  1. I can only suggest checking the windows log files for some indication of why the program closed. I use rtpMIDI etc without any issues so I don't see that they would cause any problems. You could also try starting Cakewalk in "Run as Administrator" mode to see if perhaps the problem is user or permissions related.
  2. Sadly not. I still get random crashes with a number of VST's. BBC SO Discover VST3 fails regularly, occasional Dimenson Pro crashes ...... etc etc. It's very odd that sometimes I can open a project and get the crash immediately. I then re-open the same project and it works fine. Not sure why it happens or how to get around it. I just make sure I do regular saves to ensure I work around the problems.
  3. I mentioned in the feedback thread a while ago that the behaviour of the "Insert Instrument Track" function was behaving strangely. I was advised at the time by one of the developers that the way in which instruments tracks were added had been changed to make it consistent with the Insert Audio and Insert MIDI tracks functions. However this "New and Enhanced" behaviour is driving me nuts as it doesn't work as it did, doesn't work as it should or indeed doesn't even work consistently the same way. I've created a short video showing how odd this behaviour is. Can one of the developers please explain how this "insert above current track" is in anyway a step forward and why it doesn't work consistently or as explained.
  4. You need to set it up in Cakewalk Preferences settings as a Control Surface. Under MIDI make sure that the your Mixface devices (SLMIX???) are enabled for input and output, the go into control surfaces and click the + button. Set the mode a Mackie Control and your Midi inputs and outputs to be your SLMIXUSB devices. You should make sure your Mixface is set correctly in the DAW/CTRL section of GLOBAL EDIT settings. It should then have all the controls mapped automatically and there should be no reason to be doing "midi learn". As there is no specific option for Cakewalk in the mixface DAW/CTRL try out the various options available and you should find one that will work fine. The Ableton setting seems to use Mackie Control mode so I would start with that one.
  5. I had a very simlar thing happening with my Focusrite 18i8. Their support team were very good and connected in remotely to diagnose the issue. Sadly they couldn't and replaced the unit. However that didn't cure a thing. So not wishing to be beaten by this I went to basics. Removed the device from Windows. Then uninstalled the USB drivers from the USB cards/ports . Rebooted. Windows found the USB card again installed an appropriate driver. I connected everything up again and all worked just fine. So it was something with the USB ports and drivers in my case. These kind of glitches can be frustrating so I wish you well with finding a solution. Simple things to try:- Windows Power settings - should be "performance". Make sure your USB ports are NOT set to "let windows manage power" Make sure their are no other windows apps trying to take control of your audio devices. Make sure that your windows audio bit depth and sample rate match your DAW ASIO settings to avoid any conflict. So for example 24bit "Studio Quality" for Windows and 24bit 48Khz for your CbB DAW ASIO setting.
  6. That Pedal Show recently did a video all about the "Gilmour" sound. Using some basic pedals and a clean amp seems to be the way to go. I am guessing that any number of the free ones out there can get you pretty close. TH3, Amplitube and Guitar Rig all have clean amps included. Sadly they don't include the Gilmour "talent" switcher. This make an interesting watch but you can skip through to the last third of the video to see how Dan approaches the sound with amp, pedals and FX. Should be fairly easy to replicate with plugins.

    VS-700c driver

I am aware of the history of the VS-700 and it's integration with Cakewalk during the years Roland were involved. However your original question is slightly confusing as you were asking how to get the VS-700 working on "OSX Catalina" and obviously Cakewalk does not run on OSX as it Windows only.

    VS-700c driver

The Roland website is the place to go for support on your VS-700 but it mentions this with regard to the 10.5 driver. * When you use this driver version, you must update the V-STUDIO 700C (Console) to the latest System Update v1.31. You can find more information here :- https://www.roland.com/global/support/by_product/v-studio_700/updates_drivers/
  9. There is a Key+ slider on the MIDI panel of the of the inspector. You can use this to transpose your MIDI notes.
  10. you can use X-RAY with the Shift-X keys to make the plugin fade to the back and reverse it with the same keys
  11. No I meant this software. https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/uk/products/davinciresolve/ There is a paid version referred to as "Studio" or a completely free version. The free version will do just about anything you want as far as video editing goes unless you are a pro film or tv production editor. It has features that rival just about any other video editor out there, including Adobe Premiere Pro, Vegas etc. For anyone wanting to work with video it's a total no brainer. So long as you have a decent processor, a decent amout of RAM and a compatible Cuda or OpenCL graphics card it will work. Totally free .....what's not to like. You can also use your existing VST's in it's "fairlight audio" section too.
  12. In my install of CbB, and indeed all my other installs of Sonar Platinum and Sonar X3, the "Insert Audio Track" and "Insert Midi Track" do NOT insert above the currently selected track and never have. if I use CTRL-T, to insert an audio track, it appears as the last track in my list and the same applies to CTRL-Shift-T for midi tracks.
  13. I would suggest using a different workflow that would allow you greater control. I do similar YouTube videos and do all of the matching of video and audio in the Video editing software, something that is designed for exactly that purpose, and not in your DAW. Cakewalk only has limited abilities regarding exporting of video, it's really designed to allow you to bring video in for viewing whilst you write music, rather than be exporting video out and I would suggest a fully featured Video editor would give you far more options and better results. If your PC is capable I would highly recommend using Davinci Resolve from Blackmagic Design. There is a fully featured version available from their webiste for free. It does have some fairly high requirements for hardware though. Using that I bring in audio I have exported from Cakewalk and line it up as required. I can then export the combined video and audio in much higher quality video formats than Cakewalk natively supports.
  14. The frustration is what was once a press a button, and a couple of clicks now has an addition 3 or 4 steps for each new track. It's taken us experienced users a long time to get a productive workflow honed down to the simplest and most functional method. I'd like to try and understand the logic for adding this new way of working but for now I can't see any benefit.
  15. Yes. I'd be happy with that. I do think it's one of those occasions where the "if it isn't broken, dont fix it" rule should have been applied. I am not sure I see the logic in adding this functionality. Maybe I am missing something though and my normal workflow wasn't showing up an issue. I've been working the same way since Sonar 8 and now find this change interrupting my productivity. I also use a Control Surface to speed up my workflow and this change now just gets in the way and makes extra work for me.
  16. Thanks for your prompt attention to this. Personally I am not sure the new Insert Track functionionality is in any way a step forward. It seems to be a solution to a problem that didnt exist. As a long time Sonar user I've never had issues with the way tracks were inserted and now find the "insert above" behaviour very annoying. This is even more frustrating in situations where I am building a large template for orchestral compostions. As I build the the template, folowing a logical path through the instruments, I now have to drag or move new tracks every time. This can get very tedious.
  17. I have always used the inbuilt ability of Cakewalk to create Bundle files. These can be sent to another user or put onto a cloud storage area, dropbox, google drive, one drive etc and be shared to another user. The Bundle file contains all of the project, settings and can include all audio files, all "bundeled" into a single file. If you are using plugins / instruments, they need to be on both users systems to allow complete ability for each user to edit the project. So it's worth sticking to stock included plugins etc. You can however "freeze" tracks and bounce them within the project so that those plugins aren't required on each PC. Hope that makes sense. Bundles are easy enough to create from your open project. Do a "Save as" and select the filetype as Bundle and tick any relevant boxes for the audio to include.
  18. I have come across an issue with the revised insert track / instrument functionality. I have a project that contains all of the tracks within folders. When I now want to insert a new instrument track it assumes that I want it to go into an existing folder. The option to create a folder is greyed out. This means that I have to create the instrument track in an existing folder, create a new folder and then move the instrument track to it. If i have a track outside of the folders it allows me to insert a track as normal with the option to create a folder should I wish to do so. I'm not sure if this is directly related to the updated insert track / instrument behavior although I hadnt noticed it before. Am I missing something or is this a slight "bug" ? EDITED: Further to this issue. It seems that once an instrument is added to an existing folder, by the odd behaviour I detailed above, the ability to right click on a track and select "remove from folder" does not work. Also I cannot drag and drop the instrument back into a space where it would just become a single track again. All very odd.
  19. I keep getting issues when using my Behringer X-Touch with CbB. In the Mackie Control settings I have options set for Solo Selects Channel, Fader Touch Selects Channel and Meters for Signal LEDs + Meters. Those are saved in a preset. However on some occasions when I open CbB some of those settings are cleared and I have to manually set them again. Not sure why this is happening and it gets annoying to have to keep setting these. Any ideas why this should happen ?
  20. I have both CbB and SPLAT installed on my PC. I went into SPLAT, which has previosly worked fine, to open a legacy project and I now get the pop-up saying Membership Is required. Any idea why this should suddenly start happening and a way to rectify the issue ?
  21. From reading through those older topics it seems that the only way I can get this to work is to transcode the video to a supported format. It's a work around of sorts but not ideal. I do understand what Noel was refering to as regards the MS "bug" regarding this and the frustration that it causes. However .... other DAW's don't seem to suffer the same issues, Cubase being one example, so I am wondering how they work around the issues and Cakewalk does not ? Having to transcode large video clips can add significantly to the time it takes to get down to doing some work in Cakewalk. I appreciate this is an area that has obviously had major discusion over the years but it still keeps coming back up as no real solution seems forthcoming. Whether that's a MS issue or a Cakewalk one shouldn't really be a concern of us end users, we would just like it to work seemlessly as it appears to do in other DAW's. I have been a long time advocate of Cakewalk, having used almost all other DAW's over the years, and I love it and am familiar with it. It's like a comfy pair of slippers to me. As far as music production goes it does all I want and more and has done for many years. Scoring to video is a newer thing for me, more so over the last couple of years, and is something I get asked to do more and more. I'd just prefer it to be a little less hassle than it appears to be. Being able to just grab the video, in some of the most common formats / codecs like MP4 and H.264, put it where I need it on the timeline and get making music for it is the main thing for me. Appreciate you taking time to help and give some pointers. It's helped a bit to get a workaround but still isn't the fully fledged solution that I think we need. Thanks again.
  22. Thanks for the reply but I have that set already, it doesnt help in any way with the points I mentioned. If I am supplied a video to score to and I want to insert into my track timeline at bar 3 so that I have some free time to "collect my thoughts and get my hands into position", on whatever instrument I may be using, before playing to the video. I can't seem to find anyway to offset the video. Could you explain how those settings would help in the scenario I suggested ?
