  2. When I moved to Seattle in 1972, I was pleasantly surprised to find a lively and long-established local music scene. There were literally hundreds of live music venues to play at and dozens of recording studios. Today you'd have to go to Austin or Nashville to find an environment like that. But in the 60's every city had its own circuit and its own superstars. A few of those local favorites managed to bust out of the Pacific Northwest and go national and international, which is how I knew who some of them were before coming to town. One of the biggest was The Ventures, although by '72 they had already relocated to Los Angeles and their style became mostly associated with Southern California and inspired many copycats there. Playing in my first bands in Nebraska, we assumed The Ventures and the Beach Boys were neighbors who grew up surfing. Neither of them actually did. The main thing I took away from this documentary was the realization that The Ventures, for all their innovation, was really a cover band. I'd been unaware, for example, that Walk Don't Run was originally lifted from a Chet Atkins record. Another interesting snippet was the criteria for being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: At least 25 years since first release Possess a significant body of work Significant influence on the development of rock 'n roll I couldn't help wondering how some of the more recent inductees qualified under those criteria, e.g. Eminem, Run-DMC, Madonna, Tupac. Meanwhile true rock innovators like The Ventures had to wait almost 50 years for their nomination. I think 250 albums qualifies as a "significant body of work".

  5. 😀 Steven Wright is the master.... I bought some powdered water, but I don't know what to add. In Las Vegas I had a furious argument about what I considered to be an odd number. I went into a place to eat and it said breakfast any time....so I ordered french toast during the renaissance.

  7. Hi @Leok85 The thing that makes BIAB great is that they have RealTracks, which are actual recordings by various studio musicians. They are 2 bar and 4 bar and one bar. The program uses Algorithms to make them create realistic arrangements from your chord progression. You can create your own style by taking any of the RealTracks they've released and combining them, for example, two guitars, bass, piano, fiddle, drums, etc. You kind of have to know what you're doing to do that. Each new version of BIAB has more RealTracks and includes styles that show them off. Combinations of Realtracks, perfectly mixed and ready to use. I mainly use the styles that come with the program. The Xtra Styles are just that--more styles. For me, the more the merrier. If you watch my video you will see why. The Xtra Styles PAKs have no new Realtracks. They just combine the Realtracks in different ways. But the most recent versions of Xtra Styles PAKs require the latest versions of BIAB, because they use the latest RealTracks. I've never bought any of the XPro Styles. They are a product directed towards people who have a lesser version of BIAB than the Ultrapack. I hear they are different, but I've never felt the need to buy them. The 2023 Bonus 49Pak is an expensive Xtra Styles Pak. It goes for $49 and they go for $29 during the sale. I used to think you had to buy these bonus packs when the new version is released, but I now am not sure. A customer service person from PGMusic told me that if you don't buy one it just gets folded into the following year's upgrade. Somebody else got a different response. In the future I won't but the $49 pak and how those styles turn up in the following year's update. Of course I'll always be a year behind, but I would like to not waste $49. PGMusic has demos of all the XtraStyles paks, so you can decide what you want. Hope this helps!

  15. Only got round to installing this today, so I'm somewhere beyond fashionably late to the party, but this really is quite something for a freebie. Anyone who has seen the offer and thought.....meh, I can't be bothered with any more freebies should think again. The "Put this after your reverbs" preset I just tried on a track certainly brought something new and pleasing to it.

  29. Two bands I always liked! 🙂👍 This song has a Gary Numan vibe to it I think! ------------------- You've got me listening to the two albums I've got from them (Waking Hour and InGladAloneness). Personally, I think that their name is one of those that's not the best choice for searches (and file folders)! Discogs has them under both "Dali's" as well as "Dalis" which just sounds weird.

  32. If you can find a cheap copy of the "XCHANGE Recording Software Collection" it includes the PSP 85 as part of that bundle, just make sure you get the right collection that includes the PSP 85, as they did two or three collections, the PSP 85 is in the "Recording" one. That's how I got my copy, although it was some time ago and I did have to contact Xchange to get my serials/registration info. Just a thought.

  35. I am from Japan and have a lot of weeb friends and One Ok Rock is quite well known amongst them I thought. I am not a fan of ONE OK ROCK nor like their songs but they resurrected my favorite Japanese band which had been on long haiatus. Also their favorite bands are my favorite bands too (mostly American bands though) If I remember correctly, one of their albums was mixed by a very famous American (I think) mixing engineer who usually mix ITB and had mixed for top artists, such as Katy Perry. They must have had the greatest production imaginable. No wonder the sound quality was quite good and modern unlike other Japanese bands back then. My favorite Japanese punk band which they made reunited, had their latest album recorded at Sunset Sound in California. I am just sharing this because I am their fan...

  36. Listened to all three versions. And I still like the Ventures version. Has more energy. That's not taking anything away fromChet or Johnny. I really like both thier versions too. I am just a little partial to the Ventures. I remember hearing this song for the first time on a school bus on our way to school (not many buses had a radio in the back then!). Being a aspiring drummer, this was the best song I had ever heard.

  48. it's likely that few people would notice single vs double float processing - i believe in the old forum someone had done some tests with reverb tails tapering more nicely on the double float but it was also specifically testing for it versus what it would be in normal material. since the 64-bit option has been there in SONAR and CbB, i always have it checked. i'm perfectly comfortable using 64-bit processing 🙂. i just don't use any type of float when processing overnight fed fund currency swaps 😉 as a note, i generally export either 48K or 44.1K @ 24-bit, no dither WAV. subsequent processing via Ozone 9 which may or may not use double float to render 44.1K 16-bit WAV and MP3.
