  1. I have been having difficulty with editing envelopes for a long time, and I'm finally getting around to asking about it. I know that Ctrl-clicking supposedly makes it behave differently, but it doesn't seem consistent. And when no nodes are selected at all, dragging makes it select all the nodes under a clip or some such, when all I want is to move one segment. Anyway, I know if I learned how it would be quick and easy. Where can I get a rundown of how that all works?
  2. Can you let me know where you are hearing that piano effect? I'm a pianist myself so am very sensitive to minute piano details like that. However, as I type I realize that I hadn't finished this movement - far from it - so I haven't been paying the closest attention to those details yet. Regarding the trumpet, turns out it was the wrong choice in the first place, and it's now a clarinet and much more appropriate for the musical moment. Now I'm on to part 2 of this track, different theme entirely, with solo strings and winds thrown in. Much consternation thereby.
  3. Well the reason I stopped responding to this question is the problem went away. Then it came back. Then it went away again. Then it went away again. So I'm just going to initiate a new instance of this instrument. Which, to answer, is EastWest Piano Steinway, and yeah, instrument track.

  5. I have a Midi track which sounded too loud, and like perhaps the notes were doubled, though that's sometimes hard to tell. I went to reduce the audio volume on the track, but even taking the slider all the way down I could still hear the track at close to the same volume as if it were up to the max. I assumed somehow the track had been duplicated or maybe bounced to audio or something. So I went to hunt that down, and started by muting this track, and the track muted completely. So, muting it works, but volume slider to -INF does not. Because mute works, it doesn't seem like it's related to any other track. I turned off effects for the track, made sure it was routing directly to Master, checked the adjacent track which is a different piano and it worked as expected. Also made sure notes were not doubled or something, they were not. What could be going on here?
  6. Thanks for the idea. Unfortunately I do not have a setting with that name.
  7. There's really nothing to screen shot because everything looks normal. Anyway, I don't know what caused it, but the solution was to make sure "Select controllers along with notes" is enabled, delete the entire bar in which the zero length notes start happening, and re-enter that measure. If I delete the notes WITHOUT "Select controllers..." also enabled, the problem remained. Even though there were no visible pedal markings in that bar! Moving on...
  8. Definitely seems to be in the midi data itself, as when I move the clip to another track, the same thing happens. And it's not clip-based, because the problem starts in the middle of a clip. However, any new notes I add also have this problem.
  9. All of a sudden on one track, some of my notes, from a specific point onward, are extremely staccato, as if they have the absolute minimum length. I've bounced to clip, manually adjusted the note lengths, looked at the Event List, copied the notes to another track, and restarted Cakewalk completely, nothing helps. "We will do everything in our power to ensure you don't ever get into a creative flow." - Cakewalk
  10. Yes, it's when coming back from sleep that it pops up
  11. lol yes indeed. Made moreso by the fact that, ironically, that didn't solve the problem.
  12. "widely known" Hmm... I might take issue with that "makes sense" Absolutely does, but it's a little like when I was recently told "Just check the setting on the low limit pot" when what I really needed to hear was "turn that little dial on the side". In my day job I worked in tech for 30 years, and only now, having moved to a different industry, did I realize what a different world tech people live in than everybody else, and we didn't even realize it. I'm talking aerospace engineers and the like, who are truly brilliant yet can barely open an Excel doc. For example, had this Cakewalk error said something like: "The above audio/MIDI device was disconnected from your system. It's a USB device, so either something got unplugged, or else the USB controller for it was turned off in Windows to save power when your computer went to sleep. You can disable this feature in Windows in the Device Manager, (where the controllers have various different names, such as "Generic USB Hub"). Doing this will leave your Cakewalk outputs on even when the computer has gone to sleep. But if you did in fact unplug something, would you like Cakewalk to reroute these outputs to an available device?" Click "No" to keep current settings." ... that would have been better.
  13. Wow, thanks! All those controllers had that option checked, so I've unchecked them. What an arcane solution, I'd have never found it. (Assuming this is the solution)
  14. Because my projects tend to take forever to load, I leave them open when I'm done working. Every time I come back to my computer after having been away all day I get a dialog that says "The above audio/MIDI device was disconnected from your system. Would you like Cakewalk to reroute these outputs to an available device?" Click "No" to keep current settings." I always click No and there's never been a problem, but it's annoying that I have to do this every time I sit down, plus there's a low level worry that there really is something wrong. what is this about?
