This is my non-developer take on developing (innovative) software:

    • you think of a million things you can improve from the status quo, and
    • create an innovating product that impresses people and makes them think "how innovative, if this is v1, imagine v6!!"
    • however, every new version becomes more complex and, adding to the complexity, it has to be compatible with previous versions
      • in the case of Reaper this is probably worse since there's an ecosystem of 3rd-party extensions
    • by the time v5 comes along people are "blah, what else is new.... uh! look! that other developer created a truly innovative daw, if this is v1, imagine v6!!"
    • however, every new version.... blah blah blah

I didn't get where you were going with this, sorry.

Anyway, skinning is so easy to do in Reaper, and if I was more into it, I would probably end up with a skin that looked like some Acustica Audio plugins (which look amazing) without breaking functionality.
Studio 1, Cakewalk (there's an amazing Reaper skin that looks like it), Pro Tools look way better than Reaper.
There's a Reaper skin I love but it's so dark I can't use it everyday (JRENG's Metric). But it shows a labor of love.
New Reaper skin (version 7) shows an improvement over version 6 but still feels lazy.

But then I open Logic Pro and feel right at home.

There are zillions of opinions and probably they are all right.
Taste and needs and what not lead you one way or another.

Why would the US version be special ?

Ok, I really didn't want to link to another site, but I think this begs for it, so here it is:

    https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/review-apple-vs-google-usb-c-headphone-adapters.5541/post-1499512

Number is printed on the cable, the one you want is A2049 (very small hard to read, I used my iPhone's flashlight).

Just listening to this song from Billie Eilish (all the good girls go to hell, sorry, Finneas is awesome at his job, what can I do!), everything is just sooo well presented, almost in a kind of dry way, but I firmly believe this is the way it was mixed and mastered, to allow the room where the speakers do their job. Words like ignite which have a lot of quirks when recorded, you can hear it all clearly (super fan of vocals in general), or Sight, you can hear clearly the ending T, she doesn't ignore it, everything is there!

I hear kicks having this reverb or delay or both, it's so weird to me, lol, for me it was always if I added these things to a kick, they swallow the whole frequency spectrum to do any more mixing. I was so far from the truth.

This other song... Freedom Nature (on the Meinl official Youtube channel) used to sound a little bit too bright, but now everything sounds so... balanced.. FIRST time I noticed the bass is actually from a synth, not an electric bass, so revealing to me... riffs and melodies so very well delineated, without breaking the mix!

Mary Mary from the Stigmata movie... there is this guitar, used to sound way harsh... now it's just right...

Electric guitars in general sound very very good, not harsh. These 2 Pantera songs fave of mine: Walk and Mouth for War, sound just right (take it with a grain of salt, some recordings are way too old).

.It feels as if acoustic ones were recorded by me (not kidding, I mean by this recorded properly).

I am fascinated with this thing.

Thanks for the heads up! Gonna have to check it out. Also gonna have to eat my words if Steve Jobs was right about taking the headphone jack out of the phone...

Yeah, for some reason I forgot the dongle existed. Then I saw as a Youtube suggestion, if I remember correctly, Crinacle guy "You don't NEED an AMP"
And then the rabbit hole started all over again, except this time I found a solution right away.
ASR has a review on it.

I use a Silicon Mac, and even the headphone output on it is not of my taste, and the dongle has more output and sounds way better.

The best way I can explain it is that: DRUMS sound like them. Finally I have a proper punchy sound, but not overpowering. Hard to explain as what I say is not the whole picture.
The bass is never hidden (except usual masking circumstances, I guess, nothing we can do about it).
The low frequencies and mids have this tactile characteristic, hard to express, because I know you cannot touch sound, but if you play a string instrument, it sounds as if you are touching the string before plucking it, I know I know it sounds ***** my explanation, but I swear by it.
Even if the bass has a muffled tone (as in the tone knob of the bass fully closed), it can be heard just perfectly.
As in all sounds perfectly separated, but without losing the glue.
I can understand finally the lyrics more acurately, usually I don't understand what the singer is blabbing out, lol.
Sounds better than my Motu M4 output too. Has more power too. (The Motu gives me a hard time driving my HD820 headphones, but not gonna say the output is trash).
All in all I think I won't ever buy another RME product, and focus on just getting if needed a new set of speakers and a different pair of headphones, but right now I am super content with what I got.
I feel this dongle gave me the solid foundation I was looking for so I can compare the rest.
And this cancels all my previous reviews of anything, as it was based on using the Rme DAC (which sounds and no bass no punch in comparison to the Apple dongle).
I will probably like Superior Drums 3 for the very first time.

Believe it or not, loooots of wasted time and experimentation and research went in to achieving this goal, super weird a 10 bucks dongle is the GOAT.

(Can't test my passive speakers, either I don't have the proper cable or I need to read more the ASR thread about what do I need to test it with speakers, I fear I need active speakers for it to work).

But that's not even their best offer. I've got 24 of those plugins that are in the $29 list and have paid roughly $6.50 per plugin in average.

It's best to wait for their Megasales, make use of dynamic discounts with 6 or more products, wait for their no-minimum spend vouchers.

    Thanks for the heads up.

I still don't buy stuff anymore, I come here for the community and free stuff.

Right now I just got an Apple dongle and omg... it is the best DAC ever in the universe, and I am enjoying music soooo much (only goes up to 48 kHz 24 bits, but if you believe in science that's all you need, I guess)
It's like stuff sound the way it's supposed to (and mixed/mastered).
My plan is to sell my ADI-2 DAC (RME) and get 100 of these (there are 2 versions, one US and another EU, US is the one to beat).
Keep my Motu M4 for recording stuff (Logic Pro allows me to use both devices at the same time).
Also, weird that they give enough signal to my HD820 headphones, which... ended up sounding just perfect probably/arguably, but only this dongle revelead that...

Also weird that... on Windows still sound is very bad. This dongle and my DAC sound louder for some reason, at the same time a little bit thinner and harsh...
I read somewhere that there are certain protocols within the system between Windows, Android and MacOS that makes it have this behavior, idk if there is a fix to that, so, again, I am sticking to Mac for the time being.

Can't wait to try it with speakers.

I know, random comment, but wanted to mention it to someone, lol (usual friends don't know about this sht).

Just typed this to leave for prosperity. 🎼

I think White Tie doesn't have the talent to make something amazing. All of the suggestions people made about the new theme were simply brushed off repeatedly and we were told that he would simply do wha he wants. I said that his attitude was unacceptable towards paying customers and that any decent company would fire an employee like that. He proceded to delete my posts (he's the forum moderator). So yeah, Reaper is a company run by a guy who has NO aesthetic or moral sensibilities to see that the guy he hired is a talentless tyrant. I now use Bitwig.

    Totally agree. 🕶️

  6. I said don't get me wrong, omg! lol. Reaper is great, I said that!

I can count with one hand 3rd party proper skins.

Using Logic Pro right now, which among other things allows me to select a DIFFERENT interface for input and output.
And doesn't remove my selected TRANSPORT area when I click anywhere on the interface like Reaper, among other things. 😇

  7. Having used it since version 3, I think, and it still feels like a toy (because of the interface, Reaper is great, don't get me wrong).

Haven't check out the new version but I bet I am going to be disappointed again, and again...

    That's my (whiny) take, lol.

EDIT: Yeah more of the same, White Tie wouldn't take risks to make something amazing...

  8. No no no, just no.

Tabs and musical notation, they are just the same.

They just tell you what is being played in a song.

Copyrighting that is just plain corruption leading to lawyers and corporations make money out of defenseless people...

And if people are so dense to get that:

The simple piano riff by Tegan and Sara song Back in your head: I tab that, upload it to Ultimatetab.com and I get molested by lawyers and sued because of copyright infringement?

Or the guitar riff of 7 Nation Army? That's a hymn out of itself, adopted to be sung all around the world: I upload it to Ultimatetab.com just to receive the same corporate treatment? Because I mention how it should be played 100% corrctly by his genious creator, finger by finger,  meticulously?

Those riffs or a complete Petrucci long ***** solo or a complete song is just the same. Or a complete orchestra concert by 10000 instrumentalists.

Honest humanity in the US is just so decadent in some ways... (I mention the US because I bet those smart tards, yes, an oxymoron, came up with this great idea).

I am gonna pop a vein or two, lol.

  9. I finally installed latest version, man, the Studio view and added amps is/are awesome.

I was waiting for them to add any Mesa Boogie, and to my surprise they added a Dual Recto.

For FREE (Marshall Suite is awesome yoo, free too if you have certain Marshall ones already).

I hope they add to the Parametric EQ *also new*, the ability to change Q rating using a modifier key (let's say ALT or Shift or Control).
