  1. Just found this and it's still working. No idea for how long though. The link is here: https://www.falkemedia-download.de/webdvd-0421/ It's in German. Just click the blue JETZT GRATIS LADEN box, then in next screen check both boxes and put in your email address. The serial number will be sent to you.

  2. Not a deal: Just had one of my tracks played on the radio tonight for the first time, so buzzing a little 🙂 Edit: Adding links (still semi reluctantly!) to the track on the various platforms after a few people requested to hear it 😊 https://linktr.ee/disorderlyconductor

  6. HIDEAWAY STUDIO --- Some Classics Hideaway Studio is a small developer of Kontakt sample instruments that are very reasonably priced. Some of them can be seen as real classics. Here are my favorites: The Blue Zone 01-25 Special Edition This collection of samples wrapped into Kontakt instruments is excellent for pads and has been a secret weapon for producers for a long time. The sounds were generated using a huge collection of esoteric (analog) components, and the resulting material is nothing but outstanding. As I cannot and do not want to afford Omnisphere, I went searching for alternative sources of pad sounds and came up with this 25 part library. As it turned out, it is also an excellent learning resource which contains some documentation on how the sounds were made. Available at Lootaudio. The collection has been on sale this year (40% off I think), so it might be a good idea to wait. The String Collection I & II These two products are a must if you are into string machines. Kontakt layering makes it possible to create own flavors from the samples. Being a collector of string machine stuff, these two libraries are my go-to. Just take a look at the reviews of other people who also hold the collections in very high regard. And if you are a bit of a collector like me, you can also take a look at The Orbitone Collection I and II. Bass Machine I know there are lots of bass samples aroung, but if you are just looking for good sounds in Kontakt format, this might be the solution. You can grab it when it's on sale. === The stuff mentioned above is available at Lootaudio and other resellers such as Pluginboutique and JRRshop. As I mentioned above, it may be a good idea to wait for a sale and also grab one of the freebies that some shops offer. All the libraries need full Kontakt. I will add other vendors over the next few days. Hideaway, however, is one of my absolute favourites.

  8. FWIW...I didn't mean to hijack this thread, but just wanted to point out what an incredible feeling it is to be "on the radio" for the first time, so much so in fact that it's still one of the highlights of life 42 years later

  9. Larry, spend the 10 bucks, create an audio file, and upload your 80s song on SoundCloud and at least share it with me and you can share a story about it! My kids were born after my an injury put an end to my musician days, so they only hear stories every so often. I have posters somewhere, but my best story? It's like the dad who was a football star in HS that keeps talking about his glory days. I took the lead singer and keyboardist of the most popular band I played in to see Jimmy Chamberlain play drums in another project he was in right before the Pumpkins broke big. During the break, Jimmy walks up to me in front of my bandmates and says, "I know you, you've been one of my favorite drummers on the Chicago scene for a long time!" and he also names the band we play in. I thought I was being pranked and then he names the first band he saw me play in -- several years earlier --and I only played in that band for a matter of months. So, that's the closest I am came to hearing a song I was on play on the radio! I met a lot of famous drummers back then through other musicians and I knew a lot of Chicago rock drummers and we'd hang out when we'd meet up because we all loved checking out other musicians. But that was the only time I was recognized by a drummer I really enjoyed who was part of a band that became incredibly popular. That's my best story. And now I'm a business guy. Sad.

  10. Man, if you don't have a copy, you absolutely should! The most popular band I was in had cut a record with their previous drummer before I joined the band and never went into the studio during my years with the band. We'd play the venues I always dreamed of playing and colleges throughout the Midwest, but I wasn't part of the band's records, as I replaced the original drummer. So it was cool to be heading into a place for a soundcheck and hear the band you're in on the radio, but when you weren't part of the recording, you feel a bit like a sideman. Funny thing though. we played a lot of colleges all over the Midwestern US and more than a decade later, I was speaking at UChicago for the first time out of several times and it struck me, I played drums at a show there and I was a business speaker. Spoiler: it was a lot more fun to be a drummer.

  11. I remember the first time having a track played on WWWW Radio Station (called W4) here in Detroit! We released it on 45! It was a HUGE DEAL for us LOL Especially back in 1980! Craig St. James was the DJ and I was sitting in the Radio Studio with him! Ah the memories! The two songs were entitled: "Someone's There" and "I'm Back"

  13. APD HQ: Dateline December 2022 Sales Meeting Minutes... Item 1.How to increase sales in 2023 ? Bean Counter Guy: It's taking me less and less time to count the beans these days. Obviously this is the fault of....well we can't mention that or we'll upset someone and it wouldn't be true anyway, so let's just say that we need more beans and there are no beans to spend on achieving this. Any ideas people ? Marketing Guy: Well, as you know there's a lot of competition in the market place for old rope and just lowering the falsely inflated prices for our old rope doesn't seem to work as well as it used to. It's almost as if people have seen through it now. BCG: I asked for ideas not excuses. MG: Well, I'm just making this up as I go along, so bear with me..........how about we get people to pay up front for nothing but the future possibility of being able to buy some old rope from us at a further made up discount every single month and if they still don't buy any old rope , we'll............ just keep their money anyway? BCG: I like it !

  16. all the Liquidsonics stuff is brilliant - support is first rate too. Also the very best loyalty scheme in the business in my opinion. All your loyalty voucher stack and so when new stuff is released you get it for, basically, peanuts. If you're buying more than one product it might be worth buying one-by-one so that you can use the vouchers sequentially if that makes sense ?

  17. Thanks Erik! You have touched on an interesting point for me too.. I think part of the reluctance to share on here, is partially because of all the experience and knowledge everyone else has and that there are a lot of accomplished musicians here as well. I do understand a lot of the techniques and can easily hear what I like when it comes to all of the tools, instruments and everything, but I'm still very much green and just starting out with production, so I just tend to feel it's not good enough to share if I'm being fully open. But maybe this is one of those growth moments where I just need to push myself out of my comfort zone and rip the bandaid off! Here's my Linktree if anyone did want to give it a listen on whichever streaming platform they prefer. It has socials too if anyone wanted to follow along as well 🙂 https://linktr.ee/disorderlyconductor I love your story too Erik and I really hope that happens for you too!

  18. I love Neural plug-ins, first of all. In the case of ReValver, I find the dynamics are actually on par with Neural plug-ins which is amazing when you consider just how long ReValver has been around. like BFD3, it’s suffered from a lack of investment and modernizing, but the variety of amps is extensive, as are the number of effects, some of which are unique. I take ReValver’s 6505 models over any similar models. They’re stellar. I always use 3rd party IR’s which helps most amp sims in general. That said, Neural plug-ins are easy to dial in and a joy to navigate. If ReValver had a better overall user experience, I’d probably use it the most, although it does lack some key amp heads vs. it’s competition. At $29, I’ve never seen a better value for an all-in amp sim suite, but understand folk’s concerns with its age. As with BFD3, I’m hopeful that ReValver gets some love—it was my first amp sim and I would be happy to make it my last. I’m really tired of chasing tones when there are perfectly good ones here today, especially when it comes to placing them in a mix. Does it replace Nolly, Gojira, and Pliny? No, but I don’t think it would take much outside of creating a better user experience and adding a few bells and whistles. As it is, I go to it often when I need an all-around suite of amps and effects, and the 3rd party plugin integration is one of the reasons why. Much easier on CPU than Neural and Softube, too.

  19. Larry, we're in the deals forum in a thread that has nothing to do with deals in a place where we all go on tangents -- me being a major offender. But why is actually not a bad thing? Why is actually a really good thing? Because it reveals how we connect. We understand. We relate. We care. We're celebrating MusicMan's success and remembering our own fond moments. I'd put money on it that @MusicMan enjoys all of it, because he knows that we're happy for him and it resonates (please chime in and share your thoughts!). I love seeing you and others share your stories and it's fun to share my old stories that my kids have already heard (whenever a Pumpkins song is on the radio, so Im sure it inspires them to want to quickly change the channel before I tell the story again!). All of this camaraderie is what I makes me so fond of this community. I'm not just here for the deals. It's my outlet to geek out on all things music related.

  21. It's my favorite among the ujam electric basses. As you can tell by the illustration, it's their version of a Hofner. And I find the ujam drag-and-drop MIDI to be very easy to use. You drag it off the top of the keys. Regular stuff on the white keys and fills on the black keys. A few drags and you can figure out what you want to do in your DAW.

  23. Big congrats dude. With all the algos and stuff these days, it’s quite an accomplishment. My band’s self-released 45 from the 80s is more popular today than it ever was when we first made it. I think a copy went for $2k recently. 😲 Collectors are crazy.

  24. A Curated List of the Best Free Sample Libraries (for free sample players) and Free Soft Synths All libraries have been reviewed and a brief review is listed for each library. Finding free sample libraries is easy these days. Finding really high quality sample libraries that sound good and play well is a lot more challenging. It commonly means sorting through a lot of -- I'll be kind -- less than great sample libraries. That's why I thought it would be helpful to the community to create a curated list of RECOMMENDED free sample libraries that play in a free sample players. This list only includes libraries that I have used and find worthy of recommendation. Many of these libraries, while very good to excellent, often aren't meticulously detailed and ingeniously scripted like better paid sample libraries. But that level of detail may not even matter for your purposes. I invite others to post libraries that play in free sample players that they have used and can personally recommend. I'll update this list periodically and welcome suggestions for making it more convenient for people. I've also added free soft synths and invite others to add and discuss their favorites, likes and dislikes. Of course, my choices reflect my style, personal taste and the genres I play, so I hope we can get recommendations from others in order to represent a wide range of styles/genres. I mostly play rock, so if you play/produce other styles, we can especially use your input. ⭐ =Highly recommended favorites. ⭐ ⭐ =My highest recommendation. I think this is the best-sounding, deep sampled free acoustic drum plugin on the market. It includes a mixer and beats. It's a no-brainer to install and download, IMO. FORMAT: DEVELOPER'S FREE PROPRIETARY PLAYER https://stevenslatedrums.com/ssd5/#SSD5FREE BFD Player ⭐ ⭐ I think this is easily one of the best FREE acoustic drum plugins on the market, but I don't really love the presets and I'm not in love with the sound of the snare drum samples, so I'm only giving this two stars as a freebie. Personally, I deleted it from my hard drive shortly after going through the sounds and trying it in a production. The snare drum sounds thin and the heavy effects on most of the presets overwhelm the snare, it just gets lost in the mix. Still, these are 5GB of deep sampled drums with a built in mixer -- it's not extensive, but you can always route the outputs to use your own effects and mix the drums exactly as you like, and that's a pretty nice option for a free deep sampled acoustic drum kit; but it's also a bit of work. BFD Player also works with a large number of electronic drum kits and features more than 300 beats. I don't think it sounds as good or as professional as Steven Slate Drums, but it has enough going for it for a free drum plugin, that I'm still giving it my highest rating. Download it and judge for yourself. https://www.bfddrums.com/drum-software/bfd-player.html The Creative Toolbox: Drums and Percussion ⭐ ⭐ An acoustic drum kit, two drum machines (Roland TR08 and Behringer RD6) and percussion (bongos, congas, castanets, shakers, agogo, clave, chimes, cowbell and rototoms. FORMAT: FREE KONTAKT PLAYER https://www.strezov-sampling.com/products/view/the-creative-toolbox-drums-and-percussion.html IK Modo Drum Kit 1.5 ⭐ ⭐ A realy nice sounding hybrid modeled/sampled drum kit. FORMAT: DEVELOPER'S FREE PROPRIETARY PLAYER https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/mododrum/#nl_form_area Spitfire Labs Drums and VIntage Drums ⭐ ⭐ I love the sound of this drum library. The only down side is that it only has two toms. The 1975 kit also sounds really good and has three toms. FORMAT: LABS PLAYER (SPITFIRE) https://labs.spitfireaudio.com/?sortBy=prod_products_labs_latest Orange Tree Samples free Funk Drum Kit Sample Library ⭐ ⭐ A nice little jazz/funk drum kit. It sounds good. FORMAT; SFZ https://www.orangetreesamples.com/blog/free-jazz-funk-drum-sample-library Soft Drums ⭐ This is a really nice, very usable traditional drum kit sample library. The drums are hit softly using Promark Broomsticks, which gives a sound like when a rock drummer plays hard with brushes, giving the drums a thwack type sound! I think these would be very useful for indie or folk rock. FORMAT: DECENT SAMPLER https://www.pianobook.co.uk/packs/soft-drums/ Lorenzo's Drums ⭐ I love this small drum kit. It just has a great sound to it. The caveat is that the hi hat doesn't close properly. If you can deal with that, I think the sound of this is really special. FORMAT: DECENT SAMPLER https://www.pianobook.co.uk/packs/lorenzos-drums-v1/ ML Drums Free A complete drum kit using the developer's plugin. FORMAT: Developer's Proprietary Plugin https://ml-sound-lab.com/products/ml-drums-free Drum Gizmo This entry is the exception to the rest of the list. I haven't used this library. It was recommended to me by a very talented KONTAKT developer who uses it. Based on his recommendation, I am adding it to the list. Drum Giznmo is a drum sample player system and a series of acoustic drum sample libraries. I am told that they are good to very quality. Note that the kits are unprocessed, so you'll need to apply your own effects, which is desirable for some and less desirable for others. https://www.drumgizmo.org/wiki/doku.php?id=start ELECTRIC PIANOS Fracture Sounds: Blueprint Electric Keys ⭐ ⭐ A beautiful, and well-sampled 1969 Rhodes Mark I Electric Piano library that's, unquestionably, good enough to be a paid library. It allows you to adjust the key noise. It doesn't have a bunch of presets, but it lets you choose between direct input and amped and has controls for stereo spread, reverb, chorus, and atmosphere. It's pretty obvious to see the developer's rationale for giving this away free. Once you use it, you'll be interested in their other libraries. FORMAT: FREE KONTAKT 7 Player https://fracturesounds.com/product/blueprint-electric-keys/ The Electro-Acoustic ⭐⭐ Samples of an acoustic piano and Fender Rhodes electric piano layered. For a free sample library, this is really nice done and contains several patches. The samplist that made this clearly put some heart into it and it shows. FORMAT: DECENT SAMPLER https://www.pianobook.co.uk/packs/worlitzer/ Wurli A modest Wurli library. FORMAT: DECENT SAMPLER https://www.pianobook.co.uk/packs/anne-marie-the-hohner-t/ GUITARS and BASS IK MODO Bass ⭐⭐ This isn't a sample library, it's a modeled bass plugin, but it sounds very good, and is lightweight. It emulates a 1960's Fender Precision Bass. For free, I think this is highest quality choice for an electric bass guitar. FORMAT: DEVELOPER'S FREE PLUGIN https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/modobass2/?pkey=modo-bass-2-cs Heavyocity Foundations Nylon Guitar ⭐ A beautiful-sounding nylon guitar. FORMAT: FREE KONTAKT PLAYER https://heavyocity.com/product/foundations-nylon-guitar/ Ample Guitar M Lite ⭐ I don't actually use this, as I primarily use Orange Tree Samples libraries and sometimes supplement them with NI's Session Guitarist when I'm first working on a song. But I have tried it and can recommend it as a free instrument. It's an excellent quality free plugin/sample library and in my experience, it's the best quality free acoustic guitar library available. FORMAT: DEVELOPER'S FREE PROPRIETARY PLAYER https://www.amplesound.net/en/pro-pd.asp?id=7 Ample Bass P Lite ⭐ For sampled electric and acoustic bass guitars, I'm completely set with Orange Tree Samples libraries, but I have tried this out and think for free, it's the best quality free electric bass library that I am aware of. FORMAT: DEVELOPER'S FREE PROPRIETARY PLAYER https://www.amplesound.net/en/pro-pd.asp?id=19 RJS Electric Guitar ⭐ A sampled Stratocaster electric guitar with the following patches: long notes with vibrato, palm muted notes, dead notes and feedback. Impressive. https://www.pianobook.co.uk/packs/rjs-guitar/ MELLOTRON Plogue Sforzatron (Mellotron Sample Library) ⭐ ⭐ Some of the most popular Mellotron samples including cello, celli, strings, flute, woodwind sections, string sections, choir, pads, koto, and steel drums. The sample libraries were taken from the fantastic and freely distributed Taji Guy Mellotron samples that have been available online for two decades. This is easily as good as a commercial Mellotron library. In fact, if this wasn't free and I paid, say $35 USD for the library, I would be extremely satisfied with my purchase. This is one of my all time favorite freebies. FORMAT: Sforzando https://www.plogue.com/products/sforzando-banks.html ORCHESTRAL BBC Symphony Orchestra Discover ⭐ ⭐ A complete orchestra that sounds very good. It's not up to the level of a paid high end orchestral library, but it's amazingly good for a completely free orchestral library and it is pretty small in size in terms of data and won't tax on your computer resources. FORMAT: DEVELOPER'S FREE PROPRIETARY PLAYER https://www.spitfireaudio.com/bbc-symphony-orchestra-discover The Free Orchestra by PROJECTSAM ⭐ ⭐ A collection of orchestral related libraries including a choir, strings, and organ. It all sounds beautiful. FORMAT: FREE KONTAKT PLAYER https://projectsam.com/libraries/the-free-orchestra/ The Free Orchestra 2 a by PROJECTSAM ⭐ ⭐ Project Sam's Free Orchestra series continues as each month, starting in late 2023, they've been releasing a new free library for their Free Orchestra 2 collection. As I write this, they're on month two and have strings and brass. Everything this developer puts out his very high quality. Their freebies, IMO, are must-haves. Great stuff. It sounds great and it's a lot of fun to play around with. B3 perfectionists won't be satisfied, but it sounds really good and for the price (free), I don't think anything matches it. Listen to it yourself. FORMAT: DEVELOPER'S FREE PROPRIETARY PLUGIN https://sampleson.com/collab3-free-tonewheel-organ.html Cassette Tape Organ A lofi cassette recording of a Wurlitzer organ that has a very Mellotron type vibe to it. I absolutely love this library. A lot of samplists attempt to get that Mellotron lofi vibe and, IMO, most don't hit the mark. This one does. Very well executed. https://www.pianobook.co.uk/packs/cassette-tape-organ/ PERCUSSION World Colors Clar-Duduk by Evolution Series ⭐ ⭐ A very well sampled clar-duduk library. FORMAT: LABS PLAYER (SPITFIRE) https://labs.spitfireaudio.com/?sortBy=prod_products_labs_latest Cello Moods ⭐⭐ While this library -- and none of the Spitfire Labs libraries -- have a bunch of velocity layers I would expect in a paid library, it sounds beautiful and for a free library, is well worth having. The samplist created 5 patches from samples of wine glasses: melodic ‘ping’; a soft pad; a set of percussive sounds; a synth; and a textural pad. FORMAT: DECENT SAMPLER https://www.pianobook.co.uk/packs/wine-glass-tool-kit/ Mini African Xylophone True to its name. I don’t do hip hop music, I sound bad enough singing rock, but if I did do hip hop, I think this could be especially useful. https://www.pianobook.co.uk/packs/distant-brass/ MULTIPLE INSTRUMENT PACKAGES These are multiple sample libraries from a developer that include different sampled instruments. Native Instruments KOMPLETE START ⭐⭐ If you’re on a tight budget or no budget, download this. If you don’t have anything from Native Instruments, you need to! If KONTAKT, UVI or SampleTank have this level of capabilities to create your own presets, I'm not aware of it. I've heard developers compare it to Omnisphere. I wanted to create a list of their free Decent Sampler libraries I find worth recommending. These are often smaller, simpler sample libraries than the ones made for KONTAKT. https://www.decentsamples.com/product-category/publishers/decent-samples/ Free Decent Sampler Formated Sample Libraries on Pianobook I made this list when going through each library opened in my DAW, so you’ll need to search Pianobook to find them. Simply use the site’s search function with the library name. I’ll try to update this later and add links in the future. Busy Bee Analog Oscilator A nice simple analog synth patch, actually two, one is lofi and I like it. Classic Dance Synth This is your classic 80s House Piano sound. If that’s what you’re looking for, download and install this. Cream Soda Atmos Pad Antoher very pad that I like that has a very slow attac. Guffland Ukulele This isn’t an Orange Tree Samples kind of detailed sample library. It’s very simple. But the ukulele has a lovely tone. Ideal Bouzouki Nice, simple. Worth installing. Multiple articulations. I love the plucked and fingered patch. If you’re not concerned about emulating the sampled instrument, the plucked and fingered patch has a harpsichord like quality about it. Melodic Ping - Wine Glass Tool Kit Nicely sampled wine glass hits. Mixing Bowl ⭐ It sounds cool. It’s bold. It’s fun. I like it. Musical Stones It’s basically a xylophone featuring stones. It’s nice but the samples are a bit noisy. Still I like the character of the tone of the instrument and the noise doesn’t put me off as I see it as a bit lofi. Rob’s Andean Quena Flute Think lofi Mellotron flute. I really like this. Saraswati Vena Simple, nice. I like it. Shivering Keys A really interesting lofi analog piano that almost sounds like it could work in a horror soundtrack, but I think it’s slightly too sweet for that. Shivering Waves A lofi pad that sounds a bit like Shivering Keys in a pad. Signals Sound effects that are perfect for sci-fi. St Kathrin’s Bell It sounds great, like a church bell. But there’s a lot of noise in the samples. Synimer ⭐ A very 80s/synthwave-type pad that sounds very good. I don’t know the song, but it sounds a lot like the synth pad from one of the songs in the 80s movie, “Breakfast Club.” Timpani Hits Nicely sampled, good sounding timpani hits. RECOMMENDED FREE SOFT SYNTH PLUGINS Vital ⭐⭐ VItal is a free spectral warping wavetable synth and it is superb. I like it better than most of my paid synths. If you use soft synths, this is a must have, a total no-brainer. There is a paid version for $25 USD with 250 presets and another version for $80 USD with more than 400 presets. All of them are well recommended by the community. But the free version works with third-party presets that you can find at the site's forum and all over the interwebs. Just stop right now and get this! Also, see below for my link to site with tons of free patches / presets for VITAL and other soft synths. https://vital.audio/ Surge XT ⭐⭐ While Vital is my absolute favorite free soft synth, and maybe my favorite soft synth period, Surge is my second favorite free soft synth. It is a hybrid synthesizer. Roger Linn uses it -- and you can get it for free. Why are you still reading this??? Just get it!!! https://surge-synthesizer.github.io/ Helm ⭐⭐ A great sounding virtual analog synth. https://tytel.org/helm/ SynthMaster Player ⭐⭐ I love it! I started with Synthmaster Player and ended up buying their Synthmaster One and Synthmaster Two synths. https://www.kv331audio.com/synthmasterplayer.aspx Pendulate ⭐⭐ All things music related are subjective, but monosynth just sounds great to my ears and if you don't agree, you're clearly wrong. https://www.eventideaudio.com/plug-ins/pendulate/ Togu TAL-Noisemaker ⭐⭐ This free analog modeled soft synth has been around a long time, but it still sounds good to my ears. I'd call it a classic. There are a lot of really nice free presets for it. https://tal-software.com/ Synth 1 ⭐⭐ This is another classic virtual analog soft synth that's been around a long time, but is still worth having. There's a ton presets spread over the internet. https://daichilab.sakura.ne.jp/softsynth/index.html u-he Zebrelette ⭐⭐ u-he has a lot of hardcore fans of their soft synths showering praise on their soft synths, and they're worthy of that praise. https://u-he.com/products/zebralette/ Crystal ⭐⭐ Another older soft synth. It may not sound as modern as some of the others, but I still love it. https://www.greenoak.com/crystal/dnld2.html Dexed FM Plugin Synth ⭐ A soft synth closely modeled on the Yamaha DX7. If you like the sound of the DX7, you'll like this. https://asb2m10.github.io/dexed/ discoDSP - OB-Xd - An Oberheim Inspired Virtual Analog Synthesizer https://www.discodsp.com/obxd/ Cherry Audio Surrealistic MG-1 Plus | An emulation of a vintage Moog synth sold at Radio Shack. https://cherryaudio.com/products/surrealistic-mg-1-plus Voltage Modular Nucleus | Cherry Audio A free modular synth. It's not very intuitive, but what I've figured out sounds pretty good! https://store.cherryaudio.com/bundles/voltage-modular-nucleus kiloHearts One I bought this synth before they made it free. It's basic, but nice. https://kilohearts.com/docs/download_and_installation#khs_one BONUS: Free Presets / Patches for Vital and Other Soft Synths ⭐⭐ This site has a collection of presets / patches for Vital and many other soft synths and you'll find some very nice ones there that rival and even surpass the quality of patches in banks I've purchased. Warning though, this site has fresh patches for Vital up several times a week and it's easy to become addicted! https://presetshare.com/ This list will be regularly updated. I've also created a list of my favorite free sample libraries for KONTAKT:

  26. I think this would be a good companion thread to the one about freeware instruments in the "Instruments and Effects" forum started by @Starship Krupa, if the focus is on sample libraries. The main issue, if you can call it that, is unless a useful thread is "stickied" by a mod, it will eventually get buried and hard to find. I think it would be great if both threads were easily accessible.

  27. I read that Optical flow was brought into Vegas in version 17, so it will be in version 18 as well. Another good reason to get the HB version if your coming from version 16 or earlier. I've only got 16 but for slow motion, the best is to shoot for it in camera by cranking the frame rate, then just stretching it out on the timeline, the next best is some sort of interpolation, where the software generates new frames based on some AI type algorithm, it predicts what the frames should look like looking at the previous and next frames and generating new ones in between. I use a third party plugin for that, respeedr but there are others out there. This is what optical flow does apparently. From what I've read, it seems quite good and it's certainly going to be better than simply speeding a clip up or slowing it down, where the software is just duplicating or stripping existing frames. From memory though, Vegas has had an option for using interpolation in slow motion for a long time. I think I did use it but I've always used third party plugins or cranking the frame rate for slow motion. Magic mask looks interesting but it would be subject to the same problems all AI attempts at rotoscoping masks have, namely, not being able to discern between the background and the masked image when there is little difference in the colors of each. In Vegas you can do this by bezier masking and motion tracking, which does effectively the same thing, you will still have to tweak it though for a good result, it's had that for some time. Smart reframe looks interesting and seems to work well in Davinci from what I've read but I haven't used it. In Vegas you combine the pan/crop feature with key frames to achieve the same thing which is slower, but not that bad and you of course have manual control over it. Apparently, Vegas pro 18 also includes a new video denoise feature, another reason to get the 18 version I guess, don't know how well it works as I have 16 and use third party programs for that, neat video. Face refinement seems to be again, a travelling mask with automated features, from what I've read, it might be good for tiktok or youtube as a "beauty filter" but for film/doco, the manual masking is still preferred unless there is little movement on the talent. In Vegas, its the same thing with a travelling bezier mask containing what you want. Davinci's object removal I think is still considered experimental because it has unpredictable results. From what I've read about it, users are not convinced by it. Again, it might be ok for Tiktok/youtube but not for film/doco. It seems to leave artifacts around the mask area. A couple of more reasons to get the HB deal, with video noise reduction and optical flow being brought in if you are on 16 or earlier.

  28. My first reaction is that Keepforest (since Evolution Dragon) has been a pioneer in making it super easy to make trailer music. But still, these are toolkits for muscians and sound designers. They don't make the trailer music--they just save time. But AI doesn't just help composers. It has the potential to replace a lot of them. A lot of producers just don't want to pay for things. A trailer editor with AI traukwe nyaux software can easily turn in the job. Until they make AI to replace the editor. 😕

Decided to try again because, what the hay. Very (pleasantly) surprised that the charge was then accepted! 🙂 Think about $85 for Studio Pro + Kevin !!! Downloaded (zip files), but have not yet tried to install. @pseudopop I see that there are 3 (?!) serial numbers for each Studio Pro and Kevin? Any other install tips?

  36. Congratulations! And for heaven's sake, post a link to where we can listen to the song. I guarantee everyone in this thread is dying to hear it. You can't be shy any more, it's been on the radio! Not a popular genre? We're musicians, we can hear the quality in any kind of music. And I'll chime in with saying that the times I heard my band on the radio (or being played by the DJ in my favorite bar) were very special ones. And I hope to do it again, as indie rocker turned electronica guy. Soma.FM here we come (I hope).

  39. I've asked stupid questions many times in the past and I'm sure I'll have more stupid questions in the future and people here have been really helpful. I think coming here, because it's a very small group that posts very regularly, some lurkers might get the impression that it's click-ish -- and maybe it is and I'm unaware. But I've found the overwhelming majority of people here -- at a very high level for an online community -- are super friendly and welcoming. If anyone reading that is getting the impression that because it's such a small group, folks may be click-ish, I want to encourage you to post or even send me a PM. If you're friendly, whether you are seeking knowledge or have knowledge to share, and you post, You'll find me and others will be friendly and welcoming. So to those who lurk, please post! Someone at VI Control that has been coming here for years sent me a PM following a particular ugly experience I had with a developer on their site, and he told me that he'd been coming here for years and he really enjoyed my posts and how he's been following Larry's deals for years. He even mentioned about the time Larry left. He made some funny observations. And then, it blew my mind, he wrote how much he appreciated what he saw as a real friendship between Larry and me that he found reflected in our posts! I found it really touching and, of course, I had to PM Larry to tell him, because he's half of that feel good story. So, I my VI Control friend, if you're reading this -- or for anyone else reading this who hasn't commented in a post -- we'd love to have you as part of the mix.

As he starts thinking about it, he realizes he has a hard time thinking of anything else despite not even liking the song. Perturbed, he goes back to work and after a long day of accomplishing little, goes home. Around lunch time the following day, the man starts humming "Green, Green Grass of Home." Another song that he's not really fond of. Now he's confused, where did that come from? The radio hasn't been on all day, but once again the rest of his day is ruined. The poor man's week continues this way, until he's had enough and goes to see his doctor. "Doc! You gotta help me!" the man exclaims. "All week long, I can't get any work done. I have all these songs I don't even like stuck in my head. What's New, Pussycat? She's a Lady. Green, Green Grass of Home. "What's wrong with me?" "Oh, that's not so bad," the Doctor replies. "You've got Tom Jones Syndrome." "Tom Jones Syndrome? Is that rare?" "It's not unusual."

  44. "SECOND STANDARD LIBRARIES" -- Stuff to get you started. Samples from Mars -- Everything Bundle: Maybe everybody here knows about this, but SFM goes on sale every year giving you tens of gigabytes of quality sounds for 50 bucks. As not only drum machines are covered, but many synth samples are included, whole projects (in certain genres) can be finished only using Samples from Mars. This offering has become my day to day standard library. A word about Kontakt -- Acquiring Kontakt is a bit of an investment. However, the included standard library is often overlooked. When getting full Kontakt, I highly recommend taking a look at the goodies that come with it. They take a bit of disk space, but it's free, and I am regularly reaching for the included samples which are of good quality. It might be a good strategy to take a look there first and invest in dedicated libraries later. Pianobook -- If Kontakt is not an option, take a look at pianobook ... and take a year of time to check all the free libraries for Decent sampler. I was surprised how good (and sometimes innovative and unique) the material is. https://www.pianobook.co.uk/packs/milk-factory/ I will add a post with my five favourite (cheap) Kontakt libraries later this weekend.
