So if I install a VST 2 and it defaults to Cakewalk folder I change it to one of the others. I reserve the Cakewalk VST folder for Sonar and Cakewalk stuff.

Same here. And as you said, some 3rd party installers find that Cakewalk path first and try to use that, unless I point it to my main VST folder.

  2. How many computers can I install my product(s) on?

    https://www.toontrack.com/faq/how-many-computers-can-i-install-my-products-on/

Toontrack allows two(2) active authorizations at one time with four(4) total authorizations. This means that you can have two computers authorized to use your Toontrack product concurrently (however not in use at the same time, as per the EULA). One common example is that the user have one permanent studio computer and also one laptop. If you decide that you want to change the computers that are actively authorized you can simply remove their authorization in your Toontrack account and add another one.
For example: if you have two computers actively authorized to use your software and you would like to add a third one, you would remove one of the currently active authorizations from your Toontrack.com account and then add an additional active authorization. In this example your active authorizations would be 2 of 2 and your Total authorizations would be 3 of 4.

While Toontrack can never add active authorizations to your account we can reset your total authorizations if you end up needing more than four.

Considering there are no signs of that software appearing any time soon, that's more than correct. It doesn't matter who owns what if the software is not available for purchase or use outside of people who already own it or acquire it using "illegal" (you can't lose profits from a software you don't sell licenses for) means.

I was just pointing out that BandLab owns ALL of the Cakewalk intellectual properties that were formerly owned by Gibson/Cakewalk.

An owner can keep it locked away and choose not to sell it or give it away. Bottom line is that BandLab now owns all of the former Z3ta+ and rgc:audio properties. Totally their call what to do with it.

was Cakewalk a company back when rgc was bought? or did Roland buy them? that may be the difference.

FYI: A bit of Cakewalk history and the timeline. (For the old-timers that were around here at the time, this is all old news, and it was fully discussed and debated to death in the forums back then). See the forum archives for details! ;)

Cakewalk was a company when rgc:audio was acquired in Jan 2005. Cakewalk® Acquires rgc:audio https://www.cakewalk.com/Press/Release/1042/01-20-05-rgcaudio

Roland buys a major share of Cakewalk in 2008, and began using "Cakewalk by Roland" as a trademark. Roland had been a minor partner since 2003. https://www.kvraudio.com/news/roland_to_acquire_major_share_of_cakewalk_8518

Cakewalk was sold to Gibson in 2013. https://www.cakewalk.com/Gibson-Announcement

Gibson shut down Cakewalk as a company in Nov 2017. https://www.cakewalk.com/Gibson-Announcement

BandLab buys all Cakewalk assets in 2018. http://forum.cakewalk.com/Bandlab-buys-all-Cakewalk-assets-m3730727.aspx

There may still be still some "publicly" unanswered questions regarding the details of the last transaction, but the powers that be were pretty clear at the time that it was for ALL Cakewalk owned assets.

    https://blog.bandlab.com/cakewalk-announcement-faq/

"Cakewalk’s complete set of intellectual property and certain related assets were acquired by BandLab Technologies and the acquisition was announced in February 2018"

"BandLab Technologies did not acquire the operating company of Cakewalk Inc., only the complete set of intellectual property, patents, trademarks and certain assets necessary or related to the entire Cakewalk product suite. "

They most likely don't. z3t4 and other stuff was developed by rgc:audio. Although rgc has been proudly displaying that "Coming Soon" message on their website for several years now and nothing came yet.

That is incorrect. Cakewalk bought rgc:audio years ago and the former owner went to work for Cakewalk developing the Cakewalk line of software synths. If Cakewalk owned it then, BandLab owns it now.

I am just not sure about the new EZKeys and what will happen with expansions. I guess it should not matter.

For MIDI packs probably nothing changes. But there will be changes to the sound expansions to accommodate the new features of v2, even though the v1 expansions will probably remain backwards compatible like they did with EZdrummer 3.

  8. Bottom line is that Sonar licenses are not publicly available since 2017 unless you have paid for them. And the licenses are not transferable.

They are unavailable for new users, either paid or free. Same with z3ta+ ...

I logged into my Groove 3 account and added the coupon code and it worked for me.  👍  Another thirty days free !!

Thanks, that worked! The first time I just clicked on the link in the promo email, which took me to the promo page at Groove3, which also asked me to sign-in. I got the reject message at that point "only for new subscribers".

But it appears that if you go directly to your Groove3 account and use the "Redeem Code" link at the bottom of the page, it just works! Weird!!! 🙄

In order to address 2 different software synths, I currently use internal Loobe1 and 1 cabled loop through in M-Audio 2x2 midisport module. This provides me with 32 independent Midi channels.

Has anyone used successfully 2 cabled loop throughs in M-Audio midisport ?

    Thanks.

Are you trying to run your software synths standalone?

I think it would be easier to just use a plug-in host (such as a DAW, or something like Mainstage) where each instrument track/MIDI port gets 16 MIDI channels. I have a M-Audio MIDISPORT 4x4 that I used for my outboard hardware synths years ago, but it's no longer needed here since I only use software synths now.

I would love to simply run the uninstaller but I don't wantit to remove any that I actually use/want... and there doesn't appear to be any way to specify such during an uninstall unless I'm mistaken...

Right, as each product with a bundle would likely be all or none. Installers for a single plugin shouldn't be an issue though.

If I want to remove plugins from my list, do I simply remove the dll's (store for safety) and re-run vst scanner set to re-scan all? <sheesh>.... I hate re-scanning things already working....

If the plugins came with an installer, it's best to run their uninstaller [Windows Control Panel > Programs and Features].

Installer based plugins are likely to have more loose ends, beyond just the .dll files. For example, plugin support  and content (presets, etc.) folders here and there, plus registry entries. The .dll file is just the part that the DAW sees, but more is likely buried in various places in your hard drive (tip of the iceberg).

But if all you did to install a plugin was drag and drop a .dll into your plugins folder, by all means all you need to do is remove that. But most plugins today are not that simple anymore.

You can also go into "Utilities > Cakewalk Plug-in Manager" and exclude the plugins that you don't want to see. This is probably easier, and you are less likely to break something than trying to manually remove a bunch of plugins. They are also easier to restore that way, by simply reversing the exclusion.

    Edited: for clarity.

  13. Try iZotope RX 9. The "Music Rebalance" feature can be adjusted to filter out 4 stems with automatic stem separation to generate individual files: Vocal, Bass, Percussion, & Other. Or just rebalance the mix, for example remove the vocal or isolate the vocal.

YMMV with results, and of course it always depends on the source material.

    https://www.izotope.com/en/products/rx/features/music-rebalance.html

I believe that Steinberg SpectraLayers has something similar.
