  1. The whole thing is going to be pretty simple for me. I look for the best solutions for my music creation needs. I already have pretty much anything I need to do what I need to do. Anything else is an excuse to buy something that I think might fit something I'm doing better. I often buy on the "might" line of thinking only to find out it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. I guess Komplete is a value to some IF you have a need for those libraries. Others are buying libraries like Metropolis that cost more than Komplete on sale from NI. I seem to be finding alternatives lately that fill all my gaps nicely. I mean, I really like the new acoustic guitar in the most recent Komplete . I realized the acoustic guitars in ST4MAX are pretty nice....so no real need to update Komplete based only on that. That's the way things have gone for me the last few years and the reason why I can't yet justify updating Komplete. I'll probably do it on a sale eventually if the scale for some reason would tip the other direction. Most anything you would need tough can often be bought 3rd party for less and often it sounds as good or better. Many of the sounds included in Komplete weren't developed by NI. Just sayin' At that point it just becomes more about updating the Kontakt shell so I can keep playing my 3rd party stuff. I am guilty of becoming Kontakt dependent when in many cases I could have used something else that would have been just as stable and worked just as well. I am seeing that more and more lately.
  2. I believe Emeraldsoul has been around here for a little while, so you may be well aware of this. Jim has been the popular builder around here for a long as I can remember. This is for good reason. Jim doesn't just order parts, put computers together and call himself a builder. He is primarily a DAW builder and he knows what he is doing. Though I build my own computers, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone looking for a PC DAW build. There are a long line of very contented customers here. Jim doesn't overtly advertise. Check his sig if you're looking for a computer set up for DAW work. I don't think I've ever seen Jim push his services here, but everyone knows about him as one of the very best. He has built for some pretty important clients.
  3. Safety and proven performance/stability Intel.....live on the wild side? AMD. With AMD I feel like its a potential gamble. Many have gambled and won. Some have gambled and lost. AMD continues to gain traction. Pros and cons. If I were making smaller mixes with not a lot of I/O ( usb ) as many home studios do. If I wasn't making music for pay on that computer. If the build had been proven elsewhere with only minor bumps in the road I might just jump. I usually go with Intel because it just works 99% of the time. That sounds like what I hear lots of dedicated Mac people say. I guess it's a level of assurance. Not a guarantee. Lots of people touting AMD online aren't using them as DAW hosts. In many cases it has more to do with the fine print. It does this and that and that very well. It might be faster HOWEVER................there's this one little thing you should know first.
  4. I can imagine it, I just don't want to think about what's going to happen afterwards.😨
  5. I believe all of that hard work has payed off! This would be perfectly content to sit in many documentaries. It has all of the energy needed to bring the video into a better place. My only small nit would be it was a hint too low in volume overall. I know you don't traditionally mix this sort of music at the volume you would mix say , a rock track. Some of it might be the quality of the mp3 after upload. I'm sure the wav file sounds slightly different. I don't hear it as extremely low. Just maybe a few db. I'm thinking you really want it to pop when the video comes on. If you could get it in surround even better.
  6. I can't say that I have ever heard anything like this before concerning Amelia Earhart. For that matter, not sure any music exists about her specifically other than this. I like the jangly retro feeling this gave me and wasn't really too concerned about the delay within the context of the song but that's me and we are all different. I think the lyrics are nicely done as is the whole thing. Thanks for sharing!
  7. Great mix and talent! Conrats! Testament that Cakewalk ITB has a LOT of potential in the right hands.
  8. This is excellent mixing work. Great cover tune. I like your detailed descriptions on the mix. I find it most helpful. Thanks for sharing!
  9. This was fantabulous! Two thumbs up I would give it three but......

Douglas. Many thanks for listening and comments. This was a one nite wonder. Not sure how much of a "wonder" it is A two hour mix from start to finish. Whiskey and a cigar? The whiskey - I'm all over that in small quantities. I wasn't originally going for that vibe, but I have to agree. I feel it would fit in that setting perfectly. Wookie- Thanks for listening. Yes the start/stop part is annoying. Not sure if Orfium will let me replace a file like Soundcloud will. -Deeringamps- Durnit I should remember your real name by now. Thanks for listening and commenting! I plan to pull that track and extend the into/extro. I think the service clipped my tails at the end. I'm glad you brought this up. I'll see if I can get back with a better track. The ping pong is one of the few baked in things so unfortunately I doubt I'll have much luck in removing it. lol! I'll add another one so you have a little more time before you go on.

A little jazz thing I made playing around in the studio. Comments welcome. https://www.orfium.com/track/1274106/smooth-j-starise/
  12. I was also one of those who took days to download ST4MAX. I felt some of that same frustration. I also felt something else.....anticipation. The wait made me want to try it out that much more. It was a great feeling to finally have it all loaded up and working....sort of like climbing Everest. I was extremely happy when they announced this new Programs management portal, page, whatever you want to call it. Even though at this point it will only benefit someone else because I have already downloaded all of the "big stuff". Unless they come out with another 300gb library I doubt I'll see the full benefit. Admittedly for updates and upgrades it's probably going to be the cat's pajamas. I guess I feel slightly differently about the 10$ thing. Since software is in continual transition, hard drives fail, servers need to be maintained etc.etc. I'm willing to pay it if in 10 years I loose everything and need to retrieve it. For me this is a small price to pay. OTOH If I closely missed the deadline window for download by only a few days.....yeah, that would burn me. I also understand that if one exception is made, other exceptions need to be made and pretty soon people are pooping all over me. If the 10.00 starts to creep up though to 20.00, then 40.00. That one REALLY wouldn't sit well. If it goes to 12.50 in 10 years to cover inflation that's ok. I think we had a 60 day window? I forget now. I believe it was at least 60 days, might have been more. I have all of my libraries copied on a 2nd hard drive. This might seem smart but really the HDD cost me more than a 10.00 download fee would have. What I think I dislike the most so far is the dancing around on this whole thing regarding the status of it. We went from " It works great" to "It's working for most" to " It's working for a few" to " There's a work around" to "The work around only works for a few" to .....what's next here? I haven't recently tried it, but a few days ago it was dead in the water for me. Not that I'm bothered either way. Life goes on.
  13. I like sales or I wouldn't be here ;)..well ok, Truth be told I would still pop in to read the comments .Coming to the deals forum is about as much of a habit as putting pants on in the morning. Yes I'm pretty consistent about that ( believe it or not). Native Instruments likely isn't going anywhere. I do see them loosing more and more market share. Who would have imagined the world we now live in 1 year ago? Anything is possible. Not likely. For old timers, remember Sears and Pennys? They were once THE deal for shoppers. Now you can't find them. Look at all of the activity in the last 10 years in the DAW /plugins world. As more and more makers adopt either their own instrument platforms which contrary to some views isn't next to impossible and it isn't financially unfeasible. See exhibit A.-Have you seen anyone who adopted their own platform ever say anything like, " Wow, we were big dummies. Should not have left our Kontakt sugar daddy". No- they don't. Why? They are making more money AND it feels good to be free from Kontakt tyranny Yes, I'll keep Kontakt, and UVI, and Sampletank and ENGINE....and whatever else works and has the libs I like.
  14. Using Ozone- This is version 8 tho- Easy Peasy

Has that layed back country feel to it. Instrumentally straight forward and well done! Good vocal harmony. Thanks for sharing!
  18. I notice from listening to much of your other material that you and your wife make a great team. I could hear her maybe singing some kind of reply or response to the existing lyrics. Even without her singing it's a nice thoughtful tune with a nice positive message well written and recorded!
  19. No I don't think you are. You seem to have mastering down for online pretty well. I listened to some of your tracks. I agree with the idea that LUFS can protect hearing too. Whatever the site uses as a measure is mainly a way to balance all audio within a reasonable sonic space so one track isn't blaring loud as compared to another track. LUFS makes things more consistent. I like that and it assures we won't accidentally become deaf because someone uploaded an extra loud track as compared to the others. If there is competition ....no make that yes there is still competition to at least be in the same ball park as others in the genre as Andrew Sheps mentions in the video. This means we have a much smaller window to play in, be loud enough, and be within specs of the site db reductions. It's still a window that can be adjusted in other ways like perceived loudness as compared to actual loudness. If I hear him correctly what he's saying is he doesn't adopt any one standard as his bible. He mixes to the genre and music, then compares different methods. This is pretty much what I do too although probably not as well I don't mix in acoustically aggressive genres like Metal and EDM so for me it isn't as much of a thing concerning loudness. I'm more about dynamics and as a result my tracks often have the kid gloves on. I'm ok with that. My main point was anything can be gotten around. Our hearing safety is still up to us. Once we begin streaming a track we still have a volume control.
  20. I was using the K-system. The issue with it is mainly the need to make sure everything is calibrated . I tend to start out with the good old fashioned RMS/peaks and work backwards in looking at the standards. Audio amplification hasn't changed drastically with respect to amplifiers and how the sound is distributed. There are no stickers on sound systems " This amplifier has been approved by the LUFs committee" The main reasons for all of this are for online distribution. Different streaming services will treat your tracks slightly different. They will ALL apply some kind of control to over zealous tracks that are too hot. So it comes down to either we do it more intelligently or they will do it for you. I am usually tickling the limits of LUFS metering sometimes exceeding it. Yes "they" are probably limiting it some on upload but not enough to be noticed so far. Another misconception is that these standards protect your hearing. This is only partially true. You still have a volume control and it's up to you how loud you turn it up. Andrew isn't the first engineer I have heard say they are sometimes beyond measured limits slightly. Shooting past a LUFs setting doesn't necessarily mean you're clipping. Two different things
  21. The Komplete sales model hasn't given me much incentive to update since version 10 . I value Kontakt the most since I'm free to choose libraries from either them or 3rd party libraries using it. I am noticing more and more companies making their own VST plugins and breaking away from Kontakt. As I have said about the vst standard, I think the same applies here. Both come from German companies who while independent license selling entities , promote and allow their standards to be used by 3rd parties. At this time, either the more expensive route as in paying for a title on the main list page or the less expensive route, writing a sample library that isn't in their company browser. I think a lot depends on the next generation of engineers/musicians. Will they keep blindly following a corporate behemoth or will they be buying more into the independents who are breaking away from Native Instruments? Unlike the vst standard, there is plenty of active competition. Lots more than a handful of choices. It can be done. It has been done. Just not in a universal way. Similar to vst standard, if the industry could adopt a universal open source standard in both sample players and as a substitute for VST/AAX/AU , I think the market could open up. More money would go to developers. To be fair a fee should be paid to the developers of this standard to continue to support it across all platforms. The trade off is it would not be a corporate entity but a non profit whose only interest is to keep the standard working well in all DAWs. Most people working with DAWs are users and not in any way developers. They don't care how it works so long as it works. They probably don't think about the hidden fees they pay every time they buy a library. The main benefit here is to the developers who save money on fees and don't need to develop as much for a continually moving target that isn't always backwards compatible. While I like Kontakt...If you gave me a similar universal option that didn't tie me to Native instruments which could also run any library I wanted to buy for it, it would be bye bye Kontakt.
  22. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^This. Same experiences here. It isn't entirely fixed yet.
  23. I understand development woes. I am excited about the eventual fix on this. I was one of those who took two days to download ST4 MAX off and on. This should help those kinds of issues a LOT. I thought maybe I would get lucky with the new setup. Same issues as you guys. Not quite sure what happened. I really appreciate the intentions of IK to make the process better, but yeah it might be a good idea to put an "under construction due to unforeseen circumstances" on the site and halt further downloads. None of my products actually updated. All of them said they did. I tried rebooting after installation, reinstalling. Nothing worked. I advise don't attempt to download it until we hear they have this cleared up. JMHO.
  24. There seem to be a lot of cracks in that stonework.
