Many libraries offer Beat for free via overdrive. But if you can't get it for free (via your local library's subscription) then this might be a great deal. https://downloadlibrary.overdrive.com/library/magazines/media/95305403 points

For the rest of the one (or possibly two) fingered brigade - with limited keyboard chops (self included) - you might find this homespun technique of mine useful. In order to build up song chord tracks, I find building up chord patterns in Scaler a useful way to do it - either select from the pre-set patterns or come up with your own. You have seven patterns to work with in a grid and eight chords per pattern. As soon as you start using multiple patterns, Scaler will assign a key switch (starting at C1) to toggle between them - so you can end up with seven patterns switchable using keys C1 and B1. Make sure you only select and bind Pattern 1 in order to generate the key switches. The chords you assign on the grid are triggered by binding the grid to the keyboard and I have mine set to trigger each chord in sequence from notes C2 to C3. With a bit of planning, you can easily fit in all the chords you need to complete a song, but remembering which key switch and which trigger to press when, in which order and for how long can get a bit tricky. What I do - based on my song structure - is to write a chord map in Excel to help me play the chord track and record it into Cakewalk in real time - here's an extract of one of mine: So on the above extract, Pattern 1 C1 or Pattern 2 D1 etc denotes the key switch, the colour-coded Bar Count represents the duration of chord (i.e. do you hold it for one, beat, two beats or four) and the Trigger Note (C2, D2, E2 etc) denotes the key you press on the keyboard to trigger the chord and the chord being played is written underneath for reference only. Top tip - hold the key down for the full duration of the chord - don't use the sustain pedal or the results can go haywire (especially if you quantize the recorded track). Now I'm not trying to re-invent musical notation here (although my sight reading is terrible), but I find the above kind of works for me. Using the map above, I can play the trigger notes and key switches to generate and record a chord track in real time against - for example - a piano VST (provided you have set up the routing correctly in Cakewalk) without having to worry about multiple takes and getting all the finger positions right and hitting smooth transitions etc. I am aware that I can set the timings in Scaler and select specific patterns to be played back by Scaler and capture the resultant midi, however this sounds very robotic to me, the velocity is a flat line and and even after 'humanising', it doesn't really ever sound right to me (that might just be my poor execution and lack of Scaler chops though). Of course, I could just put the hours in to become a better keyboard player and actually learn how to play my own stuff - but where's the fun in that? 😂 Once the chord track is generated I can then use it with a virtual session pianist like EzKeys to create piano accompaniments in any style I choose, based on simple arpeggios or even the various midi packs (depending which ones you own) to create backing piano tracks I could only ever dream of being able to play. Anyway I thought I would share this workflow in case it's of help or interest to anyone else - the Excel file (other spreadsheets are available) is pretty simple to set up as you can see and I just set it out to follow the entire song structure. Hope it's useful Andy2 points

I think it's time to make an implementation of this request. Yes there are some plugins but thanks. To me working with the Linked Clips is the best way for now. But it is just a workaround. We need a flexible built-in MIDI routing feature in the Cakewalk.2 points

People on Reddit really slammed my video but I got a really good quote from a guy: “If you take a shit in the Metaverse, it will turn up in your pants.” Weird-Breakfast-7259, Reddit I plan to use this wonderful quote in my third video: "Why You Can't Live in the Metaverse."2 points

I'm basically running a super computer. I got the latest I9 last year with all sorts of bells and whistles. I don't really notice heavy CPU usage from any plugin.2 points

I think I found the problem. The first time I opened the Mouse Wheel Zoom Options, X = 1.0 and Y=1.5 (I think). I played with those numbers a bit trying to get things to work. They've both been set to 1.0. I set them to 2.0 and things appear to work as expected and as described in the manual. If you set them to 1.0 or even 1.01, or something low, the zoom functionality starts acting weird. The simultaneous H/V zoom is weird, but I think I can live with it with that box checked. The settings shown in the attached image seem to be working. I was so pleased how intuitive CW was to me, until I started trying to zoom things. Yikes.2 points

It has been less than a year. I honeslty didn't expect any cross platform "integrations" yet as these are small development teams and actually doing any cross platform development work is going to take time. It took them what seemed like months just to get the revised store up and running. As for ground breaking. Sure PA didn't develop it, but the Kirchhoff EQ they bought, updated a little and released feels fairly ground breaking to me. And while Izotope does tend to be cutting edge, those products are also at the very top of the market. RX Advanced alone is on sale for $800 USD. You could by every single PA plugin (100 something) for that even without owning a single PA plugin to start with.2 points

BeatSkillz plugins are pretty much universally hated. They slapped some anamorphic GUIs on and thought of a less juvenile brand name and people are buying it. 🤦♂️2 points

Shaperbox 3.21 released 3.2.1 - January 2, 2023 =================================== - New: Octave offset for LFO's MIDI Pitch mode. Useful for zooming in/out horizontally in the Oscilloscope Tool, and for creating AM/FM-type effects in Shapers. - Improved: Multiselection and exclusion in the Preset Library's Shaper filter. Click to show presets containing selected Shapers. Right-click (or use any modifier) to exclude Shapers. Drag to quickly select multiple Shapers. If you haven't checked out the new features in ShaperBox you should spare a moment and check out the video below. The way that you can easily enhance an existing drum track is really a game changer.2 points

Yeah, the documentation and actual behavior of wheel zooming don't always line up. I've brought it up in the past. I was going to mention the Zoom Factor settings, as at one point I got into the same pickle you did. Glad you found them. Also, in teh PRV don't expect everything mousewheel zoom to work as described. It doesn't. It's not that far off, but some things, like vertical zoom, just don't work as described in the documentation.1 point

As a software engineer, I couldn't resist a bit more experimentation. Turns out the real 'bug' here is not Cakewalk itself. It is that the included 'SI' plugin instruments seem to claim to support MIDI thru but don't. Cakewalk takes them at their word and allows them to be selected as inputs to further soft syths. Many other VST instruments (eg CollaB3) are honest about the fact that they don't support MIDI thru (and when you insert them, the 'midi out' checkbox is appropriately greyed out). And, correctly, they do not appear as possible inputs for further synths. Incidentally I found a lighter-weight 'thru' plugin: https://www.codefn42.com/midichfilter/index.html OK, I think I now completely understand the issue, and have a simple workaround. All done here, time to get on with the music!1 point

Hi Tom Ah the Generation Z syndrome - and I just experienced it first hand - we had many GenZ's staying with us over Christmas and early Christmas day our internet went down and was out for nearly 4 days!!!! apart from thinking the world had ended, they were shocked to find out you can talk to people on something other than WhatsApp and you can actually play games which are not on your phone. Some adapted better than others🤪 The album is doing very well, but this video is really smashing it - its up to nearly 500,000 views on YouTube - in fact its doing so well we have put back the release of the next track by a couple of weeks! Thanks for all your support - it really is appreciated Nigel1 point

True , what i'm saying is that when i analysis the strategic path i see more an attept to provide a lot with incitation to buy instead of providing real value , amek stuff is a perfect exemple , instead of updating the first one , relaseing a second one with just some values diff (exactly the same curves as even the old bx digital) i do love the neold approach and some serious stuff here and there in the catalog , but dropping productat 299 to make you buy them at 29 , product that in pretty all cases better alterantive are present (thinking ssl , api , neve ect ..) isn't imho groundbreaking but the opposit .... What i'm saying is that it's more a name dropping name than a real dev job imho .... i do think they lost track , while at start BX stuff were really something and solid tools added to any pro arsenal , and bx gital is still to this dayz a beast .... with features that even modern eq's still don't implements as defaults ...1 point

First off - this is a cool song! I think you should definitely continue to refine and improve the parts. Nice vocal performance and overall arrangement is interesting. I agree with the previous comments already expressed on the drums. They do seem a little lacking. It all comes down to personal taste (of course) but I would look for samples that sound a little more nuanced and "Real". I also agree that the lyrics could use more work. They seem quite generic and could a more personal approach. This is a great start. In writing, almost all writers write a first draft to get ideas down. The real work starts with the 2nd draft, 3rd draft, etc. -- where ideas are refined and changes are made. These revisions happen many times before most authors are happy with the finished product. Keep Going!1 point

I think you have a lot of interesting material in this that can go in any direction. I like the pallet of elements used. 2nd listen is telling me, Yeah. I would cut the intro and ride with this horse to the end. No beating necessary. Nice gentle and soft beginning that builds and intensifies to a full gallop. Lean into it. Dean1 point

I plugged a MOTU Traveler mk3 into my Windows 10 laptop Thunderbolt port with 2 more adapters. One turned Firewire into Thunderbolt 2 and the other turned Thunderbolt 2 into Thunderbolt 3 (for which I have a jack). Surprisingly it worked fine and gave the MOTU power. I might have got those backward but I can look them up if you like.1 point
