  1. But seriously thank you for the kind words. I'm actually off right now too but waiting for my wife (outpatient surgery, I can't even go into the building so I'm out in the car) but this thread is too much fun to avoid.

  2. I'll take that as a compliment though it seems similar to when a parent has one child and calls them their favorite. I'm all you've got for now, folks. If I wasn't your favorite, I'd be [more] confused and maybe a little miffed Leave @cclarry alone! Dammit Jacques he's a deal-monger not a timekeeper. And top-shelf wines are for people with more money than sense. There's a great many very cost-effective wines that are incredibly good. I've got some of those in the well-stocked bar, and haven't had any Cakewalk forum guests show up yet???

  3. It was only on page 52. I added some numbers as an example. Just delete and substitute your own.

  4. The sane and reasonable part of me understands you two are kidding. Asked to comment, the other 95% of me said: The score's 90 to 89 right now, home team winning. Keep swinging, sluggers.

  6. It turns out I have one more nerdy spreadsheet left in me. (Who am I kidding? I've always got a nerdy spreadsheet left in me. The laxatives never help.) For still-interested parties / my own amusement, I want to track how far into 25-for-1 territory we may expect to get. The starting point for that is this: As of midnight, the count is 10537. Thirty bonus days times 24 hours means 720 hours to accumulate more signups. The signup rate from the very beginning (9am EST on 8/5, I think) to the "race to 10k" announcement (around noon on 8/26) was 14.6/hour, or about one signup every four minutes. (The rate from start to finish is higher -- 26.4/hour -- due to the mad rush from around midnight on the 29th through early afternoon on the 31th, a period averaging 33.4 signups/hour, better than one every two minutes. Assuming we're not due -- at least in the next four weeks -- for another mad scramble, the "pre-race" rate seems more realistic.) It may also be useful to track the September-only signup rate, which could be -- or not? -- a little or a lot slower. That rate doesn't exist yet, but as a starting point, I used the average rate over the past 9 hours, when signups have slowed considerably. That's 12.44/hour, or around one every five minutes. The last two columns show the estimated final count, based on either the "pre-race" 8/5 rate or the post-10k 9/1 rate of signups. Right now, we're in 19ish-for-1 territory, but with almost no relevant data to lean on. If anyone's interested, I'll post updates periodically to show how the trend is meandering over the course of the month.

  8. Oh, no no no. One of my dearest sayings is "Prediction is futile". (It goes hand in hand with another favorite, "Hope is for babies". I'm super fun at parties.) We're in the third phase of the group buy, and the "rampdown data" from the wild rock-all-night throw-your-panties phase was only 8 hours old, or about 1% of the time to come. Here's what those numbers and 14 hours more look like (note the gap in "Hrs left"; all rate calcs are per-hour averages): In a couple of days, we'll have a better idea of the current rate, which should be a decent ballpark to play in -- future disasters, curveballs, additions, subtractions and night-rockin' bouts of panty-throwin' notwithstanding.

  12. Yeah, the post counts are pretty different - 1,791 to 1,323 at the moment. Most people seem to be focused on the page count, though. Maybe there's a message in there about Cakewalkers willing to work 33% harder? Or something?

  14. Thanks Peter. Best wishes and hopefully everything turns out okay. Glad hospitals don’t have offers like IK where you need to crossgrade an organ first to get another one free. Note: please think that was funny…I’ll feel really bad if it was too soon or something more serious I don’t know where the joking off button is..

  15. I'm sure it will, took forever for them to take her back and it really is very minor and low-risk but I know that doesn't mean anything these days! Thank you and @InstrEd for the thoughts.

  16. I looked back at the 2019 IK GB post, where they ended month one at 7 and month 2 at 10 freebies. I didn't consider the level differences or other archeo-mathematoligcal considerations, but the grounds in the bottom of my coffee cup look like a "15" to me, so that is my prediction.

  18. Why not? The hottest thing going is 40 year old analog synthesizers or clones/ spinoffs/ reissues thereof. And 40 year old songs are climbing the charts again. Must be something to it....

  20. Here's a quote from Freespace2 over on vi-control. "I have been using Cakewalk for a long time and never stopped using it due to lack of functionality. It is true that some features of other DAWs do not exist, but on the contrary, some features provided only by Cakewalk made me give up switching to other DAWs. For example, as an orchestrator, the following features are most important to me: It always shows dozens of different instrumental MIDI tracks at once on the right side of the Piano Roll, allowing you to switch tracks with one click, reverse the selected and non-selected tracks, and only select specific instrument parts. The ability to highlight, and if necessary, immediately call up the virtual instrument setup window associated with the desired MIDI track. All of this can be done right from the inside of Piano Roll window without going back to Track View or resizing the Piano Roll window. Any other DAW doesn't offer this features and requires a lot more mouse clicks and time to work similarly. The only digital performer was able to manage and display a list of active MIDI tracks on the right side of the piano roll, similar to Cakewalk. If you are an orchestrator and need to implement an orchestra through MIDI and virtual instruments, I can confidently say that Cakewalk is the best choice. After Gibson abandoned Sonar, I tried to switch to other DAWs such as Cubase, Logic, Flutiloops, and Studio One, but I ended up returning to Sonar because other DAWs' MIDI programming work was too inefficient. So, I have no choice but to express my infinite gratitude to BandLab for continuing to update Cakewalk for free. And I deeply agree with the opinion that Cakewalk is underrated. If you are curious about the music that can be made with Cakewalk and East West Hollywood Orchestra, install the recently released 'Marvel Future Revolution' game and listen to the themes of Captain America, Iron Man, and Storm, or listen the OSTs of these characters to the official YouTube channel. these are the songs I made with it."

  33. The qualifying list is not quite the same as the free list. There are some products that can be use to join the GB but not be chosen as a freebie, for example ARC System 3 with Mic, the Electromagnetik and the Cinekinetik bundles. None of the Max products are in the GB. The link Charlie gave you has all the information regarding the GB. You cannot sell any of the free items you receive in the group buy, but I believe you can sell the item you used to get you into the GB after 90 days. The Custom Shop is software you can install using the IK Product manager and allows you to buy certain items for Amplitude, T-Racks and SampleTank, or even the software itself. Not everything you can buy in the custom shop qualifies you for the GB, so you have to refer back to the above link. You can buy gear credits to use in the Custom Shop. It you buy 150 or more gear credits, you can get a discount. For example 200 gear credits costs you $160. You can even use Jam Points to reduce the cost of the gear credits further. If you have enough Jam points (48), those 200 gear credits would cost you $112. You can then use those gear credit to buy something like Amplitude 5 which would get you in at the $200 level.

  34. I'm posting this because when I came to Cakewalk from using other DAW's, it took me some time to figure this out, and it's not as obvious as it might be.* If you want to lasso select multiple elements on the screen, such as clips in Track View and notes in Piano Roll, rather than switching to the Select Tool, hold your right mouse button and drag. This feels odd at first because we're so used to clicking and holding with the left button to drag select in other programs, but things sometimes work a bit differently in Cakewalk, which predates many programs that we grew up with. Also, I thought that the Select Tool was the only way to....select things. So I had been using the Select Tool (which has its limitations, and it's at least a couple of keystrokes to change tools back and forth) or relying on the Smart Tool (which too often gave unexpected results). Once I figured this one out, it made things go a lot quicker! *(If you think this is the most basic thing to be ignorant of, I didn't have the benefit of the Reference Guide!)
