  3. I paid $10 for my chair in 1993, and it was at least 10 years old at that time. The wheels aren't quite round anymore, but everything else is fine. Mainly, it does one thing very well: I can lean all the way back, put my feet on the desk and take a nap without fear of it tipping over. What more could you ask for in a chair? It also supports my back well. When I had my back problems, this chair was my only pain-free refuge. I suppose it must have been an expensive chair originally. The office was closing and they just wanted to get rid of everything. I also bought the desk I'm still using, also for ten bucks. It's military gray and made of steel. It has a drawer. It may seem odd that someone who has spent so many thousands of dollars on software, synths, amps, monitors and microphones is content to sit on a $10 chair. But if it doesn't make sound, it's not a priority. I'm using a microwave I bought in 1979. I'd probably still be wearing jeans from the 70's if my belly girth had remained constant.

  4. Would be great to have an option to have folders be AUX tracks if needed - with all the benefits of a real aux tracks such as working ProChannel, automation and plugins. I picture a menu option "treat folders as AUX" and then when you put any track into such AUX folder its output automatically gets routed to the folder's input. And once removed from folder it outputs to the default output again.

  7. Bear in mind though, if it turns out to be an active ASIO driver for the Realtek, it's the actual driver itself that's the problem, not the device, so it'll cause issues regardless if things are activated or not. But I do agree, it can't hurt to do that as a troubleshooting step, though, since it takes only a couple of seconds to try it out. The thing that isn't clear yet is what's actually happening. Not playing because the driver is tied up is an entirely different set of potential causes as opposed to Cakewalk's timeline freezing when the echo is enabled. Not being able to access the driver is usually because something else has control of it. Freezing is usually a badly written driver like the Realtek ASIO driver or something like the Magix or Steingberg Low Latency driver. Even just having those on your system is asking for misery. The other thing we need to be sure of is that the proper manufacturer's ASIO drivers for the MOTU are being used rather than WASAPI or WDM or ASIO4ALL or anything crazy like that. There's a much higher chance of something else hijacking the driver if you're not using the proper ASIO one.

  8. Just heard both mixes, second mix is better by half, and I'd post that second mix confidently as a link at the top of your first post in this thread. Why is the second mix better? Less vocal reverb, I think you did add some predelay? And the bgv's are a must have for this song, I'd get them louder in their spots. Your second mix solved a lot of problems that I heard, so well done. I'd say one area might remain to be addressed, and that is your snare is masking the vocal a bit when the snare hits. I don't know if you have already, but I like the snare's sound - just volume automate by hand a little dip in snare volume whenever it happens to beat down on a lyric. That should only take you another 10,000 hours, but well worth it. Of course it's also doable with fancier ducking setups but that's like mowing a lawn with a riding lawnmower - it's faster but doesn't do as nice a job. Lyrics are great. As for your hyper self-awareness of the vocalists' age, hey if your going to mention James Taylor and Dire Straits then we expect a seasoned vocalist. I think it works a treat. And if you listen at lower volume, the vocal tends to sink into the mix a bit - I'd be tempted to add just a .25 db at least to the vocal volume so it is out front where it belongs. OK, so you aren't 38, but this is Special! cheers, -Tom p.s. your wife is right about Bruce, now I finally get it about that dude!

  9. I like t-shirts that are conversation-starters. I wore my last semi-whole CW shirt to a concert just last week and sure enough, somebody came up and told me he was a longtime CW user. But not a frequent forum visitor, so I invited him to stop by and type hi. My "College of Winterhold Alumni" tee also gets smiles and comments.

  14. A company that I used to work for had an office equipment partner that had equipped our office spaces primarily with Steelcase chairs for years. They were solid workhorses that were ergonomically adjustable for desktop computer users. But one day, the Herman Miller Aeron chairs began appearing in select conference rooms. Funnily enough, many of those chairs got "borrowed" and ended up in some team members cubes. At one point eventually, there were enough Aeron chairs nearby that you could grab one if you wanted to. So I jumped aboard! For some reason, I never could get that darn thing set the way I liked it. So back to Steelcase for me! I guess that it's like buying shoes. They just need to fit.

  17. I have it from when it first came out and have sung its praises before, very high quality electro drums in a decent to use interface. But to say its evolved in any way is crap. It came out years ago, has never had any version revision, is only capable of midi pattern export intermittently. I still love it even though on certain days it is quirky and unstable. Instead of fixing, the devs move on to their next "evolutionary" drum machine, and dump this into the Vstbuzz world with the rest of the failing genetic mutations. Fairer marketing would point out how it's at the end of an evolutionary development branch, and when using it, it requires some adaptation. Which is all to say, if you need quality electro drums, at this price, it's low-hanging fruit.

  18. I downloaded this library - 'cause why not - and gave it a test drive. Yikes. Not only is it big, the .nki loads damn near everything by default. 6.11 GB loaded, took several minutes. At first I couldn't figure out why only one mic position (there are 6) was working, then noticed in the Kontakt header that samples were still loading. I had already composed a test melody in less time than it took to fully load. Looks like I'd been overly generous before, assuming there must be many velocity layers. Wrong, most groups have only 1 layer. I'd also been overly generous in assuming there was no pitch stretching. Again, wrong. Most samples are stretched over 5 notes. I'd been overly optimistic in assuming there'd be multiple mallet types. There aren't. But what about those 45 audio sources that can be blended in? To be honest, I still haven't figured those out. Every one I've tried added an atonal layer that was not pleasing. I'll give it another hour to prove itself, then I'm reclaiming 7.61 GB of disk space back.

  19. That all said, I was lucky enough to grab a mug and a couple of shirts when they went up just after the Bandlab purchase and I know it's just a matter of time until I break the damn mug 🙄... it'd be great to see Cakewalk merch up online again, not even necessarily as an income generating source - that seems to be pretty well covered already - but just so as people who use CbB can have something they can own related to their DAW of choice. And to replace broken mugs.

  27. What I find amusing is the number of people on Facebook who try Cakewalk, get hung up on something that is 100% pilot error and say screw this I’m going to buy my DAW! It will obviously be better! I don’t feel sorry for stupid people but those posts actually make me laugh and be proud I’m not stupid!

Plus "Factory Library 2" And here's the link to the VI:Control discussion. https://vi-control.net/community/threads/kontakt-7-leak.128982/

  43. It was a blessing for me to receive this chair for only $100.00. at a company liquidation sale. I had never heard of the brand before until I saw this post and didn't think much about if afterwards until I needed my chair fixed. The great part about it is, they honored the warranty!! All I knew at that time after sitting in that chair was ahh, my butt feels good, and so this must be the chair for me.
