Rex,
This gentle track exudes warmth. I like that. A light touch on every note, played or sung.
Very unique sound you have here.

Hey Bert . . . I was confused at first, played the Soundcloud version, then I noticed your newer mix was on the Soundclick link. Anyways, heard them both, and the newer Soundclick version is a way improved mix version ! I always loved this classic song, and you've certainly done it justice. It's much more polished this time around, glad you fixed the snare, and I think the vocals are balanced better too . . . etc Thanks for posting the new version here, it was interesting to compare the old and new, enjoyed listening to it very much . . . LOL, I was singing this driving in traffic the other day, but couldn't exactly remember the correct lyrics.
Thanks for listening to both versions and giving me your take, Noy. I thought all the crits I got with the first version were good and I tried to fix them. Yeah, I did bring up the vocal a bit, hopefully without losing the drive of the instrumental section.
Thanks,
Bert

Nigel,
WOW Strong. professional video and track. I didn't find anything offensive about the vid.
The only crit I have is that the vocal gets drowned out here and there by the instrumental and I couldn't follow the lyrics.
Great stuff overall.
Cheers.

Nice job .. I see a sleazy little night club, a blue smokey view to your stage performance .... " Another bourbon waiter " ....
Steve
That is exactly what I had in mind : a version you might hear late at night in a blues club, Lotsa smoking and drinking, etc.
Thanks for listening.,

This is brilliant, Bert. Is that you in all the voices? You did a good job of making them sound diverse. This is the kind of stuff I listened to growing up. I know the goal was dry, but just a little room ambience on the lead vox would give the recording more depth, like you did with tupelo to memphis (which is also great btw).
David,
Thank you ever so much for your kind words.
I was kind of fooling around with vocal processing chains and such. and it it does sound like a different lead singer on the chorus than on the verses. I am glad to hear that you think it worked. I gave the vocals only a whiff of reverb, but I will consider your suggestion when I remix/remaster and repost.
And thanks for the props for From Tupelo to Memphis. I recorded that one almost twenty years ago in a studio, and I've shopped it anywhere and everywhere and no interest. Go figure, it sounds like a hit to me. Good thing I have a day job.

I think you've done a terrific job on this cover! I like it as is because it sounds genuine and heart-felt. I'm going back for another listen.
Lynn,
Thank you very much for your kind words.
And thanks for noticing the vocal delivery. Lately I've been trying to sing more expressively. This song resonates with me and I think you can hear that.
(pro tip : vocal performance was facilitated by a few freezer shots of Bulleit 95 Rye between takes)

Very good tune and performance. Nice kaleidoscopic about London sights and sounds.
Yes, the lyrics are hard to hear at times.

JMO but the backing vocal seem a tad too loud (about a db). That's all I got.
Nice cover.
Thanks for the listen, Baps. I think you are right. I'll remix soon and repost.

Hi Marcello.
I am trying to learn about mastering my self, so my comments aren't necessarily valid by any stretch. And I've never tried to mix/master a beast like you have, here.
Cool instrumental, in any case.
But the track overall sounds over compressed. I would like to take GTR's down a notch and up the levels of the drums, which sound muffled.
My 2 cents.
Cheers.

My mixing, mastering, and vocal processing ears are worn out at this point. Any comments and/or observations about those aspects of this project will be appreciated.

Cool instrumental. I love the tone and effects on your guitar. The rythm section sounds good with a good bass line. The drums could stand to mix it up a bit.
You be jammin' good, mon.

Fun ride, here. You definitely nailed that 80's techno beat.
As for mixing and mastering, I have been watching the Creative Sauce series on YouTube and 'Mike' explains in detail how to do a recording project from start to finish on Cakewalk.

Bjorn,
Funny thing- it never occurred to me to copy the original. I definitely was interested in putting my spin on this great tune. A good song can be interpreted a lot of different ways.
And thanks for your specific comments about vocal processing- I will have them in mind when I remix/remaster.
Cheers,
Bert
