  1. Was just about to say as long as @InstrEd doesn't get a free MIDI controller I'm open to suggestions.

  2. I understand and it's a fair point, but it's their choice to market their products as they see fit. IK's model may seem complex to grasp at first, but easily doable. Learning music, the workings of a DAW and plugins is such an higher order of magnitude to learn that it dwarfs this many times over! My point is: it's a shame to see you give up on such a great sale because of something I know you can wrap your head around. And it is not required to overthink it! You will still get a great deal without going through the loops some have suggested. In fact, most of the complexity resides in people finding loopholes to save a few bucks. Nice if you care, but you can't really blame IK for that! If something interest you in the IK catalog and it is part of the sale, catch it while you can and you will be rewarded with so many freebies, you won't regret it, I promise! šŸ˜€

  3. Welp, that's how you flatten a curve (and then twist it backwards like a paper clip): From noon yesterday (hour 84) to noon today (hour 60), a cool 720 signups went in, good for 30/hour. Hitting 19k by midnight tonight would've been a nice pace; as it is, there are 10 hours left to pile the numbers on. The rate needed now is ~16/hour and falling fast. Even if the influx wiggles a bit, going from 18k to 19k took 46 hours and didn't pick up the pace until around 18 hours in. There are 58 hours left for 20k, and a ~5% head start on the last thousand. Numbers are fun!

  7. I had many of these same problems earlier on. Since that time IK has updated their download distribution portal. This 'should' make things MUCH better now. It's still a lot of files but things have been going smoother. Hats off to IK for improving this issue. Not sure how large A5 is. I mostly had those issues with ST4. Smaller downloads like additional plugins should be painless. Much depends on your network. If you have the average cable modem connection should be fine.

  8. One little trick I learned for Vegas is, before rendering, collapse (minimize) all the tracks and close all windows (preview, plugin, FX etc..). Then render. It cuts rendering time in half.... sometimes even more. Hope this helps

  9. It's not just you. (At least, I hope it's not just you, or you'd have earned several thousand freebies to sort through today.) Since 9am this morning, the count has averaged about 27/hour. In total, 499 signups were added on the 27th. That's excellent news -- the beginning of the 27th marked four days left in September, with a little over 18.1k signups at the start of the day. So if 500/day is repeated (or 499/day, if you're truly bean-counting) on the 28th, 29th and 30th, the count would coast over 20,000. Here's how things look from the "amp cab half-empty" point of view, where higher values are actually bad: When the "race to 20k" was announced on the 21st, there were 225 hours left in September. From then, a signup rate of ~14.4/hour (blue line) would have reached 20k by the end of the month, but the actual rate was lower than that through this morning. So the "rate needed" crept steadily up, passing 20/hour early this morning. The number of signups "short" of that initial 14.4 ideal rate also grew (orange line), topping 500 additional "needed" signups to get back on course. With around 87 hours left (i.e., 9am this morning), the rate jumped, and by noon was higher than the needed average-- so those lines took a steep turn down. When/if the orange line reaches zero, it means the count has "recovered", and ~14.4 signups/hour the rest of the way would suffice. If the orange line goes negative, the rate needed is even lower. If the blue line hits zero, the count is 20k -- and if it goes negative, then it's bonus time and the count is working toward whatever milestone is revealed for the 21st freebie. TL;DR: As of this morning, the "bump" has arrived. Time to strap in and see how fast -- and how long -- the carousel spins.

  12. If you have them installed, and have the space to do this, I'd recommend backing up the whole sound library folder(s) to an external drive and optimally also somewhere offsite. You can copy the whole shebang, and even zip it if you'd like to save space in order to back it all up. If you have an uncompressed copy of the whole thing (this is how I do it) on an external drive, you can connect that to any machine running the software and point SampleTank, etc to that external drive rescan and go. This is also how I use the libraries on separate computers except for my main home studio PC on which I keep a local copy on a sample drive so I don' t have to connect anything to work. This way there's never a reinstall of these files, you just need to point to them if on an external drive or unzip and point to them if you've zipped them to save space. I'd zip up the copy that is offsite/cloud based and not what's on an external hard drive as my preference but you can do as you need to.

  15. The IK Product Manager is a big improvement over the old system of Authorization Manager plus manually downloading individual sound zip files, then individually expanding them all. I just installed all the freebies in 5 minutes and then walked away from the computer - everything was downloaded and installed when I came back to the computer hours later.

  16. I still don't know exactly what I want to look at here. The organ looks interesting but another maker who will go unnamed just offered an organ that might work for me better. I still think for anyone who is just getting started this one is tough to beat. No matter how much some might dislike the business model, at least IK hasn't resorted to the monthly payment to keep things going or the subscription renewal..........yet. I have to hand it to them for that. Coming from a customer vantage point I like simply buying the product and updating it so far for free from IK. I'm not gonna lie, the mix plugs look like reworked modules that were used in ST4 and others. No harm in putting them all in one place, giving them a name and marketing them as modules. Sort of an alternative to the TRacks shell. That package looks interesting because it's all there in one place and easily managed. Do I need it? No. Will I buy it? Maybe. Depending on your major product purchased looks like most things are about 399.00 US on the upper end to qualify for anything either at that same price or for less. So essentially what we are buying is a product package we select for 399.00 or thereabouts. I know of nowhere else a person can spend that amount and walk away with this much either plugins or instruments hopefully unattached in any way in the future. The reciprocal part of it comes in when they come out with new products and you buy additional things off of their online portals. It also makes them front and center for many who bought into these deals as compared to some other maker selling their plugins one at a time with less unity in the systems. Hopefully people who buy in here are loyalists for a long time to come. I have been using IK products for longer than I care to share here. They have always been at or above all but the very best and most expensive plugin makers. They manage to come close enough to them that many times it doesn't make a huge difference. Plugins will never make you a better mixer. Only YOU make you a better mixer. I noticed AT5 has stage capabilities for anyone who wants to take a computer on stage. For the traveling regular guitarist I don't see that working, but then those guys are like unicorns right now. If you see one consider yourself lucky. The rest of us who might end up in Ed's bar down the street on the weekend might consider it over a hardware alternative. As a keys player it's the same thing with me for ST4. I might do it but probably won't because I have hardware alternatives. For the 3 million who will play their guitar in front of a computer screen might as well go for it. OK I'm long winded....I'll stop for now.

  17. If you want some quick, instant gratification, try Tracktion Waveform. A cool Pattern Generator is integrated with the chord track that can generate tracks for arpeggio, chords, bassline, and melody, with styles and presets for each. It also offers suggestions for progressions to next chord based on popular progressions.

  20. As a songwriter, there's nothing worse than being stuck in the middle of a massive dry spell. In the past, I could write about one song per month, but this is only the second song I've been able to write in over a year. Admittedly, not my best work, but not my worst either. Just something to get myself going again....even though I fall back on the same familiar topic of past loves, regrets and time. I'll try and do better next time. For now, this is "Just Another Try". 27. I get that. I don't have money to throw around either. $100 is an amount I have to think about. Heck, $50 is an amount I have a think about. But in this case, not for very long when it will instantly solve 99% of my audio troubles and I can get on with making music. Its a no-brainer for me. I am too, but I won't let that be an excuse for substandard equipment. It doesn't have to be top of the line, but it does have to be quality. If it works for you, great. Even if I was working 100% in the box with only VSTis and loops, I'd still get a proper audio interface because 1) it's just simpler 2) sounds better because the converters are better and the onboard chips tend to be poorly insulated from electrical noise and 3) I want to mix on decent studio monitors; computer multimedia speakers won't cut it. They are not accurate. For mixing you really want speakers that are accurate, not that sound good. Decent speakers don't come in a pair with one 1/8" stereo plug. The OP mentioned his Roland FA, which is a very good multi-tembral workstation. I can only assume that he's wanting to use the sounds out of that. I know I would. So he's not working in the box. He's recording external audio. Which brings us back to a real audio interface with real drivers for best results. The reason why I emphasize that is because just the other day somebody was having problems with his Focusrite interface. He had no idea there was an ASIO driver for it. He didn't know because he hadn't followed the instructions. The instructions that were in the box. If he had followed the instructions, step three is download and install the software.

  45. I don't think Scaler 2 forces you to learn theory. On the contrary, it is more like an AI that allows you to apply music theory that you do not yet understand, i.e., it keeps you in the lanes of what sounds good. Scaler 2 keeps evolving, and keeps getting better! Good music is based on timeless, universal rules of melody, harmony, and rhythm. Music theory is just a collection of those rules. Random generative stuff may be fun, and produce somewhat interesting tracks, but you are unlikely to score a hit using that method.
