  5. Wow...Celestion Speakermixer is a CPU hog!!!! Here's some pros/cons: Softube SpeakerShaper (by Celestion) PROS: Super intuitive design - if you can relate to cabs and speakers, this is easy to get your head around Sound shaping - lots of great options from hardware COMPONENT emulation including Speaker Diameter and magnet choice (unique to this plugin) Selection quality (sounds great and the speaker graphics look identical to Celestion SpeakerMixer) Self-contained speaker ecosystem - no need to spend additional $$$ on speakers or features. Axis, Arc, and Distance for microphones CONS High CPU usage (but a PRO if you consider how high the CPU usage of the Celestion plugin is) Higher CPU if used within AmpRoom (don't understand this at all but it's a must-have, or at least a another 3rd party IR loader if you're using Amproom). Room mics are less flexible than SpeakerMixer but also account for most CPU usage. Fewer channel-specific options vs. SpeakerMixer Generic speaker enclosures Celestion SpeakerMixer PROS: Lots of channels to mix and match cabs/speakers/microphones Auto Gain - excellent leveling tool to keep levels consistent Parametric EQ is handy. But is it overkill for each channel??? Z-Curve impedance setting Broader variety of speakers and branded speaker enclosures CONS: Fewer hardware component emulations than Softube Microphone placement/alignment is limited Twice the processing power needed vs. SpeakerShaper Tweaker paralysis - lots of options but many require extra navigation to keep track (is that Greenback on a 2x12 with an SM57 or something else?) Pay-to-play: greyed out options highlight what you don't have. full product requires additional investment Room mics are CPU intensive. Twice as many clicks needed to change basic components vs. SpeakerShaper Summary - I'm glad to have had a chance to demo Speakermixer, especially after having plonked down the $90 on Speakershaper. I bought that to upgrade the cab emulations in Amproom but find I use it even more with other amp sims. Speakershaper is - IMHO - a more advanced product than Speakermixer but also simpler at the same time. For noobs like me that are easily led down the feature rabbit hole, I especially appreciate that. As for MCabinet, it has different features for tone shaping that are more "under the hood" but you can get results quickly...with next to NO CPU hit. I use SpeakerShaper as a separate plugin in Amproom which draws less CPU and provides more options but I'm really liking how lean MCabinet is. On the other hand, I find the UI of SpeakerShaper to be much more transparent and relatable. My biggest gripe with SpeakerMixer or SpeakerShaper is that they don't let you import your own IRs into their cab simulation components like Helix, THU, Amplitube, etc. It would be amazing to have all speaker/cabinet/IR shaping in one ecosystem.

  8. To set the path click the gear in the upper right of Aquarius then click the Installation tab If all projects use the same sample rate, there is no need to have all the samples in the nebula repository. Deleting unused samples may shrink the install footprint considerably.

  9. Hello , I'm proud to be posting a new high energy funk song on my 68th birthday ! I used my G&L thru TH3 , MT Power drums , HaNon B70 organ synth , and finally restrung my Ibanez bass. Amazing what new bright strings will do. Any and all mix suggestions are welcomed . "Thanks" .. mark

  16. I wonder if we did a poll, how many users of the deal forum are still using Cakewalk. I, like a lot of long time Cakewalk users, bought Studio One before Bandlab bought Cakewalk. But I never used it and today I find myself fairly satisfied with Cakewalk and the price is ideal.

  18. Update: Fellow forumite @garybrun reached out to me and asked me for the stems to this song so that he could take a crack at producing a mix and master. I was both flattered and very interested in what another pair of ears and set of skills could do with this song and I'm not disappointed, to say the least. I think he's done a great job and it's very cool to hear the choices he made compared to those in my mix. Here's a link to a share with his mix. I'd love to hear compare/contrast commentary on his work. My final mix is still accessible below. Thanks! https://1drv.ms/u/s!AguGELRT6OXyhdgsAOrpn-3rNMuD0A?e=oeGBbL Well, I got this one together in time for Christmas. My ear finds lots of problems here, hoping for some good feedback on mix, instruments, playing, arrangements, etc. I appreciate your time! Update 1: Updated the mix with the suggestions below and monkeyed with speed and drums to snap things up a bit. Update 2: Next mix, reigned in some out of control background vocals. Overall, much nicer sound, you guys' feedback has been spot on! There are still some vocal issues I think here and there but it's come pretty darned far, thanks. Update 3: Re-mixed and re-mastered Update 4: Posting garybrun mix

  19. @DeeringAmps @Tim Smith Thanks for the listen , comments and the birthday comments. I'm glad to have made it this long. @PhonoBrainer Thanks for your time and suggestion. My first Real time using the drums. It seems they're either simple or wide a** open. I'll look at it. @KurtS I Really appreciate the comment. The bass was direct in , with some pro channel EQ , minor hall reverb from Breverb and comp. from "Kotelnikov" (free Fantastic mastering compressor) I thought the hall reverb was an unusual choice but made it really come alive . 23. Aux tracks and busses are an option, but not ideal, sometimes I like to send my channels and FX returns to different places, so routing them to the same aux/bus doesn't work for me unfortunately. For example, I like to have a single fader controlling my snare bus, snare verbs and snare parallel compression, this way I can make sure that reverb levels and compression levels stay consistent as I dip and raise the snare level throughout a mix. However, sometimes I'll route my drum FX returns to a drum FX bus, and channels to a standard drum bus. This lets me compress/saturate the drum submix without affecting the reverb. VCA's give you control without altering the routing. I agree with @Base 57, if Cakewalk groups followed automation, everything would be sorted.

  24. Thanks all, even for the inevitable bagpipe jokes! As a Sassenach I have to lay my cards on the table and say I still love them! Tried various things and ended up I mixed the Uillean Pipes from Kontakt with my Juno " Bagpipes" and the result was nice so a good piece of advice.

  25. So much goodness. Punchy kick! Melange of impeccably mixed guitars. Sollllllid bass! Your tunes challenge the listener to keep track of all the elements at once, which I like. On this one I could only suggest pulling the business of the drums back just a bit, to give more listeners a chance to hear onto the wonderful thicket of those funk guitar parts!!! And I thought I heard some additional bass guitar improv, up on the neck? Cool jam, and the fade at the end was a good choice.

  26. I would just contact Arturia support. Most likely a glitch and they will probably straighten it out. I own Pigments and V Collection 8. But honestly, since there is no way to demo these new banks yet, I'm not buying any pig(ments) in a poke!

  37. You can try Sine for free. In fact, it has a few advantages over the Spitfire player, as you can load up multiple instruments and/or articulations in a single instance, and assign MIDI channels to each. Orchestral Tools has a free service that you can subscribe to that provides free libraries, similar to the Spitfire LABS series, called SINEfactory. There are currently 8 free libraries for that. https://www.orchestraltools.com/store/get-sine In addition, they offer a free orchestral library called "Layers". With woodwinds, brass, strings, and full orchestra presets. It is a sample of the possibilities, but very basic. https://www.orchestraltools.com/store/collections/45

  39. Well if you just want to purge the installation files from the staging area, and not actually uninstall the plugin. The Aquarius app apparently doesn't drop the installers in the normal downloads area on your machine, at least on Windows, it does not.

  43. As a guitarist, I've never been able to get on with any guitar VSTs, no matter how good they are; they just sound 'wrong' to me. Playing a guitar via a piano keyboard is so unintuitive, I can't seem to get my brain to do the learning required to get the articulations and patterns that I can achieve almost sub-consciously with my hands on the strings. Probably just me though and no reflection on some of the premium VSTs, which are exceptional and can create some very realistic tones in the right hands. Andy
