  1. if i spent more time with the envelopes that control aspects it would be much better. there are still some things i'd like to see - the addition of "growl" into the vocals. the parameters for them often have various options for intensity, but still not a definitive "roughness" that would be handy. also even the English libraries (mainly what i'm using) still require some phonomes tweaking or even wholly different words to get it right (for example, "melancholy" required me to use "melon collie" to get it close... 🙂
  2. yes. i'm getting them to "sing" better and better each time. mostly because instead of "micro managing", i let them do their thing and only tweak on parts that need it (phonomes etc) and then use the AI takes (emotive, dynamics, pitch) to see if there are better "performances". so using this process: note length, timing, and approximate pitches, next melody assignment, some tweaking of timing and other bits, and finally any takes to see if there are improvements to be had. not much (imho) of training a singer to take on a new song they have not heard before and no reference track per se. so it's kind of cool, and of course those voices are way better than mine...
  3. true but then you need to get the Edge and A/V updates every other day... not really but it seems like it. plus the latest 22H2 just came out about a week or so ago (at least when i applied it).
  4. same experience. once i re-ran all the paid plugin installers, copied over the free ones without installers, and my templates, attached my project & content drives. almost no issues (those were mainly due to updates on the OS and Edge which were solved by installing the CW redistributables)
  5. the MS Edge and Defender products update fairly frequently as do runtimes due to bugs and other software installations. so after i see Edge open with "look at the new AI features we installed to better track you with" information page, the next thing i do is run the CW redistributables installer. 🙂 also after a version update on the OS. sometimes after software updates on Sketchup. also, depending on if you used hard or soft directory junctions - if you used soft version of the syntax, they disappear after a reboot...
  6. yeah some songs i pad using an B3/C3 organ VI, some i use the strings. one problem i'm trying to solve - a good cello VI which isn't loaded with the bow scraping etc. yes, a realistic cello with proper set of articulations, but most of them i've demo'd have very loud scraping, whereas when a friend plays her cello (and maybe it's her skills as a trained first chair) the bow sounds are much much less a part of the sound - maybe it's simply the way they capture the sound or enhanced to make it more "real". but that is one pursuit i'm working on...
  7. this is why i only exclude the VST2 in CW when i have the VST3 (i can't remember who else said to do that? 😉) but always install the all the 64-bit versions - even aax versions (in case i need them in PT) - then if the VST3 is merely a wrapper (without proper memory management that allows it to degrade nicely when it's corresponding VST2 is missing thus tearing holes in protected memory), at least the file is there even if CW has it on its exclude list...
  8. yes, but can you get away from the notifications that you've been quoted on those hidden threads, or perhaps even liked? 😉
  9. ha! and here i was thinking my 42" landscape main and 24" portrait side was going to be too large for my desk!
  10. i'm looking to update my monitoring to 1x large landspace and 1x smaller but vertical - which i'm thinking will be my kontakt, synth/browser, and other vertical areas, lyrics, sheet music etc, and the landscape all my other stuff.
  11. sounds consistent with my experience as well. however, in W11, i'm using almost VST3 exclusively and maybe it's the CPU etc but even with stuff that didn't run reliably on W10 on an older machine, the usage meters barely move with either VST2 or 3... that said some products (i've found the Cherry Audio VST3 to consume more resources, not an issue on the new machine, and the Waves Abbey Road Chambers, unusable on W10 & older laptop, now, virtually no resources appear to be consumed on W11 and new machine). so most times, my latency is done to 64-128 samples for recording, sometimes 256, and some old 32-bit ones need 512. mix is still always 2048...
  12. doesn't matter. with AI, all you song belong us now.
  13. actually - there are no gates or even much compression - a bit on the 2-track. it's because of the arrangement kinds of forming a "wave" rolling action - partly because i had too much bass (i was mixing on my cube) and it made the effect very pronounced. but otherwise no compression or effects on individual instruments (only 5). some EQ on a couple of them, some delay and reverb (ambience).

  15. i have custom workspaces which enable me to rapidly shift across overall settings (e.g. don't need a bunch of control bar stuff if mixing, vs recording) and depending on what i'm doing, then using the keystrokes (e.g. B, I) if i need to quickly view or hide something. the custom ones also prevent updates from overriding the changes i might have made in the "stock" workspaces...
  16. a template has the extension ".cwt" - and if you want to embed an image in the notes section, simply rename the file to "mytemplate.cwt" otherwise, saving as a "template" type loses that for some reason. also, i put my templates into the "core/project templates" and "common/project templates" folders just to be sure.
  17. yeah, next mix i'm redoing them a bit because they are a bit harsh in places. but some piercing is necessary 🙂
  18. maybe align the CW and PC audio drivers, bit rate, etc. use the UMC22 for all (as a start).
  19. meaning "separate instruments / vocals from a two-track source"? or "export a project as stems"? if the latter, grouping instruments into using busses and then exporting those busses is a quick and easy way to export stems. or using aux tracks to do the same. my own mix template has exports preset for two-track WAV and MP3, and stem buss exports built-in so a quick recall settings, tweak selections, update task and run. 30 seconds to get stems of a mix exported.
  20. another way is to use the device manager and disable it. window+X -> device manager -- this way the drivers cannot reinstall since they're not uninstalled, simply disabled.
  21. 'crunch' 'crunch' <popcorn eating sounds> 'crunch' eagerly awaiting the penile shot to see which one is bigger 'crunch' 'crunch' <more popcorn eating sounds> 🙂
  22. final 4th round mix. updated some instruments (drums and solo), lyrics and vocals. ----------------------------------------- Lyrics ----------------------------------------- was i reticent was i hesitant not at all was i innocent were there elephants not so sure was i melancholy wasn't satisfied not at all when the music played we would dance to a separate song wasn't reticent didn't hesitate maybe innocent 'cause those elephants hide in sight never was right thus cause grief when all is belief to be real now you cryin' 'cause you lyin' now you know the feel is real was i reticent was i hesitant not at all was i innocent were there elephants not so sure was i melancholy wasn't satisfied not at all then the music stopped we would cry go our separate ways was i innocent were there elephants not so sure then the music stopped we would cry go our separate ways
  23. you can find your product code (if you used one) - either through the system settings or check - there are some simple scripts to dump it in a command window. or link it to your MS account (i have a live.com account which carries the license so if i reinstall the OS is just activate it online). i think the W10 "only nag" passed long ago and it now will disable certain features unless activated.
  24. my laptop came with W11 home and it seems to run all my software ok. when installing an upgraded OS like home to pro or W10 to W11 - i recommended clean install followed by re-install all software etc, PITA but much more reliable that way.
  25. look under the audio devices. if the device has its own ASIO, then you will need to use that exclusively for the IO as ASIO is a single type only. whereas if you can use the WASAPI Shared mode, then you'll have more options for input vs output.
