  1. I was able to hear 18000 Hz on my headphones. I didn't think I would get that high (frequency wise). It sounded quite a bit lower (no pun intended) that the other frequencies though.

I wasn't very kind to my hearing when I was young, but have taken better and better care of it as I've gotten older.

It is pretty well documented that the tracks are basically created most of the time and then it is given to MJK to come up with lyrics.

Drums being "last" in the creative process wouldn't be accurate....in some cases it is pretty clear that the time signatures/drum grooves are the foundation of the idea in the first place.

The other piece to the quote is also that you can't acutally trust what the band says about a lot of stuff and they are notorious for taking that kind of approach when asked about the music or creative process.

I've been following their creative output for literally 30 years now.  In the early days interviews were super rare and the few they would give had quotes similar to the above.

While I don't agree with a lot of the lyrical content itself, the band is musically briliant.  Ironically I find it feels quite emotional despite also tending to be unusually technical (especially for a band that lives in "drop-d" ).

For those that don't "get it" try listening to orchestras and the like doing covers of their work.  I'd tend to assume radio stations are playing the new stuff (or perhpas something like Sober) it seems fairly unlikley that a Radio Station is going to play one of the tracks most fans are really actually going to be into.  Who knows though as I don't listen to the radio.

So I was wrong it seems. Through my son, that'll hear about this ;) Never too old to learn at least (I hope).
    All the best.

  3. I'm a Tool fan, and have been for 20(?) years. Something that has rubbed off on my sons, I'm pleased to say. My oldest son usually keep me up to date on the latest releases of bands he knows I like before I know about it myself 🤘

They're one of my top 10 favorites, I'd say. I like their older stuff better than the latest releases, but that's probably just me getting older and hang on to old favorites, I presume... 👴

They played in Oslo a month or so ago, and I didn't know about it until the day of the show (🥴), so no way to get (legal, and at 10 times the price) a ticket.

One of my nephews went without telling me, and he won't do that again ;)

They are one of a few of my favorite bands I haven't gotten to see live, and probably never will (now).

I also like that they make all the music and vocals before handing it over to Danny Carey (the drummer). A thing my oldest son told me, and (supposedly) quoted from Maynard James Keenan (vocals) and Adam Jones (geetar) is that: "We finish everything before giving it over to Danny to *#@%  it up".

So, yeah... I'm a Tool (fan).

Strange, here in Sweden most of them are over 50 USD (using the actual currency rate)! 😄

Maybe it's because Softube is a Swedish company! 😆

    It's a bit strange, I agree.

I (as an example, and being from Norway) always buy directly from Toontrack, using Swedish currency when there are deals. That always gives me a better price than buying from any international store using $,£ or €.

    All the best.

  5. Hi. I'm  actually working on a balled of mine, that will not contain shouting/screaming at all.

Acoustic geetar, SD3 (as always), some lead el geetarz, some strings & choirs and vox.

Doing a bit of softly shouting at Mike after this cig break (always a good idea for "singers" ;) ). Not trying to hit high notes today, so should be good to go 😎

And it's a 3+ minutes song, not my usual 5-7 mins.

    All the best.

Thanks for listening (several times 😎) and the positive feedback, Steve.

Kick is fine on the Bose cans, but must agree the snare is not prominent.
    Enjoyed the tune!

Thanks for listening and feedback, Tom.

A new mix is up with some changes, incl. a more  prominent snare.

    All the best.

Eggshellint mate! Sounds like it's finished to me. 🙂

    Thanks mate!

I was told elsewhere that the kick and snare was almost missing, so Am trying to fix that.

  9. I'm  a creature of habit, so Console 1 (with most compatible plugins for it, both UAD and Softube) is my main mixing "system". Beyond that, I mostly use 3rd party plugins I know how to  get a decent sound (I'm after) quickly.

I always use stock compressors for side-chaining though.

    All the best.

If you were given a plane ticket to anywhere and $25,000.00 where would you go and what would you do?

    Let's keep it music related.

    I'll start.

London and book as many 8 hour sessions I could at Abbey Road Studios for Citizen Regen.

I'd use my part to get as many sessions for CR at Sunset sound, just to get the odds and ends we might have missed (;) ).
