  1. No not at all. More like our (small) team has been working on some other equally important things. CbB is a pretty mature application and it's not always necessary to add new features but rather refine what we have.

  2. Thanks everyone for checking out the latest EA. We plan to release this officially tomorrow. We just updated the build to 28.09.0.027 which includes a couple of important fixes. If you see this, we'd appreciate it if you tried it out before we release tomorrow.

  4. Reaktor: Free Maximizer Supposedly a Sonnox Inflator clone and whilst not really to my ears, I was really surprised at how much this thing can be pushed as a limiter/clipper anyway. Completely free and has controls for the clipping part, including Inflator aspect and the limiting section. I was testing BX True Peak over the last few days and on one particular track I tried it on, this goes a lot louder than that before breaking up and distorting the sound.. No compression before it, but BX gets the track to -11 / -10 LUFS whereas this free Reaktor ensemble gets it to -9 / -8 LUFS short term before hitting that same level of breakup. Pretty amazing for a free ensemble. Requires Native Instruments Reaktor. https://www.native-instruments.com/en/reaktor-community/reaktor-user-library/entry/show/9777

  5. This perfectly explains the virtual performer phenomenon, as well as other crowd-powered genres such as EDM and KPop. It's the shared experience that audiences enjoy. I think it's a symptom of the isolation people are feeling nowadays. Though not unique to young people, they have been impacted most due to being conditioned to equate social media with actual social interaction. We've long heard about old people feeling isolated, but honestly this old person could not care less. I have no Facebook friends, I have real friends that I can count on two hands with enough fingers left over to hold and light a joint.

  13. As just such a user (Player only), I appreciate this. The library thumbnails with patch list browser on the right (complete with single-click auditioning!) will make KP7 much more of a go-to. I have some libraries that I'll probably only now hear all of their presets for the first time due to the clunkiness of browsing the old interface. I've always loved the sounds and functionality built into the Kontakt libraries I've downloaded, but detested the crud I had to crawl through in order to just call them up. This is brilliant. It even has a way to "favorite" presets in the library view. I love to play fine acoustic pianos and guitars have no interest in making them. Same with Kontakt instruments. For the more committed users, I'll send out hope that they are also in the process of making improvements to the under the hood UI in the near future.

  15. Glad to help. This is basically how editing had to be done back in early versions of Cakewlk for DOS when the Event List was the only method of doing note-level editing. I still find it useful. And even when not using it to audition notes, Tab-to-Notes/Transients is extremely handy in all views for precisely setting the Now time and then setting From=Now or Thru=Now. to mark one end of a selection or split clips, etc.

  19. agreed. tbh, had it for much longer than actually using it but thanks to the pandemic started exploring it in detail as an option to existing platforms. my initial post was a comment on click bait YT titles not worth the pixels they're printed on, let alone being relevant. think it's worth noting Cakewalk even -got- a mention, which might be the result of Meng's decision to offer it for free. however. ime there's some reflection of reality in the rankings, so -why- is Cakewalk 'underrated'? imho, ecosystem dynamics are bigger factors than inherent capabilities, ala the VHS/Beta or DOS/Mac wars where incumbency, pricing and marketing were key. ~70-80% of my network is 100% Mac based with maybe another 10-15% dual platform = a limited pool for active elements of the musical community. That includes 100% of the commercial facilities which are another channel of influencers. ymmv. so platform compatibility is a factor. yes, you can export/import, but that's overhead with "interoperability" issues on the finer points of collaboration. Couldn't get rid of PT fast enough but most of my Mac peeps are pretty productive with Logic, along with the likes of Live, Cubase, maybe Reaper or DP, etc explored a couple of cross platform candidates as an option (S1 and Reaper). Reaper is highly capable and just as highly obtuse for peeps who could care less about tweaking tools when they could be making music. I get that and quickly learned -not- to recommend it given the support load required to become productive. S1 shares many of the main conventions as other major DAWs with some nice project mastering capability but that's becoming less significant as artists evolve to releasing content on a schedule as a tactic to maintain a social media profile vs releasing an "album". Some current projects are on S1 but still preferring workflow and features in Cakewalk. Live has a different (but interesting) approach. Cubase is just too cluttered for me. it's also a "horses for courses" thing where goal, access and genre are factors. if ur just banging out some loops 'cos ur bored, u really don't need or want to fire up a rocket ship or science project. and ya, sure you can play guitar parts on a keyboard after loading a klunky ui, reading a manual and programming a bunch of articulations, but it's easier to just plug into an AI and roll. then there's the perception of "reliability". in both my experience and observation, this is the challenge of being on a PC platform with an infinite number of system configurations hobbled by a decidedly finite level of technical capability. a quick survey of the forums should confirm that. Macs have their own issues, but for must musicians, it's much less to deal with. and ya, marketing. but you know this, and expect the same as most on this forum would agree that Cakewalk not only is, but -has- been a mature, full featured DAW with leading edge capability that other "market leaders" are still struggling to catch up with. agreed. it's music first, then tools. my preference is Cakewalk. I recommend it for anybody considering a PC platform, advocate for it (to the extent of helping peeps get started with it) and appreciate the ongoing development and support. it's also worth mentioning just how useful and valuable this forum has been for becoming productive with it. not just Cakewalk itself, but wrt to a wide range of related topics.

  28. The key-word here is 'using it' 😜 But I get it. I don't feel stung when I pay a particular price and it went cheaper after a year or even 6 months. Even if I only used it once or even never. I am however a bit upset with myself. "You idiot, you just wasted €20. Never used it and now it is cheaper". Then I get mad a the developer for not waiting until I have used it, to go for a lower price than I paid for it. But then they make up for it by releasing a brand new shiny toy which I will buy at too high a price. Then the price drops...buy, install, rave, repeat. This (and nothing else, honestly 😇) is why I made the switch to hardware. The new shiny toy costs me € 1000. That'll show me!

  29. 10 or so years ago, I went to see a big ticket band* for a not insignificant amount of money either, and it was clear that a significant part of the performance was being mimed - the drum sound, for example, didn't match what part of the kit was being hit... It really spoilt it for me, and I was really disappointed by the whole experience. I've nothing against backing tapes or running sequences (I've used them, and my favourite live bands use them), but don't try to trick me, OK? 🙂 * The female lead singer of said band may or may not have very Blonde hair if you see what I mean.

  33. That's a good thing to remember when people feel stung by seeing something they spent good money for go on sale for a fraction of the price years later. If I pay $35 for plug-in X and then 2 years later it's put on sale for $15, should I whimper? Would I trade back the 2 years of using it for $20? If so, how much did I need the plug-in in the first place? 😄

  37. We're pleased to announce the 2022.09 release! This is primarily a maintenance release that includes fixes for a few user reported issues. Please note that in order to automatically keep your activation status up to date, Cakewalk will renew your activation status whenever a new version of the application is installed and run for the first time, and when you sign in to BandLab from within Cakewalk. If you have never signed in to BandLab from within Cakewalk, you will be prompted once to sign in. Thanks, The Bakers For new feature details, see New Features. Should you need to revert to the 2022.06 release, you can download the Cakewalk 2022.06 Rollback installer. 2022.09 Highlights Improvements Mono inputs from Patch Points and Aux Tracks Prior to this release, if a track or bus had an input assigned to a mono input (L/R) from an AUX track or Patch Point, the input would always and include both left and right channels from the patch point when playing back. Patch point inputs now correctly include just the channel specified as a track input. Note: Existing projects that utilize aux track or patch point mono inputs will sound different because previously these would render as stereo only. If you want them to sound the same as before, you can reassign the input to be stereo. Reduced minimum project loop length The minimum project loop length has been reduced to 1/128th note (30 ticks). Update to élastique SDK 3.4.0 Integrated zplane élastique Pro audio stretching and pitch shifting has been updated to version 3.4.0 with bug fixes and performance enhancements. Update to latest Microsoft redistributables and compiler The application is now built using the latest Microsoft tools that include some minor compile time fixes and optimizations. Application Signing The application signature has been refreshed to remove dependencies with Symantec certificates. In some cases, this would cause the application to be flagged as unsafe or cause the digital signature to be treated as invalid, potentially causing activation errors. Additionally, we now sign all DLL files and themes installed by the application to prevent unexpected quarantining by antivirus programs at install time or runtime. Note: If you do an update install of the application, only the main application and its DLL files will be updated with the new digital signatures. To update all signed components, you will have to run the full application installer. Optimizations Improved responsiveness of the application on stopping transport with large projects The MIDI All Notes Off message is no longer sent to VST plugins on transport stop. This message can be expensive for some plugins (eg Console Emulator) and the symptom was that the application could appear unresponsive for a few seconds after stopping playback, when the project contained a large number of tracks. Since Cakewalk manages all MIDI note on's explicitly, sending note off messages for just those notes, the All Notes Off message is no longer required. This may also improve start/stop responsiveness with other VST instruments. ProChannel plugins no longer receive MIDI Some ProChannel modules were requesting MIDI data leading to unnecessary processing lag. MIDI to Prochannel modules has now been blocked. Bug fixes Application UI is not shown after "Almost done..." message when opening projects containing certain plugins Occasional heap corruption on deleting synth tracks "Nudge by snap" uses Landmarks even with Snap to Landmarks button disabled Regression - unable to use automation shelf tool after making time ruler selection Set Measure/Beat As Now creates duplicate nodes at the end of the tempo envelope Export presets do not recall custom sample rate Export module shows inaccurate elapsed time for selection The ampersand character (&) behaves incorrectly in the track inspector's Description text box Simple Instrument Tracks cause incorrect track numbers when exporting audio Latest release notes are here. See prior release notes. Check out all new features released to date.

  41. The asterisks next to the keys indicate those are custom bindings. Just choosing 'Unbind' will restore the default binding. But you're right the defaults say 'unassigned'. Apparently the internal assignments don't automatically populate to the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog without some deliberate updating - possibly related tot he fact that there isn't actually a "Focus Previous/Next Track' function available to assign. I have my bindings modified to make PgUp/Down previous/next measure (usually requires Ctrl) and Ctrl+PgUp/Down previous/next marker.
