  2. Just a heads-up: I just logged into my PB account. It might be that I've not been very observant in the past, but I've just noticed that Virtual Cash now has a one-year expiry timeout. According to the help page, buying something will add to your virtual cash (as before) and reset the timer back to 365 days.

  4. This is more of an FYI, but I junction big folders to get them off my C drive. I had done this with the C:Program Files/Common Files/VTS3 folder a long time ago, but Melodyne 5.2+ has issues with this. It will run in stand-alone mode, but not inside a DAW. Because of this I updated Cakewalk to verify errors thrown. I had to chuckle afterwards... to fix the issue in Cakewalk is simply to manually "Rescan Failed Plugins" No muss, no fuss. In SO5 it is significantly more painful (suggested solution is to move most of the settings folder and piecemeal repair that) - it works, but not simple at all. A quick shout of appreciation @Noel Borthwick for how elegant the repair is inside Cakewalk, as well as the additional failure popup (Cakewalk throws 2 at you). Some programs do react adversely to directory junctions (Adobe and Corel specifically), but Melodyne 5.2+ does as well, so do not junction the VST3 folder. For those who do not know junctions, it is probably best if you forget you read this.... [Jedi hand wave]... "This is not the thread you are looking for."

  5. Same here. I picked up a cheap crossgrade to Studio One Pro back when Gibson dumped Cakewalk. Then Cakewalk made a great comeback. Stuck with both now LOL!

  10. Personus were smart to offer a full 1 month demo of S1 Pro 5. I tried it and yesterday I buckled and got the S1 Pro 5 Crossgrade from Thomann for $209. Hopefully it will include the upgrade to v6. If not, I'll wait for Black Friday upgrade sales.

  18. Good luck with the visit! You're a drummer and I'm a bassist, so I think you might appreciate the first audio I ran through my new Focal Shape 65's. My new studio is finally coming together after tearing down the one in the U.S. 18 months ago. Feels really good. Next to be connected is my NI S61 Mk2. Great keyboard controller.

  20. You just HAD to bring that up, didn't you? 😄 Happy to hear that you're happy. Getting to the right place in life is usually difficult to impossible. This thread has gotten WAY off topic, but that's OK, because XLN haven't done doodlely squat new in forever. It's off-topic threads like this that keep them in the light. Back off-topic. I am SO glad I moved on from marketing to engineering, but I have to add one important caveat. What I did learn through my 1st semester junior year, especially the three semesters of accounting, really helped me later in my engineering career. Not many engineers can talk to the C-suite and be taken seriously. I could talk their talk. What I consider my best-ever moment happened in Korea in 1999. I had a partnership with PWC Consulting at the time. They had a lead for a major consulting gig at LG-Caltex (the petroleum group of LG). They wanted a white-face to present the program to the board and they specifically wanted one from Motorola, the inventor of Six Sigma. Well, that turned out to be me. LG brought three rows of aluminum stadium seating into the boardroom for the unit presidents and senior VPs. Along the opposite wall were seated the local PWC staff trying to get the contract. There were 10 guys on the board, very old. Each was stone-faced enough to be on Mt. Rushmore. The chair at the opposite end for the CEO was empty. His personal assistant, one of the most lovely women I've ever seen, dressed in a formal ancient Korean gown, came in through a private door and set a glass of pink juice on a doily and left the room. That was the signal that the CEO was arriving. He came in and the entire LG group stood and bowed for precisely the same amount of time without looking at each other and sat back down. The angle of their bows was also so precise, I could have shot a laser across their backs. They all stared straight ahead and never looked at me. I thought I was in real trouble. The CEO sat down and very casually crossed his legs and looked off to my right, also not looking at me. I'd done my research and found out that he'd been at U.W.-M. at the same time I was, studying for his PhD, so I greeted him as a fellow Badger and gave my 45 minute presentation that no one appeared to be paying attention to. I felt like a comedian who'd gotten zero applause during his entire routine. When I finished, I asked for questions. The closest board member to me on my left turned and asked "who else in our business is doing this?" After a moment of contemplation, I responded "what's wrong with going first?" No more questions. I thanked them for their "attention". The CEO got up to leave the room (so I and everyone else in the room thought), but he walked around the board and came up to me, already a breach of protocol. I held out my right hand with my left hand, palm up, slightly leading my right hand in a position of #1 respect. He grabbed my hand and put his other arm around my shoulder. Now EVERYONE was looking. He whispered to me "that was exactly what I wanted to hear" and turned and left the room, which was full of stunned faces, which I read as "he's going to make us do this." That one answer was worth several million dollars of revenue. I spent the next 9 months there, helping them get the program going. I was able to bill them over $5K a day, just for my time. I smoked my partner in the U.S. who had responsibility for the Americas. He was a real buttwipe, so I enjoyed every moment of our annual business review with the Moto C-suite that year.

  21. Greg did say that there's a YouTube review that should be out soon. It's his birthday weekend, so he's probably with his family right now, otherwise, I know he'd get something out. Hopefully, one of the folks who posted in this thread who have bought it can help out. I'm going to be away from my PC most of this weekend, otherwise, I'd make an audio demonstration for you, as I love the library and have been using it a lot since I got it. If no one has a preset run through by Monday, I'll try to do one.

  22. Real talk: depending on how girly she is, one way to help her understand might be to gently offer that musical tools are similar to a woman's wardrobe: in need of updating from time to time. And just as difficult for the other gender to understand; I've been rocking plaid shirts and jeans for 45 years. When I started, it was "Laurel Canyon hippie rocker," then 10 years later it was punk (you get to keep the jeans longer because huge rips in them are part of the look), then 5 years after that the pinnacle of the Seattle look. If I want to switch to business casual, I grab the least faded jeans, switch to a button down and press it before I put it on. As Joe Jackson famously said "it's different for girls." The age old reply to "why do you need so many guitars?" "Same reason you need so many pairs of shoes, each one is different and used for different occasions." Just don't be a dick about it like you're throwing it back in her face. If she gets that it's a tool that you use in your (ahem, second) favorite pastime, well, the new version will let you do more and explore new things.

  25. I get worried about programs that have to release new feature versions every 2 years or so - it often means adding new features to bring in new customers which sometimes leave old features gathering dust and bug fixes being spread too thinly. But hey, maybe they'll invent something game-changing. Of the 'reasonable' requests I have of a new version, I just want some bugs fixed. A big one for me is that the project view/mastering doesn't support gapless plugin operation, for example. Certain song automations are unreliable in project mode too, even though not having to export a mixdown for each song is touted as a key feature for mastering projects. And 'transform to audio' (like Freeze in Cakewalk parlance) would sometimes just chop off audio tails. Etc. Of the 'unreasonable' requests, I'd love a proper importer for Cakewalk projects...

  31. Intellectual property concerns aside for a moment (regarding "Dylan Drums" "Queen Drums" and your other trademark infringing names for your libraries), you did a really good job on the tone of this library. Which, based on some of the libraries I've picked up that you've done under AnyDayLong and Past To Future, you're very good at getting vintage tones. As a sample buyer and someone who's consulted to around two dozen developers over those years who sees your talent, I wish you were more transparent and would just communicate openly when you post in social media as you'd build a lot more business by building relationships with sample buyers. You clearly know how to make good sounding libraries. I seriously wish your libraries had more detail though and more sophisticated user interfaces/mixing capabilities. But for their price, they tend to be a good value and I think you could easily grow your brand by not engaging in trademark infringements like "Beatle Drums" or "The Jackson 4." While your business is small enough it probably won't get on the radar of the law firms for these artists estates, it does delegitimize your brand to the vast majority of the market your trying to sell to; that is, many sample buyers will see these names and write off your work as fly by night, a hack, when you clearly have talent. Instead consider related names that communicate what a library is about without infringing on someone else's intellectual property rights. Consider what East West did with their "Fab Four" library package. The name does a good job of conveying what it is without making the developer look fly by night by engaging in trademark infringement. EastWest was careful not to infringe on trademarks by calling it "The Beatles Libraries " or something like that. Just some advice for you to take or leave intended to be helpful.

  34. It could be that the stretch algorithm you're using isn't suitable for the material. Also, note that there can be different algorithms for "online" and "offline" stretch. Changing the tempo value in the inspector will use the "online" algorithm, which may be fast but not as good quality. Selecting the clip and selecting "Bounce to clip(s)" will commit the changes using the higher quality "offline" algorithm. Alternatively, you can set the online & offline algorithms to the same higher quality algorithm. Stretching will be slower, but will sound better and you won't need to bounce to clip(s) afterwards. You can set the algorithms in preferences:

  36. NI usually takes a different approach: discount the soon-to-be retired version and later offer a cheap upgrade to the new one. K6 is currently selling for $199, down from $399. If history repeats, they'll then offer an upgrade from 6 to 7 for something like $149-$199 ($79-$99 if you wait a year). This, at least, is how it's gone since I first bought into the Kontakt universe at version 2. So it's probably safe to go ahead and grab K6 now if you're impatient. In the end K7 is going to end up costing you the same - or less - either way. I have bought every Kontakt version since K2, and never paid even half the list price for any of them, just by waiting a year before upgrading. If you buy K6 now, it will do everything you need it to do until eventually some must-have library comes along that requires K7. That won't be for a while.

  38. I just checked. For the library in the OP: Kontakt 5.8.1 Full Retail (or later) Required. Kontakt full can be installed on 2 or 3 computers. https://support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/209544789--Installing-Native-Instruments-Products-on-a-New-Computer- I don’t see any indication that the license for Kontakt Player is any different, even if it’s free. Note that there’s no actually enforcement of this licensing, so technically, you can install more than the EULA allowed licensed number of instances.

  39. I neglected to mention earlier: the Meldaproduction MFreeFX Bundle* has (among 36 other excellent tools and processors) a very comprehensive loudness analyzer called MLoudnessAnalyzer. As far as limiters, my favorite safety limiter is KHS Limiter, from the (also freeware) Kilohearts Essentials Bundle. Barebones, lightweight, easy to configure. (*If you ever want to upgrade the Melda bundle to the pro versions (which gives you access to some nice-but-not-crucial features like the ability to customize the look of the plug-ins and internal upsampling), they put it on sale for 50% off a couple of times a year. You can combine that with the 10 euro bonus you get from signing up for their newsletter and also with their 20% first purchase discount (use my referral code, MELDA1923165) and bring the cost for the pro upgrade down around USD11.)

  40. Odd that iZotope would snub Cakewalk that way, given their long co-history (e.g. Radius since SONAR 6). Several iZotope employees used to work for Cakewalk; I wonder if one of them holds some kind of grudge.

  42. Unfortunately I don't have an answer but this "reinstalling Windows" bit is a monumental waste of time. I can't for the life of me figure out why so many people do this. Try referring to the documentation when you want to find out how to do something instead of shooting in the dark: http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Tools.08.html
