Hey there Robert, thank you for suggestions, nothing helped. I did see 4 entries for Yamaha in device manager, I uninstalled them, but did not check "Delete driver" because I did not want it to try to delete driver that is in use. I unchecked Yamaha in preferences, saved project, restarted computer and reopened it and there is nothing still. It was set on MIDI Ch (C) None. I set it to 1(default). Nothing. Veriorum, I have no control surfaces listed in that section- empty. Thanks. David, I still have to check MIDI Activity monitor that Cakewalk places in the Windows System Tray (Preferences > Display > Show MIDI Activity on Windows Taskbar) BRainbow, I do not have MIDI interface, so I cant check it. I do have another sound card that has MIDI- I will have to connect it to test. I have strong feeling that the issue is inside the keyboard, not Sonar. Now I remember that I did have MIDI working because I had annoying MIDI LOOP that would make all Motif patterns play in super tempo. I remember dealing with that problem, so MIDI was working. I loaded Voice Bank that was saved as "All Data" which changed all settings. But I have MIDI set back to USB, I do not know what it cold do to stop midi transmission. Thank you very much.

I have delay with getting back to the studio to test your great suggestions. Thank you for looking up the driver page- I was planing to do that some time. Appears- the latest driver is from 2015, I am pretty sure I have that one installed. The board used to work before 2017, then I was using new build computer for 2 years, and not sure when I saw it working last time with this system... Mark, thank you for confirmation. I did not think Yamaha driver went belly up too. This is encouraging. Will be back soon.

Thank you for all your intelligent replies. I can't reply in details right now, so this is just brief post to support your helpful thoughts. Midi channel mismatch- no. Keyboard transmits in single mode to 1. I select Midi inputs either Omni, or Yamaha Omni or Yamaha 1- tried all that there logically available. I did not look at MIDI channel on the track, but why would it be different than 1? I did not type in Ch2 or anything. Yes, the USB ports all got changed. BUT Yamaha had metal solid driver. I am pretty sure it was moved before. If not Yamaha port, then definitely other USB devices. I will make attempt to connect it where I remember it used to be, but doubt this will solve it. I did not try this all the way, but I think I did try to uncheck all Yamaha ports (4), and then check them back- minus saving the project closing and reopening. I will look at Device manager tonight. Again- this never happened before. Gswitz- what do you mean- MIDI is used by controller? What controller? I always had multiple controllers connected. Cakewalk (Sonar) has ability to detect when something got connected. Many times in the past I would forget to turn keyboard on and when I turn it on AFTER Sonar is opened and project is loaded, it would just say that "Device was connected- would you like to add it?" So right now Cakewalk can FEEL that something is connected- dont remember if it calls it by name or not, but it definitely detects when it connected and when it disconnected. It just does not recognize any data. Markrounds, are you on Windows 10? If so, do you have latest updates installed? Do you have latest Cakewalk update installed? Please, confirm- my worse fear is that Windows update destroyed driver as it did with Roland and Roland never fixed it, so I already lost V-Synth and Fantom. Yamaha was good and survived every update. So, please, confirm your OS and that it is working with new updates. Thank you. DavidBaay, I had this issue in the past of blue light Input Echo was not on and I had no activity. I I double checked to make sure the blue light is ON. The track looks dead. No meter activity- no signs of life of any kind. The problem is not AUDIO. Motif has Local ON and Local Off. In Local ON, I can play keyboard and hear audio through USB Audio interface. I can record AUDIO, but I dont have MIDI activity. IF there was activity, it would work with Local OFF, which would go through software and trigger notes via MIDI as opposite to go to sound module when Local On. So- AUDIO is working, no MIDI. Hey there This is emergency, because- well- I am a keyboardist and Yamaha Motif XS* is my main MIDI instrument and I use a lot of MIDI. I have no MIDI signal on MIDI track. Yes, the blue light on a track is on. I have Yamaha XS Ins and Outs showing in Devices for Audio and MIDI, computer is making connected/disconnected sounds when connect/disconnect USB cable, Cakewalk asks if I want to re-route devices when connected/disconnected- everything looks normal, but no signal. The MIDI track is dead. I have this board from 2008. With Windows updates, I lost USB connection from V-Synth GT and Fantom G- Roland decided to not update their drivers. But Yamaha was always stable. It was always on, soon as I load any project on any MIDI channel- it always worked. I am panicking wondering if Windows did some update that caused it. I did check another USB port and another USB cable. We recently moved and I was not using a studio in a new place, so configuration could of change. I also loaded voices bank that was saved as "All data" and all my MIDI settings were wiped out. But I have it set MIDI to USB, Local Off. They are very simple settings. I checked everything 20 times. I dont understand why I can't make it work. Any thoughts? Thank you.

But... what if I had 16 measures part but I only want to select bass notes in 4 measures? What if I dont need the whole 16 measures of bass? Looks like clicking on actual KEY on the left is nice but not what needed. I need to click on the individual notes and get them selected. Is there a way to do it- to select more than one note? Thank you, but no- it is not old controller. The problem was that it would mute the take with notes when I record CC take, and I think- I tried sound on sound and it did not make a difference, but now it working. So I dont know what it was.

This is new anomaly, unless it is some kind of new feature. Why is it that I select clips- by holding Control button and clicking on the MIDI clips in track, then activate (select?) another track to which I want to paste, and instead of it pasting there, it creates another MIDI track with the same name (Nexus- software synth) as the one I copied from? Looks like it copies/duplicates the whole track instead of copying clips. Thank you.

I am watching artists using Abelton, and in its piano roll, they enter chords, then simply highlight lowest notes of the chord and copy them in another track as a bass. I have tried holding Control, holding Shift- it wound not let me to select more than one note. How do I select only bass notes of a chords in more than one chord? Thank you.

I wish I could just start project and go straight to work. But no. I have to spend time figuring out why it doing something it was not issue before. So I recoded few midi notes and now would like to record modulation wheel movement on the same midi track. I have done it many many many times. But this time- it mutes recorded notes. If I can't here the notes- I dont know when to move the mod wheel. Why is it now muting the takes? I need to hear the notes! This is very common thing to do- to record melody and then record faders/ knobs/wheel movement on the same track. I never had issue with it. How do I make it play the track when I record on it? Thank you.

Actually I dont remember any dialog boxes when imported. Why I dont understand anybody? Sorry. I imported files. I assume it is 24 bit...

Jumping on a wagon late. You all so smart- I can't comprehend what you saying- maybe because somebody talking on a phone next to me while I am trying to read. In simple terms- where are these settings to save/create workspaces? My issue is that I have 3 monitors, 3rd is mostly not active- it is my TV- it stays on another HDMI for cable TV. And occasionally, some windows open on 3rd monitor, and I dont see them. Also my 2nd monitor is sometime turned off to save power and soon as I turn it off, all my opened plugins and software synths jump on 1st monitor. I try to turn off monitors simultaneously, but everything still jumps on 1st monitor and when I turn on my 2nd monitor- it does not go back. My older computer that had AMD graphic card did not do it. This is nVidia graphics and I use Display Port connection for 1st and 2nd monitor and HDMI for TV. I think- maybe DP detects when 1 monitor is turned off and gives everything signal? My other computer keeps all windows dont matter what I do with monitors, but this one repositions everything to monitor 1. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Hey there Getting ready to do a remix on short deadline. What is the best way to import many single instruments wav files on multiple tracks? Dont want to do it one at a time- would like to select them all and drop in Cakewalk, but afraid- they will all land on one track. Thank you.

The vocalist says- he sorted it out after talking to someone. Will have to see what that means. Thank you, if it still looking stereo, will try your suggestions.

Thank you for reply. My understanding that if you convert anything to mono, you still have both signals, each going tp left and right, so it will duplicate the signal. Can somebody help me express what I feel/hear, please? Thank you.

Thank you for recommendation. Still trying to figure out what that is and how it happens. When I click on Mono/Stereo Icon on my track and it changes from Stereo to Mono- there is a difference in sound. Very small. When on stereo, I dont hear duplication (it does not sound tense like if you copy mono vocal track and play 2 at the same time). But when I change from Stereo to Mono, something disappears- it sounds like there was some very small effect on the track. It is barely audible. I am afraid- if I just split his track, I will be missing something that went to another half of the track- like if there was some kind of stereo effect and the tracks not identical.

What is Bounce to Split? Is it in Sonar? Thank you.

Delete one track? What do you mean by this? The vocal was recorded on stereo track- what do you mean? So- is it duplicated signal? How would anyone record MONO signal on STEREO track, unless you have 2 signals? Like if there were 2 microphones connected, then you would have 2 inputs. Like I said- if in Sonar I select stereo input "Motu 1 + Motu 2, I would get one flat line, because I only have Mic connected to Motu 1. But he works on his studio so I dont know what he got connected. Definitely not 2 Mics. So how can you even record Mono to Stereo track? Thank you.

Hey there I got the files from a vocalist with the vocal track. His vocal track has 2 lines as if it was stereo. He bounced it from Logic on Mac. When I record my vocals, they are always single line! He says- this is how his vocals always come out and it is mono track. I am concerned that he sets it up some kind of wrong way and that he has duplicated L+R mono signals on one track. Otherwise- how do you explain stereo-looking track? (also lines identical). When I set up my Mic, I have options: Motu 1, Motu 2 or Motu 1+2. If I select stereo track, I would have wavy looking drawing on one side and straight line on another side of this track. If I select Motu 1, I get one wavy line in the middle- never 2 lines. I can make them to be 2 lines if I apply some kind of Mono to Stereo effect. But he says- there is no effects. Why 2 lines on one track? Thank you.

Thank you for this good information. Last night I accidentally terminated the process. Because my partner opened "More Info" view and I never seen it before, so the green bar turned in to graph. I wanted to close it, so I hit the X and- bam- terminated. It copied something like 150GB. Waited 3 days. I am ignorant, so I did not know if there was a way to resume from where it stopped, so I just deleted all files that were copied... The hard part of restoring it from back up is that I am not sure what backup I have. It may be image file, may be incremental back up... I have the same drive on another computer, but I dont have any free SATA to connect new drive, and would have to open case, disconnect some drive, connect this drive, format it, then copy files, then reconnect everything. Or- I can copy over network, but I will have to drag that computer from another house... Or- see how much space I have on my portable... Seagate makes me really angry right now.

Thank you for your replies. I started copying from failing drive, now after 3 days I am at 36%, I dont want to stop it. It stumbled few times on Sonar .ASSET files and some files from Obsynth- probably audio. Anybody knows what are the ASSET files? Thanks.
