  1. Not a deal: Just had one of my tracks played on the radio tonight for the first time, so buzzing a little πŸ™‚ Edit: Adding links (still semi reluctantly!) to the track on the various platforms after a few people requested to hear it 😊 https://linktr.ee/disorderlyconductor

Craig St. James was the DJ and I was sitting in the Radio Studio with him! Ah the memories! The two songs were entitled: "Someone's There" and "I'm Back"

  7. Thanks for putting these vids up. There is one problem I have with the plethora of videos on youtube, Udemy etc "teaching" people how to edit with Vegas. They are all doing it wrong. I guess one of them started off doing it the wrong way and then everyone else just copied their videos. The Davinci Resolve guy above is the same. He say's "instead of Vegas being a traditional video editor (like Avid, Premiere, Resolve etc) Vegas does not have a source monitor, it just has the preview monitor and you edit your clips by dragging the clips into the timeline and doing the editing there which I found not so good for complex edits etc...." There are literally hundreds of tutorials out there saying this, the problem is, they are all wrong and he is wrong. Vegas does indeed have a source monitor and it works just the same way as the other editors. In Vegas, it is called the trimmer window. When Vegas is set up like this, it works just the same way as Premiere, Avid and Resolve. You can tick a box in preferences to have clips load straight away into the trimmer (source) window and then set your in/out points and drag selections into the timeline from the source window and make subclips etc so it works exactly the same way. This is the traditional way that NLE's work. So you absolutely can work in Vegas, the same way as you would in the other NLE's. I'm on some other video editing forums where it became an issue for discussion. It seems to have arisen because those doing youtube videos tend to want to just edit a few clips or one long clip and editing in the timeline is ok for this, so that's what they did and that's all they thought they could do, because by default, Vegas doesn't load the trimmer window. But when you have a number of clips where you might have clapperboards, over runs and numerous takes in the one shot etc (as in film/doco making) then you really need to use the source window to select/trim bits of the shot, as dragging all that stuff into the timeline would be chaos. This is sometimes cited as a reason why people switch away from Vegas, because "it doesn't have a source window and editing everything in the timeline gets messy, it's only good for short productions". I don't know how people can even use Vegas efficiently without using the source window. Those who use Vegas for more long form material say the same thing. Here it is, you can also move the tabs at the bottom of the monitor windows to the top and line things up a bit better:

  8. Social media - a way for people to get a false sense of importance and an exagerrated sense of the legitimacy of their grievance and the impact that they are having. So no wonder they are bragging about how empty the arena was. Chaplin’s character in The Great Dictator said of modern means of communications that β€œthe very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men - cries out for universal brotherhood - for the unity of us all.” Well maybe their nature cries out FOR that. But it speaks OF an entirely different kind of needs, the needs of an unspeakably abject nature.

  11. A man is diligently at work when he realizes he's been humming "What's New, Pussycat?" for the last several hours. As he starts thinking about it, he realizes he has a hard time thinking of anything else despite not even liking the song. Perturbed, he goes back to work and after a long day of accomplishing little, goes home. Around lunch time the following day, the man starts humming "Green, Green Grass of Home." Another song that he's not really fond of. Now he's confused, where did that come from? The radio hasn't been on all day, but once again the rest of his day is ruined. The poor man's week continues this way, until he's had enough and goes to see his doctor. "Doc! You gotta help me!" the man exclaims. "All week long, I can't get any work done. I have all these songs I don't even like stuck in my head. What's New, Pussycat? She's a Lady. Green, Green Grass of Home. "What's wrong with me?" "Oh, that's not so bad," the Doctor replies. "You've got Tom Jones Syndrome." "Tom Jones Syndrome? Is that rare?" "It's not unusual."

  18. Welcome! I remember, I had given some branding/marketing advice to Ben from Camel Audio and we met up when I was on business in Scotland. At the time, I was handling digital marketing for a large mobile phone maker (okay, they were MUCH larger than and not so large anymore) and our research found that most mobile phone users only were aware of around 5% of their mobile phone's features. It's been around 15 years and Camel Audio was bought by Apple, so I think it's okay to share this. A lot of my sense of humor is self-deprecating. Why? I know how to take a joke, so why not? So, I had joked with Ben that I'm just a lowly preset user that lacks the patience to program a synth. Ben then told me that his company found that the overwhelming majority of soft synth buyers say they want to be able to program/create their own patches but what happens in reality? 90 or 95% of soft synth users or so are preset users (note: while I have a mind for details, I don't remember the exact stat). So marled, we're not alone.

  23. Big congrats dude. With all the algos and stuff these days, it’s quite an accomplishment. My band’s self-released 45 from the 80s is more popular today than it ever was when we first made it. I think a copy went for $2k recently. 😲 Collectors are crazy.
    3 points
  24. Man, if you don't have a copy, you absolutely should! The most popular band I was in had cut a record with their previous drummer before I joined the band and never went into the studio during my years with the band. We'd play the venues I always dreamed of playing and colleges throughout the Midwest, but I wasn't part of the band's records, as I replaced the original drummer. So it was cool to be heading into a place for a soundcheck and hear the band you're in on the radio, but when you weren't part of the recording, you feel a bit like a sideman. Funny thing though. we played a lot of colleges all over the Midwestern US and more than a decade later, I was speaking at UChicago for the first time out of several times and it struck me, I played drums at a show there and I was a business speaker. Spoiler: it was a lot more fun to be a drummer.

  44. I've had that same thought many times. This forum is the music related forum I spend 90% of online forum time at. Why? The people. This forum the most helpful and friendly community of any forum of its kind that I know of. I've led digital marketing, including social media, at a bunch of companies, including some very large global brands and also ran a couple of forums for my own sites and I realize that the forum ownership plays a significant part of the community culture, so Bandlab and the moderators here also deserve significant credit for fostering and maintaining a really healthy community. Other forums that are a lot larger, like KVR and VI Control have their strengths, but they have very different forum cultures, which are the result of many factors, like the forum's policies and what the forum moderators encourage and discourage. Some of the sites can be very clickish. VI Control has always had these weird hanger on personality cults where developers and pro composers are rockstars and the ownership prioritizes around the developers, as opposed to users, because that's where they make their money. Whereas Bandlab's forum policies-- even while I've been critical of the one about not letting developers deep link-- reflect that Bandlab has a very user centric approach and that's rare for this space. Bandlab and their moderators deserve a lot of credit for the very helpful and friendly culture they've nurtured. We're not a big community, but we're big enough to make it very useful and having @cclarryis pretty much like having 20 additional members scouting and posting deals.
