  1. I don't know how forum software works but is there not a way of imposing a "probationary" period on new accounts during which time they can only make a limited number of posts?

Wouldn't solve the problem but might reduce it somewhat.

I've been looking at the Streamdeck... looks really nice. What kinda stuff do you do with the shortcuts, transport?

You can get really deep with MIDI controls but I just use it for shortcuts.

I have buttons to open Cakewalk, Open projects, Open the last project, Switch views, Transpose, Resize windows etc.

Just mundane stuff that only saves me a split second here and there but those savings soon add up.

  3. Its working fine here on a similar spec PC to yours. Don't know what to suggest. I start every new project using a template with SD3 instantiated.

Don't know if it makes a difference but I never use "Instrument" tracks, I just have a MIDI track and 3 mono, 2 stereo audio tracks already setup with eq, compression set at default levels with outputs to my drum busses.

I'm not finding much info about the  Klark Teknik DN32-LIVE card with the Midas M32r,

I have one in my X32 rack and it works fine.

What have you got the audio sync on the M32 set to? It should be set to card if you're connecting through the DN32-LIVE.

  5. I've had a ZEDi 10FX for a couple of years now and had no luck whatsoever using as an interface with Win 10 but it works fine with Win 7.

Never been able to figure out why.

I eventually got a Signature 12MTK and it worked fine straight out of the box.

  6. Unfortunately in these strange times you might have to settle for whatever you can get without paying way over the odds to scalpers and price gougers.

My advice would be to wait, if possible, until the market returns to something more like normality.

  7. I may well be wrong but I interpret the new scheme as addressing the concerns that we could open up Cakewalk where we have no internet and it's due it's 6 monthly re-authorisation so we can't use it until we connect to the internet?

It looks like it will now be a rolling "opportunistic" authorisation whereby if there's a connection it refreshes and if not it keeps working awaiting a new opportunity?

I know we live in a cynical world but we really should give the bakers the benefit of the doubt.

As to Sound on Sound, they stopped running my column because they had done a reader survey, which showed Cakewalk users were a small percentage of their readership.  Magazine space is a finite resource, so Cakewalk was dropped.

One of the first things I always read when I had my SOS subscription.

  9. Some years ago when I bought a Korg Kronos I queried the lack of ASIO drivers for the built in audio interface and was told by a Korg representative that I didn't need ASIO drivers, just use a Mac.

When I replied that I'm happy using Windows they told me that if I was a serious musician I would be using Apple.

Needless to say I dumped the POS Kronos and will never buy another Korg product again!

@Jeff Bowman  What were the specs/model numbers for the video cards in your case?

All low end stuff GPU wise, I don't do any gaming, so started with a  GT710 then a GT1030 then a GT(X?)1050. All no joy.

I ended up with an RX550, equally low end, but it's usable now.

There are still some ponderables though. VU meters on Waves NLS are a bit sluggish, opening a plugin GUI whilst playback is going causes some "zipper noise".

Those are tolerable though. Before the swap I couldn't touch the mouse without pops, clicks and crackles plus recording was hit and miss, sometimes OK, sometimes sounded like someone frying bacon in the background and sometimes just the odd pop or click.

Curiously though turning off one of my displays or reducing the resolution on both of them seemed to improve things. Also having no meters showing in Cakewalk seemed to help.

Definitely seems to be something funky in the graphics engine?

  11. Don't know how relevant this is but, having used Cakewalk as my DAW since 1995, I recently built a new PC and for the first time in decades installed an Nvidia GPU.

I then spent a year battling to get rid of pops, crackles, dropouts and crashes. Watched every video, read every article and tried every setting.

The only thing that solved the problem was replacing the GPU with an AMD.
