  4. I know what you mean, I am a bit that way myself, but to my surprise some of the amps I thought I would dislike became amps I like. Either backing off drive, or getting another capture with less drive etc. They became very likeable crunchy, edge of breakup and low to medium gain, and the clean were surprisingly good. ToneNET, I'll have to check it out one day, but I have flashbacks to how Positive Grids ToneCloud was, endless trudging through less than mediocre captures to even find 1 that was worth the effort, ending up with an unruly pile that you never use. I ended up only getting those from PG or Pro's, but mainly preferred just building and tweaking my own. I very well could just end up doing the same here, waiting for IK to release packs, assuming they are going to, or those done by IK's 'endorsment Pro's' whatever you call them. Endlessly trolling through the chaff to find the gold is certainly not fun or appealing. YMMV

  5. Was thinking the exact same thing today. I'm betting SE becomes much more enticing once users upload a lot more profiled amps. The question is really the issue that you need some specialized hardware beyond an amp, interface and mic to capture the profile that will limit the profiles we see right out of the gate. Not to mention the reports of the profiling to take an hour for a single mic position using a solid spec machine. That will also limit some of what could have been. Honestly the amps IKM has done that I'm interested in seem sparse, and an ala cart amplitude style offering would have been welcome. Those looking for high gain should be in paradise right now though. This technology has a lot of promise but at the same time I also expect we will see a little too much amp + effect built into the patch which in my testing kills dynamics and responsiveness to vol pot changes. just like it tends to do in the real world.

  7. Basically, I'm trying to do the same to stop my endless stream of acquisitions. I could be fine with everything I already own and I still don't know how to use a heck of a lot of the effect plugins I own. So, of course, I'm no one to give advice in this area. But one thing I've done that helps is creating Cakewalk project files by instrument category and I drill down. For example, I have a file with all of my upright character pianos so that if I'm tempted by a new upright character piano, I'll go open that project file and spend time with those pianos to really understand if the library I'm looking at really would fill a need or not. That's mostly been effective this year. But the one thing where I've broken the rule? The inexpensive libraries along the way and figuring out how to create my own programs in SoundPaint. I think all of us regulars in this forum have the same buying habits.

  10. 'M-Blue Glacier' is a flat style Theme with grey Off/Unselected buttons and mostly bright blue On/Selected buttons, Blue audio meters and slightly larger text in some areas where possible. This is my first real flat style theme, 'M-Stealth' is sort of flat but the buttons when in the on/selected state aren't and 'M-Tungsten' is just a rework of the 'Tungsten' theme included with Cakewalk, this is why I'm calling this one my first flat style theme, it's taken me so long to make a flat theme from scratch as I usually prefer to make and use the non-flat (3D?-ish?) style themes but I thought I'd finally give it a go, so here is the result. Hope you enjoy! Free Download Here.... https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1vFLxJQ0hC4knMdOfC906G7TZHs3FYO-R?usp=sharing A combined total of around 150 hours, sometimes much more, goes in to creating each Theme I make, then there's more time spent to update them whenever BandLab makes changes or additions to the Cakewalk GUI to ensure any changed or new items display correctly and match the Theme, I also don't make all these Themes for myself, it's more of a hobby and to share the end results with the Cakewalk Community for their use and enjoyment at no charge, Any Tips/Donations via the following link for my time and efforts in creating and updating these are greatly appreciated, however small. Thank You! ❤️https://www.paypal.me/MatthewJohnWhite

  11. It would be nice to have an option of inserting negative bars (as -2 ,-1, 0, 1, 2 ect). I believe Qubase has this functionality. I don't know if anyone else would like to see this happen on Cakewalk. Normally I just start my song at bar 2 or 3, but that does not reflect reality (bar 1 actually being bar 1). This has been brought up before in the old Sonar forums - don't know whatever became of it. Thanks, Syphus

Someone I used to know once got upset with me after it had become apparent that his girlfriend had "entertained" more than one of his friends at various times when he wasn't around and I said that he would never have to worry about that happening with me. He wanted to know why not ? What's wrong with her ? Was I trying to say that she wasn't good enough for me ? There really is no pleasing some people.😀

  19. It wasn't my market analysis that I shared, it was from an industry analyst. I am a former strategist, so I definitely think like one. When I referenced Slate hiring, I was referring to adding new staff, not replacing turnover -- and that was earlier this year. Just a strategy 101 point that is a basic part of due diligence. Yes, the global economy is definitely straining right now. But tech is still strong. Hiring in the US is still strong right now and is forecasted by major analysts to remain strong into 2023. The "lack of enticement a the PA sales" is not something I would make the leap to the assumptions you're making such as reflecting the industry slumping or PA in trouble. PA was recently acquired by Soundwise and their new ownership clearly has a belief that they can grow their marketshare, like many acquired companies. It's very typical to see management of a newly acquired company expected to grow to adjust and try different sales, pricing, distribution, partnership and promotions strategies -- these are the very obvious, simple things you commonly see in the short term. So when you see a newly acquired company having these changes, it's not surprising under any economic conditions so you really can't make too many assumptions beyond that, particularly in the first year after an acquisition. I would add to that, that the competitive forces are a major factor in PA's strategies that you're looking at. Aggressive pricing and deep discounting is becoming increasingly common in the competitive environment, so that's the battle they face for marketshare, and especially for acquiring new customers -- and as the market is growing, that's especially critical, so it is to be expected that Soundwise wants to see PA focused on growing their marketshare. One might see it as a very extended bunch of rounds of penetration pricing that eventually became the norm. The fact is, when multiple competitors began doing deep discounting, it can put major pressure on a company, especially if sales are stagnating and the deep discounting competitors are grabbing the new consumers in the market. Okay, there might be three people here who enjoy strategy discussions. I used to have a publication on strategy and a forum where lots of business people and academics enjoyed deep discussions on strategy and really enjoyed that part of it. I just didn't love having to write about it every day, so I don't anymore. Consequently, it's more enjoyable to discuss strategy now that it's not something I'm obligated to write about regularly. Back to our regular programming. And whatever your thoughts on PA, one thing that's nice from a consumer/buyer perspective is that high quality plugins and libraries are more affordable than ever.

  20. Weering off the topic again... I have basically stopped* buying any more effects plugins, unless they do something different or there is some crazy discount. My plan is to find out what I can do with the ones I have (and I do have alot) and if I at some point find out I'm limited by my current options, I'll buy some more then. But at that point I hopefully have a clear picture of what I actually need. With instruments it's more difficult. I know I need and want strings and other orchestral instruments, synths, "ethnic" instruments, percussion instruments of all kinds, things that make weird sounds. And there always seems to be something new that sounds just different enough to warrant the purchase. It's much harder to draw the line, to say that now I have enough. I'm trying to create a more curated collection of instruments so I could have a better understanding of what I have and what I can do with it. I'm not sure how exactly I'm going to go about doing it, but I know I currently have way too much stuff and I strongly believe I need to limit myself, to have less options, in order to be more productive. But there's always something that comes along... * Tried to. It's a process.

  21. "Silverstone" https://batsbrew.bandcamp.com/track/silverstone i became enamored with formula run racing this last year, after watching the british grand prix, decided to write a song that tried to capture all that energy and raw power. this was done using a '77 Ibanez Artist 2618, with a marshall model thru a strymon Iridium.

  22. Well I'm gonna stick to my theory people just aint buying certain stuff anymore no matter what those stats say. Collecting the "oh but it's awesome eq" to go with the other 47 I have is now a luxury. Maybe just maybe I realize I have too much stuff and would take 7 lifetimes to learn how to use any of it. Then...........I thought about getting Tantra..........BUT I can't get it for $10............THEN I realize I can do the same thing in Live and probably those Cable Guys plugins I haven't used.

  24. While I wouldn't recommend engaging in such hyper intensive discounting like they're doing -- it wears out consumers and trains your market to only buy during sales. I think it shows that the new ownership is very hungry to grow Plugin Alliance's market share. Which, as a customer who wants these companies/brands to stick around, is a really good sign. As long as they don't introduce PAUP (that's a joke -- I hope -- Plugin Alliance Update Plan).

  25. Arming at the lane level is causing this (intended behavior I think). Just arm at the track level and let "Sound on Sound" and "Re-use Except When Takes Overlap" do its thing (personally I prefer to force 'Create New Lane' for every new take for total predictability).

  26. I just got this (twice) using Tungsten. (2022.09 build 023) Project file from 2013 was used. On a project file from 2012, I got audio looping without the transport in play mode. Pressing stop stops the transport, but not the audio loop.

  28. Yeah, I've heard people talk about doing these kinds of instrument audition projects before. It's definitely something I'm going to try at some point. But my instrument list already has over 400 instruments (certain bundles and libraries like BBCSO count as one) and I know it's missing at least one third of what I actually have. I'm sure many of you have even more VIs, but as a simple hobbyist I am currently overwhelmed by my menagerie. I feel that before I can start auditioning instrument types, I need to go through some kind of process on a more fundamental level to get on top of things. Adding the missing instruments on my list would probably help, as would taking some time to think things through.

  36. As far as guitars go, I see the requisite list as an LP, Strat & Tele. I have the JTV Variax modelling guitar for "off the wall stuff" such as a sitar and acoustics (6 and 12 string).

  37. Not for me. Have tried it out twice on 2 different pretty high end Lenovo lap tops, set up identically and running Studio One 5 (with Windows 10 Pro). In each instance, dragging it on to an S1 track either froze or crashed S1 within about 30 seconds. You might want to trial it, since I recall at least one other S1 user on this forum not having this issue.

  39. You're making some incorrect assumptions. There are a lot of businesses hurting in the current economy. But not the DAW, sample library and plugin market. There was a recent market analysis I shared here a couple of months ago. The market is doing very well and growing. It's an attractive market. You can't make a connection between companies doing deep discounts and financial issues. Traditional (brick and mortar) retailers have been in trouble for years and the pandemic magnified those problems. But that hasn't translated into the digital music making world. 8Dio has been deep discounting for many years, so has Waves. Probably a decade for Waves by now. As a strategist and marketing professional (okay, I'm a business owner now, but even now, my business is a job site that focuses on marketing jobs that was a result of my publication on marketing strategy), a company like 8Dio and many others, that are clearly growing, offer sales because this is a growing market that is increasingly competitive. 8Dio is attempting to grab as much of the market as it can, and aggressive pricing is a big part of their strategy (I don't necessarily agree with how aggressive their pricing is, as I think that deep discounting too greatly all of the time, undermines your brand image to the point where consumers are being trained to no longer buy at regular prices but instead they wait and anticipate major discounts). So, 8Dio and many other sample developers -- and Waves on the plugin side (a much older, long established player) -- are pursuing aggressive growth strategies. Think of it as that they're buying these customers by giving away products very cheaply because they know that most of these buyers spend a lot of money over their lifetimes and want to grab them before the competition sells them an alterative. Years ago, when Troels started Tonehammer, he called me for some strategic advice on branding and marketing. He was a composer out of the UK with big plans to take his knowledge of sample libraries and build his business to appeal to film and games composers, hobbyists and a large amount of folks who aspired to be pros. Of course, most of the money is in the amateur market. So Troels' now uses very aggressive penetration pricing, deep discounting, especially on older libraries and libraries near retirement. These aren't new strategies or strategies done out of desperation. These are aggressive strategies to win over buyers in highly competitive growth markets. This industry is doing very well right now. There's hiring going on. I recently saw Steven Slate (who I also spoke with in his early start up days) was hiring additional NEW STAFF for a number of roles in the US and in France earlier this year. From the analysis I recently shared, it appears that the pandemic has not hurt the DAW/plugin/sample markets and may even have benefited the market. Of course, that doesn't mean that all companies are doing great -- it's highly dependent on many factors, including the skillset of the management of a company. But the industry overall is doing very well right now.

  40. Try Taco Time. Much better food, much higher prices and so should be easier to reign in. If this is the only thing you're dropping dollars on all the time there's nothing wrong with that as long as you're buying smart, ie good stuff that's well vetted, and using it. I'm a lifelong musician in life and craft and I don't consider myself a hobbyist in that, but I *have* recently given in to an expensive side hobby--woodworking--which I've always tinkered with here and there, but recently I've gone all in on it and so has my wallet chain. In just the last few months I've bought jigsaws and circular saws, expensive portable shop table, squares, and just a bunch of other tools. And just when I think I have all the tools I need, there's more tools I need. Then there's wood, and how neither Lowe's nor Home Depot can truly come through in that regard for quality hardwood, so I have to go to lumber yards. All I wanted was to build a dang footstool real quick and now here I am building a pop-up wood shop in my bathroom. And now there's this 8dio string library that I'm about to buy after I'm done riding this since the $35 sale is still on. And I'll get the $8 deal from them too afterward. I'm just saying, if this music thing is all you're really dropping money on I think you're in good shape.. unless you're into cars or something too. Yeah I'm also gonna be buying up to four 4tb ssds too. You realize that's like $1600~ just for those?!

  42. Sorry, I haven't used SPAN for a while but I'll guess based on my memory (almost always a bad idea): Inputs 1&2 are the stereo input to the track the that SPAN is plugged into, in your case I'd suggest the MY MIX or REFERENCE tracks. You don't need a SPAN bus, but, if you want to create a SPAN stereo bus, route the send from either your REFERENCE or MY MIX tracks to the input of the SPAN bus. Yes, that should work if you keep the STEREO BUS. See 2 above. Yes, either that or 3. Only one should be available. SPAN I didn't use factory presets but recall that they worked pretty well Internal SPAN routing was always confusing (trial and error) for me, but in the end it worked. Ditto group assignments. Sounds like you were happy with the results. So call it done.

The price of the 23 item bundle seems to be fixed and that would be enough for me. I bought a similar bundle back in 2020 and it looks like all but one of the brush packs are new, so this could be a nice upgrade. Looks like @telecode 101 was right: everyone wants our money today.
