    Fragile

Hi bmarlowe, Thank you for listening and for your feedback. My EBO is wonderful but needs some work. Meanwhile I started using vst bass and meanwhile I started liking using vst bass. With the EBO I would have to spend time in Melodyne fixing intonations and it has such a dark sound that I love playing and feeling, but can be hard to brighten it up in a song. I am surprised how much I go to the SI bass vs some of the other bass vst I have but like you I think it sounds great to my ears. I usually put bass professor II on my bass track to bring in some highs as I usually start liking something very low. Thanks for describing how you responded to the song as you began listening. I wanted to do an interesting beginning for this one and its good to know it hooked you in. I appreciate your comment!

Hi Bruce, thank you for listening and your very much appreciated comment ! I have written a lot of poetry in my life so sometimes that seeps into lyrics I think. I'm glad to know you appreciated the lyrics as well as the other things you enjoyed about the song. I do like a beat even when the subject matter might not be equally bouncy. I am encouraged by your calling it fabulous and all the other affirming descriptive things you said! Thank you again
  3. Yes relaxing and pleasant experiment with 2 parts. I like the way you have the drums/percussives distant in the mix and panning around. Maybe not too ridiculous, life-afterlife-former life some who believe in reincarnation can relate to that sequence. Happy New Year to you too
  4. Unique as usual, some interesting chord changes, catchy bassline and melodies on the synth. An age old question you have there.
  5. From the title I was expecting something more spacey/ambient and enjoyed your creation from your friends suggestion. My favorite instruments are electric guitar and bass and enjoyed the playing of both in your song. I would have been tempted to mix them a little louder so they stand out more, but the song is very good as is. If you decide to add tabla I agree that would add another enjoyable dimension. I wonder what instruments you used if you feel like posting about that. Good job, and you have some other interesting songs posted too.

Sounds good, thanks for listing what you used, I always appreciate that. The mix is good and clean, I like that the bass is prominent. Enjoyed it !

    Computer Age

Wishing you a prosperous and creative 2024 back ! What a great and timely song. I just heard a show about how many jobs will be displaced by AI, but then new jobs will be created too. The song really kept me interested all the way, I especially enjoyed your confident, well done vocals.
  8. Welcome to the song forum and Happy New Year to you too ! I enjoyed the song, nice work. A tiny critique from my listening is that sometimes the bassline got slightly lost in the piano and I like the bassline a lot so just a small mention. The mix is very good, good vocals and good song
  9. Fabulous work guys! Some great imagery to enhance the great song

Hi Mike, thank you for listening and I appreciate your comment very much. I too was intrigued by how the bass turned out and I think its my favorite part of the song. I chuckled at you not knowing where we were going, ty for coming along. Nice to know you think its a well done interesting song, very encouraging feedback. Happy new year

Hi Ross, thank you for listening and your comment I am grateful! It’s encouraging to get positive feedback that lets me know I’m doing a nice job.
  12. I expected from the title it would be a christmas song, just kidding.... another unique and interesting piece from you. You raise a lot of good questions about how people develop their feelings about themselves which when negative are very difficult. You are not alone in having picked up self-negativity if the song is biographical. I cant change my own oil either. My christmas decorations are 1 small fake cactus with a few bulbs that don't light up. I wish for all of us that have broken parts that we would find the answer to your question about how to find healing. Meanwhile, we make music.
  13. Talk about from the heart, this is deep ! I really love the song. The words and imagery are wonderful, very poetic yet realistic too. Your words really painted the picture. Some very creative descriptions regarding light and shadows and their interplays. I love the guitar playing. The mood is strong. A few times I had trouble following the drum pattern when it was more creative, likely due to my simpleness around drum parts. Enjoyed it a lot ! happy holidays

    Fragile

Hello FreeEarCandy ! Fortunately I feel a bit fragile only some of the time ha. I do feel support from the forum which is great! Thank you for your comment, and yes my heart is often involved in what I create and yes the most meaningful times. I will check 1:15 for a glitch and as you say I also do appreciate the fresh ears and post here to get clarity if I lost mine. I am always trying to learn new things and try new things, which is why songs can take me so long as I experiment and study. So glad for your catch up message and that you loved Fragile and hear positive evolution in my work! Happy holidays to you !

hi ms, thanks for the supportive message! I agree that @jack c. is very authentic and appreciate that about his songs. I might sometimes feel shy again in the future but with such kindness I will again overcome my reluctance! happy holidays

    Good

Very thoughtful of you to make this song to encourage and support your brother in his grief! I know what you mean about comparing 2023 vocals to 80s vocals, same for me. I think you really captured the supportive kinda sad but lets get upbeat mood of the message in the song. I like the solo section. Hearing a reggae version would have been fun ha but this does do it well. Anyways, enjoyed it and I hope your brother did/does too. (I get it. My son lost his dog Rambo (a yorkie ha) on my birthday 6 years ago so when he calls me on my birthday its touched by Rambo's death. But his birthday was when I got the call to mandatory evacuate for an encroaching wildfire so we both have birthday phonecalls with less pleasant memories !) Happy holidays
  17. Very sweet. I don't know the original song or the film so listening with no background. The song moves me as very sincere and kinda sad but lovely in mood, delivery and instrumentation. I live under Arizona skies and they are the most stunning at night and on days when we have clouds against the blue the skies are amazing. So nice imagery there for me and a sweet song ! happy holidays

    Unsung Hero

Very nice ! I like the topic a lot and the warm feeling listening to a story about such a kind person. I agree with Steve that some strings or pad maybe would be a nice underlying layer for all the other nice things, but really its great as is, happy holidays !

Hi Steve, thanks for listening and your comment. Thanks for appreciating the lyrics, it's one of those songs that I wonder if I should really post so it's great to know you think they are wonderful ! I don't think I sing very melodically by nature and really don't even think of myself of a singer at all ha. Hmmm, what a great idea to make a mix too thin to feel it along with the fragile theme, but the only place I wanted to be thin was the very ending phrase with the wind. Thanks for the thumbs up good work feedback too, very encouraging. HO and happy holidays back at ya !

Hi Lynn, thanks so much for listening and your feedback. And that you listened several times on different days, that's very much appreciated! I know I would feel differently about it on different days myself. I do struggle the most with my vocals every time and spend a lot of time on them. Between getting older, pollen allergies and very frequent wildfire smoke here in AZ my goal is to sing best I can and not hate it! So out of curiosity, I just looked at how nectar vocal assistant had eq'd the lead vocal. There are 2- EQ1 and EQ2 and 120 300 340 and 740 are all reduced a bit. I also used Hornet thirtyoneMK2 on a quite low volume lead vocal track and that took out all below 63 and then some reductions at every band up to 800. So I think you make a good point about my voice and I will definitely be mindful of this next time. I'm glad to know you found unexpected moments of interest. Thanks again and happy holidays

Hi Mark, Thank you for listening and your comment. The ending kinda whispered itself....I appreciate you sharing that fragile is not a unique feeling more of a shared human feeling from time to time. Nice to have company! I sometimes half-shy away from posting a song like this one but always want technical/other feedback and often get wonderful encouraging comments like yours. As for the lovely delays, I used Sound Particles Energy Panner that I really love on the backing vocals bus and Valhalla Supermassive on the horn bus, Nectar added reverb on my lead vocals, but since you say outside the mix I'm guessing the energy panner. Thanks again and happy holidays PS I did want to add when I first started writing songs I first write about political, social, environmental issues so not surprising you are feeling some protest in here. I was inspired by reggae rather than the folk song type of protest songs as I have never really connected with folk music.

    THE WITCH

Excellent! really enjoyed it, very strong mood capturing what you intended
  23. Hi Kevin, so this is the first listen for me after the changes you describe. I really like the song and think it is very good as is. When I lived on Long Island NY I was pretty close to a town called Babylon ha. Anyways, the song has a great feeling. I like the vocals a lot. A few places when a word starts with a consonant I would fade that in or melodyne it that depending. A few times its harsh/distorty to me. During the instrumental section, the guitars seem slightly too loud to me like blocking the understuff. I love the guitars. And you say you are working on the bass drum mix, to me the drums are good and I would have the bass more prominent. But overall really enjoyed it in many ways so just some minor thing comments. And a little trip back to long island...

    It Seems To Me

Hi John, I have very much appreciated and enjoyed your instructional videos and comments on the forum posts so wanted to check out your song. I think it turned out very well. I have some ancient recordings too with long distant former collaborators so this is inspiring.
  25. unique and interesting as usual. like the chord changes and moods. Im never sure I get all your lyrics but appreciate them.
