  6. As many of you know, I lost my last YouTube Channel, after 100 videos and 14 years of work. My first video from my new channel is finally up! Please support me any way you can with my new channel. It has one subscriber (me) right now. Absolutely anything you do--subscribe, like, comment, share on other social media platforms, etc. will cause YouTube to show my video to more people. It’s going to be a long slog. Hopefully this will take less than 14 years. I don’t know what you know about The Metaverse, or if you care, but I have become convinced that it is something we should all know about. For one thing, McKinsey & Company says that The Metaverse may generate $5 trillion dollars by 2030, so pretty much all the world’s biggest companies are spending hundreds of billions of dollars to cash in on this thing. (You may have heard that the company behind Facebook is spending a measly ten billion a year in hopes of grabbing a share of this bonanza.) I believe it will be a tidal wave for anybody involved in music and the arts—but truly it will affect all commerce. I don’t think that The Metaverse will be here for ten years or a lot longer, but still it’s good to be informed. Forum rules will keep me from posting more videos here, even though I never made one cent after all my years on YouTube. So if you want to be notified about my videos, you’ll have to click the YouTuber bell in order to get notificatioins. But it is allowed for me to put my link below. I’ll be writing a lot of music cues for this Channel. I don’t know if I would call it music in this one—maybe more like textures. I used two recent sales purchases (Vocalise 2 and Audiofier’s Veevum Human) for the staccato female vocal sounds you hear during the titles. After I get going with this, I hope to expand some of these cues into actual music, and do a separate “Metaverse Music” channel for them. Thanks everybody! PS @cclarry has subscribed, so now I have two subscribers! Thank you, Larry!

  9. I've been enjoying this band lately (thanks YouTube mystery algorithm). They're out of Argentina. It's all in Spanish, so as someone with only middle school Spanish skills I understand little of the lyrics. But the interesting guitar work is universal. Sometimes reminiscent of a laid-back Abraxas-era Santana, before Carlos started phoning in his performances.

  10. IMO, reMidi is a fun idea generator. It's a bit like Scaler if each key were mapped to a random chord or sequence. It's a little counterintuitive to me how to put MIDI slices I want onto the pads so I could play it like a drum pad. That may be due to my natural RTFM resistance, but I can't help but think that a few design changes would make it simpler to use. I would love to be able to drag and drop a slice onto a pad and end up with a 4x4 grid of slices. But I can't seem to make that happen. That being said, I do find it to be an effective and fun way to generate progressions I never would have thought of. The plugin comes with a plethora of MIDI files of public domain music and of course you can use your own. I use it in one of two ways: 1.) Set the size of the MIDI slice as low as possible and the tempo multiplier low which will generate chords for most key presses. Start pressing keys to find a sequence to which I can fit a melody, then record the MIDI out. Very quick inspiration every time. 2.) Set the size of the MIDI slice low and the tempo multiplier high and put an arpeggiator in front of reMIDI -- I can get some very interesting MIDI sequences out of it. So for quick inspiration, it was definitely worth the $20 bucks I paid for it. It has the same problem that all these chord generator plugins have, at least for my process. I find that tools like this are very helpful to come up with a chord progression and melody. But once I have a melody, and I want to take the melody someplace different (e.g., a chorus or a B-section) the tool becomes a hindrance. I want to find chords to fit the melody, so random hunting and pecking keys either fails to return something I am interested in, or forces me to compromise the melody idea. But that's not just ReMidi, I think it's a shortcoming of all these kinds of tools. Hope that's helpful. I think the $20 price point is about right.

  12. That's right Looooong standing feature request with several workarounds
    3 points
  13. Would be more of a 'request for enhancement' than an actual bug, I suppose. It may 'work as designed' but the design is deficient IMHO. But what the heck, life's too short. I've got a workaround and songs to get down, I'm outta here. Have a good day!

  14. Thank you for posting this! Huge KISS fan. Although my interest in the band kind of laid a bit dormant for a while, around the time we moved here in 2012, lots of KISS related stuff started to happen in my life again and Las Vegas soon became synonymous with KISS for me. I also made friends with the guys who organize KISS Night in Vegas, an annual fundraising event, and the most awesome night of the year for any KISS fan. Was invited and participatd a few times over the years, and had a chance to play with and meet a lot of amazing people and musicians, including Bob Kulick (KISS fans will know who he is), Lydia Criss, and guys who've toured with Ace and Peter. Here's a shot from 2016 IIRC. Not the best, but I don't seem to have many with the KISS logo. I'm still a huge fan of Ace. I also like and appreciate Bruce and Tommy.

  15. I thought his stepping down was actually announced around the time of Soundwide so, not much of a surprise. I met Dirk in person once at a an IMSTA FESTA in New York City, where he was demoing the bx SSL consoles, and TMT technology. He really radiated shining passion and love for music production. I think he will do great at the Board of Directors, still providing advice and direction, but with more time for himself for enjoying the results of years of hard work.

  17. Please enhance the error message that appears when plugin is missing or can't load. The current error message is woefully inadequate it only shows the plugin name and an option to perform a futile search on Cakewalk's web site. The error message should show what format of plugin is missing (DX, VST32, VST64, VST3) and what patch was being used. I can understand that maybe this may not be possible to do with an older project but it is something that is long overdue to be added as a current feature. Over the years my VST usage has evolved from 32 bit to 64 bit to VST3 and it is common even when I open even a fairly new project that one or more VSTs don't load. Cakewalk will tell you the name of the plugin that fails to load but no info on its format (32/64/VST/VST3/etc) or what preset it was using. With some projects I then have to ponder is it even worth continuing work on it as it can take several hours (or days depending on available time) per plugin to locate and install older versions until I either hit the right one or ultimately fail. At least if I knew what format I could either zero in on the correct installer or just replace it. I know that this isn't the first time that this has been requested and at this point it has probably become my most vexing Cakewalk issue.

  20. 2023 News: I am stepping down as CEO for Plugin Alliance & Brainworx Audio, then joining the Soundwide Board of Directors! PRIVATE PRESS RELEASE - December 30, 2022 Today marks my last working day as CEO for the 2 companies I have founded, BX (Germany) and PA (USA). Founding these 2 companies from scratch and establishing them in the Champions League of my beloved Audio Industry was the run of a lifetime. After selling my companies exactly 1 year ago and integrating them into the Soundwide group, which also features NATIVE INSTRUMENTS and iZotope, I am now passing my daily CEO tasks on to my dear friend Winni Schapitz, who is already the Managing Director for BX in Germany at this point. Since I invested some of the funds I received for selling PA and BX into Soundwide I am still the largest private shareholder of the group, so my stepping down as CEO doesn't mean that I will be "out". In fact, I have been invited to join the Soundwide "Board of Directors" from January on! So from January on I will do my best to help the SW team to take ALL our brands to a new level, not just PA and BX. United in what we will do in the future, so we can inspire and empower Millions of creators around the globe to express themselves and reimagine the future of sound. "Letting go" is the hardest part of this transition for me. I have literally lived what I am doing 24/7, and 365 days per year, for MANY years. The first BX plugin was created in 2005/2006... and I cannot remember when I had the last vacation that didn't involve at least a few emails per day, or taking care of some social media tasks, the occasional call / video conference from the hotel room etc. Going forward I will be happily representing Soundwide as a whole, but I believe the time has come for a new generation to bring in their ideas and run the ship day to day. Again, what a run this has been. I feel blessed to be able to take a small step back now, knowing our employees, customers, partners, artists, fans and friends are in good hands with the new Management team. Official communication will go out via the various channels of all the brands and companies involved in the next few weeks, but I wanted to let my friends and closest followers already know about this, first hand. Thank you all for your continued support, and "Go Team Soundwide"! Dirk.

  22. Look Into My Eyes Happy New Year Cakewalk friends! I haven't been able to break thru writer's block the last month or so. I keep trying though. Here's another synth project with a lot of pitch bendy arps and general off the wall sounds. I decided to insert snippets of dialog from cheesy old movies into the project which may or may not have been a good idea. Anyway, here it is. Thanks for listening/comments. -Bjorn Zebra HZ Trilian Omnisphere Diva Kontakt

  24. Great deals. I own every piano library on sale. The only piano library on sale that I really don't care for is Singularis (which I picked up free last year). But if anyone is considering these and is wondering if libraries this inexpensive are good, they are very good. Some of their libraries, like the Small Studio Grand (now on sale), are available in the SFZ format, which you can use in the free Sforzando player. Otherwise, the other sale libraries require the full version of KONTAKT.

  27. Brilliant request, I totally agree! 🏆 Along similar lines, I've often thought it would be useful to be able to generate a "Plugin report" when working on a project, which would list all plugins and their versions that are in use.

  30. Here's my chance to post what this thread has been crying out for, a folk song about herring fishing. Back in 1960 Ewan MacColl was involved in a series of "Radio Ballads" . The radio ballads were the joint creation of Ewan MacColl, Charles Parker and Peggy Seeger. A radio ballad is a sound-tapestry woven of four basic elements: songs, instrumental music, sound effects and the recorded voices of those with whose lives each program deals. One of these radio ballads was "Singing the Fishing" about the rise and decline of the herring industry on the east coast of Scotland and East Anglia (Great Yarmouth in particular). My great grandfather was a herring fisherman from Great Yarmouth, and I have many fisherman and other mariners in my ancestry. Here's one of the songs that Ewan wrote for the program: Ewan MacColl & Peggy Seeger - North Sea Holes

  31. I was never a Kiss fan, not because I didn't like the music, I just wasn't. I do love seeing people who have great stories to tell. I also know how the past resonates throughout our lives. So long live all Kiss fans! Old Joad always finds the deep cuts.

  40. This is a great value (I think they ran the same deal a few months ago?) Of all the 8Dio libraries I own, this one gets the most use by far. It's not perfect, but I think you can do a lot with it, and for $50 its a great way for folks to venture into orchestral stuff without breaking the bank. I use the Legatos (mainly Legato I), as those patches are super-schmaltzy and in your face. The legato transitions are big and bold, and just outrageous to my ears. When I need an over-the-top string line they are my goto, and so they remain in my template even though I have a ton of other string libraries. I've never had any problems blending them with my other libraries, although it can take some eq work and careful mic adjustment. I don't like the shorts, as they just don't sound natural to my ears. The trems and pizz are useable, although I have better options that I'd turn to first before I fired up the Anthology versions. The chamber patches have never really interested me, and the solo string patches are way less playable than my other solo string libs, so I never use them. But if all you had is Anthology, all of the above could be made to work pretty well. It's a lot of library for $50, regardless of its rough areas and age spots. Just my two cents. As always, workflow and library preferences are pretty personal thing and so YMMV. Rob

  42. Just to add to @Lord Tim's solution... If you first save the tracks from the old project as a track template, insert the track template into the new project, then copy the tracks from the old project on to the tracks you created via the template, you'll preserve any automation/routing from the old project. The selection in the old project will be preserved during the process, so: In the old project: 1. Select the tracks you want to transfer over 2. Save as a track template In the new project: 3. Insert the track template you saved in step 2 In the old project: 4. Copy Special In the new project: 5. Click on the first track inserted by the track template to make it the active track, and make sure the Now Time is at time zero 6. Paste Special In some cases, you might get extra blank tracks created at the end of your tracks - you can just delete these.
