  1. I've been using iZotope Nectar 3 heavily in my songs since it came out and and have had a few nuisance issues with some of the features. Purchased an upgrade to Nectar 4 last week and gave it a test drive this week. Found the changes they made are more substantial than I would have thought.

If you've purchased the upgrade or considering it, Plugin Boutique hosted a live 90 min video with the Product Manager of Nectar 4 at iZotope, and instead of just giving an overview of everything in Nectar 4, he focused on the new enhancements with a deep dive into hpw some of those features work.

If you have both the interest and the time, I found this video to be very helpful in understanding a couple of the new features, especially the "Voices" module, which at first try I felt was useless based on the sound created, but I saw in the video I was using it incorrectly in my test drive. Here's the link which you should be able to rewind to the beginning.

  2. So all said and done, given the JRR deal is a mistake (only for purchasers of MPS5 during the month of August 2023), my best current "deal" (citing iZotope's Loyalty offer) seems to be to upgrade/purchase to the Music Production Suite 6 (I do have the 5.2 version, and don't need the other  Bundle products). I don't use or need the Guitar Rig product, but to buy individual upgrades for Nectar 4 Advanced ($119) and Ozone 11 Advanced ($148) would total $268. The "upgrade" pricing is the same as a straight purchase price for the Loyalty offer,

So id anyone sees a better "legitimate" deal to get Nectar 4 + Ozone11 (both Advanced versions) please post to this thread.

  3. I got the email from Baby Audio this morning with the $59 deal + 10% off if an existing subscriber to Baby Audio emails. Looks like they check if your email address is in their list before giving the 10% discount.

I'm probably not going to be able to really experiment with it for a month or two, but from the intro vid by Huang, I think that I'll have a playtoy to tinker with for a year with this plugin!

  4. I picked up the Audio Assault Double Take plugin and also grabbed the freebie "Fart Machine", but I can't seem to get Fart Machine to work when I use it in Cakewalk. The Double Take plugin works just fine as does an older on from Audio Assault called XCTR.

Does anyone own a copy of Fart Machine? I thought I just needed to place it on a track, open the VST3 window, and press the button... but lo and behold... no Fart is heard.

I added the VST3 to a track that I use to test plugins, so audio goes to Master and track volume at -0-. The power button lights up on the plugin but can't get it to "activate" da fart. Watched two uTube vids on the plugin and reinstalled it, but still can't figure it out. Brain must be losing cells faster than I hoped! Might have to resort to beans or cabbage when I need a good fart sound.

If I’d have to pick three instruments, I’d go for Exhale, Analog Strings, and Analig Brass & Winds. But that’s because I’m into organic and ambient orchestral. Don’t think that Signal or Substance are less interesting. But also look at the total bundle, to which you can upgrade later.

Thanks for the recommendations!!. After reviewing their instrument options and listening to the videos on the Output.com site, the only one that really seems like it would currently work for me is Exhale, which is not (for me) worth paying $199, so I think I'll keep an eye on the NI offers and see if at some point they will offer a super deal on Exhale alone.

  6. Saw the reply from Fleer and stimulated my possible interest.

I've never heard of Output "intrument" products before today  but did some research today on three products of possible interest: Exhale (Vocals); Substance (Bass sounds); and maybe Analog Strings.

Curious if these products are worth consideration or your views on how useful they are if you have tried them. views about these products?  "Exhale" would be my primary interest, but the "deal" has to be for three selected Output products.

Appreciate your input if you're familiar with these products.

  7. I'm in line with most of the comments where the "inner desire" to get a new or steeply discounted plug-in has faded... EXCEPT for vocal plugins.

I see a new vocal plugin and I watch all the videos, check reviews and if there's any hope of somehow improving my vocals just a lil bit, I spring for it. Only to later find that ther are no magic presets that I can just add to my vocals and really sound good.

So... I decided to do something really radical. I stopped buying plug-ins because of ads or enticing videos, and I'm going to actually learn to use each effect I already have and try to completely understand what it does and does not do to enhance my vocals or instrumentals. If I find it doesn't do something better than another plugin I have, it goes off to the archive folder.

Give me a few months of doing this and let's see if I can survive it!

I have non WUP v13 of the Omni. Seems to me that $13.41 to upgrade to V2 through WUP is quite reasonable.

I also did the WUP for Omni1 and had to wait for an email from Waves, which gave me a serieal number for Omni Channel 2!

    >>"Annual" means no expiry / no deactivation after one year,   just no further free updates after the year, right?

Exactly. We were one of the few companies offering this model even in the SONAR days. How it works is you either pay for 12 consecutive monthly subs OR you purchase a one year subscription upfront. In both scenarios the last months version is permanently unlocked for you and you own it.  This is essentially no different than buying an annual version of the software outright. Many people who dislike subscription are unaware that we always did this.

Also, an advantage of monthly subscription was that once you crossed the 12 month boundary you could continue consecutive monthly subs for however long as you want and you would always own the last version you paid for.

All subs are not bad and are actually better for some people who prefer paying in smaller increments. So definitely read the fine print.

Disclaimer: To be clear I'm not saying that this is going to be our model. We're still very much working out the details here. I was quoting how it was done in the SONAR days and saying not all subscription schemes are the same.

That model would be definitely better than how my subscriptions for TV streaming work. If I stop paying the $17/month to Netflix, then I can no longer watch Netflix. Same with other television, Internet subscription content providers, and "use all our plugins for a monthly subscription" like Slate. The key for me would be to keep the monthly fee low, e.g. if the monthly subscription was $15, that would be the same as a $160/annual "upgrade" fee. And if the model offers a discounted upfront fee for less than $$/mo x 12 months, that could benefit Bandlab relating to the costs of monthly processing as well as save us some annual out-of-pocket cost.

  10. Okay, so I downloaded the VST3 file and the Library ZIP files onto my desktop. Had Comodo Antivirus scan the files and no issues. Extracted the files and ran the extracted files trough Comodo Antivirus and also no issues.

So will load them later this evening on my music computer and see if any issues and I can install correctly.... and if it plays correctly!!

2021 version though. I'm pretty happy with 365, tbh. It's not cheap at like $99/yr but I pay for 6 licenses and get a good amount of cloud storage with it.

I'm paying $7.95 per month to Microsoft for 365, but I don't know if that fee covers additionbal computers in my same household.

How did you subsribe to the $$99/Annual for 6-licenses deal? I'm unaware of that option.

  12. I had a similar problem recently (about 7-8 days ago) on a song that ran fine the last time I accessed it which was about two months ago. Suspecting either some Windows10 patches whcich I haven't yet looked up what was loaded or a Cakewalk upgrade (I have to check when I loaded the most recent mod) or the fact that I've rcently added and updated a lot of software.

So far no other songs have exhibited a similar crash, but following this thread to see what possible solutions there may be to figure out the problem.

  13. Wel, I too have over 600 plugins but quite a few are duplicates (VST & VST3 versions). I have reached the same point in not adding more plugins unless they are part of the collections that I have decided to focus on (iZotope, NI, IKM, Melda,Sonible) but with one major exception. I am still a sucker to buy plugins that might possibly make my own voice sound better than it naturally is. I am a hobbyist and like to record my own covers of songs I like, but I feel my voice needs some pizazz or magic to make my brain believe that I sound better than I am. So when I see an ad focused on enhancing vocals, I demo it, or if cheap enough, just buy it and play with it when I have spare time. So, armed with Melodyne Assistant, Nectar3, Ozone, and a diverse collection of vocal plugins, I go after the Holy Grail of making my voice sound like I'm really a good singer with a distinctive voice. It's the #1 item on my Bucket List to do that, and I'm getting way closer to needing to complete that List!

  14. I ordered the $5.99 Win10 Pro upgrade. Got the license key, followerd @Starship Krupa upgrade guidance, including doing a system restore before stating the upgrade.

Win10 Activation screen accepted the new license key and I started the upgrade. Seemed to all go smoothly, but somewhere around the middle of the upgrde process I got a crash and  a message that the upgrade ran into a problem and the changes made were being reversed. So about 15 min later, I was back to my normal Win10 environment. I checked the Blue Screen utility and the system crash was there but no simple clue as to the nature of the problem.

So I'll hold on to the upgrade key and since I am considering a newer PC, I would expect it can be used on that Win10 standard version.

Bottom line... The upgrade key was accepted by Microsoft and the upgrade program ran for about 15 min before the crash with the status  messages indicating all was going well. So I feel it's a valid purchase.

Odd that iZotope would snub Cakewalk that way, given their long co-history (e.g. Radius since SONAR 6).

Several iZotope employees used to work for Cakewalk; I wonder if one of them holds some kind of grudge.

One possibility on the support issue... I recall a conversation with a plugin vendor, I think it was Waves at the time, and the when I asked their support tech about the lack of endorsement for Cakewalk for a particular plugin, he made the comment that Cakewalk updates their software too frequently and users tend to have the latest update (because it's free?) so it's difficult for a vendor to constantly have to test their software to the latest version.

I'm quite fine with that... versus the periodic upgrades on other DAWS and a cost for the upgrade!!

  16. Since I happen to be on this thread this evening, I am happy to report that this week I ordered Jim's Pro Studio DAW tricked up with Jim's recommended i9-12900k chip, 32GB RAM, and one of dem der newfangled 1 TB M2 SSD drives for sample libraries, along with a few other extras.

I found out about Jim's business through this site, looked at all his "Tower" computer family on his web site and decided on the Platinum Studio. Sent Jim an email with a couple questions and he responded within an hour with complete answers to my questions as well as suggesting to call him to discuss. I did so, and Jim talked me down from that higher priced model based on his understanding of my needs. We had a very informative (for me) conversation and I felt very comfortable with Jim's knowledge and guidance to entrust him to build my dream music machine. As an older retiree, long-time keyboardist/music hobbyist, and very long-time (25+ yrs) Cakewak user, I believe I will be getting a perfect PC to pursue my ongoing study of vocal recording and music production and being able to use some of the CPU-intensive applications (Izotope Nectar3, Ozone9, RX8) , Sampletank4, and IKMultimedia products & plugins that I already own (without having to do work-arounds!) and can now look seriously at other products that I couldn't run on my 11 yr old PC.

I am sooo looking forward to being able to update my forum signature lines with my brand spankin' new music computer in September. Then going through the dreaded process of reloading my software products, plugins, instruments, etc onto the new machine. Hopefully I will have the fortitude to archive or delete many of the  products I've acquired over the last 20 yrs, and skinny my rig down to the ones I really use, like a couple posters here have done.

  17. I saw an email from Waves about hHarmony yesterday. Although I own Izotope Nectar 3, which has a harmony component that works great to enhance a solo vocal and I'm using it a lot, this Waves Harmony appears to be a different type of plugin, more intended to create a multi-singers effect like my older TC Helicon Voiceworks hardware module. At the current $40 price, seems like a useful add, but s I was reading the specs on which DAW hosts it works with, it states that the 2021 Cakewalk (latest Waves has tested) doesn't support the Harmony MIDI features. That seems odd but I don't know what it doesn't do or why, so hesitant to buy it.

Here's a page link that opens up the specs tabs...
