  3. sharing a cool article on 2 mic guitar technique. AT 5 is a great tool to tinker around with experimenting with mics and placement in a cab. I started using more ribbon mics with sm57 and tweaking placement to get the sound i want and not use as much eq for guitar. https://www.soundonsound.com/techniques/two-mic-guitar-tracking re: AT 5.. I just did a cool new track with it today. it sounded pretty good to me using AT 5. yeah, it does use more CPU than my other sims.. like Guitar Rig..e.tc.. but it also does sound very good. FWIW.. I use a bunch of other sims and will switch back and forth. if its a project that uses lots of tracks and stuff.. i will just use a different sim or convert the AT 5 track to wave and be done with it. nothing to dwell on. its a great product.

  4. Sheesh, they've sent me at least six emails about this. They are sure determined to give me Elements! Ironic that their thank-you for already buying Ozone 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 is a free copy of Ozone Elements. Can I exchange that for something useful, maybe a free upgrade to RX9?

  5. Yeah, we all should be set for a loooong time!! Good luck trying to stay focused on your music. You talked about filtering your emails but nothing about not coming around here. It's like the old saying goes... Hang around shady places and you will get involved in shady deals!!

  7. I've been a longtime Cakewalk user from the Original Cakewalk to Music Creator to Sonar to the current Cakewalk by Bandlab product. With the new release I've been continually finding glitching and stuttering in my recordings that were driving me nuts. It always seemed like a processor problem or something with a system interrupt. I'm running Windows 10 with plenty of memory and a decent processor speed. I've tried many things to avoid the problem without success, such as turning off wifi, disabling anti-virus software, and using Ctl Alt Delete - details tab to assign Realtime priority to Cakewalk. I've also tried bouncing down all effects to free up the processor, but I still had problems with freezing, glitches, etc. while recording. I finally found something that worked, so I wanted to pass it on. Previously I had enabled read and write caching and maxed out the buffer the buffer size thinking this would help my system performance. But when I disabled all caching, presto, no issues. My guess is that shifting to the cache while recording was in process was causing these glitches. Hopefully my issues won't come back. I wanted to pass this on in case anyone else is battling this problem. [ Preferences, Audio, Sync and Caching, File System bar ]

  8. Aquarius, Pisces and now Scorpio...... I tried split channel mastering on this one.... i say little bit more EQ control if you are panning in your mix with mastering in your mind... This has quite heavy saturation and distortion in sections. The side chain on the kick really works on this one and some FX i created. Hope you like it

  12. @iRelevant thanks for the ears & observations regarding the composition. Your input is appreciated. Tracks emerg out of the ether, in an almost organic way, then out of the end of the furry paws. I have very little control over the process.

  14. There are several you can download. They are a particular mic and will not match your mic. You can use the EMC800 with or without a calibration file. I have used it both ways. The good thing is that the EMC8000 is very close in the important frequencies - 80 to 15k is pretty close on these. There are several links to different EMC8000 calibration files. I guess you could look at a few and average them or try a couple and see what you think. www.hometheatershack.com/threads/do-i-need-a-behringer-ecm8000-cal-file.175106/ https://www.avnirvana.com/threads/ecm8000-calibration-file.3949/ abacab's graph is great to show the variations in the EMC8000. Also that flat area in the middle of the graph is the most important frequencies

  15. "Thanks" to everyone for the Wonderful replies. I sent a copy of this to Marlon at White Noise Studio. He was one of the guests on the podcast. He got back with me with some detailed suggestions. I've remixed but haven't posted it. One big change is the cello is now in the center and the guitars play back and forth on either side of it. Sounds Way better. He want's to use my project for a mixing video on his you tube channel , then send me the final mix. Someday this song will be Finished .. mark

  27. Thanks for doing these tests. It is very interesting to see how it behaves on a top notch machine. BTW, congrats for a very capable machine for your DAW. It must be fun to work with. If you have a few minutes, I would really be interested to see how AT5 5.0.3 fares on such a beast. If you install AT5 5.0.3 on your machine and take the same readings, I would be very curious to see if the CPU usage drops in half on your beast. You simply run the 5.0.3 installer over your current installation. You can get it from your download area on IK's site, not the Product Manager, and under AT5 click 'Past Releases'. After you are done simply go in Product Manager and update AT5. You will be back to the latest without loosing anything. I have done it a dozen time and it worked fine. On my PC, 5.0.3 uses half the CPU than the latest.

  28. I did one more test, with Kuassa Amplification 360. 6 instances my own preset of Vermillion Amp (love that amp too!!) with a chorus ensemble, and jet flange plus plate reverb: 4% CPU!! If you haven't tried that Vermillion amp and like clean sounds, give it a shot.

  30. Outside of waiting on a future group buy where yet to be released products would be included, I'd think now is the time to jump in. Especially if you don't have the amps/cabs/effects that are only available with MAX or individual purchase. The Two Dr Z amps in that catergory get more use from me than just about anything else. Since you need the matching cabs, those 2 amps take up 4 slots and so forth (HiWatt, ENGL Blackmore amp, and the Wampler and T-Rex pedals being some more). Amps are usually in the $25-35 range and the Cabs are like $10 a piece. These "premium brand" effects are also $25 each .

  35. True and I have found another and quite weird dependency in Reaper. The CPU usage per track is higher in case you have the same preset duplicated to more tracks. Screenshot is from 5.20. I have got the same behavior in 5.0.3 and 5.1.1 version. EDIT: It is definitely some bug in the Reaper because I can achieve the same results with other VST combinations. Some general and one track measurements across mentioned versions: AT 5.0.3 1st start to GUI - 17s 2nd start to GUI - 3s AT5 Perfomance Leslie - 3.7 to 4.1% AT5 Perfomance Leslie X-Gear - xxx AT 5.1.1 1st start to GUI - 22s 2nd start to GUI - 3s AT5 Perfomance Leslie - 3.8 to 4.0% AT5 Perfomance Leslie X-Gear - 4.8 to 5.2% AT 5.2 1st start to GUI - 18s 2nd start to GUI - 3s AT5 Perfomance Leslie - 3.8 to 4.1% AT5 Perfomance Leslie X-Gear - 4.5 to 4.8% My PC: Win10, Intel i7-4790K passmark 8056,16 GB RAM, SSD WD Blue AT5 Perfomance - Leslie .at5p AT5 Perfomance - Leslie XGear.at5p

  41. So it would seem that you are seeing the same doubling of CPU usage with AT 5. Obviously not as big a concern for those with higher spec machines (including myself), but could be a showstopper for those with older gen PC equipment. Thanks!

  45. It seems like Soundpaint is one more addition to the computer music landscape, so bully for Troels and 8dio. The engine is free. Obviously a tremendous amount of care went into its design. The instruments are reasonably priced. Reports from beta testers about quality are excellent. We will find out if people enjoy making music and sound design with these new tools and that's the only thing that matters. That said, I don't really understand why he put a picture of the SG in the video. Why not just call it a 70s Soulful Guitar and leave it at that? Because when people see an SG they want it to sound like an SG, and that means the way it sounds played through amps. And then you can have a switch where you can take off the effects. Personally, I am withholding all judgment until Wrenchenspiel for SoundPaint comes out.

  48. $5k for a new computer is a small price to pay for a center-justified taskbar. Ever notice Microsoft's surprisingly consistent pattern of alternating good and bad versions? Windows 2 was useless, Windows 3 changed the world. Win 95 made half your applications stop working, Win 98 addressed those problems. Windows ME, 'nuff said. XP was great, Vista sucked. Win 7 was troublesome but ultimately recognized as forward progress, but Win 8 was widely ridiculed for trying to make desktop displays look and act like tablets. Then Win 10 redeemed the brand again. Let's hope Win 12 swoops in to save the day.
