  1. Hello everyone, I am sorry for not chiming in sooner, it has been a bit of a mess to say the least. In short, I fell prey to a classic collaboration phishing attack, the most convincing I had ever seen. The hackers were posing as Lichty Guitars and wanted me to select one of their custom made instruments to inbox and share my experiences in a video. The communication looked legit and did not give me a reason to doubt the authenticity, but their trap was about to be sprung. Thursday about 12:00 pm EST, I opened an application from them (the impersonator) that was able to steal what I believe were my SESSION COOKIES, giving them a way to bypass the usual Two Factor Authentication I had set up. Things happened very quickly from there. After closing my computer we went out and on our way I get a Two Factor Prompt that someone was trying to log in from the Netherlands. I clicked NO This Is Not Me, but the damage was done. I tried pulling over to try and change my password but they had already gained access and locked me out. The next thing was my wife gets a notification that “I” just started a livestream, but it was “TESLA” and something to do with cryptocurrency. Needless to say I turned the car around and headed back home to see if there was anything I could do. I immediately started to try and change passwords for other sensitive accounts using the Gmail account associated with my channel. I also made contact by phone with the real Lichty Guitars (which I should have done in the first place) and verified that this was indeed a scam and that they have been targeted before. I also Tweeted my situation tagging YouTube Creators as that was really the only option to get any type of support. Email, chat, of course phone options were non existent. After a little while, I received a direct message on Twitter giving me a way to submit an account recovery form. I filled out the information and then all I could do was wait. Time passes (it is later Thursday), and I get an email saying my account has been recovered. So I immediately go and change passwords and work on doing malware scans to eliminate any possible threat that might still be on my system. I then see that I could now login to my channel to start cleaning up the mess. When this type of hack occurs, usually nothing on the channel is deleted, they will set all of the videos to PRIVATE and change other meta data, channel icon, and channel name. I did a bulk edit to mark my videos to public again and tried to get my channel name and icon set back to normal. Things were looking fine UNTIL I get an email from YouTube saying that now my channel had been TERMINATED! This was something I never expected but now it seems that this was possibly in response to viewers seeing something was wrong on the channel earlier and reporting it to YouTube as a precaution. So back to Twitter as well as following up with replies to earlier emails from YouTube partner support. Now I wait…….. I did get a response from YouTube late last night assuring me that they are working on getting things resolved, so I am hopeful that will be soon. In the mean time, I ordered a YUBIkey which is a hardware two factor device that ironically was what the hackers were using to prevent me from logging in or regaining access to my account. I am also working through making sure I changed passwords on other platforms that might be vulnerable. So, many lessons learned and wake up call received. The biggest one is not fully trusting that little voice saying, why would a guitar company want you to do a video, you don’t even play guitar 😂😂😂😂 I laugh a little now but with a deep regret that this happened in the first place, costing me a lot of lost time trying to fix a mess that could have easily been avoided. I have to say that I have received so much support from the community and that has been such a comfort and encouragement. Also, by sharing what happened to me maybe someone will be spared the headache that I am dealing with now. I will keep everyone posted as the events continue to unfold. You can follow me on Twitter @praisetracks if you are on that platform but I will be here as well. Staying joyful, Simeon

  7. Reid Rosefelt asked a similar question over at the VI Control community a year ago, and got 7 pages of responses... https://vi-control.net/community/threads/for-pluginguru-unify-owners-why-did-you-buy-it-what-do-you-use-it-for.119812/ And... https://soundbytesmag.net/review-unify-by-pluginguru/ https://bedroomproducersblog.com/2020/02/20/pluginguru-unify-review/ Here is John "Skippy" Lehmkuhl's Unify release video from 3 years ago. Unify Standard is now up to version 1.9.1. All updates have been free, and most have included new features. A few key takeaways from this, but there are many more! Unify is a self contained instrument that you can play right away without adding any plugins or libraries, with 400 patches included. You can scan and add you own plugins. Contains many samples, MIDI FX, audio FX, and a few free synths used by permission. Macro knobs are assignable to your controller and can connect with any parameter in any layer of a patch. Even multiple instances of the same instrument. This is a huge feature for performance control! Each layer processes on a separate CPU thread, so it automatically load balances. It's fun!

  8. @icu81b4 / @SketalDaz - in the next release, the "Freehand Smoothing" menu will be renamed to "Automation Smoothing" and will apply to both freehand drawing and recording automation. So: Smooth - will have the current behaviour, creating a smoothed approximation of the recorded automation. This works well for volume automation recording. As Drawn/Recorded (Jumps) - The recorded automation points are left exactly as they were recorded/drawn. As Drawn/Recorded (Linear) - The position/values of the recorded automation points are left exactly as they were recorded/drawn, but are joined together by a linear line. This is a compromise between Smooth and As Drawn/Recorded (Jumps). Use this if you're experiencing a stepping effect with "As Drawn/Recorded (Jumps)".

  18. Wow, Simon, that is a really awful and incredibly frustrating experience. I appreciate your sharing tips to help ensure that others won't go through the same thing. Rest assured that the community here is solidly behind you and cheering you on. Last year my business's site was hacked. I was up the entire night working -- stressed -- and waiting for everything to be restored and additional security measures to be implemented. I actually wrote and recorded a song while waiting that doesn't sound like it's about getting hacked because I used metaphors. Perhaps you might take this experience and do the same in a new video? In any event, rest assured we're all eager for you to get things sorted and be back and hanging out with you (virtually) while you get so inspired by the beautiful sounds you're hearing that you find yourself improvising beloved songs and melodies from years past and we all join you for the journey. The kind of people that did this can ruin a day or so, but they can't steal our resilience. Our victory is in learning something new and returning stronger, not bitter, but wiser. Like everyone else here, I'm eager to see you back up and running and entertaining us with your talent and storytelling. All the best, Peter

  22. This ^^^^ helps explain what I was wondering about when I stumbled onto the change to my Special Offer. With tips like this, I am starting to learn about the arturia's marketing MO. Thanks! This ^^^^ helps, too, both in terms of understanding their marketing MO and in my financial planning. Pigments is new to me so I have been going through more tutorials and manual reading. It seems quite flexible -- enough to keep me busy developing a deep understanding of how to design sounds for my own use for a while.

  23. The upgrade from V8 to V9 on release was $99. People who did that do now get MiniFreak for $49. People who are still on V8 get the upgrade to V9 + MiniFreak for $149 right now. I'm assuming the upgrade to V10 will be $199 from V8 and $99 from V9, so if you upgrade/get MiniFreak early now, you're paying a little "early adopter" fee. Seems fair to me.

  39. I had to take a good hard look at where I was heading DAW wise after Gibson dropped SONAR . Panic had set in and I feared I may never ever find a suitable DAW I liked half as much as I had liked SONAR . I started buying up everything I could find too fill the ever approaching emptyness I was now starting to feel in my creative musical heart. I was at my wits end ...Where do I start ? ...... Then I came up with a foolproof plan . If CC Larry , Bapu or Kitekrazy recomended it I went for it. When Kitekrazy disliked it , couldn't stand the deal , or hated it .....I bought 2 .....😆 By chance I came upon a Music Radar Best DAW list ...The Top 20 ...It turns out that I had 14 of the top 20 DAW's in the article ....both PC & Mac... For the record I was OK with the idea that I had become a Jack of all DAW's and a master of none . I had paid for them .I knew I would sort this dillema out eventualy. But deep down in my gut , something was gnawing away at the very core of my insides .... It took me a few months to realize it. I had spent all my money on musical equipment and I had left no money in my budget for the simple pleasures of life .... It was apparent to me that I had to come find peace with my guilt Yet I would still come here and while here I felt like a total fraud and hypocrite ... I had loved coming here and talking about Guitars , Music Production , Becan and scantly clad bikini clad women yet the simple sad truth of the matter was I hadn't had a strip of Becan in over 2 years . My DAW jones had taken away my ability to afford Becan ...While trying to hide my shame I would go out and buy a Dollar Store bag of Pork Rinds and tell my self I was doing the best I can ... Who was I fooling ? myself surley ... Having hit a bottom with a trap door , I put the brakes on all my DAW spending ..... Now I use the former DAW money to buy only the things that enhance and nurture my soul . The smell of fresh cooked Becan can certainly get my creative juices flowing . Can I get and Amen 😇 Oh Yeah ! Life is Good ! I'm back 🤗 Kenny

  42. It's not that difficult to use your mouse, at least for a first pass: when in play mode, with the fader armed for automation writing (and reading of course) just click once when you want a change, no need to hold it pressed all the time. After this you can go to the envelope lane and adjust as you need, drawing. Sometimes it's easier to draw, sometimes it's easier to use the control surface or the mouse.

  43. Yeah, I'll wait for V10 including this and 3-4 other new/upgraded synths for $99 instead.

  44. That's possibly one reason why the manufacturer of the new Osmose keyboard opted to put an onboard synth in the keyboard. That way they have QA over the MPE presets onboard, as well as no need for plugins or a computer out of the box. Then it's up the user that wants to connect it as a controller to deal with the rest.

  45. I was targeting "is any sound can be driven by MPE?" question. But you are right, my post is probably "too academic" for musicians... So I better list just practical points: MPE should be activated on keyboard and inside VSTi to work correctly. Knowing how that is done (and what can deactivate it) may avoid confusion. Original MIDI Polyphonic After-touch is not a part of MPE. Some other messages are used differently. In other words, MPE keyboard can be used with MPE unaware VSTi, but it should not be in MPE mode. The "sound" can be wrong otherwise. the "sound" produced by MPE compatible VSTi in MPE mode from preset not designed for MPE may be not the same as in conventional mode. That is VSTi (and preset) dependent. Also editing MPE recording can be more difficult then conventional recording (DAW dependent). In other words, it is probably better use (record) MPE mode only in case MPE is really used.

  46. Yes No - it's in the works: https://www.kvraudio.com/focus/amei-to-fund-open-source-midi-2-0-driver-for-windows-56224 Cakewalk is waiting on Microsoft supporting it. Too much to mention. But the main points are: - higher resolution velocity / controllers - devices can now "ask" which capabilities another device has You can read about it here: https://www.midi.org/specifications/midi-2-0-specifications
