  1. Changed abit now.
    Asked for the tracks...

I can't do an arrangement as the tempo keeps changing and doesn't match all the way through.
When we record at my place it will be different.
I think I will add to Bandlab and fork it so people can have a go.

    Thoughts..

All comments are appreciated and taken into account.

  2. I think you have done very well  (Im listening to the first song)
I hear sibilance on the vocal...  if you dont have the plugin "smooth" this would allow you to fix the problem.
    Soothe 2

    There is a trial period.

This song was written and performed by Thomas Wold a member of the country band I engineer for...  Hobo Train.
He wrote this for a close friend who has cancer.

Its just basically recorded (demo) and we are going to re do it in my studio.
I have only mastered the stereo track I was given.

    I think it's beautiful.

If you connect the SUM Outputs (that's an analog signal) to a pair of the Apollo analog inputs you get nothing?

    That correct.
I am sending the SUM Output to analogue 7 + 8.
I do not see any signal in the UAD Control Panel for imputs 7 + 8.
Need to do a little more research.
I hope the sum output of the box is not damaged.
Will also check to see if I can get signal into Apollo 7+8 via another feed.

  5. OK... my mistake was not creating an AUX track..  I created a track instead!!!  🙂
Now I have worked that out and can record my master bus.

Just have to work out now how to get the spidif working on an input.
It works on an output though as its sending the signal to my D Box via mirror to the DAW input on the D Box.

I need the spdif to record the sum. mmm.

  6. @DeeringAmps
Thanks for taking the time to look... appreciated.
    The .pdf explains the setup.

I have everything working fine except the print track.
I have never recorded a print track even without the d-box before.

    The summing works fine.
The analogue and daw part works fine.

Its just recording the sum I cant work out.
I must have some routing wrong somewhere.

The sums should be mirrored to the spidif..  so I thought I should make the input on aux track as spidif..  not managed to sort this bit out yet.

  7. I have recently acquired a Dangerous D-Box Summing Mixer.

What I want to do is record the "Print Track" to a new Stereo Track in a project.
So...  I am summing my project through the 8 analogue channels of the mixer..  how do I record this?
Its got me beat (my head must be in the wrong place).

I am using an Apollo X8p and I am mirroring (digital mirror on) but I can't find out how to record that mirror.
    hope I make sense.

    Thanks in advance.

Gary , Everything sounds better in mix 3. The main vocal in the verses have a lot more presence and power. The rim shots are Real nice and the entire song sounds fuller.   Nice ..   mark

    Thanks @mark skinner
I've added one more as I personally thought the vocals were a little unclear and muddy.
Did dome automation on the instruments and changed out some of the reverbs and delays.

Thanks for taking the time to listen.

P.s.  Maybe Im a little deaf/blind now and need to leave it for a little while!
Maybe the guitar solo needs to come up more.

Hi, Gary. That's a nice song. Lots of good stuff going on in the mix, but it seems to my ears that the attack transient of the kick drum is getting washed out by the bass. Are you ducking the bass audio with the kick drum attack? It just seems a little undefined to me, but that could just be personal taste on my part.

"Reisen" in German means "to travel." What does it mean in Norwegian?

I'm old enough to have met and dealt with real hobos. That was a culture with its own rules. They weren't homeless people in the modern sense. Hobo was a lifestyle. I remember them coming to my parents house looking for a meal, but insisting on doing some kind of work first before accepting food. They had a secret mark they used to indicate homes that were receptive to hobos. I looked and looked, but never found it. But I know there was one there, since they stopped by regularly. Always on the move. Every hobo I met was a good person. How did the band pick Hobo Train for a name?

Hi @John Maar  thanks for taking the time tn.  I have tried to implement your feedback.
"Reisen" means the same in Norwegian.  🙂

I will ask why they called themselves Hobo Train.

  10. Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions.
I have now added a new mix and tried to implement suggestions.

I have added a tamborine and rimshot/sticks to the mix.
Also a few vocal and bass optimisations.

    Thanks for listening.

  11. Mix 4

Trying to get the vocals more clean (I thought they were muddy) and some automation on the instruments as well as different reverbs added.

    Mix 3 taking in suggestions.

Working on a track for a band called Hobo Train  (I am their sound engineer)
This is my second mix and would value your thoughts.

It is in Norwegian so the lyrics many wont get..  bit to judge the mix you can  🙂
I ran it through the BandLab Master chain.. and will post another without it.
    Thanks for your time.

Thanks for all the great comments folks !

@garybrun . . . I do have a darker mix of this, but it seemed to be missing the mid range 1K, might have brought in too much, hard to say,  still comparing on different listening systems.

Sound familiar to me.. as Mark adds 1-1.2k to my mixes.

I have just recently purchases the Dangerous Music D-Box with analogue summing... so will check my room tuning again.

  13. I would recognise Marks playing anywhere I think.  🙂
Very nice song...  those where hard waters to navigate when we young.
    Well done guys.

We all paint very different pictures...
I would personally like the voice to be a little more forward with a little more compression and a "warmer". track over all.
