  1. I do not know if this is recent behavior or not, but this morning I noticed that 10 newly-inserted audio tracks in a project are having their Output set to the project's Guitar Lead bus, rather than to the expected setting to the Master bus. (This project has multiple buses - keyboards, strings, guitars, drums, etc.)

I grabbed a screen shot to show one of the tracks this happened to, the Keyboard Stem, and I have the first few buses shown as well.  I thought perhaps it picked the Guitar Lead bus because it was the 1st bus I had added to the project, but it turns out that the Guitar Lead bus is the 2nd bus I had added to the project, so I have no guess as to what might trigger the unexpected Output setting.  (The 1st bus I had inserted into the project was the Guitar bus, not the Guitar Lead bus.)

I easily corrected the Output settings, for the 10 tracks I had inserted.  I am just pointing out the behavior, so folks can correct the settings, if needed on their projects.

  2. UPDATE on my Arturia Modular V2 VST2 plugin crashing Cakewalk.

It turned out to be related to licensing, and is resolved.

I had created a Cakewalk project several years back, on a different PC, that had Arturia V Collection 3 installed, which included the Modular V2 VST2 plugin.  Since everything was properly licensed and activated, Modular V2 worked just fine on that PC.

That PC later died - the motherboard went belly up.  When I ported everything over to my laptop, that included a bunch of VSTi plugins, which included Modular V2.  What I didn't realize at the time (3:30 AM), was that I had to activate Arturia V Collection 3 on the laptop, to have that Modular V license properly ready for use.

It was only because I had opened up the old Cakewalk project from the now dead PC, that Modular V2 was loaded, and because it was not activated on the laptop, when I attempted to open the Modular V2 UI in the Cakewalk project, it purposefully killed itself with an Access Violation, which then crashed Cakewalk.

I have subsequently Activated Arturia V Collection 3 on the laptop, and reinstalled Modular V V2 from the V Collection 3, and it now happily works, in stand-alone mode and as a VSTi plugin in Cakewalk projects.

A SUGGESTION:  The above experience DID cause me to realize something that could be useful to anybody.  One of the things I tried to do was to open up the Modular V V2 plugin to see what preset I had loaded into it when it was working.  There is currently no way to determine that, if the plugin can not be opened for whatever reason.  SOOOOOO - moving forward - I will dilegently maintain a list in a text or Word document, of each preset loaded into each plugin, for each project, so that if at some point a plugin breaks and no longer can be opened, at least I will know what preset had been loaded when that plugin was working, which may help me aproximate the sound using a newer version of the same plugin, or give me some clue if I have to recreate that sound from some other preset or from scratch.

  3. I am experiencing Cakewalk crashes any time I open the Arturia Modular V2 synth UI. It appears to be an access violation, and occurs when inserting into both existing projects where it used to work, and it crashes if inserted and its UI is opened in a new project. Modular V2 is a VST2 plugin. Its V3 version is a VST3 and opens. I have an existing project with the V2 VST2 version, that I need to see what preset is loaded, so I can swap in the V3 version which works.

    A frustrated sad Bob Bone.

  4. Sorry for not responding earlier.  I have been in a lot of pain from weather changing back and forth, which makes multiple herniated discs angry at me.

I have gotten the computer back up.  The power supply was the culprit.  I also used SFC (system File Checker) and DISM to repair some Windows file corruption.  In more than 200 computer builds I have never had a power supply do this, let alone a brand new one.

    Weirdness never sleeps, I guess.

Thanks to all who jumped in to help. :)

  5. OK - I recently built a new monster desktop PC, and after nearly three very busy weeks I got all my software installed (over 1,200 plugins) plus 6TB of sample libraries downloaded and installed as well as another 4TB of user files and such.

Two days ago, my brand spanking new power supply instantly shut off, which instantly shut off the computer, RIGHT in the middle of my updating the NVIDIA video drivers.

Ever since that happened, I get ZERO video signal and therefore can not see anything on the screen.

Despite my 38 years of mainframe programming, I am not sure of how to fix the issue.

I have downloaded the Microsoft MediaCreation Tool for Windows 11, on my laptop, and can create a bootable USB drive with Windows using the tool, but I am not sure whether or not booting up the desktop using the bootable USB drive will give me the option of essentially a reinstall of Windows 11 where it will not only preserve my user account and files, but will also preserve all of the installed software.

I really do not want to have to reinstall some 1,200 plugins and all of my sample libraries and such.

Any guidance?  I SURELY would appreciate someone laying out the steps to do this correctly.

UPDATE RESOLVED. It was a defective brand new power supply. :)

  6. Hey guys - I am trying to help a friend of mine navigate the DistroKid process. He has an account, and is ready to upload his music. When we go to the Upload Music page, there are a number of Services listed, all of which are pre-checked (Spotify, Amazon, Pandora, etc...). My hunch is that for Distrokid to send all of these Services his uploaded songs and ISRC codes, that my friend would need to have previously set up accounts for each of the services he wants DistroKid to send his music to. We tried looking through the DistroKid FAQ's and came up empty on this.

Can someone please explain this a little, so we do the Upload Music process properly? For example, my friend has a Spotify free account, to listen to music. Does he need to do anything different on Spotify for DistroKid to properly send his personal music to Spotify? Same question for the other Services - does my friend need to set up a business/vendor type of account for Amazon, of any of the other Services? THANKS!

various investment groups have bought out various pro audio software companies , for a number of reasons including access to their source code + IP etc.

some companies sadly are buying up pro audio companies for asset stripping, that's how it comes across.

sadly because of how the original cakewalk / propellerheads / camel audio / emagic aren't the same companies or have done things i find *OFF* .e.g. making a pc product mac only .. or offering "life time membership" as the ship was sinking .. i lost trust in many companies

    it's a big subject.

but i'll go back to the original days of the akai sampler.. s900 etc was designed by people who knew music as well as electronics.. the later and "not so good" samplers were buggy and not as good , done by programmers who obviously wasn't so clued up about the music side

For whatever the worth, the Sonar Lifetime Updates fiasco was done by Gibson, making a money grab, and was not initiated by the actual Sonar development staff.  I will never for the rest of my life pay a single penny to Gibson, because of what they did with that money grab and then shutting down Sonar altogether.  I am SOOOOO happy that Cakewalk by Bandlab emerged through it all, with development and support with the same staff from Cakewalk being hired by Meng who owns Bandlab.  There is not a day that goes by where I don't silently thank Meng and Noel and the other folks who have continued to bust hump to keep Cakewalk by Bandlab alive, with Meng footing the bill to hire the Sonar development staff out of his own pocket.  That was simply amazing. :)

  8. Howdy.  Has anyone run into this and solved it?

I have Sonar Platinum installed to grant me access in CbB to the various plugins that came with Sonar Platinum, and I also purchased several effects for use in Sonar.

I have the LP EQ and LP MB installed, through Command Center, but when I insert either/both of them into an FX Bin and open them, they both say they are running in Demo Mode.

    Any thoughts?  Fixes?

    Thanks,

    Bob Bone

  9. This was in an email from them.  They also are offering 6 or free plugins for those who sign up for an account with them.  I have had an account for years with them, and have bought multiple plugins from them.

This is their main web page: plugin-alliance

This is what was in the email I got:

    "Dear PA friends,

You may have noticed our friends at Native Instruments showing up more and more across Plugin Alliance recently. Well, we have some exciting news: we’re making it official and bringing Plugin Alliance, Brainworx, and iZotope together under Native Instruments.

  10. I own the following synth collections, and need to recreate the glissando synth sound used right before each chorus in the Manfred Mann cover of Blinded by the Light - I have to have it ready to play by next Saturday, and would REALLY appreciate any help/guidance with this:

Komplete 12 Ultimate, plus a number of additional 3rd-party Kontakt libraries.

    Arturia V Collection 9

    SampleTank 3 and 4

Korg M1 and Wavestation emulations with all expansion packs/cards.  (The M1 expansions include the complete factory and expansion sets of sounds from the T1 as well)

Thanks to any who can give me some guidance on this.

Doesn't work for the situation I outlined.  Cakewalk happily plays beyond the marker.

I always insert markers for the beginning and end of my projects.  I then  set my Start and end points to those markers. I then never have issues with rendering/exports.

G’day Robert, long time no speak.

I know with various pedals that use a 1/4” TS (2 wire) plug that polarity is not uniform across all of them. Could that be an issue.

I remember XLR plugs also present with 2 of 3 pins wired differently than what is today considered correct. Could it be that simple?

Howdy, Michael.  I have a friend that lives fairly close, who is looking to see if he has any TRS 1/4" cables, and if he has one or more, I will try them out, to see if that fixes the issue. I will read the A-800 Pro manual later this afternoon, to see if anything applies to the issue.

Take care, I will post the results of any testing I do, but it may be a day or two......

  13. Howdy.  I have a Roland A-800 Pro, which has a quarter-inch port for an expression pedal.

I also have a Behringer FC600 volume/expression pedal, that I would like to be able to use to control MIDI data, such as volume, for a soft synth that is triggered by the A-800 Pro MIDI controller.

I cannot seem to get this to work, even though I am using a stereo (TRS) cable to connect the Behringer pedal to the expression pedal port of the Roland MIDI controller, which is per the scant documentation for the Behringer pedal.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Well, maybe the only living person on the planet who didn't know -

If you press Ctrl & Scroll the mouse at the same time you can move back and forth in Track view, Piano roll view or Staff view.

    Handy for short moves.

I am about to head out the door, for the next 5 hours, so did not have time, at the moment, to find the link,  but there is a document that lists all of the various key bindings in Cakewalk, and I used to have it printed out and handy. There are LOTS  of key bindings out there, and you can create them. I set the left and right arrows to advance to the previous or next Marker, which is extremely handy, for moving around in my projects.

Hope that helps, got to jet,

  15. UPDATE - here is the details on the resolution:

I found the following, from a thread from a couple years ago, in two posts in the thread, from Scook.  Altering the Output Ports to the correct Kontakt instance, from what CbB had changed to Microsoft Wavetable, and saving the drum map, worked like a charm.

I also recreated both the Project Template with the Track Template, from the corrected drum map, and now those both work just fine now, as well.

If I know a new project will have drums, chances are I will be using a project template that has everything already set up with all the audio tracks, Kontakt instance, or AD2, all the buses, and each audio track properly gain staged to -18 dBfs, so whether the drum sounds are coming from AD2 or Kontakt, that instance will always be the very first synth in the synth rack, so it should then never get its drum map Output Port data changed, because all additional synths will be loaded below that first AD2 or Kontakt instance.

SO, I think I am all good now, although it is 2:48 in the wee hours, so no guarantee that I am not dreaming all of this.

Here is the info from the old thread, with Scook's posted replies to similar drum map Output Port issues:

"The Out Port assignments of a drum map are set using the existing output routing for the MIDI track. If there is no routing, the DAW makes the assignment, if possible, to insure the data does somewhere. The same thing happens if a routing becomes invalid (ex. the synth in the Out Port assignments is deleted).

Fortunately, should the assignment need changing, it can be done with a few keystrokes

SHIFT+select the range of mappings to change
CTRL+SHIFT+click the drop down to reassign the selected ports
Or, after adding the new synth

    delete the old drum map,
make sure the track is routed to the new synth then
    add a new drum map.

It does not matter if adding a track template or adding the drum map to an existing project or project template. The Out Port assignments are all made following the same rule.

Out Ports in a drum map are dynamically assigned to the track based on the MIDI output it is replacing.

If there is no prior MIDI output assignment or the Out Port assignments become invalid, the DAW adjusts them so that the data has somewhere to go.

IOW, the design requires a valid Out Port assignment, if possible, in drum maps used by a project.

This is similar to the dynamic assignment of Omni when input echo is enabled on tracks that have no input assignment."

As a side note, if you happen to save your track setup as a track preset with a drum map to go with it, that drum map is not loaded when you load your track preset. It just adds a new empty DM entry that you have to reload your preset.

Can you (or someone) please explain this?  I don't quite understand.

    Thanks, Bob Bone

  17. UPDATE - Resolved, by correcting the Output Port data - from Microsoft Wavetable, to the proper instance of Kontakt, then saving the corrected drum map.

I discovered that CbB Drum Map Manager had changed all Output Port assignments from the specified Kontakt instance, to the Microsoft Wavetable.  I have zero ideas why, at the moment.

I updated those assignments back to the Kontakt instance, and resaved the drum map, and all is well.  I will try to dig into this some more, and open a support ticket, when time permits.

Howdy - I have been a user of NI Komplete, and Kontakt, for many many years, and am suddenly experiencing a perplexing issue, with a 1 second lag in hearing audio from triggering notes on any of my MIDI controllers, using the Studio Drummer library, in a separate Kontakt instance, where I have a single one of the Studio Drummer factory instruments loaded into the Kontakt instance.

    1) This project has 3 Kontakt instances, with one instance for a New York Grand Piano instrument, the 2nd instance having a Kontakt Factory Library string ensemble instrument, and the 3rd Kontakt instance having a single Studio Drummer Library instrument loaded into this Kontakt instance.

    2) I have no detectable lag when using my MIDI controllers to trigger notes for either the 1st or 2nd Kontakt instances, and if I use the 3rd Kontakt instance's virtual keyboard to trigger any of the Studio Drummer kit pieces, using my mouse, there is also no detectable lag.   It is only this 3rd Kontakt instance, with the Studio Drummer instrument, that I get a lag of around 1 second, when I use either of my two MIDI controllers to trigger drum kit pieces for the 3rd Kontakt instance.  This makes ZERO sense, as to what could be causing this issue.

    3) My computer specs are:

         Dell Alienware 17 R5 laptop

         16GB of memory

          Two 2TB M.2 NVME hard drives, and a 3rd hard drive that is a 2TB solid-state drive.

           Intel i7 CPU

    4)  My ASIO Buffer Size is set to 128 samples, for my audio interface, which happens to be my Behringer XR-18 digital mixer, using a USB connection to the laptop.

    5) The Studio Drummer Library resides on one of the NVME hard drives, which is where all of my sample libraries are stored.  This NVME drive has no other files/folders on it, other than sample libraries from Native Instruments Komplete 12 Ultimate.

    6)  I am using a drum map for this Studio Drummer instrument, in a Track Template I have used for around 4 years now, with no prior issues.  The instrument is routing each kit piece to its own audio track(s), with most of the tracks being mono, and the snare (stereo - top mono and bottom mono), and prior to yesterday, everything has worked with no issues, including no problems with lag.

I have done some searching, using Google and in this forum, for anyone else having this kind of issue, with no seccess in finding this issue reported anywhere.

I am all ears for any suggestions as to what I can do to resolve this issue.  I will be continuing to dig into it, to try to figure it out, and if I come up with anything to fix this, I will update this thread, to avoid anyone needlessly investing time into helping on a problem that is resolved.  In about 2 cups of coffee, I will try running the stand-alone version of Kontakt, outside of CbB, to see if the issue exists within Kontakt itself.  I will also try starting a new CbB project, with only one Kontakt instance, with the Studio Drummer instrument loaded, starting with only 1 stereo audio track, and of course a MIDI track, so as not to use a drum map, and to be as plain a project as possible, so as to just test triggering notes from my MIDI controllers.  If that is successful in resolving the lag, I will then try starting a new project with only the tracks and single Kontakt instance of the Studio Drummer instrument - using the Project Template I had built with the drum map and the separate audio outputs and multiple audio tracks - but nothing else in the project, and again test triggering notes from my MIDI controllers.  I will also test the above using a VST3 Kontakt instance, and again with a VST2 instance, in case that has anything to do with the issues.

A very sad Bob Bone - who is trying to record a brand new song. :)

  18. What is your ASIO Buffer Size set to, when this is happening?

Additionally, does your project playback without glitches, if you temporarily Bypass Effects, by clicking on the FX button on the right side of the Transport module (where the Now Time Marker is displayed, as well as where the playback controls are shown).  Once you test this, you can click on the FX button again, to re-engage all of your effects.

  19. EVERYBODY, please take a chill pill.  If folks can just let any perceived slight or insult go, and move on, we can all get back to trying to help each other.

Besides being a musician, and a moderator/host, I used to play basketball, and had a blast playing in 15 different countries.  I mention that because that experience exposed my to all kinds of different cultures and languages.  Every country I visited had unique phrases, and ways of speaking, and them trying to communicate with me in English, or my trying to talk with a referee who didn't speak English, in such a way that I didn't get thrown out of a game, happened with enough regularity that I  felt humbled quite frequently.

From what I have read in this thread, someone who is not a native English speaker happened to word a post in a manner perceived as insulting, kicking off the comments resulting in a warning, and some ongoing feelings of being slighted.

The non-English speaking member has repeatedly indicated that he had no intent to say anything insulting.

That needs to be the end of the back and forth in this matter.  There was no intent to ruffle anybody's feathers, and that poster has repeatedly apologized for not having a better grasp of phrasing things in English.

Let's please let this all go, and please accept the aplogies, and move on.

    Bob Bone :)
