of feature in Drum Maps too. Rematrix Solo has this kind of feature. Navigating between files is easy.

    Exactly.

Locating a specific file will be a breeze.

I don't really have to scroll and it says I've got 715 plugins but I suspect some of those are old 32bit dupes I should have zapped but I've organised them all into my own folders.

I'm with you on Track view real estate  - I don't like the double sized Inspector and wish I could put it back the way it used to be. But I keep the Browser open as I find it so much quicker to do a text search for a plugin than the old method..and if you have it docked on the left it's not very far to drag !

    image.png.29f1459f6b1ec2ade6725a3ab0e7a785.png

Shortcut B opens and closes it...or I have a macro on my Streamdeck that closes both the Inspector and Browser with one key

For some reason, I can't deal with those windows. A clean interface looks attractive. I have a decent size monitor too for real-estate on that.

You (especially you given that plugin list :-)) could still run out of screen real estate...what happens then (genuine question)?

You (especially you talking about running out of window) will still have easier access to all of them. What happens then (Genuine question)?

  5. A "wide window" that show all the effects in it's category on one window.

EXAMPLE: Lets say you have 200 Compressor plugins in your Dynamic category folder it's gona show/view all 200 plugins in that folder on one windows.

Do you not use the FX Browser then ? I've not used the old method since about 8.5 ...10 yrs ?

Scrolling to a plugin occurs there too. ?

Unless I take time off to delete all those unnecessary plugins I dont use anymore, but that's gonna take 10years  ?

I don't use the dock windows anymore - other than just for adding samples.

A flatbed will be ideal. Not everyones workflow are the same. I find those dock windows unattractive. It's been almost 8years I'm not using the dock windows anymore.

I'm trying to keep as much real estate in track view and console available. It's also a long plugin dragging-insert. ?

On hand is quicker and better for my workflow.

Good idea what I mean about my workflow: I dont scroll up to the TOOLS MODULE I use the shortcut "T" at place where my Mouse cursor is. That's quick fast and efficient.

A flatbed will be the same.

    Respectively.

  7. Feature request for a flatbed effect list.

Cakewalk really needs this feature for its effect list. Scrolling to an effect that's at the botton - so tedious! ?

The last update, brought my request to 70%  - With this, it'll be 80% that's where Cakewalk sits on features with me today under it's new home.

The other 20% is stability, New/better Automation features, New Export features too - like adding a single or Album Art cover.

Than there's just small enhancements to do here and there at the very last stage. That's how satisfied I am with Cakewalk today.

Right click on the catagory, open the list and at the bottom is Reset category. If anything was in there it goes to the uncategorized folder.

    Screenshot (34).png

The best thing to do is to move the plugins to the category you want it to be in / and delete all the duplicate vsts  in the x86 common file folder and Vst folder.

What's actually nice about moving thing around in the browser is that you can create subfolders too. You can place different compressors subfolder in its main folder.

With me, My multiband plugin folder are placed in my compressor folder. This keeps things neat for me. The catergory delete itself when it becomes empty. I'm not much of a long list fan.

I am using FL Studio ASIO Driver which works with Cakewalk with no problem but it would be great if Cakewalk had own ASIO drivers.

True. Yes, it works great in Cakewalk.

I delete every Asio Driver that is not that of my interface, from all my devices.

This give me access to a fluent workflow with less dropouts and problems. Especially when you travelling to go work in a different studio and you're required to work on a different DAW

One such scene played out a few weeks back, when producer at a major label worldwide, recently told me that, if Cakewalk becomes more stabled - he believes it will take over studios every where!

  10. Sitting on the balcony right now playing around with a project using the virtual keyboard, I've noticed some latency (obviously, cause i'm not hooked up downstairs in studio.)

Just a wild idea that popped up.

Wouldn't it be great for cakewalk to create their own Asio Drivers?

This will help those that can't afford gear greatly, not so? Also, it will make working mobile, less of a fuss.

What I mean by this is: Seeing that I refuse to go sit in my home studio now, or to even download Asio4All, WASAPI drivers are not much helpful. One just allows mulitple communication between hardware and software/online streaming platforms / and the other one not. Though it does lower the latency issue, but not by much - not a big issue.

Not sure if this is actually meant for the FEEDBACK category. ?

I am curious to see if I have this issue. How long do you need to wait until CbB loses focus? I just tried 10 minutes and evidently not long enough.

Give or take 30 mins after it goes into sleep mode. After 30mins your computer deletes a temp file that keeps the memory, but this should keep the DAW in focus though.

This isn't a biggie, but I'm curious. I leave my computer on most of the time. I'll simply save and get up and walk away from my CW project come bedtime. When I come back to it next time, CW is NEVER the application with focus. I always mistakenly sit down, don the headphones, and hit the Spacebar, only then realizing I have to focus CW before I can do that. What's really weird is that in the Windows toolbar, CW shows as the currently active application. I'm just wondering if anyone knows why this is. Why does Windows think CW has focus, but CW does not?

? This is so true. In fact I never thought to even question this - now that I'm thinking about it. Yes, I always have to bring it to focus after my system gone in to sleep mode. With my other daw, as soon as I press that spacebar - it plays music.

i put the side chain compressor (or expander) directly on the target track (e.g. bass) and then use a pre-fader send from the source track (e.g. kick) to the target track compressor. no additional aux tracks or busses needed. doing this i can add several pre-fader sends to other tracks (e.g. rhythmically triggering compressor or other effects on pad tracks).

Yeah. It's what I do at the moment. Everyday I find that it doesn't work that well with certain POP or Hip Hop tracks. With EDM - AUX or a BUS works better.

If I'm starting a brand new project, I start from scratch. most of the time I'm revising older projects, which are already set up in sonar. i just open them in Cakewalk. I've even opened pre-Sonar projects, as well as importing from other DAWS. So it's rare lately that I'm starting from scratch.

That's what I was referring to as "Empty" ( a.k.a BLANK) template. I only use custom "Blank" templates. Meaning: If I make any small changes to my workstations OR the template itself - I "replace" the existing one.

I would like to turn off the SMART Tool cursor feature so when I first open an existing project, or create a new project, the default mouse cursor selection is the Select "I" cursor bar.  Is there a way to turn-off or disable the SMART Tool cursor feature?

Save it as your default template. That's how mine was saved (by accident.) I got so used to shortcuts over the years, that changing tools anywhere in the workflow became muscle memory.

That "T" Shortcut is golden OR you can use F5 - F6 - F7 - F8  depending what's comfortable for you. I don't think you can turn it off other than deselecting it, BUT - If you want to turn off the "AIM ASSISTANT" just press the letter "X"

The main issue, is I do set the audio like that, and found good levels, but it just stops. like I can set it to 14%, and it will work...but then it just goes back to 100 out of nowhere. Seems totally random.

Good to hear about the mic though, wasn't looking forward to spending several hundred dollars.

    Thanks for the response

Then this is something to do with windows - a setting that does not save properly. If you want a better decent microphone, checkout the Samson C01U (USB) studio Microphone. It's like $89.00

    Hello!

I'll make this quick, I'm a classically trained singer but I'm new to doing my own recordings. I've been trying for months to just figure things out on my own, but I'm hitting a few walls and not sure where to ask or what to do.

Firstly, I have a pretty cheap $100 podcast mic. I'm starting to realize this thing may not be up to the task. What I do is turn the input down to around 5 because the mic peaks like crazy at normal levels (not sure if Peak is the correct term, the soundwave gets massive and it crackles like crazy, ruining takes). This seems to work for most simple verses and when I'm not singing big, BUT, it just constantly and randomly forgets.

So I'll sing a line, and it will be at a super low input, so nothing gets too loud while recording...then I'll hit record again, and all of the sudden the input is back full blast. I can't seem to figure this out, and it's driving me crazy. My mic input just doesnt seem to stay there. Any ideas? This happens with both the windowed version of cakewalk, and the full DAW version.

The other question I have, the mic will peak even when its input does work at 5, so on screen the sound looks much smaller, but it still seems to peak and crackle, as if the smaller scale can't handle big singing. Is this my mic? I hope that makes sense?

I've tried standing closer and further away from the mic, but it will still peak even if I'm so far away that you can tell I'm audibly far away from the mic

Anyway, I'm totally new to doing this on my own, and have so many questions but I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask. I greatly appreciate any responses or ideas. I'm not too computer literate and I'm not recording literate at all.

    Thanks for any help

Podcast mics are usually decent microphones.

Assuming you don't have an interface, go into your Windows Settings and turn the levels down to 14% (This setting is usually for USB mics) I'm not entirely sure how it works with those 3.5mm input jacks.

Experiment with the levels until you find that level that works for you.
