You may extrapolate from these numbers various conclusions regarding "quality", "quantity", "community" or "cacophony" at your leisure.

  21. Got the refund, Kevin. Replied to their support email with the following notes: first, your statement regarding the conditions of this sale is erroneous, as the wording of the Sales Special page was changed by NI after my purchase; second, your statement regarding refunds as a “one-time courtesy” is erroneous, as full refunds during a period of 14 days are part of NI’s general conditions of sale; third, please note my displeasure with the way NI are handling this situation by covering up their own mistake and not providing a suitable solution towards long standing customers. 27. I wish the companies and people who put out these videos would mix it up with the sounds more. They all seem to use the same type sounds from the same genre of music (pop, electronic, dance, etc). Why not mix it up a little and put Modo Bass on the bassline, then put a metal type bass in there. Try an orchestral violin on the melody, some strings on the pads, an electric guitar on the chords.

  30. This was my concern, that the company's lifetime may not be very long. More specifically, when I researched the company, I found some interesting things out -- that many years ago they received initial funding from Abbey Road Studios, but that was several years ago, and the funding was very small and it appeared that every employee with the company had left and reports indicated that only the founder remains with the company. When I inquired about that I never heard back. Consequently, I didn't bite on this offer when it appeared around a year ago. But they did survive a year since my research, so that's nice. I wish them well, I just would hesitate to purchase a lifetime offer from them considering those concerns.

  31. It's been a while since I have posted on this forum, but I think I am about to and 1 to your count. I already use Kontact 6, mainly for orchestral and vocal kind of stuff. Sample Tank 4 SE might give some interesting extra options. Any advice out there on whether it is worth it ( being fully aware of the bias that might be present by positing on this very long tread that has a vested interest in more people signing up to the offer !!)

  32. Thanks for you thoughtful response. This is certainly more helpful than "sounds pretty lame to me". I guess how you respond to a plugin like InstaComposer depends on your tastes, goals and expectations. If you feel that only humans can produce listenable music and you want your plugins to produce music that sounds like it was produced by humans, then these plugins will be a disappointment. I actually found the InstaComposer videos interesting and could see how it might spark ideas. I do not look at these plugins with the idea that they will produce songs for me. I believe that part of the creative process in using these plugins is being able to see the possibilities presented and then expand on them, kind of like taking a piece of diftwood and carving it into a image based on the hints of an image contained in the driftwood.

  33. A song is usually made up of repeated parts ( EG Intro, Verse1, Chorus, Verse2, chorus, Bridge, chorus Chorus ). So the 10 bars you talk of would be enough for a VERSE which, as a part, will be repeated 2 or 3 times. Then you need a Chorus ( repeated ) and a Bridge, maybe an intro Surely with Insta Composer ( from my viewing of the run through vid above ) you can start with your 10 bars, save that "pattern" then noodle around with the features to make a different part based on the initial 10 bars and so on. Any of these programs are not meant to build a song / hit for you from start to finish. They are for ideas to spur you on and at minimum help you to find nice chord sequences that sound well together

  37. Yes, Facebook/Instragram is divisive and is responsible for many terrible things in our society. Long ago I actually was a Facebook consultant and I owned a lot of stock. I stopped consulting and sold all my stock and took a big tax hit because I didn't want to be profiting from something that immoral. But it's not all bad. I do like keeping in touch with my high school friends. You don't have to use it to fight about politics. You can just see pictures of people's grandchildren and I like that. And there's no way in a million years I would be writing this book if I didn't find out that people actually liked this stuff I was doing. Really? It's not that good! I had a friend who was a tremendous actress . She had a real following in the indie world. But she didn't want to be an actress. She wanted to be a writer/director. She was rich and didn't have to work so she just let her acting career drop. She only did jobs when people called her. And her directing career went nowhere for a long times. But people really loved her as an actress. She could care less because it was effortless for her to do it. This is easy, so I don't value it. But maybe we all need to listen to what the world tells us now and then. Like if you're trying to be an orchestral composer, and you're not getting calls from the NY Philharmonic, but you write great songs that all your friends like... you know? Maybe you should think about going in that direction and seeing if you can take it to a level beyond your friends. I'm still trying to figure it out. But I'm going to see this book through.

  39. Geez, why don't companies understand that they just have to own their balls-ups and not make it seem like they're doing you a favour by fixing their mistakes?

  40. For now create a project template with the meters setup as needed. Use this template for all future projects. It is possible to designate the template as the default for new projects. When saving the project template make sure not to overwrite any of the templated suppled with Cakewalk. Or create a custom path for project templates and change the path in preferences. This is what I do. Either providing a unique name or custom path will prevent future updates from overwriting the custom template.

  41. Thank you all for your interest. Here's what's going on. A lot of you know that I've been planning a series of publicity videos for a long time. My feeling was, "Why am I doing music videos when there are people like Rick Beato around?" And I thought that I've been a movie publicist for 45 years. I know a lot about that. So I started working on scripts and the technical aspects. This has been a long time coming. But nothing new. I could do the video course and do the podcast and the Tiger the Frog sale too. I had it all workeds out. But now I'm also writing a freaking book. Here's how that happened. I decided I wanted to begin beating the drum for the course on Facebook. I have almost 900 Facebook "friends." You meet a lot of people when you're a publicist. But on Facebook the only people who get my posts are my high school friends and Simeon--because they are the only ones who care about me anymore. So I thought that if I wrote something interesting it might wake things up. I started telling little stories about my career as a film publicist. I'd get up early and spend an hour or two writing each one. And people really liked them. And soon everybody was on my case telling me to write a book. So I said "no way" and I kept saying "No." Because it's not something I want to do. At all. The FB posts were fun because there was no pressure to do them well. But people kept on me about it. All these people in the film business who abandoned me... And then I thought about it. I've tried to do so many things in my life, from writing ten screenplays, to directing movies, to music to making YouTube videos, Nothing really came of any of it. Nobody ever said "we want to make a movie out of your screenplay! or You're such a great director!" And the YouTube channel, despite endless work, hasn't caught on at all. If I kept making music videos it would probably take me another year to become a YouTube partner. This is all stuff I was trying to do my best at, and now for the very first time, people are saying they really like something I did , Stuff I tossed off without a thought. Stuff I don't personally value too much. I think some of the stuff I've written here or on VI:Control are better. And I decided to listen to what they were telling me. Maybe this is something I'm just naturally good at. Maybe I should stop resisting and just do it. The book is called "Why Tony Curtis Hit Me"

  42. If I want a delay, I buy a "Delay". If I want a reverb I buy a "Reverb". Perhaps the product would be more popular if it wasn't named "Sibilance". Which, not to brag or anything but I already get for free. Came with the microphone.

  44. I did a bit more digging and have discovered some things. What I have discovered on Windows is that Product Manager will installs sounds based on paths specified in the Windows Registry, which can be set from within SampleTank 3 for SampleTank 3 libraries and from within SampleTank 4 for SampleTank 4 libraries. The registry keys are as follows: ST3: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\IK Multimedia\SampleTank 3\LibraryPath ST4: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\IK Multimedia\SampleTank 4\LibraryPath The issue is that if you do not have ST3, you cannot change the setting of the LibraryPath without going into the registry. The other issue is lots of libraries such as Brandenburg Piano are ST3 libraries. Even though you are using them into ST4 they still use the ST3 path. I still need to look at Mac to see where ST gets its LibraryPath for ST3. Changing the first path in ST4 does cause ST4 libraries to be installed in the new location. Hope this helps someone.
