Uhhmmm, you want me to by two 44 TB drives at $1, 499.99 each and mirror them???  I think not,  LOL.

My bad - I only saw that it was a large drive; I didn't look at the price. I was just thinking of safe backup strategies.

    3. Upgrade fans: If your fans are old or low-quality, consider upgrading to newer, quieter fans. Look for fans that have a low decibel (dB) rating and a higher airflow rating.

If you're looking for new fans, it's worth giving Noctua a look. The colours might not appeal to some, but I don't see that as a problem as they go inside the case.

This is what I'm planning to do as well but am not sure whether to stick with Intel (given their self‐inflicted woes) or switch to AMD (which is potentially risky since I know so little about their products and don't want to spend a lot of time, money, and effort to build a system and then have to deal with problems arising from them just recently having stolen the 'crown' from Intel).

Don't know if the situation is still the same, but I seem to remember @Jim Roseberry saying that AMDs can be faster, but only for parallel processing, e.g. rendering video. Intel still rules for more single threaded uses like pushing audio through with low latencies. I also seem to remember Jim saying that Intel chips were easier to keep cool, compared to a similar model from AMD.

Larry even beats developers to posting their own deals

Very true. The advantage of Larry posting it rather than the developer though is that the thread gets to stay open because of the advertising rules.

PA plugins are full of cramping and aliasing (among others). (Important note, aliasing can be or probably is inaudible, but that's not the point).

The question is: would you rather pay $29 for a plugin with inaudible aliasing, or $199 for pretty much the same plugin that doesn't have aliasing (but for all intents and purposes acts and sounds the same)? Of course there's always the option of using stock plugins, which are pretty good these days.

If you want to support plugin devs so they buy their new island, that's your prerogative, I guess.

Pretty sure that's not exclusive to plugins. I once heard about a pair of trainers/sneakers that cost 2 figures to manufacture, but sold for 3-to-4 figures because it had a commemorative logo on it. Fashion shoes and sports merchandise also probably fall into this category too. Monster cables? How about an Apple Mac Pro Stand for £949.00? Most updates to sounds are relatively small as I recall over the years. Rarely have they updated the entire soundsets/samples for a expansion.

Ahh... Maybe I misunderstood. I thought Sander meant one button to install all Toontrack products (like the Melda/Kilohearts installers), e.g. for setting up a new DAW - it'd download all of SD3, all of Legacy of Rock, etc.

I’d been an active member on VI control for a couple of years and was amazed what I was reading in ths that read. Posts were being deleted very quickly… I posted in there that I was surprised the thread was still open and people had a choice whether  to engage with 8Dio products or not.

I was subsequently banned…without warning with a message written like a child.

“You have been banned for the following reason: I hate, hate, HATE when people bump a thread with "Is this thread still open?" posts. You do realize you don't HAVE to read or post..”

No rules where broken and yet I was banned on the owners whim…

Wow... I'm guessing they wanted that thread to silently disappear? In any case, a ban is a pretty strong response :(

This is where trying to use Ai voices will struggle, unless you can create a compelling story around your brand that connects with your audience and convince them that using the Ai voice is necessary.

Yes, I agree. I've come to understand that products - not just music - only really sell with a story; this made me realise why all of these products have a my story section where it describes how someone first come up with an idea and then did whatever it is they did: stories sell products because we as people relate with stories.

I would go so far as to say it's the most amazing music program I have found in the last few years and it's just in it's infancy.

I agree. Having a virtual singer sing exactly what you type in is really quite incredible.

The SynthV voices are already realistic enough to fool most casual listeners,  but the voices are going to get more sophisticated, more stylized, and I think they will slowly infiltrate modern music production as a standard tool.

I wonder how that's going to work. Right now, we associate a voice with a certain artist. When different artists start sound the same (because they use the same SynthV [or alternative technology] voice), it's going to be quite strange; I suppose it's no different from artist, featuring vocal artist though.

I also get the feeling that it's going to lead to online debates about real vs. sampled/modelled, like the discussions that already exist about real vs sampled instruments.😒

However, a related pro tip. I once bought one of their bundle packages from, I think it was JRR, and a month later a more expensive package went on sale for less than what I paid. When I contacted them to see if I could pay a little more and get the better package, they just upgraded my individual products to match the other bundle.

I agree - customer support is pretty good from my experience. I once bought a bundle package. They announced a new version a little later along with a grace period. My purchase date was before the grace period began, but only by a few days. I contacted them and they included my purchase within the grace period. They make great products too that I use on all of my mixes.

Let's not forget Izotope's loyalty offers that cry meh.

Yeah... to be fair though, upgrade offers can go pretty low if you wait for the right time and shop at the right place. They're also fairly generous with their upgrade grace periods. They're just not that great if you look at the loyalty coupons when logged in - they even offer to sell me upgrades to products I already have. 🤪

I'm just thankful their DSP coding is better than their loyalty sales detection algorithms.

customer disloyalty practices as Toontrack forcing Superior Drummer 2.0 customers to upgrade within Toontrack's timeline or forever be excluded from receiving upgrade pricing again

I'm slightly surprised (though not that surprised) you didn't mention the more recent announcement from Waves and registering serials.

I own the much less expensive ezDrummer and they never tried the same tactic for that as their flagship product.

I'm not sure it was a sales tactic. It was around that time that they switched from DVD-only-distribution to an online download platform; possibly there was a technical reason behind it.

If I already have the iZotope products, why would I need these?

Maybe speed - if you have project deadlines and don't have time. Maybe also if you'd like a ballpark mix/master to compare against.
