  1. Nice song with a nice vocal.
    Catchy and good lyrics.

    Nice

The only comment I have is for the presenters.
I personally have been a DJ and presenter for many years on TV and radio.
The best advice I was ever given was to be yourself in your voice... not trying to put on a voice..  as you think DJs do etc.
Pick someone out of the audience (or imagine) and talk to them how you would have a normal conversation.

  2. Hi Bob.
Im not much of a rocker myself...  but I enjoy your guitar playing and vocals.
    Good stuff.

You asked of comments..  I hear a few clicks here and there on my system...  maybe be due to clips needing cross fades.. ex.. 0.41 secs right speaker.

  3. Hi Mark very nice and very clever.
    Loved it.

The only thing I would say in my opinion is that the bass was a little boomy on my system.... had to check if my sub was on 🙂
Is there a reverb on there?

  4. A lot of though has gone into this arrangement.
    Well done.

If some form of ambiance/live sound was added it would make it feel more live and I believe it would raise the composition even more.
Thank you for sharing as I really enjoyed it.

  5. I always listen to the track first and then watch the video on the next pass.

Music I got 100% on first listen.  Great and well done on the musical journey.

The video I couldn't really understand how it fitted in with the track but I am sure there must be some reasoning..  but I didn't get it sorry!!!

  6. noynekker  well done and great skills.
I am listening on my Focal TRIO6 BE and the mix is wide and balanced.
Mix  translates well in mono too.
Percussion is great..  (I always struggle with percussion levels myself)
How did you get that marimba so wide?
    Vocal and backing very good.
Very nice lead vocal...  as someone else has said very "George Michael" ish.  Thats a compliment.
Great use of reverb and delay.

We all paint very different pictures when it comes to mixing.
The only thing I would do..  I personally think the bass could give a little more groove..  cant explain what I mean.
Warmer and slight more sustain... little more in level??

When I added my sub..  which I hardly do..  it kicked butt ... so I change my comment above...  more sub level!  🙂
Thats what I was trying to get across......but this is only personal preference.
I listened to the track five times now.. brilliant.
    Quality!!

Listened to all of your other tracks on sound cloud...  This is my favorite one.

Nicely done. Not sure if you are using the ambiance included with the samples, or something on the mix overall?
That's the only thing maybe "lacking" to my ears; a verb/delay that ties the whole orchestra together in one space.
And trust me, I'm still searching for that one "major production" verb myself (or the settings that "nail" it with the many I have).

    Tom

I have altiverb and ultraverb...  if you would like to send the stems..  I could have a go

  8. Nice song Rex and well sung.

    Guitar mix was very clear.
I found the drums to be a little on the flat side.

    well done.

  9. I listened to this again this morning,
    Lots of ear candy.
Great mixing skills and sounds fantastic on my Focal trios.
In fact I turned it up and was jigging away in my room  🙂

Oh man, this is hairs on the back of the neck stuff. Gary that is a drop-dead gorgeous performance - I should think #ProudDad doesn't even come close to the emotions you must feel seeing your kids perform that live - I know I would be in pieces. I loved it: hot, cold, dry or wet - you can serve that to me any way you choose and you'll get no crits from me.

However, do listen to the folks one here who - unlike me - actually know what they're talking about when it comes to mixing. FWIW I listened to the dry and the modified mix and the modd'ed one was definitely a little more balanced to my ears in terms of the ratio of piano to vocal.

    Beautiful stuff

    Andy

    Thanks Andy for the listen.
I always take all of the advice on board and I am very appreciative of it too.
I have learnt so much here over the years.

wowzer Gary - you should be proud - lovely voice and playing.

I agree with Tom, the piano is too hot (listening to dry mix).  The mids are actually painful to listen to and completely eat up all the eq space. Try a big eq scoop and automating the volume on the louder sections

    Thanks Daryl.
How does it sound on the Soundcloud update at the bottom?

Gary, you produce some of the most professional recordings around, and this is no exception.  Not surprisingly, any of those 3 versions would stand and its own.  If you hear a de-essing problem, you have better ears than me, however, reverb might tend to exaggerate a de-essing problem (if you can hear it).  The good news is that talent apparently runs in your family, congratulations!

    HI Lynn.
Thanks for taking the time to listen and for the extremely kind comments.
If you look back on my work a few years ago the improvement has come with feedback from the good members of this forum, so those comments are high praise indeed.
Most of my work has been in "live sound" so the crossover has not been that difficult.

    Once again thank you.
For those who are just starting...  there is a lot of information on here from good and talented people.
Whom mean well and are willing to help you hone this amazing craft.
I myself take all the criticism and suggestions I can take as too get better.

I look forward to watching and hearing how we all develop.

    God Bless,

Welp, I don't think you have a deess problem, I think you have a midrange piano problem. You might volume automate the piano mids down when she is singing. That is a show stopping vocal.

On the piano solo, you can hear the midrange problem, and is the piano compressed a fair bit? You might back off on that to keep the piano more dynamic.

Killer diller!!! Great performance, and the sparse mix is a great choice here.

    cheers,

    -Tom

I have tried to implement your suggestion Tom.
    Thoughts please?
