  4. Santa Claus is coming... to eat your soul! Seriously, who approved this godawful nightmare of a graphic? It's about the most off-putting thing I think I've ever seen in promo email. A (human) Santa in BDSM gear would be less disturbing. Instant delete, do not want!

  5. Loopcloud has updated to version 7 BUT apparently if you are a free user, the desktop app no longer works at all. See below. I let my sub lapse in October because I didn't use it enough. The app is pretty great if you are heavily into loops and samples, and don't mind paying a subscription. If I recall correctly, version 5 was completely free and version 6 kept the good features behind a paywall. Now V 7 is subscription only. They say you can still access your owned content from a web page. Following is a snip from the Loopcloud update notes. Update with caution if you still use the desktop app. In the past they deleted older versions from their download offers, so if you don't already have the V6 installer, you might never get it back. Note bold line (emphasis mine, and they conveniently leave this out of their blog announcement) at the end. Important: Read about the major changes in Loopcloud 7 in our blog article Version 7 Loopcloud 7 features a major visual overhaul and many performance enhancements. Users now start on a search landing page, showing them instrument categories they can start their search with, or buttons to see all packs or collections. Users can click on one of the circle buttons to start their search, or use the search bar. The home page is now Explore. This is where users can go to discover new releases, the current bestsellers, curated label and genre packs, and packs for DRUM and PLAY. The Explore page now features two new rows - What's Hot, and Label Focus. The search results experience, including Tag Suggestions for instruments, to help the user filter down their search to a more specific tag, content types to prompt the user to choose either Loops or One Shots, and genres. The genres shown in the tag suggestions are based on what the user commonly searches for, to help personalise their search. Search results are now separated by tabs, so users can decide whether they want to see results from the Store, content from their Library, whole packs, or collections containing content they've searched for. If users want to see all the tags available to them, they can click on the Tags Sidebar, which will show all tags in a tree view. We've introduced the mini editor, which will be the default for all users until they decide they need the additional functionality of the full editor. This allow users to reclaim valuable screen real estate, while still being able to preview their single file or full mix with the core functionality of Loopcloud. The full editor has had a visual overhaul. We've moved some options to the menus in the top-left of the app, nested tools that don't all need to be seen at once, and removed some visual elements that aren't necessary. The Loopcloud desktop app is no longer available to use for non-subscribers. Purchased sounds and packs will still be available to download from sounds.loopcloud.com/library/, however all in-app features will be disabled for free users. Removed the legacy 'blue' theme, and set the 'Neutral Dark' theme as the default.

  12. I was a big fan of Winamp back in the days, and I often miss the simplicity. I am an album kind of guy, so for me, playlists were an exception and a spur of the moment thing rather than the norm, but when I did use them, I liked the simplicity and the flexibility Winamp afforded me. Unlike iTunes, you could just drag and drop MP3s in the playlist on the fly and Winamp would stream them from your HD. You could change the order, delete, add, drag and drop entire folders - all on the fly. It was a very intuitive process. They did a beta port to Mac but it was never as good. iTunes insists on importing the media before playing it, so if you want to audition a bunch of files, it's a rather cumbersome process. I took the habit of simply clicking the file to preview it directly in the OS finder. It will play the whole file just fine but you must do it one file at a time and thre's no volume control. I liked iTunes as a mean to curate my offline music collection (as long as it doesn't wipe all the album covers in an update). Instead of having a Music directory with folders for every album, you could browse your collection by album cover in iTunes. Which was nice. That being said, it's hard to believe that it's been plagued with the same issues for over a decade - albums getting split for no apparent reason was probably my main pet peeve. You'd see the same album cover twice in your collection and realize that one of them had all the songs but the 2nd and the 7th, which were separated and listed as a different album - by the same artist, with the same title and album cover. iTunes has now been replaced by music, but this type of behavior persists. And yeah, the duplicate/incorrect album covers... And this is not the worst - at least these are Iron Maiden albums. But how does THIS happen? Now that I have finally started streaming music, I do find it handy to have my music accessible and updated automatically on every device. And I have found this player called Elmedia Player which behaves quite like Winamp used to. But I was so used to Winamp that nothing can really replace it.

  20. I left Loopcloud when they stopped allowing user content to be included in libraries (I think version 6). It was a nice product until then. I actually sent them a message about how much I thought it was a bad decision. They actually had the gall to respond to tell me it was a "requested feature" to remove the ability to have content outside of Loopcloud in the app. I told them they were full of crap, and that I would never buy from Loopcloud becuase of it. (Get off my lawn!!!) I bought Sononym instead.

  22. That sounds like a cut at a non-zero crossing. When the clip is cut at a point where the waveform isn't exactly silence, it produces a click. SONAR (and any DAW or audio editor) does the same thing. Make sure in Preferences > Snap to grid > Snap to Nearest Audio Zero Crossing is checked: https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Dialogs2.077.html I'd also recommend crossfading clips together and doing slight fades at the start and at the end of each section too, as an added protection against any rogue clicks.

  25. It turned out there were quite a few to make a note of! For the production side it was: Drums: A whole heap of oneshot samples! Also funny to think that with lots of expensive synths I went with a free one for the bulk of it! Although technically I did pay for it and get the plus version to lend some support to his project 🙂 Mixdown Mixdown was done in Harrison Consoles Mixbus32C with some of the same plugins mentioned and then: SPL Iron Amethyst4 by Acustica Audio SPL Vitalizer Cream2 by Acustica Audio BX 9000J SSL console IK T-Racks Master EQ 432 XT-CC Console Compressor I somewhat found it interesting reflecting back on what options I chose for the various parts as I hadn't done that since finishing it 🙂

  32. Have a 2021 MacBook Pro (to support clients) I'm the only one who sees/uses my computers. Having to enter a password every time I make a change (load a driver, etc) is a PITA. Having to verify my identity across devices is extremely annoying. The wife and I have two iPhones, three iPADs, and said laptop. Then... as a PC user, there's the abomination that is iTunes (crap substitute for proper drag/drop file management). Apple is all about control... their control I don't like my machines/gear getting in the way of my work/data. I don't care about any cult-of-personality (Microsoft, Gates, Apple, Jobs, etc). I see iPhone as the lesser of two evils (vs Android). ie: I often have to text video back/forth with bandmates. With Android, video is compressed so much it's useless.

  33. Getting songs in and out of iTunes was a PITA. With Windows, it's just drag and drop to the appropriate folder (which you decide). ------ When I had that iPad, I went to Australia, took 800 pictures on my Panasonic Lumix camera. For Windows, I just dragged and dropped them from the camera to a folder. Ctrl-A highlighted them all, drag and drop the bunch, and it sat there and worked without me paying attention. I could not get them from my camera into my iPad. I wanted to bring the best of them to show my sisters when I was having dinner with them. Since the Luimix didn't have some kind of Apple proprietary interface and/or code, they wouldn't go. So I got a FireWire to USB cable, hoping to get them from my Windows PC to the iPad. They wouldn't go directly. Searched the Internet and couldn't find a solution. So I uploaded them one at a time to a folder on my website, and downloaded them to the iPad. Very time-consuming. What happened in minutes in Windows, took hours and hours plus constant attention to get them to the iPad. I now have a Samsung Galaxy. I like it much better than the iPad. Ctrl-A, drag and drop, and they move all by themselves. I can't see myself buying another Apple product, until they learn to play with the standards everyone else uses. They make nice hardware, the OS is fine, but Apple just doesn't play well with others. Apple calls it an ecosystem, I call it Apple Jail. On the other hand, there are a lot of people quite happy with Apple products, so obviously they are doing something right. There is more than one right way to do almost anything. 37. And just a reminder for anyone that upgraded to V Collection 9 that hasn't downloaded the new preset banks yet. Look in Analog Lab for the "Store" tab and you will see all of the preset banks that are available for VC9 users. Any that show "owned" status but not installed yet can be installed by clicking on them.

  38. My first reaction is that Keepforest (since Evolution Dragon) has been a pioneer in making it super easy to make trailer music. But still, these are toolkits for muscians and sound designers. They don't make the trailer music--they just save time. But AI doesn't just help composers. It has the potential to replace a lot of them. A lot of producers just don't want to pay for things. A trailer editor with AI traukwe nyaux software can easily turn in the job. Until they make AI to replace the editor. 😕

Christ alive, why is Apple kit so damned unintuitive and why do they have to make everything so painful and difficult to do? 🙄 Give me a PC or Android any day of the week - at least then, I feel like I'm actually in control.
