  1. Oddly enough, I had included a vocal response line at the end of one verse: 'California Dreamin' all the way' but I took it out just before final mixdown! ๐Ÿคจ
  2. I can't find a specific place to report a small bug. Do I just post it here and the devs will pick it up?

    Summer Daze

My nostalgic look back to the summer of 1967.
  4. A big breakthrough for me in combatting crackling (I can't recall the thread that enlightened me, sorry) was when I understood that when I have SampleTank3 or 4 running, and say twelve instruments loaded across twelve MIDI tracks and channels, the load on my PC is far less if I load a lot more instances of SampleTank, in this case I would load three, each instance loaded with four instruments, or even four with three instruments each. It still seems daft to me and kind of counter-intuitive, but I guess it's a 'feature' ๐Ÿ˜ก of ST. Other samplers may exhibit the same behaviour, I don't know. Oh, yes, and like Bob Bone said earlier, I have to keep toggling between 64 or 128 samples for tracking, and 1024 or even 2048 for mixing down, etc. Another 'feature' that we non-technical folk understand but find clunky in this day and age. Knowing the technical origins, ins and outs of these things doesn't make them acceptable, sorry! I did once suggest CW had a quick toggle button, e.g. that could be put in the custom command module of the control bar) that users could set the sample parameters for, e.g. 128/1024, but it got short shrift, so I continue to open Prefs, Driver Settings, etc., etc. every time I want to make the change. ๐Ÿ˜’
  5. I probably have the wrong end of the stick here, but do I understand that the pending Cakewalk update means my Melodyne Studio 4 won't then work and I have to shell out ยฃ135 to buy the Melodyne 5 upgrade?
  6. MSoft are certainly having problems with it. A few weeks ago it disappeared as an offering from my 'Windows Update' information. A couple of days ago it reappeared as available so I held my breath and gave it a go on my studio PC. All worked ok, although I haven't done recording for a while so I don't know if it has messed anything up Cakewalk-wise. Time will tell. (So far I haven't seen a single features change that could possibly be of remote interest to me. ) I did get one pop up at the very end about communication with my printers being a possible threat (?) and it asked did I want the PC to communicate with them - so I clicked yes of course. I replaced my studio PC nine months ago, so maybe that's why the update went ok. On my HP laptop, about seven years old, it got all the way and hung at 94% of installation, so I turned it off and on again and it reverted to 1909. Oddly, I updated a very old clunky Toshiba laptop and it was happy to update that although it took about ten hours. Like a lot of people, I Googled the installation hanging problem and there are 'solutions' online, but they are all horrendously complex and I'm not head of a company IT department or have a degree in programming, so I left it. MSoft must be aware that there are millions of computers not going up to 2004, and therefore not going up to whatever comes after that as things get more and more tangled up. They need to better communicate about this and sort it out.
  7. I've had them for a long time, they're high quality in functionality and looks, but I hardly ever use them. Reason: out of all my plugins they impose the heaviest CPU load and it becomes a pain adjusting the project environment to cater for this.
  8. When I want to change my Hammerfall Aio interface's sample rate, say from 128 to 1024 in order to do a mixdown, or the reverse for tracking, I have to open Preferences and press a few keys to do this. Could a button be made available in the control bar, say, that would enable the user to toggle with one click between 'tracking' and 'mixing'? To cater for different user needs and interfaces the button's two states would need to be user configurable.
  9. After that last one they deserve a breather!
  10. Same here, no joy. I tried to install it first on my HP Envy laptop which has absolutely nothing strange on it - just MS Office. The install stalled for ever on 86% so I cold booted and it rolled back to 1903. Tried again a couple of days later, a tantalising 97% then stalled again. I got no error messages during all this waste of time. I can't be bothered with it any more. I won't be attempting to install it on my studio PC until I feel confident it will work. We can't be the only ones with this problems; is Microsoft saying or doing anything?? If not, millions will not only never be able to move on from 1909 but will never be able to move on to anything ever.
  11. https://www.celemony.com/en/melodyne/new-in-melodyne-5 ยฃ133 to upgrade Studio seems a bit pricey to me, having looked through the new features. I'll hold off for now.
  12. Thanks. I'm going to fire up my old PC that I replaced last year and rummage on it to find the earlier downloads. EDIT: Ah! Surprisingly all previous versions are still downloadable from 'My Products'. I deleted the version I'd got installed and can confirm that 1.0.3 does indeed run better in terms of CPU load.
  13. It begs the question in my mind, why did/does IK (not a slouch in their market arena) go to all the trouble of devising and programming sophisticated software products that they want to sell a lot of in what seems a slipshod manner? Surely they would have a clue at design stage that it would be a very good thing if the code took account of the PCs buyers are probably using? ๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ™„
  14. A quickie on the Lurssen Mastering Console issue. Here is CW struggling with LMC loaded. The song is not playing at first, then I start play. The project consists of four audio tracks, one MIDI track, plus one mixdown track (solo'd) into which LMC is inserted as an effect. Samples set at 512, thread scheduling model 2. 'Use multiprocessing engine' and 'plugin load balancing' both ticked. My first core (of 14) is being blitzed with many cores lying idle. If I change the LMC GUI to small it reduces the load slightly - the first core doesn't then go occasionally into the red. As a non techie, is it too much to expect that between Cakewalk, IK Multimedia or Steinberg (it's the LMC VST3 version), that applications use all available cores efficiently? Sorry, I made the video below in TinyTake screen capture and it's too big to load up here. How do you make those short (presumably smaller file size) clips I see on threads??? Lurssen Screen Capture
  15. Wow, this was a happy surprise! Many thanks and well done to all involved! My eye was immediately drawn to these:- "Solved multithreading race condition leading to latency when using Aggressive thread scheduling model" "Memory leak when using the Aggressive Thread Scheduling model" "Unexpected latency when using the new thread scheduling model" I wonder if these will help my 14 core PC run CW better, and solve my problem with IK's Lurssen Mastering plugin which hasn't been working in CW for a while now unless I ramp my Aio's sampling rate up to 2048?
  16. Thanks for this. I don't think I've used CAL but will definitely try this. I've been plagued by double MIDI notes before, usually when I've been making a drum track by copying and pasting repetitive parts, fills, etc. and overlaps can sometimes occur by accident. My usual method, if I can't hear obvious doubling, is to painstakingly check.
  17. I've only just bought the entry level Sample Tank 4, and was probably going to download the free Syntronik. But am I seeing here that Syntronik sounds are actually comprised of sounds I already have in ST4, so I don't really need it?
  18. Since the update I have had a major issue with IK's Lurssen Mastering Console. It always ran fine before at 1048 samples. Now it will barely run at 2048 samples, and even then dropouts occur. The project is tiny - 5 MIDI tracks (using SampleTank3), 3 audio tracks, plus a mixdown audio track into which LMC is inserted. I've used thread scheduling model 2 since it was introduced. I've tried switching to 1 and 3 and that makes things much worse. I used to use this plugin quite a lot but now it's become virtually unusable. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ As an experiment, and as it 's a small project , I took the tracks over into Studio One, mixed down to a track and inserted Lurssen and it was fine at 1024, and even 512. Has anyone else struggled with the Lurseen Mastering Console in CW? I've been having odd moments when it seems to me CW is struggling with the whole latency issue and I can't help noticing the number of threads that pop up on this. I'm very reluctantly coming around to the view that CW's performance in this area is not as good as other DAWs and the above straight forward example lends weight to this in my mind.
  19. Many thanks! I'd never viewed that page before! ๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ™„
  20. I'm having trouble with IK's Lurssen Mastering Console which, since the latest CW update, won't operate unless I change my sample rate to at least 2048. It's the VST3 version so I decided to install the VST2 version and see if that would play nicely with CW. Installing the VST2 version went fine, and the LMC is now listed in the plugin utility as available in both the VST2 and VST3 effects lists. But, when I go to add it to a track, only the VST3 version is showing in the FX browser on the right or in the tracks FX box lists, the VST2 version is nowhere to be seen. I don't understand how this can be! Is there something I've failed to do?

  22. I got the impression from somewhere that there are a lot of new Pro Channel presets? Where are they?
