  5. KLANG FROZEN PAN - free KONTAKT instrument (requires the full version) from Cinematique Instruments "Handpans have magical overtones that enchanted us. Since we made one for CI, we kept wanting to find out what else is possible using this sound, and for the Frozen Pan, we found two new beautiful facets of the handpan. Give it a slow attack for a brushed and mellow feeling, enrich it with a sustained sound we made using a frozen handpan sample, or combine and tweak both to create your own enchanting sounds." 7. Hello , I was going to wait awhile .. but I got toasted and posted.. Here's a new one I could use your ears on . Thought I'd go back to some vocal songs while I still can . I've been goin back and forth on vocal levels and have had problems with de-essing. Any suggestions would be Great for improvements , no matter how small. Besides the electric guitar DI'd, everything else was captured with an SM57 including the vocals .. (last time for this) thus the De-ess problems. Left side - Dulcimer and Yari acoustic . Right side G&L Tele and high strung Aria acoustic. Ibanez bass and SI drums. Sends to Valhalla Space modulator on the acoustics. Thank You for the listen. This is a fictional song but it's been a close call .. - This is Mix D with vocal panning- Thanks .. mark

  10. I was watching some YouTube videos from musicians / influencers I follow, and one, educator and musician Pete Calandra, had a review of this really quirky character felt piano (it's a KONTAKT library that requires the full version) for only $5 USD. I didn't buy it yet, I am about to now, but I thought I'd share his review and a link to purchase the library. While Pete did this review 7 months ago, I searched the forum and didn't find a thread for this library, so I thought it would be new to many others, like it is to me. If you like the sound, for 5 bucks, I think it's a no-brainer. Here's a link to purchase the library; Pete's review video is below that. https://halflightmusic.gumroad.com/l/dustbowl?layout=profile

  14. @fossile the actual issue isnt related to pan law. When you bounce with source category clips, it's running each selected clip through the entire signal flow and captures the "as heard" sound. However, when it encounters a mono clip with channel format mono (or follow source), the clip gets upconverted to stereo at the end of the bounce signal path and then it gets converted back to mono when writing the file. this is where the 3db gain comes into play. I've fixed this by compensating for it for the next version.

  20. Been on Win11 a few months, haven't really noticed much of a difference and definitely no issues. Although when I recently switched my audio interface, both Windows and CbB just worked without me having to do any configuration -- I thought that was kind of cool. I was a hold-out for upgrading, but the thing that convinced me was when they added file explorer tabs last fall. I find that pretty useful.

  21. I didn't like the context menu on right click...got tired of hitting more all the time so I used this to restore the old contextul menu- Restore old Context Menu in Windows 11 Right-click the Start button and choose Windows Terminal. Copy the command from below, paste it in Windows Terminal Window, and press enter. reg.exe add "HKCU\Software\Classes\CLSID\{86ca1aa0-34aa-4e8b-a509-50c905bae2a2}\InprocServer32" /f /ve Restart File Explorer or your computer for the changes to take effect. You would see the Legacy Right Click Context menu by default. The Registry change masks the new COM object that executes the compact menus with the "Show more options" entry. Once you get this performed, Explorer reverts to the Legacy context menu. Restore Modern Context menus in Windows 11 To undo this change, in an elevated Terminal Window, execute this command: reg.exe delete "HKCU\Software\Classes\CLSID\{86ca1aa0-34aa-4e8b-a509-50c905bae2a2}" /f Restart the File Explorer or Computer for the changes to take effect. These steps can help you to enable the old context menu in Windows 11. I also edited the location of the toolbar items...I have them on the left where they belong....you can look that up if you're interested. I bought a new laptop and built a new desktop so they've only seen Win 11...I actually like it better than 10...though it's not a lot different. Using Google Play on my desktop is cool Good luck! 23. I know I got something around 100 things (all the little AT stuff adds up) with multiple buy ins. So that would require a give away every week. 😁 Would have been nice is those of us that actually bought Tonex got the boogie give away that was directed towards those that hadn't made the jump yet. And I'm betting some bitterness is also coming with the ToneX pedal that is around the corner (which will include a software seat), without additional discounts for those of us that got it with another purchase just after release.

  32. I bought, downloaded, installed it and played around with it for 5 minutes. I love the vibe of this piano. It's absolutely for ambient music. It has a ton of noise -- from tape -- in the samples, but it still works. It's as subjective as it gets, but I find the library inspiring to play. If you're interested, watch the Pete Calandra video I shared in the OP, because it does a good job of showing you exactly what you'll be getting. But I really like this. It's absolutely not going to be everyone's cup of tea. But if you watch the video in the OP and the sound of the piano in the demos appeals to you, I can't see any reason you wouldn't be happy with this library (again , as long as you realize there's no way to take out the noise in the samples -- tape hiss is a key part of the vibe of the library). https://halflightmusic.gumroad.com/l/dustbowl

  34. I have the Syntronik 2 MAX, and there are some very cool sounds buried in there. If you find a sound that you like, it can sound really good! And kudos to the team that preserved all of those vintage synth sounds from those hardware collections! It's historical! And what you can put together in the multis can be very creative! But the downside is with the preset browser and the fact that all the synth presets are sample based. I have nothing against sample based instruments, in fact I have too many of them! 🤪 It's just that if I am looking for a synth preset in Syntronik, I encounter a bit too much "friction". Lets see here, found a cool preset name, so double click and wait for the samples to load. Listen to it, then on to the next, and so forth. I just find that workflow tiresome after a while, where with a modeled synth that I can just scroll down a filtered list of sounds that might be interesting and they each load instantly. That tends to hold my attention for much longer. Syntronik may be of more use if you know exactly what you are looking for, rather than exploring for "that sound" that you will know as soon as you hear it. That said, you will run across some goodies, especially if you filter for the Syntronik v2 presets.

  36. Installed! Got the Asymmetric sound pack for free! It was included with the purchase String Studio VS-3, which I picked up at Best Service. Apparently an AAS promotion for this month only! "SPECIAL OFFER! Get String Studio VS-3 for 50% off. Asymmetric - Sound Pack is included with every purchase only through February 28, 2023." https://www.ilio.com/string-studio-3 Factoid: Asymmetric was created by the same sound designer that made Analog Orchestra for Ultra Analog VA-3. Cipryan Bot is a Romanian music producer who collaborated with labels such as Armada Music, Magic Island, and Solaris Recordings for original tracks and remixes. His main background is electronic and telecommunications engineering but his attraction for music and designing real-like and electronic sounds transformed his hobby into a passion.

  38. As always, I would like to mention that Swatches/Player has also been updated with sounds from Asymmetric. And I believe that for the first time, A|A|S' installer is allowing the choice of exactly which formats to install, good news for those of us who are weary of purging our systems of AAX.

  39. Don't see it as an issue. But I do see where you are coming from. My Scarlett 6i6 has a similar list. Most people are only using the first couple of inputs as they are alone in the studio. So inserting a new audio track only requires one click to select the input. But this is even easier if you use templates. I have track and song templates that have the correct inputs selected already. If I load a guitar track template it selects mono input 1. a bass template uses 2. Vocals use 3 etc. I sometimes record live bands and will use a Tascam 1641 and I then load the song template that has all the correct inputs and tracks assigned. In less than 15 seconds I'm ready to record 14 tracks. As long as the same interface is connected and being used by Cakewalk before you load a template all is good. I used to use more hardware stuff and in those days I had a Yamaha 01v digital mixer using the SPDIF ( digital ) connection. That was mostly used for stereo equipment but I sometimes recorded 2 mikes on acoustic guitar that way and I would separate those to mono. Once again I think I made a template for it.

  40. I have the full Syntronik 2 collection, but I spend more time with my Cherry Audio vintage synth emulations these days. Why? Because I like having full control over the synth. And Cherry Audio has done a reasonably fine job with their Moog emulations. You can get their version of the Memory Moog for $39. https://cherryaudio.com/products/memorymode

  41. For those not familiar with Syntronik, the oscillators are all sample-based so it's not a full synth emulation. The panels for the various synths in the collection contain basically the same controls, with mostly graphic design differences. But since the samples were all recorded from the vintage hardware, you mostly get the sound of the real thing, which can sound great! The various filters were modeled on the leading filter types used by vintage synths, but not exactly from the synth model represented by the Syntronik instrument in use. Also, the preset browser doesn't have a "next" or "previous" button to audition presets with. It requires a double-click to load a preset. So recommend spending a session going through all of the presets and marking your favorites with the "star" icon. This will save you time & frustration later.

  42. Chord Analyser can't be used as an offline effect. It's purpose is to analyse chords as you are playing, so you need to add it to the MIDI FX bin. If you're using an instrument track, you can access the MIDI FX bin in the track inspector, within the MIDI tab:

  43. Maybe it's just Canadian drummers? Well, okay, I guess Keith Moon and John Bonham.... However, Jimi H., Janis J., Jim M., Amy W., Minnie R., Bon S., John L., Kurt C., Hank W., Buddy H., Richie V., Big B., Tupac S., Biggie S., Nick D., Freddie M., Ronnie V., Cassie G. Sam C., Jim R., Kyu S. and Judy G. made the case that singers can check out pretty early. Neil and Robbie beat Judy Garland by 20 years. She's the geezer in the bunch at age 47. Of the rest of them, Minnie Riperton, Sam Cooke, John Lennon, Jim Reeves and Kyu Sakamoto were the only ones who even made it out of their 20's. 21 singers, and none of them made it to 50! Only two of them (Minnie and Freddie) died of natural causes. Of the rest, 7 of them died in plane crashes on the way to gigs, and with the rest, it was drugs and/or violence. Yeah, I know, I'm about to turn 62, and I kinda hope that I've got more than 5 years left in this theme park we call "life," but all of those I listed crammed a LOT of living into their time. Well, except maybe Nick Drake 😥, but if you're trying for a lasting legacy, Nicky baby knocked that one out of the park.

  45. @Hidden Symmetry In the new mix , I soloed and automated the panning on the vocal tracks. I went out 18% on the main harmonies , that was just enough to keep the tracks out of each others way but still had a centered blend. In the process I also Melodyned one of the harmony tracks. It had some pretty bad spots. Thanks for that suggestion. Everything was straight up the middle. I believe that improved the song a Lot. I'm happy now .. Thank You Bruce. I also did some mid /side eq work while mastering. (another helpful @garybrun suggestion). @Bajan Blue @Larry T. @DaveT2 @KSband @Keith Wilby I Really appreciate you and your time ! @Paul Bush Thanks for the comment and the follow. @Wookiee Thanks you also for the nice comment. You guys keep me going and Really help me to get a handle on the finer points of making my songs presentable. Sincerely .. mark
