  1. So last night I realized that all of the Softube plugins on sale for $11 USD have demo versions and I did side-by-side comparisons with plugins of the same type I own from other developers. Here's my completely subjective thoughts after trying out the demos. I am definitely not an expert with effects and mixing, so you can take my opinions with a huge grain -- no, make that several grains -- of salt. If you're interested in any of these plugins, you should download and try them for yourself. But here are my thoughts, comparing the plugins to similar plugins I own: - Fix Phaser, Tube Delay and Spring Reverb are all very, very good plugins and a fantastic deal for the sale price. However, I didn't find Tube Delay was compelling enough to win me over when compared to the plugins I already own, largely because I don't think I would give it much use. I'm not totally sure about Fix Phaser --- I really like it and was comparing it largely to NI's Phasis. While I like the sound of Fix Phaser's presets over those of Phasis, I really don't think I would use the effect very much, so even at the current low sale price, I'm going to hold off on buying Fix Phaser. - The one effect I feel I will get a lot of use out of and am going to buy is Softube's Spring Reverb. I tried it with Orange Tree Samples Evolution Jazz Archtop Electric Guitar and it had a different character than the spring reverb in Guitar Rig -- cleaner -- and I really liked it a lot. While spring reverbs naturally sound retro, there is something about Softube's Spring Reverb that sounds retro, but updated -- especially when used in moderation. However, what really sold me was when I tried the Spring Reverb on my Wurli 145B sample library from Skybox Audio . That was it. The perfect combination, IMO. If you are a Wurli fan, you really should try the demo of Spring Reverb on your Wurli. It's a 10/10. Plus, $11 USD for very high quality plugins and no such thing as a Softube Update Plan???? Sign me up! If you're even mildly interested in these plugins, I would strongly recommend going to Softube's site and trying the demos out for yourself, but make your purchase at Plugin Boutique's site. While Softube has their Spring Verb on sale for $11USD at their website, the same price as Plugin Boutique (for that plugin, the other two on sale at PIB are not on sale at Softube's site), if you buy from Plugin Boutique, you'll get Cableguy's Soundshaper 3 as a free gift. Based on the posts I've seen about that plugin and a Sound on Sound review, it's well worth picking up. In fact, I'd say that it's a crazy good deal. https://www.softube.com/sr

  2. Softube plugins on sale for as much as 88% off at Plugin Boutique. Fix Phaser, Tube Delay and Spring Reverb are each on sale for only $11 USD. SEEKING PLUGIN ADVICE: I became a Softube fan a few years ago after a bunch of you posted how much you like their plugins, and your advice was excellent. Thanks. I've since bought several of their plugins and been completely happy with every one of them and they don't have an update plan! Imagine that?! Consequently, I'm eager to buy more when I see a sale like this with Fix Phaser, Tube Delay and Spring Reverb each on sale for only $11 USD, I could use advice on whether these effects are different/better than the ones included in Guitar Rig. I love spring reverbs -- especially to go after that 60s Motown sound of electric guitar. If anyone has one of the three effects on sale for $11 USD, especially if they can compare it to alternatives like Guitar Rig, I'd love to get your thoughts. There really isn't much risk in spending 11 bucks, but I just want to make sure that there's a good reason to use it over what I already own. https://www.pluginboutique.com/manufacturers/125-Softube?s=published

  5. In late December 2022 I had to do something I really hated doing but it had to be done. My best friend of 38 years who I loved deeply and whom I had known for 45 years needed a level of help and care that I could no longer provide. It may feel/sound a little like a dirge but it is short less than three minutes. I do appreciate you listening if you do. Toys used in it making Sad Days. 14. After I bought Spring Reverb at Plugin Boutique (in order to get SoundShaper 3 as a freebie), I realized that I bought and completely forgot to install Trackspacer after a bunch of folks here recommended it! I now own Softube Dirty tape, FET Compressor, Saturation Knob, Spring Reverb, Tape and Transient Shaper (I own maybe 5 different transient shapers and I usually try all of them on drum tracks and always end up using the Softube one) and am very happy with every purchase, especially when I get a deal like this one. Count me as a Softube fan. I started with Tape several years ago but never bought anything else from them until a bunch of folks here started posting about how good their various effects are. I'm always open to checking into other devs people are impressed with. This forum has been extremely valuable for me in navigating effects developers.

  17. Neutron should be in any debate of best channel strips. It just gets omitted a lot because: 1) it doesn't look like or emulate any one classic channel strip 2) People get caught up in AI aspect and forget that you can use it 100% without using AI. The user interface is far more functional than using mouse to get frustrated with a bunch if round knobs. Each individual component is damn good on it's own and despite not emulating any one product, does a good job of providing the functionality of those products minus the exact colorization ( something most emulations fall short on). With that said, it's not my favorite, but when I do use it, I find myself wondering why I don't use it more

  19. Atlantis and some of the amp sims are the only Softube stuff I don't own. The Fix Phaser is a good deal. And some you should note that they (like the phaser) work within Modular and Amp Room, if that matters to you. Hail Paul Wolff and all that. But some of these, you may want to pass on if you plan on getting one of their volumes that include stuff. I only find myself using the TubeDelay and SpringReverb within Modular.

  21. May be the record level is too low to show anything meaningful given the scale of the track display. The track's audio scale may be adjusted, or the actual clip volume may be boosted. the clip image is corrupt. To recompute the image, right-click the clip, at the bottom of the context menu select Associated Audio Files in the Associated Audio Files dialog click Recompute Picture(s). Low record levels may be the result of trying to use the software without a dedicated audio interface designed for DAW use. While this does work, it is unlikely to perform as well as a DAW with a purpose-built audio interface with a factory supplied ASIO driver.

  24. I saw Synth V mentioned, and I'll add my recommendation to that one. I don't think a lot of people quite understand yet how much of a breakthrough Synth V is. You could potentially do realistic solo's as well as backup singing. One of the best data banks for Synth V is Solaria. Here is an example I did to test out the Solaria voice. No DAW mixing or FX (which will only make it better), and absolutely no real person singing- This is just the raw file I created from Synth V With Music Without Music The Downside to Synth V is it is best used in its own app. Sort of how like some people prefer to comp a voice with one DAW and then use another to mix. The VST integration looks decent in Studio One, but not in any other DAW. Nevertheless, it is well worth the effort. Just use a stereo backing track for creating the vocals and then bounce the vocals and import into your DAW, then continue to mix.

  25. No, they are just ensemble voices. You could give Emvoice a try for free and see what you think. People use it to sing lyrics. I really don't know how it would sound as ahs, etc. And there is also a free demo of Synthesizer V, which is a more sophisticated vocal instrument--but I think a bit harder to learn. I am pretty sure it would give you the results you're looking for it, if you're willing put the time in.

  27. I don't do Starbucks either. Way overpriced and IMO not that good. If it was extraordinarily superb, it might be worth the money. I just don't do fast food - zilch - nada - none. I think life is too short to rush through meals. We went out and got a burger today, and a huge RV resort where we gig. I like to patronize the places that hire us, and the owner has hired us twice a month for 8 years now. I got a 9 oz burger made with beef that has never been frozen, delivered by the butcher this morning, hand pattied, on a fresh bun that was baked yesterday without preservatives, the burger was grilled the way I like it (well done) with the choice of toppings I like, and without the toppings I don't like. The cheese was real cheddar, not some processed cheese food. Mrs. Notes got hers rare with the toppings she prefers. The fries were real, fresh, never frozen potatoes, some with the skin still on (I like that), fried in an individual batch (not sitting under a heat lamp), and crispy the way I asked for them. Mrs. Notes got a salad that made fresh after she placed her order. She got the bottle of vinegar and oil to put on the salad, because they know that's what she wants. We were catered to, with the desire to do it the way we like it, not the way the factory builds them. We sat outdoors in a comfortable chair (it was 84 degrees today), and were served by an attractive, pleasant, and attentive waitress who checked on us to make sure everything was OK. The food was bursting with flavor, the company was superb, the location under huge Live-Oak trees pleasant. That was much more enjoyable than the car or any fast-food 'dining room'. That's good for our experience. The cup was ceramic, the plate china, the silverware stainless steel, the salt/pepper/ketchup/etc. in reusable, washable containers, and the only thing that was disposable was the napkin. That's good for the environment. ----- And what's really in an Egg McMuffin? Buns: High-fructose corn syrup, soy or canola oil (inflammatory, two of the hateful 8 oils), calcium sulfate, calcium carbonate, calcium citrate, calcium propionate, potassium sorbate (preservatives), soy lecithin, inflammatory gliaden protein, diacetyl tartaric acid esters of monoglycerides. (Are those unpronounceable ingredients actually food?) Eggs: From chickens who've been cooped up in dark factories where they don't even have room to spread their wings. They never see light, which means they're missing vitamin D, and their diet largely consists of only soy and corn. But I suppose most restaurants serve similar eggs, so McD gets an OK on that. At home, we buy free-range eggs from local farms. Cheese: (Actually not cheese, but processed cheese food.) Their blend is 60% cheddar cheese and 40% other ingredients, which include water, salt, whey powder, butter, milk proteins, emulsifying salts, natural cheese flavoring, and food coloring. This highly processed dairy product most likely comes from a cow that's been treated with synthetic hormones (rBGH) to boost milk production by about 10 percent. rGBH has been banned in Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand because it's unhealthy for both the cows and humans. Bacon: sugar, salt, sodium lactate, sodium phosphate, natural flavor (vegetable), sodium diacetate and sodium nitrite https://www.livestrong.com/article/559235-diet-detective-whats-really-inside-your-egg-mcmuffin/ I'm opposed to the High-fructose corn syrup, soy oil, alcium sulfate, calcium carbonate, calcium citrate, calcium propionate, potassium sorbate, soy lecithin, gliaden, diacetyl tartaric acid esters of monoglycerides, rBGH, sodium diacetate, sodium nitrite and sugar. The sodium nitrite I'm probably getting in all bacon, so I guess that doesn't count. At home, I buy bacon that doesn't have the nitrites in it. But then I'm careful about what I eat, which is perhaps why I haven't been sick in +20 years except for one two-day cold I caught after a vacation where I ate many things that weren't very good for me. My doc says my heart/circulatory system and everything else is like a healthy person, more than 20 years younger than my age. Before I changed my diet, I wasn't this healthy at all. But that could just be me, and might not be the same for everyone else. Mrs. Notes never gets sick since we changed our diet. We're not vegans or anything like that, but we shy away from overly processed foods (frankenfood), eat fresh whenever we can, avoid corn syrup and inflammatory oils, keep the carbs down, and eat healthy fats. So, eating this way is healthy for us (YMMV). And since I gig for a living, and cannot call in sick, it makes good sense to eat a diet that keeps me from getting sick. ----- Plus I'd rather sit down at a comfortable restaurant and enjoy the meal cooked the way I like it, with a non-disposable cup, non-disposable plate, non-disposable flatware, salt/pepper/ketchup/etc. in non-disposable individual packets and savor the meal. Life is short, I try to enjoy and savor everything I do. Of course, that's just me. Others obviously love fast food. Big corporations make a mint producing it. Insights and incites by Notes ♫

  32. The Newfangled Audio stuff (you mentioned Equivocate) gets a lot of use here. Saturate is my clipper of choice for tonal material, Elevate finds its way on my master more and more, Punctuate is great on some material and will fail on other and I'm just trying out Invigorate which I am growing very fond of. It has to go a bit higher in my TOMA, because now I tend to use it too much towards the end and the effect can be a bit much at that point. But still, at very low mix settings it adds a great edge.

  33. My first time out of the deals forum, be gentle 😝. I recently rebuilt my studio to accommodate a setup more suitable for live jamming. I still have to hunch a bit, but ok. Also my first try at a multicam setup. I feel like the angles don't really complement each other so I will probably move one camera to behind the gear. Lighting is pretty ok, a bit 'kitsch' with the disco light and I know the led strip came loose. I'm overall pretty pleased with the result. Enjoy.

  34. Got that Spring Reverb after all. It’s also $11 at Softube. Already had the Tube Delay, Drawmer S73 and the Tsar-1R reverb. Gewd stouph. Not getting the phaser as I still have to get to grips with the Eventide one. Same reason I didn’t get the Clearmountain phaser/flanger from Apogee. I’m sure they’ll be fine, but I’ve got limited use for phasers and flangers. Eventide (and d16) will have to suffice.

  38. First rule out a config issue: 1. Check your Keyboard Shortcuts aren't configured to use the sustain pedal as a SHIFT key: 2. Make sure Controller events are enabled: 3. Make sure you have no control surfaces using the MIDI port your pedal is coming in on: Once you've ruled those out, check the hardware configuration of your pedal. Quite a few pedals have a polarity switch. Some keyboards automatically detect the polarity on start up, whereas others require it to be set a particular way. If your pedal has such a switch, try flipping it and trying again.
