Hmmm ... I will give it a shot. I'm located in Norway and it is so so with parts. Tried Roland for parts a few years ago, end ended up on a long windy telephone trip which ended at some service subcontractor with nothing to offer.

Synth mixer is a good idea. I have a bunch of MIDI modules, and I picked up from the manual that it is possible to adjust the delay on incoming signals. If this works how I think, it would be possible to synchronize for super tightness across all devices (Disregarding possible MIDI jitter on the MIDI inn channels). Mine came well kept in a flight case with meter bridge, and 3 x optical ADAT cards. Only damage is one broken rotary encoder. Guess I can find a replacement on ebay. Thanks for the tips about fader lube, I will look into it and start out with one fader and see how it goes.

I just got myself an Yamaha 02R mixer, firmware rev. 1.x. Beautiful looking thing with fan less design. Wonder if anybody has any opinions of the usability of it these days. Any tips ? I also got hold of the Visualizer SW for it, for editing and remote control of the mixer. Look like this need Win95/NT to operate unfortunately. Wondering if if would be worth trying to get hold of the TC Unity card, as well as upgrading the firmware to 2.x. ? Is anybody aware of some trick to smooth up the movement of the faders ? They feel a bit rusty. Mixer been stored away in someones attic for "awhile".

Thanks Gary. It is a bit muddy ... I'm struggling a bit with the conflict between a (intentionally) distorted vocal track and the guitar. Tried different things, but have not yet manage to make the vocal more legible without killing to much of the sound of the guitar. In addition I've ended up with a double mastering on BandLab ... had my own done ... then added the one provided by BandLab to lift the volume. Might drop the latter and just go for my own for clarity. Thank you very much for you opinion ... it's very helpful to have a honest impression ... gives me some focus as to what to work on. - Sven

I've been satisfied with my Samsung 250 EVOs for a number of years. No problems what so ever, and the SMART readings still look good on the oldest (3-4 years old). With this latest radical drops in the price level I'm considering upgrading to a 1 TB drive. Using mainly a Lenovo X220 system and wondering if anybody knows if there is some kind of limitation in the size of drives that can be put into an "older" laptops like that ? Seen some net talk about some 500 GB limit ... but didn't quite get it.

One option would be to go retro tech, the Roland M-12E 12-Channel Line Mixer seems to suit your needs. 2U hight. There is also a M-16 something in 4 U size with sliding faders and 16 mono channels. I've avoided mouses/track pads for the last 20 years, and been using a combination of trackball / track pin (IBM/Lenovo style) instead. No problems so far.

Just a note. I ran into trouble with my previous 32-bit Sonars when installing the x64 Version. It was a fairly simple fix. But just to know, 32- and x64 bit versions don't happily co-exist on the same system. IIRC something about file paths getting confused and some quick registry/settings fix.

I would say I prefer the convenience of Software- vs Hardware Midi modules. However I still use HW MIDI modules as there is a lack of Software modules alternatives, or alternative that sound the same. A FM7 just doesn't sound the same as a DX7 etc. There is not even alternatives, say for a D-10 or a FB-01 that I am aware of. Just to comment on your points 2 & 3, unless it is a ROMpler ... these MIDI (digital) modules are small dedicated standalone computer which computes the sound ... similarly to what any VST synth is doing.

To me it seems there is a problem in the lower end of the mix. Bass is rumbly, drowning out other stuff. Also missing the Kick. Would Clean up the bass with EQ'ing, and sidechain the Kick to the Bass for presence.

I was able to check out a bunch of Sonar 3 *.cwp projects in one of the recent x64 versions of CbB. Only problem was missing plugins. Haven't looked to hard on it, but guess there would be a way of sorting that problem out. Sonar 3/4 was 32-bit, and CbB is x64 bit only. Maybe the quickest way would be to install Sonar 3/4 and the 32-bit version of Sonar X3. That way the problem with missing 32-bit plugs maybe solved.

Great song. Good lyrics. Liked it a lot. But I sense somethings wrong with it, without being able to put my finger on it. Some how sound slightly out of tune/harmony throughout. Maybe it is what Johnbee58 points to, I can't tell.

I think this is the basis for the multi band compressor in Fruity Loops, although with a different skin/interface. Has a distinct sound, long out of development ... maybe JBridge could be helpful in running it. Not using it myself in CbB.

I might mention that also Fruity Loops uses C5 as middle C, so there is no universal agreement as to what middle C should be.

I'm working on getting a much older device working (Yamaha AW1600) with Cakewalk, and I'm not familiar with the BR-800. From what I briefly read about it, it's is usable as combined control surface and sound card. I see all communication goes via USB, so I would make sure (which you probably already have done) that the driver for USB MIDI is installed (for use as control surface), as well as a separate driver (ASIO ?) for the sound part. I guess the sound part is the easiest, where as the control surface part is more complicated to get to work.

The Sound craft boards looks very nice. I particularly like what I read about the Signature MTK line. Something to think about for the future. Seems very convenient.

Thanks. Valuable advise. I've always been careful around Phantom power, I have a Digigram soundcard with XLR connectors ... but phantom power on them will be the death of it. I think I will just put Silicon over the Phantom power switch. I see there is just one tiny switch on on the back of the AW16G, and two tiny switches on the back for the AW1600. Thanks for the tip about silicon. Pretty good solution to avoid potential problems. Ohhh 24 Channel Soundcraft board Dreaming of getting hold of on of those some day, unfortunately I think wify will kill me if I get one. Used one for a mixdown once, can't quite recall the model ... F1 ? or something ... paired with a 24 track tape recorder. Remember it had some beautiful sounding PEQ's.

Thanks. This works well, and makes the USB ports recognizable in CbB. Managed to get the transport controls to work for CbB partially, although there was some sluggishness in response time. Need to investigate more the configurations of both CbB and the AW1600. But yeah, it rolls
