  1. Finale upgrade - rarely use notation software and will be my last version Wave platinum upgrade - Ok it was $40. It gives you another opportunity to see which of your DAWs are the slowest at plugin scanning. Fanatical Producer Loop bundle - Forgot the point of my 3 days of clearing out loops was to reduce disk space. A dog returns to its vomit. I'm always a sucker for these type of deals. Cheap and plentiful next failure is when ADSR will continue their lottsa loops for less.

  2. Reminds me of when I changed my car last time.....I usually buy and sell privately, but that was proving easier said that done on this occasion, so when I saw exactly the car I had been looking for at a local main dealer I moved quickly so as not to miss out. The dealer gave me a trade-in figure, but wasn't bothered if he had my car or not, so the deal was struck at one value with trade in and one for straight purchase. As there were a few days before I could collect the new one I put out an honest ad saying what I had been offered as trade in, but that the first person who could beat that by the end of the week could have it. One guy called me and offered 50% less than what the trade in figure was. I asked him what made him think I would take far less than I was already going to get. He said that he didn't think it worth that much, so I asked him why he called then ? He had no answer for that, so I hung up. Over the next day or so, he called me many times, but I didn't answer because I recognised the number, so he left me 5 or 6 messages with each one upping his offer, but all were still less than the trade-in value. Sometimes it concerns me that these types of people walk among us....

  3. Still too much...that should be the "regular price" and $99 should be the sale price... Then we'd be talking....but that's just MO

  6. That and loops. I never fell for any of the phrase-based stuff but I tried playing with loops and it just don't do it for me. As someone with actual compositional abilities, I'd rather spend less of my time coming up with the right part on my own than endlessly auditioning loops to find a "good enough" one that will "work."

  9. What an awesome story, PC! I don't think we'll hold the pineapple against you. Nothing in scripture (that I can remember) that says NO to tropical fruits. Paradise, to me, is dining in at Giordano's on Rush, around the corner from the Water Tower when The Mile is lit up for the holidays. That's in my diary for December 22nd when I pick up my daughter for Christmas. When Larry does chime in, I'll be disappointed if Buddy's Pizza isn't at the top of his list of Detroit-style pizza joints. We have Pizza Papalis in downtown that is in the same style as Giordano's but is a distant second.

  12. I ended up buying one thing unexpectedly during all this and that was the Ujam Mellow 2 upright bass the other day. I had no intention of buying an upright bass as I already bought Orange Tree's Bass Pear a few weeks ago or whenever that was, and I bought Bass Pear because it can be tuned to drop D which will give me a proper Eb w/o having to detune Kontakt and play an Eb on the E key 🙄 and so on. I read in some review somewhere real quick that the Ujam upright bass can also be tuned to drop d and that's a missing feature in a lot of upright bass libraries (such as Straight Ahead Bass). And the Ujam Mellow 2 was $39 for a 24 hour flash sale and there was no clock I could see so I had no idea at what point I was in that sale when I found it, plus it was $39 and Mellow was well regarded when I was researching the best upright bass libraries a few months ago, so I bought it. Other places have/had it for $64 (50% off sale) and it's normally $129 I think, so I got a good deal there on something I need but didn't plan on. So between Mellow and Bass Pear I have two upright libraries now that will let me properly detune the instrument so I'm set now for uprights, which I run through amp sims and big muffs. Bass Pear was super cheap too back then. So while I technically got sucked in w/ Mellow I made out very well in the end.

  13. Clearly you should get another Apple computer. But if you must stay with Windows, ASIO4ALL is never a good idea. Get the MOTU-approved ASIO driver from their website. It should work better, and it may solve all your problems.

  22. 8Dio string libraries. The scripting is really disappointing, and I should have known that from owning Intimate Strings. Troel's is great at hyping his products and making demos, but very little effort goes into making them truly usable. With the exception of libraries that don't require much in the way of scripting, like pianos or percussion, I'm done with 8Dio libraries, specifically their string libraries, as someone in this group recently PMed me to say after I mentioned 8Dio. On the other side, I bought a viola library from Fluffy Audio (Trio Broz) that sounds really nice and is very well scripted and very playable. Oh well, lesson learned. Twenty years ago we didn't expect scripting, but today, there's a vast difference between a well scripted string or guitar library and one that is little more than a giant collection of individual articulations. I'm not looking to program performances, I enjoy playing. 8Dio string libraries are terrible in this respect. If they offered refunds, I would want a refund on every string library of theirs I own and replace them with libraries I've learned are really well scripted and enjoyable to play.

  23. I think I paid $40 for the upgrade...with Izotope I try to stay as current as possible... I would MUCH rather have advanced...but that's never coming down to "my price range" LOL Upgrade on sale is $399 and PPS is $499...too rich for my blood!

  24. I always go through these big libraries and delete everything I don't want, and put what's left into an organized-by-genre sample library database. Took about 1.5 hours, but in the end, I only have the stuff I like, trashed the rest, and got it down to 3GB from 22GB And now I know the only thing going on the drive is stuff I can use...which I know will save me time down the road. Don't even want to know how many days I've spent scrolling through sample libraries over the last 20 years (I don't know how anyone could buy that Samples From Mars everything pack - that seems like a total nightmare) - finally decided to always filter through new purchases right away, and get rid of the crap.

  26. I wish it was easier to use and get it to provide results you are looking for, but it is pretty amazing software and is the cream of the crop to get realistic grooves that are not pre-made. As far as I can tell they also have a good liscensing method (even if the delivery system isn't exactly standard) I own everything they have, and should have gotten Jamcussion earlier in my journey.

  37. Marc, I completely agree!!! Although, it's considered uncool to like Giordano's, I'm right with you -- and I'm Italian-American and have an enormous love for pizza. If you are out on the Southside, the best pizza in the world is at Palermo's on 95th Street in Oak Lawn. I grew up with my aunt and uncle owning a pizza chain on the Southside, but their pizza couldn't hold a candle to Palermos. Also up there, Paisan's and in the south and western burbs, Aurellio's.

  38. Ditto. If you want deep dish...it's Giordano's. My daughter is in Pilsen which is not close to any of their locations. I told her if she wants me to visit, she's got to be close to one. Guess she's telling me something...?

  43. Back on the fence. The upgrade to V Collection 8 includes new ‘free‑running’ oscillator technology only for Jup-8 (v4) and the new Juno, so I’ll wait until v9 updates the other synths. More info here: https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/arturia-v-collection-8.

  44. I waited all year for the Orb Producer 3 update and then the sale, so I knew that was coming. On the other hand, other things I didn't see coming: Keepforest Evolution: Dragon for $30, SSL Flexverb for $29.99, and the upgrade to FF Timeless 3 at $34. I bit at all three. I'm still on the fence with Softube Speaker Shaper, not that I will not have it at some point, but it's another $80 I didn't bank on. See what I did there? Bank? Anyhoo, it makes just about everything I've run it through sound better. Many options but super simple to use. I'm actually pacing the floor over this. But then I'm out. No Cyber Monday for me. I still haven't used most of what I gathered in the IK Group Buy.

  45. Since this thread is really all about tangents, here's a friendly, harmless and non-controversial one. For those looking for a diversion away from Black Friday and Cyber Monday, I strongly recommend the Beatles Get Back documentary. Okay, it will probably not appeal to non-Beatles fans, but I'm a big Beatles fan and I loved it. It was great to see that in contrast to the Let It Be documentary, that these four guys had a lot of affection for one another, especially John and Paul with each other. I love John, Paul and George's music and it was clear that George was really unhappy because he clearly didn't get his due in the band. Of course, when he released a double album of songs John and Paul rejected, "All Things Must Pass," I think the world got to see that he too was a great songwriter. Anyhow, if you love The Beatles, rock or songwriting and you're on a budget, take $7.99 USD from plugin and sample budget and spend it on a month of Disney+ to watch that. You'll be glad you did.
