  1. I had a whole bunch of really cool Rapture patches I created. I thought to myself, wouldn't it be great if I sold them. And then Cakewalk went out of business. I also had a few cool sounds for RMV. Then I realized I had a lot of cool Absynth patches and there's no longer Absynth. I'm thinking, maybe I should go around to synth developers and pay me not to develop patches for them. "Hey, Xfer, I see that you've got a nice synth called Serum there. It'd be a shame if anything were to happen to it..."

  2. On the plus side, I reckon that rather than being "over" this will lead to something of a renaissance of it's use by the many, many people who already have it and have had it for so many years that they have largely forgotten all about it in favour of the newer, shinier things that have come their way, They will fall in love with it all over again.... Because, as we know....... Wait for it..... A little longer...... Absynth makes the heart grow fonder. No, you get your coat.

  3. One of my favorite quotes is from Spanish philosopher George Santayana (1863-1952). “Those who fail to learn from the mistakes of their predecessors are destined to repeat them”. This song is mostly instrumental but there are two short vocal verses towards the end that reflect my interpretation of what Mr. Santayana was saying in light of modern times. 🙂John B https://www.soundclick.com/music/songInfo.cfm?songID=14482893

  4. I've been watching for this one for awhile. That an OK price, but it's still not no-brainer territory for me - especially after the plugin binge I have been on this year!

  5. I got a very nice answer from support. Technically they confirmed I was only eligible to upgrade to rx10 standard, but said they'd happily do an exception and offer me the advanced version for free! So if anyone's in the same position, go ahead and contact them!

  6. This upgrade from RX 6 Post Production Suite from Best Service comes as a handful of licenses (after you jump through this bizarre extra hoop). But it's not exactly individual licenses. Here's what I got: Stutter Edit 2 (serial) Brainworx - Creative Mixing Set (serial) Melodyne Essential Trash 2 w/Expansion Packs Iris 2 (serial) Music Production Suite 5 UE (serial) RX Post Production Suite 7 BreakTweaker Expanded (serial) Status 3D and Symphony 3D The two big ones (PPS 7 and MPS 5) are single serials and register everything included. So you might be able to peel off Stutter Edit/Trash/IrisBreakTweaker but not parts from any of the big bundles. For the price it wasn't too bad. RX Advanced has always been good, not sure what's new though. The other bits I almost had all of already.

  7. I think that Mr Clevinger was just trying to reassure his loyal users that he had nothing to do with the bad decision, and that he would have jumped at the chance to revisit Absynth if that had been NI's chosen direction. But since NI owns the intellectual property rights for Absynth, not much he can do about it... He has a business to run, and has moved on to Plasmonic and other future projects. I see that he had a need to get out in front of the announcement, in order to maintain as much credibility as possible. In the video it appeared to be more about him letting go than seeking leverage.

  11. Anyone else record an album in the early 2000's using a demo of Absynth, which would generously let you record up to 25 seconds of audio? Creating endless cool clips to use? Just me? I milked that free demo horse to death. I purchased it later on so I could sleep at night. And still use it.

  14. Hello to all my CW friends! It's been a long 6 months since I've had much spare time, but here I am with a new song. I recently purchased Waves Harmony and used it on this song to experiment a bit. It's fresh off the press and can be found here: https://soundclick.com/r/s8mawa I managed to listen to some of the new songs here from time to time, and I've been very impressed. I would like to have commented many times, but time has been precious this year. Thanks in advance for your time and good ears! Lynn 9/28/22 Thanks to my co-producers here, I remixed the percussion, smoothed a few rough edges, and slightly rearranged the beats. I also lessened the f/x on my vocals a bit and raised the bass gtr a tad. I think this helped to get me closer to the end.

  17. I don't know if this is possible Bakers ... But it would be nice to use the Bandlab instruments in Cakewalk. So when people are moving stuff from Bandlab they can have the instrument in Cakewalk as well. Without converting the midi to audio... Or completely replacing the instrument for the midi. That way you can change midi if needed in CakeWalk. Give a +1 to this thread if you agree.

  24. Ooh I know this one....... Strummy, Bapu and craigb walk in to a bar. Craigb goes straight to the men's room to avoid having to buy the beers. Bapu gets the beers in and then Strummy spots some birds across the room, quickly sinks his jar and goes over to chat them up. Bapu finds himself standing at the bar next to guy with a really tiny head - like the size of a billiard ball and the guy looks at Bapu and says.. "Hey there, I'm Kenny.....what's your name?" "I'm Bapu, pleased to meet you". Soon Bapu was regaling him with stories of his latest bass guitar, his old one that nobody cares about and such like, but Kenny soon tired of this so like old dudes everywhere he started talking about his wartime experiences... " My ship was sunk by an enemy torpedo and I ended up all alone on this remote desert island with no way of shaving for years" said Kenny "So how did you get back here?" asked Bapu "Well" said Kenny...."one day I was in the sea taking a whizz. I don't really know why I did that because there was nobody around to see me if I'd just done it up the palm tree, but old habits die hard I guess. Anyway, this mermaid swam up to me and she said " Would you mind not doing that? This is my home! How would you like it if I came in your house and peed all over your furniture?" " I was mortified" he continued..... " I couldn't apologise enough and eventually she calmed down and I told her that actually I would be quite glad if she came in my house and peed all over the furniture. Not because I'm kinky or anything, well maybe a little, but because it would just mean that I would be back home and not stuck here all on my own in the middle of nowhere." "Well" she said..."today is your lucky day. You see I'm a magic mermaid and I can grant you three wishes. Your first wish is to be back home, so as soon as you've made your other two wishes you will go back. What else would you like to wish for?" " I'd like to have more money than I will ever need no matter how much I spend" "Your wish will be granted. What is your final wish?" "Well, it's been a while, so.......how about some mermaid pusssay ?" "I'm a mermaid Kenny, I don't have one" "Well, in that case......how about a little head?"

  25. Totally bizarre.....I guess HH must have been taking any kind of appearance fee just to pay for the thing. Little did he know that a small girl would shoot down his new 30k toy in seconds...... "It can make all kinds of different sounds." "can it make an elephant?" "how about a flute?" Well, that's close. It is a long thing that makes a noise when air is blown through it, right? 😂

  30. I suspect NI could move a lot more KOMPLETE 13 users by being much more realistic on upgrade pricing £449 is a great deal if you are upgrading from KOMPLETE 8, Lots of new libraries and plugins included since then...... but for K13 users....very little useful new stuff IMO. NI do the same strategy every release so they must feel it's working for them, but this year, when money is tight, I think it might be ineffective.

  33. I'm writing this as a marketing pro, but I suspect NI could move a lot more KOMPLETE 13 users by cutting one of the newly included libraries and instead providing buyers with a voucher good for a library of the same value of their choice, the rationale being that the included libraries are very genre specific.

  38. It might be the one in CSC. All the bundled CSC content came from DP and Rapture. I can't imagine anyone using CSC if they had DP/Rapture unless the program came from a CSC expansion pack. I purchased one CSC Expansion pack but instead of using it in CSC, I moved the samples to my Rapture folder and reconstructed the programs in Rapture.

  39. English not being my native language, LOTS of them, although I got a whole lot better after living here for a while. Things would get a little crazy when we would cover songs and I had to figure out the words - before the days of internet, and without anyone who natively spoke English to help, if they weren't printed on the sleeve, I was left to figure out what I could and extraoplate the rest. Which was embarassing, but, I had to sing something... I remember reading a John Lennon biography in 1990 and the author was saying that in the early days, when Lennon could not understand the lyrics of a song they were covering, he would just make up his own (sometimes completely absurd). That was then end of my complex. The things I sang (and mumbled) on stage from that point on, man... lol Oddly enough, maybe because Diary of a Madman was the very first album I ever bought and it had the lyrics printed on the sleeve, I developed a knack for understanding Ozzy's lyrics. I was fluent in Ozzy before I was fluent in English.

  40. Known as mondegreens: A mondegreen is a mishearing or misinterpretation of a phrase in a way that gives it a new meaning. Mondegreens are most often created by a person listening to a poem or a song; the listener, being unable to hear a lyric clearly, substitutes words that sound similar and make some kind of sense. The American writer Sylvia Wright coined the term in 1954, recalling a childhood memory of her mother reading the Scottish ballad "The Bonny Earl of Murray" (from Thomas Percy's 1765 book Reliques of Ancient English Poetry), and mishearing the words "layd him on the green" as "Lady Mondegreen"

  42. 👍's John. There's a couple of spots I'd use We've instead of We have and I'd use We made so long ago instead of We've made... Minor editing really. I'm always impressed by how well you use Trilian, but sometimes I think you get a little too "melodic" (and you know my feelings on the high bass notes). (keep in mind I spent too many years playing over bassists who were actually guitar players playing bass 🙃) For me, the bass is the "anchor" of a tune, and its getting in the way of the vocal melody (IMHO). Maybe a synth voice for those times when you feel you want some melodic support of the vocal. If I'm sitting in the producers chair, these are the things I would bring up in pre-production. Deal breakers? No, not at all; just my rambling thoughts as I listened to the tune; take 'em with a grain of salt..... 👏 t
