  1. Sometimes when I'm exporting a project (using Export>Audio to mix down several audio tracks and export them as a wave file) I realize I've made a mistake--usually a track I either want to exclude or include has been left out. But, I don't know of anyway you can safely stop the process once it has been started. Sometimes typing Alt F4 will stop it, but that crashes Cakewalk. I'm still working with ver. 2022.02.
  2. A great loss. Dave was such an innovator and a real pioneer in the area of MIDI technology, and he continued to be right through his last years. I mentioned in the Coffee House that you can find a great Panel Discussion that included Dave, Roger Lynn, and Tom Oberheim back at the 2015 Gearfest on the Sweetwater website. It's about 90 minutes long, but very interesting to listen to whether you are an old hand or new to electronic music and synths.
  3. For those who might have missed it the first time, Sweetwater has re-posted a great panel discussion from its 2015 Gearfest that includes Roger Linn, Dave Smith, and Tom Oberheim. It runs for a little over 90 minutes and includes a Q & A. It's a few years old, but still great to listen to and watch. Here's the link: www.sweetwater.com/insync/oberheim-is-back/ Enjoy!
  4. Very sad news. He was one of the most interesting film music composers of the late 20th century. I'll miss his work.
  5. I stand corrected! and David's suggestion lead me to my error. I went back to my test project and discovered that in PRV Snap when you set the note duration, at the top of that tall white rectangle of note values you also need to make sure you check Snap To if that is the way you want to move the notes. I thought it was set to Snap To, but it was set to Snap By. Once I made that change, everything worked fine. You have to keep in mind that the Snap mode you've set in the Control Bar (global Snap) is independent of what it is set to in PRV Snap. Again, I want to thank everyone for their help. I will sleep contentedly tonight knowing that all is well in Cakewalk World 😌. . . i think.
  6. Everyone, thanks so much for your responses and suggestions. Will, I especially appreciated your visual aid and suggestion about setting Follow Snap Settings in PRV. I think we are all in agreement that there is some kind of glitch in Piano Roll Snap and it could go back a ways--I can't remember the last time I used this feature. Hopefully, the Bakers will get it straightened out in a future update .
  7. When adjusting the positions of notes in PRV using only the global Snap To settings in the Control Bar (PRV Snap To off) everything works fine and notes snap to their proper position according to the resolution set on the Control Bar. However, if I then turn on PRV Snap To and set a different resolution some of the notes jump when you try to move them with either the Move tool or the Smart tool and as you try to slide them with the mouse, they avoid the vertical line of the resolution level set and settle at a point several milliseconds either before or behind the line. I tried testing PRV Snap To with several simple MIDI projects where I would play and record a simple melody of about six or eight quarter notes a little off beat. Next turn on Global Snap To, set the note resolution to a quarter note. All of the off-beat notes were easily moved to their correct position--Snap To worked. Next, turn on PRV Snap To and set resolution to Measure. Some notes now jump when you try to move them and won't settle exactly on the measure line. For example, when I tried to move a note to 3:01:000 it settled at 2:04:953 and couldn't be moved any closer, unless Snap To was turned off. I'm currently using CbB v. 2022.02. I don't think I've encountered this problem in any of the previous versions. Please advise.
  8. Batsbrew, Thanks very much for the recommendation. I'll put them on my list of studios to contact.
  9. I'm looking for a good mastering studio to help us master our first CD album. Most of the music will be ambient electronic music. Needs to be in the Northeastern US. Aleo
  10. Thanks so much for your assistance, Steve. I'll have to download CbB Tools and try your suggestion.
  11. The newly updated Reference Guide is a big help, and I really appreciate all the work that went into it. Is there any way it could be added as Offline Help in CbB the way it used to be available in the old Sonar programs?
  12. I forgot to mention earlier that, during the interview, Bob Katz mentions an album that he mastered a few years back that he highly regards, 3 Cities by the Bombay Dub Orchestra. I got a copy of the CD and not only is it a great example of Bob's mastering, I found the music by Garry Hughes and Andrew Mackay to be a fascinating blend of genres, very cinematic, and sensuous. Highly recommended; play this on the best stereo system you can get your hands on.
  13. Great interview! I'm a beginner at learning the art of mastering, but Bob's discussions in this interview were both enlightening and very entertaining. Highly recommended.
  14. Mike's video tutorials are very helpful and informative for beginners and even experienced users.
  15. Amazing! It worked and now I feel really stupid--but I've learned something. Next time I'll do a better job of searching previously answered questions. many thanks Steve.
  16. I've encountered a problem with setting and maintaining my default Audio Driver Bit Depth in both the Preferences page and with new and old Cakewalk projects. A few days ago, I called up an old cwp file and noticed the bit depth had been changed by the program from 24 to 16. I clicked on Preferences>Audio page and discovered that the field for Audio Drive Bit Depth was grayed out with 24 in the field, but I could not change the bit depth to any other value. I then checked several old projects and found that the bit depth had been changed to 16 in all of them. I tried launching a new project and in the New Project File dialog box the bit depth was also set to 16; however, in the dialog box I was able to set it back to 24. The interesting thing is that once I set the bit depth to 24 in the New Project File box, the bit depth was changed back to 24 bits in all of my older projects! My default sample rate set in Preferences is 48 KHz. and the program has not altered this. The only time I use 16 bits and 44.1 KHz is when I'm preparing a file for burning to CD. My questions are: what has caused Cakewalk to change my default bit depth to 16, which I rarely use? How do I get the Audio Drive Bit Depth Field to not be grayed out and allow me to change the bit depth to something other than 24 if I need to? Am I correct in understanding that if the bit depth of a project is set to say 24 and the sample rate set to 48000 that these parameters will be saved with the project and not be altered by changes made in either Preferences or the New Project File dialog box? I am working with CbB v. 2021.11, build 18 on Creation Station PC 450 v6, i7-8700 @ 3.2GHz, 64 bit, running Win. 10 21H1.
  17. Art, About a month ago I installed Windows 10 21H1 on my Creation Station computer and this version is working fine with CbB v. 2021.11 build 18 (and all of my software synths). Have not tried Win. 21H2 yet.
  18. I recently downloaded and installed CbB v. 2021.11, Build 018 and have experienced no problems with this version and Windows 10 21H1. Everything seems to be working fine.
  19. I am planning to upgrade Windows 10 to ver. 21H1. Are there any known issues with Win. 10 21H1 and Cakewalk ver. 2021.09 or the upcoming v. 2021.11?
  20. Good discussion guys. Thanks again MS!
  21. I am running CbB v. 2021.01 on a Creation Station Computer V.6, 64 bit interfaced with a MOTU 828x. The O.S. is Windows 10 Home v. 1803 and I'm thinking of upgrading to v. 1909 (this is what Sweetwater is currently installing). What version of Windows does Cakewalk recommend? Are there settings in this version that you would recommend changing from the default settings for Windows?
  22. Many thanks MS, Scook, and John! I'm learning a lot about these settings. In all of my current projects I'm working with 48kHz. and 24 bits . In Preferences, 64 bit Double Precision Engine is always checked; Record Bit Depth is 24, Render Bit depth is 32.
  23. Thanks for responding Jimbo. I may want to use some plug-ins during the mixdown. The tracks will be mixed and exported as wave files then the final track will be burned on a CD.
  24. I recently opened an old cwp file that I created back when I was using Sonar. it contains eight audio tracks that I was in the final stages of mixing. The tracks' volume and pan envelopes still need some work and I would like to finish this project, but I noticed that everything was recorded 44.1kHz and 16 bit. From the standpoint of preserving the fidelity of the recorded sound, would there be any advantage in exporting these tracks as 48kHz, 24 bit wave files (using pow r 3 dithering) and them importing them to a new CbB project set to work at 48KHz and 24 bit and finish my final mix in the new CbB file? if I do this should I remove the old volume and pan envelopes prior to exporting the tracks?
